Detrimental flash CC actionscript editor changes

my company (one of the biggest advertising agencies in the world) just upgraded to CC from CS6. so i admit it is new to me, if anybody can point out the new way to do these things that i see as problems i would appreciate it.
in actionscript window (either on timeline or in .as file):
1. what happened to blue checkmark upper right corner to validate code? is running the debugger the only way to do it now? that certainly is much less efficient.
2. as2 no longer supported. i am constantly receiving legacy files to update or base new swfs on. i see on another thread that i can download the cs6 version (because the cc install blows away the old version, argh), once they get the whole enterprise ID thing straightened out. meanwhile, sorry clients, can't work on that today. i hate as2 and never use it on my own, but now i have to have 2 versions of flash and switch between them?
3. can i no longer "pin" an actionscript frame? once again, something incredibly useful.
in general:
1. bmps no longer work. if i try to import a bmp, flash will say error importing file. or it won't even show up in the import dialog as an importable format. if i copy over a movieclip from another file that has a bmp in it, my fla will refuse to save.
2. movie explorer is gone. incredibly useful for looking through the structure of an .fla and finding movieclips or bits of code, use that constantly. now it is gone.
3. bandwidth profiler is gone? holy moley in banner world we need this every time we publish. it is one of the most important tools where filesize is crucial. why why why get rid of it?
i'm sure i will have more examples as the week goes on.

Hmm, my classes live in a subfolder of where my fla files live. (This sub folder again is divided into further folders to organise the code)
I haven't actually setup any class paths. (default class path is set to .)
If I set the default class path to the folder where my code lives I get a ton of errors telling my that my package names don't reflect the location of my files.
edit: That was a mistake on my side. I've set the class path to where my code lives and made sure the package names still match up.
Unfortunately it still ignores my base class (which lives in a sub folder of the defined class path)

  • Has Actionscript 3 changed since Flash CS3?

    maybe it is a strange question?
    I find that sometimes opening a Flash CS3 or Flash CS4 file in Flash CS5 causes the scripts to either fail or I get some strange results.
    I do not have specific examples to mention as it does happen on occasions.
    At the moment, I am doing a project for a University.
    They only run Flash CS3 Flash Player 9, which already leads to issues.
    I use Flash CS5 currently.
    The first time I sent in a draft example, they could not open the file and also they could not play the SWF file, as they only run Flash Player 9. They will not update the Flash Player to 10 as it will affect other ongoing projects in the University.
    I only purchase Master Suites, so I had to reinstall Flash CS4  from the CS4 Master Suite and also Flash CS3 from the Web Premium Suite.
    The Flash CS5 file had to be saved out as Flash CS4. I then had to open the Flash CS4 file and save it for Flash CS3.
    I found on occasions that opening the file in Flash CS3 cause some placement issues of Text and soemtimes, but not always some Actionscript 3 code would cause some errors.
    Has Flash CS5.5 rectified this and added the option to save to Flash CS3 perhaps, this would solve alot of issues.
    Has Actionscript 3 changed since Flash CS3?

    Actionscript 3 has changed since CS3, though what existed in CS3 has not changed.  Newer versions have newer features, so new code was created to support those features.

  • Is there a way to change the line-endings used by the Flash Professional AS editor?

    The Flash ActionScript editor seems to save files on the Mac with an arcane CR (carriage-return) line-ending, instead of using LF or CRLF.
    This messes up with my version-control system (git) which doesn't support files with such line-endings.
    Is there any way to make the ActionScript save with another line-ending? I wouldn't mind editing some config files manually if that's what it takes.

    hide the axis and make your own using one single row table for the x-axis and a single column table for the y-axis

  • How to Setup Flash Builder ActionScript only project for iPad?

    Hello!
    Can someone give a short guide on how to setup an ActionScript only prject in flash builder such that it can be compiled using adt and deployed to the iPad?
    i created successfully iphone games using FlashIDE and PFI.
    now I'd like to create an iPad app using Flash Builder (ActionScript only). but I fail to load the compiled IPA to the ipad, keep getting different errormessages thus i think something with my projectsetup is wrong

    Yes, in Terminal you type a single line which is made from the path to the adt application, some parameters, and paths to other documents. Here's the full list of things:
    /Location/to/AdobeAIRSDK_2.6/bin/adt
    -package
    -target ipa-test
    -provisioning-profile /Location/to/Provision.mobileprovision
    -storetype pkcs12
    -keystore /Location/to/Certificates.p12
    -storepass password
    NameOfApp.ipa ApplicationDescriptor-app.xml
    -C /Location/to/swf  NameOfApp.swf
    splashscreens
    icons
    That "-C" line is clever, it does a directory change to the folder you give it, so after the -C /location/to/swf part it will then look in that same folder for other documents, and for where to build the IPA file.

