Determine if Oracle Client(9i) is installed

Is there a programatic way of determing if the Oracle client is installed? A registry key to look for? And/Or a file or directory to search for? I need to determine in my Wise for Windows Installer whether or not the user has installed the Oracle client.
Thanks.
Tom

No, I wrote that previous question also! That question was different - that was WHERE the Oracle client has been installed. I want to know IF the client has been installed at all. (Remember, someone may have installed it and then uninstalled it - I think some of the registry entries would still be there, correct? So I don't think I can just check one registry key... maybe a specific file or something?

Can you please advice whether an application server that make use of JAVA beans and JAVA related services require Oracle client to be installed? For an example if the solution build based on Java and JBOSS to be used as application server, do we still require oracle client to be installed and configure the tnsnames in order to communicate to database server?

  • Problem with Oracle Client(64 bit) install on Windows 7

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle Client 64 bit (win64_11gR2_client) on my laptop and its giving me all the pre requisite failed for "Physical Memory, Free Space, Architecture and Enviornment variable: Path". So i need to exit that setup.
I have enough space almost 130 GB free on my laptop. Also, i cleared temp data. Then increased physical memory to 4096 MB but still facing the same error and not able to install the Oracle Client on my laptop.
Please assist as soon as possible.

Pl identify exact version of Win 7 - you will need Professional version or higher - Home versions are not supported. Pl verify you meet all of the pre-reqs for the install as identified in the Install Guide - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e16774/pre_install.htm

  • SQL Loader part of Oracle Client? Seperate install, licensing

I use Oracle SQL Loader on one of my network machines.
The second does not have the SQLLDR.exe in the /bin directory.
First, can I install this component seperately and secondly
what are the licensing implications ?
    Thanks

Assuming you are referring to client installation, the other machine where the SQLLDR.EXE is missing seems to be a "runtime" client installation. Oracle client is a free download so there should be no implications for installing an administrator type install on this machine.
If this is not the case, then you should be talking to the sales person about knowing the implications.

Is there any kind of 'silent install' option for the Oracle client 10 runtime? A way to pre-configure it and then just have it autoexecute on a users workstation and auto-install?

  • Installing Oracle Client 11g without installing GAC policies

    Hi Guys,
Is there a switch or install change I can use to install the oracle 11g client without redirecting or installing GAC policies in the assembly folder.
    Regards Alex

The reason I ask is we want to have both oracle 10 and 11 client installed. And run code build for oracle 10 with the oracle 10 client, and code built for oracle 11 against oracle 11 client if that makes sense.

  • Running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client installed

I have seen many postings on this issue but none of the suggested solutions have helped me.
I am running visual studio 2010 professional with SP1 on windows 7 64 bit machine. When I try to run a web service locally and call it with SoapUI, I get the following error message during OracleConnection.Open().
Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.
I have tried setting up the build configuration and the project settings to target 32 bit but that has not helped. I have also tried removing the reference to System.Data.OracleClient that shows being under Program Files (x86) and add a new reference to the dll under GAC_64. That too did not work.
I only have the 64 bit client installed on my machine.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you

    1. Visual Studio any version is 32 bit ONLY irrespective of hardware or OS bits.  So to DEVELOP with Oracle Client you MUST install 32 bit Oracle ODAC components. Task manager will show devenv.exe *32 (to confirm 32 bit Visual Studio application).
    2. You can run your web application inside IIS/IIS Express in your PC which independently can be either 32bit or 64bit.  If it is 64 bit, you MUST also install 64 bit Oracle ODAC components which means you'll have to install both 32bit and 64bit in your 64 bit Win7 running on 64bit hardware.
    3. In Visual Studio if you compile with "AnyCPU" as target, the resultant binaries (Web/NonWeb) can be both 32bit or 64bit.  So if target PC is "AnyCPU" or "x64", you MUST install Oracle ODAC 64 bit in the target OS if that target OS is 64bit.  You don't have to install 32bit ODAC in the target PC.
    4. One more catch to above scenario is the target OS could be 64bit simulated OS on a 32bit hardware. In such case you MUST install both 32bit and 64bit ODAC components.
So while you ask your network team to download ODP.NET/ODAC Components make sure you ask them to download both 32bit and 64bit. Total nearly 600MB.
Hope this helps many people out there.

  • Oracle Client version : which one to install?

