Developing a portable application

Is an API included with the J2ME library that will provide details on the device the application is running on?
I developed an application with the main GUI using the Canvas class. I developed it using the Nokia emulator, and all functions and the display work as expected.
When I load the same application on a Samsung, I start to run into problems. First, the font is too small, resulting in a lot of white space on the screen. Next, on the Nokia, I was forced to define a command for the OK button. If I did not, my first menu item, was assigned to the Middle Soft Key, instead of the Left Soft Key. On the Samsung, the command does not show up.

First, the font is too small, resulting in a lot of white space on the screen. Unless and otherwise u create ur own bitmap font , u cant make ur system font to be displayed same in all the devices since every device has its own system font.
I was forced to define a command for the OK button. If I did not, my first menu item, was assigned to the Middle Soft Key, instead of the Left Soft Key. On the Samsung, the command does not show up.I came across the same problem .As the softkey code in nokia and samsung differs u get this problem . I will give a snip of code . May it can help u
switch(keycode){
         case LEFT_SOFT_KEY:   // -6 for nokia
         case LEFT_SOFT_KEY:  // -21 for motorola
now ur  code should start here for the left soft key
break; This is how i made my application run over all the diff devices

  • Microsoft TTF Fonts package needed for commercial use in portable application

Hello there i am designing an application in java which is based on being a portable application of pdf converter. My design needs to have the ttf Fonts independently present in the application. Is there any way or agreement to buy the Microsoft ttf fonts
package for commercial use. This package should be independent of the being used only on the Microsoft Windows.

  • EJB3 portable application.

    Hi there!
I have to develop a EJB3 application for differents servers (WL, JBoss, Webphere, might GlassFish). Ive only tested WL and JBoss, and ive met with some problems. WL has some problems with local JNDI ( doesnt work :) and JBoss doesns support servlet inyection yet. I think that the JNDI naming convention is different in every server ( i read its out of EJB3 specification). Probably ill meet more differences.
Do you have any suggestion (link, doc,..) to make a EJB3 application most portable as possible?
    Thanks in advance for any help;

  • Error while building sample application "Developing an Order Application"

    hi ,
I tried to create a simple Mobile application using the instructions for "Tutorial: Developing an Order Application for Handhelds" given at :-
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmobile71/helpdata/en/46/7294498d870ad3e10000000a11466f/frameset.htm
For the same , by using TCdoe SDOE_WB i created a new SWCV named ORDER_TAKER,
    with a Data Object - > ORDER
added Data Object header node -> ORDERHEADER
The ORDERHEADER contains the following fields:
    ORDERID          CHAR8
    CUSTID             CHAR4
    LONGTEXT       CHAR32
    SERVICEUNIT   CHAR32
    CREATED_ON  DATS
    CREATED_AT  TIMS
As per the tutorial I created  Mobile Service Component as "order_sv". under which created Data Objects , and a service name orderService . Now when I copied the code of Defining the Custom Methods , I am getting following error while building the MSC........

  • Need help to develop centralized web application

    Hello,
Please correct me if i am posting thread in wrong area.
I am going to develop web application for a university, a complete online portal for Teachers, Students and Administrators. There are more than 50 affiliated campuses of university in different cities. I need to develop centralized web application which all campuses' teachers/students/administrators will access from internet. Please guide me what hardware, module, development technique etc should i use.
I am using J2SE and Oracle10g to develop that application.
    Thank You

Go to CustomInk.com.  Their T-shirt Design App is not Flash based which is refreshing. Instead, they're using a sophisticated combination of CSS, JavaScript and PHP/MySql.
Digging a little deeper into the source code, it looks like the company that developed their T-shirt Design App is located in India and called No-Fresh.com
No-Fresh licenses their T-shirt Design App.  You might want to contact them directly.

    Hi CV,
Oracle Application Development Framework Mobile (ADF Mobile) browser is a standards-based framework that enables the rapid development of enterprise mobile applications. Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g release 1 of ADF Mobile browser extends Oracle ADF to browsers running on mobile devices. Because ADF Mobile browser is built upon the component model of Java Server Faces (JSF), you can quickly develop applications for mobile browsers. ADF Mobile browser's mobile-specific extensions to JSF enable you to develop mobile applications using the same methodologies for developing JSF applications for the desktop.

We have developed a desktop application using Flash software and published the same for MAC environment. When we double click on the index.app file, the application is working perfectly in Mac 10.6.7 at our office. But if the same index.app file is double clicked in Mac 10.6.7 at out clients location, its not opening. For your information the client is able to open this same application by double clicking on index.swf file. The main problem is that client is not able to open the application using index.app file at their office whereas we are able to do so at our office. Can anyone give some suggestions to sort this problem?

The most common reason is different versions of Flash, or different versions of web browsers used.  Some users may elect to not have Flash installed at all because of the processor overhead of Flash.  If you are going to make an application for a client, check what operating system and browser versions they are using first.  Then determine if a stand alone application is required, or if they have the necessary plugins to run specific browser enhanced code.
P.S. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control.  Mac is the shorthand for Macintosh, the operating system and computers made by Apple Inc.

  • How can I turn off the WLS 6.1 security in order to develop my own application-based security module?