  • Flash 8 Actionscript Tutorial problem

    I have followed the following instructions to the letter
    (several times) but the button script won't activate a URL and I
    get an error message from Flash 8 which I'll show after this:
    1.Select the invisible button on the Stage.
    Open the Property inspector (Window > Properties), and
    find the Instance Name text box in the Property inspector.
    Type inv_btn into the Instance Name text box.
    Select Insert > Timeline > Layer to insert a new layer,
    and then rename the new layer to actions.
    Open the Actions panel (Window > Actions), and then select
    Frame 1 of the actions layer.
    Type the following ActionScript into the script pane (the
    editable text field) in the Actions panel:
    inv_btn.onRelease = function(){
    getURL("
    http://gnome.deseloper.com",
    "_blank");
    This does not work. Here is the error message:
    **Error** Scene=Scene 1, layer=button, frame=1:Line 1:
    Statement must appear within on handler
    inv_btn.onRelease = function(){
    As this script was copied directly from the tutorial text,
    and I have never scripted anything before, I am at a loss to
    explain this or how to make it work. Can anyone help me?

    I'll approach this from the opposite end... replace the code
    you have with:
    on(release){
    getURL("
    http://gnome.deseloper.com",
    "_blank");
    If that works, then the problem is that you didn't put the
    code where the instructions you show indicated you should. For what
    you did, the code I just showed is appropriate (though not a good
    practice because it is hidden from easy review). It's better to
    keep your code in the timeline where it can be easily found.
    You will have selected the button and then typed the code in
    the actionscript editor. Instead, you need to
    click on the frame in the (separate) actions layer in the
    main timeline that you should have made already, not the button
    layer, and then place that code from the tutorial in the
    actionscript editor window.

  • Flash Pro is ignoring changes to my base class when publishing / debugging

    Hi,
    I hope this will be in the correct section of the forum.
    I've been working with Actionscript 3 since a while now although most of the time I've just done straightforward coding using Flash Develop.
    This is the first time I'm building a more or less complex project in Flash Pro.
    Here's a quick outline of how the project is structured.
    There is a swf file which holds a large set of components. Things like Buttons, Sliders, complex List components, etc.
    All of them are written from scratch not using any existing components (reason being project requirements).
    As someone with a heavy programming background I've done as little as possible in the timeline / frames, most of my code lives in classes which are attached to the components I've created in Flash Pro.
    These classes handle all the functionality. These classes then usually inherit from a base class where some basic functionality lies that I need across all components.
    The components outlined above are all marked for export and lateron imported into other swf files where they are used.
    So far so good, all that works like a charm.
    Now here's the actual problem.
    Today I needed to make changes to the base class to change some fundamental behaviour across all components that inherit from said base class.
    The change in itself was fairly simple.
    However, every time I now try to debug or publish it will completely ignore any change I've made and use the previous version of my base class?
    I can go as far as completely emptying my base class and every time I debug or publish it will do so using the base class from before. I can see at runtime that it is the previous version because of the behaviour of the inherited components.
    That's what I don't get. Where does it take that version from? I tried clearing the publish cash, to no avail.
    I can pace tracers, nothing. If I add code to the base class and make an error it will complain so when I try to debug or publish but once fixed, it won't use any of it. It's still behaving as if it's using a previous version.
    What makes all this even weirder is that if I take that new code and place it into another class and inherit my components from this one, then the build will use that new verison with the new code. If I switch back to the old base class with exactly the same code inside it will ignore it again and once more behave as if its an older version of it.
    I've been looking around the net but simply can't find what this could be caused by.
    Now, sure, I could simply use a new class and inherit all my components from a different base class but that's rather unpractical.
    What I would like to know is, why does Flash Pro ignore any changes to this class? Is this an issue with how I inherit my component classes from a base class? I kind of doubt it because it has been working like a charm before.
    Could this be a Flash Pro issue?
    This is also not the first time I've come across this problem. The previous time however, after much tinkering, it went away. Today, it didn't. I would really like to get to the bottom of this.
    FYI: I'm running Flash Pro CC. I design my components in Flash Pro and do all my coding in Flash Develop.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Using Dreamweaver MX to edit pages with Flash 9 Actionscript 3

    I designed a site using CS3 and used Actionscript 3 and Flash
    9 for a banner on the site.
    The site pages will now be edited and updated by the owners
    who have Dreamweaver MX 2004.
    Is there going to be any problems or errors that can be
    expected regarding the Flash banner/Actionscript? The owner will
    not be editing the banner just updating some page content.
    Thanks for your help

    No problem.
    If they aren't updating that part of the page then nothing
    will be
    altered in terms of the code so it will continue to work.
    A page is only html and can be edited in any html editor or
    text editor.
    I don't know how the owners are going to update the pages but
    of course
    by giving them access to all of the code they can ruin
    everything if
    they don't know what their doing........theres nothing you
    can do about
    that unless you create some sort of Content Management
    System, which
    only allows them to alter specific parts of the code.