I apologize if this is not the correct forum, but wasn't sure whether to put it in th general forum or the installation forum.
    I have the following environments
    Production
    Windows 2003 R2 Oracle 9.2.0.8
    Windows 2003 R2 Oracle 11.1.0.7
    RHEL 5 Oracle 11.2.0.2.0.
Similar evironments exist in QA and dev.
We have app developers that require just the oracle client to be installed.
Should I be installing the 9.x client on every laptop or take the most recent as I presume there is backward compatibility.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

You should be using the 11gR2 client

  • How to identify the media type 32 or 64 bit from installed oracle client

tilll the previous release there was many hints like.. lib and lib32 in various locations. but not in 11g r2 i guess.

    hi karthick,
thanks for replying. first of all i would like to say that I was not able to find the path which you have mentioned below.
    but i understood your intentions.
so directly looked for a executable file of sqlplus underr oraclehome/bin. and i got few error messages, saying sqlplus could not be loaded. this could be because my 10g is currently configured. and not 11g as we dont want to disturb the environment without confirmation. You said this was AIX. So when you log on to the server, your "environment" only exists for that session you have created to log on. Set ORACLE_HOME to point to your 11.2 installation, and set PATH to point to $ORACLE_HOME/bin. Those settings are only good for that session, so will not impact anything else.
If sqlplus reports 64 bit, well, that's obviously 64 bit. If it's 32-bit, it won't say anything about it, so "not 64 bit" must be 32-bit.
    >
however, i tried to execute the same file for 10 g to check if 10g gives any info, but only got the version not 32 or 64 bit.

  • Oracle Client install sequence before EPM install..

    Hi All,
I'm trying to install EPM 11.1.2.1 on a Windows 2008 R2 Standard Server(64 bit). IIS 7. This a development/proof of concept set up.
I want to install Foundation, EPM Architect, Essbase, Planning, Reporting and Analysis, HFM, Strategic Finance and FDM on the same machine.
I want to install an Oracle 11g database 64 bit database to use as repository.
According to the Installation documents, EPM Architect and HFM support 64 bit Oracle client, but Strategic Finance and FDM require 32 bit Oracle client.
I installated them in the following order.
    Oracle 11g 32 bit client
    Oracle 11g 64 bit database
    Oracle 11g 64 bit client
I faced issues in configuring EPM Architect where it didn't recognize ODAC installation.
    1. What should be the order in which I should install the Oracle 11g 64 bit database, Oracle 11g 32 bit client and Oracle 11g 64 bit client ?
    2. To install ODAC (ODP for ASP.NET ), I had to use the custom option for the clients, but the custom option shows listener and MTS services.
Should I install them for each client ?
    Thanks.

If you are installing this one machine then I would take the route of Oracle DB, 32bit client, 64bit client
    Cheers

  • Oracle Client Version requirements

We've built a program using VS2005 and ODT 10.2.0.2. The database it is accessing is 9i. In order for the program to establish connectivity with the server, we had to load Oracle Client 10.2.0.2, with the installing user having administrative priviledges. No problem. Things work fine.
However, users access the computer with the program installed via terminal services over their network. If a user who does not have administrative priviledges via Active Directory, a error is generated stating “The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client”.
If the user is given administrative priviledges, this error does not occur. As I ponder this, I wonder if terminal services uses the priviledges assigned to the user to determine the Oracle Client to use on the host computer.
Could this be the case, or am I missing something?

does the computer with the program installed has multiple ORACLE_HOME (i.e home for 9i client and home for ODP.NET)? I suspect, only administrators can access ODP.NET home.

  • Oracle Client 64-bit and Oracle Client 32-bit on the same server

    Hi,
I have a Windows 2008 server 64-bit with Oracle Client 64-bit and Oracle Client 32-bit installed on different directories (D:\Oracle and D:\Oracle32)
Is it possible to define for certain applications to use the TNSNAMES entry from the 64-bit Oracle Client
and for other applications to use the TNSNAMES entry from the 32-bit Oracle Client
Once I installed the Oracle Client 32-bit (Oracle Client 64-bit version was already installed) and restarted the server I performed a TNSPING and it defaulted to the Oracle Client 32-bit installation path
    Thanks,
    Barry

    Hello,
When you install a new client on a server, it will update the PATH variable, and add the ORACLE_HOME\bin path to it, at the first place. That explains why the tnsping use the last installed ORACLE_HOME.
What you can do if you want only to change the default path to the tnsnames is to set the environment variable TNS_ADMIN to the path where the tnsnames you want to use is located. You can modify this variable in your application if you want to use another tnsnames.
If you want switch from 32 bits to 64 bits client, then you have to modify the PATH variable.
    Hope this will help.
    Best regards,
    Sylvie

  • Oracle Client 8.06 in an multy OS W/S

I have on my W/S two OS installed - Windows 98se and Windows XP Professional. Oracle Client 8.06 installed in Windows 98 successfully, but when I run Oracle Net8 Easy Config, it gave me error massage: "Program performed illegal operation".
Is it because multi OS system? Is there any way to go around it?
Is there way to install Client 8.06 in Windows XP Pro?

I guess results are unpredictable when using such an old client, that was not written to handle pipelined functions. Presumably in its communication with the server it is sending the wrong information because it doesn't know what datatype it is dealing with.
You will also hit problems dealing with object and collection types in general, timestamps, intervals and WITH clauses. I've had no problems using the 10g client against a 9.2 database. Not only do you get a better version of SQL*Plus, but it solved some similar problems within PL/SQL Developer.

Have you tried just running the deinstall.bat without the home information as that should remove it, if you have both 32/64bit clients installed then it might also might be worth reading "Deinstall 11.2 32-bit Home Inadvertanly Removes 64-bit Homes and Vice Versa (Doc ID 1271661.1)"