    Dear Colleagues,
I am currently developing a J2EE application using WLS 6.1.
My team and I have to implement a security requirement to suit our company's needs.
The security requirements are that, users' password need to be aged (30 days maximum) and we need to provided a GUI front-end (JSP) to allow users to change their password when these expire after 30 days.
Our internal contacts in the company, have already taken the lead to find out about whether we will be able to use the WLS 6.1 platform to do this and the answer we got back, was.
Now we need to develop our own security module.
    I have 2 questions:
    1. How can we turn off the WLS security in order develop our own application-based security module?
    2. How can we develop a security module that allows us to age users' password and provide them with facilities to change their passwords when these expire?
At the moment, we are using the default BEA WebLogic login.jsp page and there some configuration in the web.xml for this. I will be grateful if you could advise me on how to turn this default security off so that we can write our own security module.

    hi,
1.You can write your own realm in 61 which can plugged for your security
    calls.
    2. once you write your ownrealm.. you can access it through weblogic
    api/ur api..
    thanks

  • Can i develope a java application using C API

    hai,
i have C api, the project was developed in C before, now i am having that api. I have to do that in java by using that C api.
can any one suggest me how to do this?

Your question is not that very clear!! You want to convert the C api to a Java api? or you want to develop a Java application that uses the C api?
For the first question I believe that you should check the functionality of the C api and re-code it in Java! do not believe you should find anything imposible in that! (unless that api is trying to do something crzy directly with memory)
For the second question then I believe you will have to use native calling or something like that. I have never used it, but read about it, and it seems one way how Java can interect with C.
Over here there is a forum.

Inspite of deleting the cache as mentioned in the above steps, Firefox still maintains a copy of the page in it's cache. Also, a serious bug is, even though we delete all temp files used by Firefox, and open the previously cached page, it displays it correctly, but upon refreshing/reloading it again shows the previous version of the page maintained in the cache.

We have had this issue many, many times before including on the latest 3.6 rev. It appears that when the applicationCache has an update triggered by a new manifest file, the browser may still use only its local network cache to check for updates to the files in the manifest, instead of forcing an HTTP request and revalidating both the browser cache and the applicationCache versions of the cached file (seems there is more than one). I have to assume this is a browser bug, as one should not have to frig with server Cache-Control headers and such to get this to work as expected (and even then it still doesn't sometimes).
The only thing that seems to fix the problem is setting network.http.use-cache to false (default is true) in about:config . This helps my case because we only ever run offline (applicationCache driven) apps in the affected browser (our managed mobile apps platform), but it will otherwise slow down your browser experience considerably.

    Hi,
I suggest to study the service /sap/bc/gui/sap/its/test/it/it00
there is a simple example for a table control. Also useful is
    the wiki article about debugging.
    best regards

  • Step-by-Step guide for developing a ADF application, does it exist?

Step-by-Step guide for developing a ADF application, does it exist?
    Hi there,
At our company we recently begun working on a project using Oracle ADF with
UIX. We got the Oracle JDeveloper 10g handbook and we did a 5 day Oracle ADF
course. A good way to start the project I think.
One thing that bothers me though, is that I cannot find a simple clean example
how to manipulate a record in the DB, going through all steps of MVC. I tried
this forum, the books we got and google. It usualy explains a small portion
of the steps needed, but never a complete example.
I know people will probably say you can design what you want in various ways
and that's its all up to the developer, this is also the power of ADF that it
    can be very flexible.
However it would be nice to have a step-by-step example how to be able to insert,
edit and delete a record. Showing all the steps that have to be made in the BC4J,
struts and UIX, including creating triggers, seq, autocommitting etc.
I think ADF is pretty complicated, therefore having a step-by-step example guide
(design pattern) would be very handy for a beginner like me.
Do such guides exist, are there developers who created such a guide for themselves?
Would other developers find such a guide useful? I'm curious about everybody's
    opinion.
A good example of what I mean by guide can be found here

Have a look at the ADF Workshop - it doesn't use UIX rather it uses JSP but I think it will give you the basics.

Then have a look at the toy-store demo and the new ADF Case manual:

  • Developing a web application in Dreamweaver,MySql and PHP

    I have two questions:
    1.  Am developing a web application on a windows 7 platform.
I have an insertion form where I have to always eneter the geographical details for some one. I.e District, County, Sub County and village.
So what I want is to have these pre entered in the database before I revock this form such that when I select a certain village on the form, it automatyically displays its District, Subcounty and County in the following textfiled. This saves time than typing them manually all the time.
I need help on how to do this.
    2.  On the same form, I have a textfield for capturing date of Birth. I need help on to insert a calender in this field such that when some one clicks on it, a calender pops up and he selects the date which is then inserted in the text field other than  tytping it manually.
    Thank u.

  • Compatibility between Oracle Developer suit and application server

    Hello
We are going to user oracle 10 to develop and deploy our application.
The tool that we were going to use are
    Developer Suite 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) and
    Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.2.0)
But i need to know whether this are compatible
Where can I find any documentation related to compatibilities between developer suit and application server ?
    May thanks in advance

    Hi Ana,
    Compatible version of IAS is
    10g Release 2 (10.1.2) or 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) with patch 1(10.1.2.1.0)
Also if u are using only forms and reports services there is a forms and reports standalone version is available. And hence u dont need to install infrastructre.
And this is a very compact product.
Even if you use forms 9i /developer suite 9i to develop the forms, when u compile them on IAS, it gets upgraded. There is not much diff between forms 9i and 10g