  • JSFL or SWF Panels and the ActionScript Editor

    Howdy, I'm hoping to be able to write JSFL commands or make swf panels for the Flash IDE that will work with the ActionScript Editor. Mind you, not the ActionScipt panel that is open with a .fla, but with the Flash text Editor that edits .as files directly. I've been able to get it going with the actions panel, but don't know if it's possible with the .as editor. Any ideas on how to accomplish this?
    Essentially I'm hoping to create a panel that generates getters/setters automagically, like FlashBuilder does, but with some additional features, like ASDoc commenting etc. Also, I want to have it generate empty functions for any event listener callbacks as I code the listeners.
    Thanks in advance!
    -Ted

    Never heard of that, and not sure if the hot fix addresses that, but make sure you have it - your Flash version should be 10.0.2 in Help > About
    You can get the update from: http://www.adobe.com/support/flash/downloads.html

  • Stop and Play All Child MovieClips in Flash with Actionscript 3.0

    I am stuck with the ActionScript here. I have a very complex animated flash movie for eLearning. These contain around 10 to 15 frames. In each frame I am having multiple movie clip symbols. The animation has been created using a blend of scripting and also normal flash animation.
    Now I want to create pause and play functionality for the entire movie. I was able to create the pause function but when i try to play the movie it behaves very strange.
    I was able to develop the pause functionality by refering to the below mentioned links:
    http://www.unfocus.com/2009/12/07/stop-all-child-movieclips-in-flash-with-actionscript-3-0 /
    http://www.curiousfind.com/blog/174
    Any help in this regard is highly appreciated as i am approaching a deadline.
    I am pasting the code below:
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.display.DisplayObjectContainer;
    import flash.utils.Timer;
    import flash.events.TimerEvent;
    import fl.transitions.*;
    import fl.transitions.Tween;
    import fl.transitions.easing.*;
    import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    stop();
    // function to stop all movieclips

                if (content.getChildAt(i) is DisplayObjectContainer)
                    child = content.getChildAt(i) as DisplayObjectContainer;
                    if (child.numChildren)
                        stopAll(child);
                    else if (child is MovieClip)
                        (child as MovieClip).stop();

            var movieClip:MovieClip = content as MovieClip;
            if (movieClip.currentFrame < movieClip.totalFrames) // if the main timeline has reached the end, don't play it
       movieClip.gotoAndPlay(currentFrame);

    This movie is an animated movie from the start to end. I mean to say that though it stops at certain keyframes in the timeline it stops for only a certain time and then moves on to the next animation sequence.
    Its not an application where the user can interact.
    On clicking the play button i want the movie to play normally as it was playing before. If the user has not clicked on the pause button it would anyhow play from start to finish.
    Is there anyway where i could send in the fla file?

You can't change size dynamically as it is defined by the
object embed tags.
You could use WMODE transparency which could help you fake it
tho not always best
solution to go with WMODE. It's a very buggy parameter.
WMODE will remove the background color so the flash movie
appear over the html and you
can see the HTML content trough the movie.
You could define some solid shape for the background on
bottom layer to make it look
like SWF background, than change it with the other loaded
movie making it appear as it
changed size while the over all flash size stats the same. As
said above - faking it.

  • My airport express seems to be broken -- light is yellow and does not flash and doesn't change even when I press the "reset".  Tried unplugging and reset -- still a solid yellow.

    AX light is yellow and does not flash and doesn't change even when I press the "reset".  Tried unplugging and reset -- still a solid yellow. I assume this is a goner?

    Unfortunately, based on your description, I would have to second that your Express is a "goner." However, before giving up on the unit, be sure that you attempt a "factory default" reset at least 3x just to be sure.

  • Write to and read from TCP/IP address using Flash and Actionscript

    Hi,
    I'm a bit of a newbie with flash and Actionscript. I have been programming for a number of years now, but I have only been messing around with flash since CS4. I have CS5 now, and need a bit of help. I have a wireless device that I have made, I wish to make a flash program (potentially adapted to iPhone or Android) that sends and receives data (in the form of Word or Byte sized variables) from an IP address assigned to the device. Is this achievable?
    Please help. Thank you
