Developing an ipad application

Hi,
I have recently been asked to develop a presentaion using flash for the ipad. I have downloaded the trial of Flash CS5 and have played with the iPhone settings. I understand a certificate is needed before I can publish for the iphone - but what about the ipad? Is flash CS5 ready to produce ipad content as it is iphone content? If not, I presume it is still possible? Do I need a different certificate from Apple or when I apply, will 'one size fit all?'

Well... first, any iPhone app will also run on the iPad, no assembly required. If you've downloaded any iPhone-only apps on the iPad before, they show up in the middle of the screen at the same size it would have been on the iPhone. When you run an iPhone app on the iPad, theres a button that appears at the bottom-right to zoom in to 200%, but it will look like crap. If you want an iPad-native app from your existing iPhone app, you'll likely have to rescale everything to fit the 768x1024 screen, but I could be mistaken. Perhaps using stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.EXACT_FIT would scale it all up for you without having to do any manual resizing yourself.

I've developed an iPad application using iOS 4.3 SDk.I tried to install the application in a device which runs on iOS 5 through iTunes. It ended up with error message saying: iTunes Sync 'application name' failed to install. But my application was recognized by iTunes
I am clueless how to fix this issue, Is there any compatibility issues with iOS4.3 and iOS 5 ?

Shouldn't 180 degree orientation be a standard for all iPad applications?

I find it curious that there isn’t a de facto standard for viewing angles on all third-party applications, and that some applications literally appear “upside down,” when trying to use the iPad in its case - with the easel flap tucked in - for landscape viewing.
Jonathan Ives’ eloquent “the device conforms to you,” notwithstanding, it would seem to me that reorientation - 180 degrees - should be a basic requirement for any iPad application.
Of course I can easily flip the iPad around, but then it renders the case design ergonomically ineffective, and hence, I conform.
While not a big deal (yet), I’m starting to now question some of the premium prices, particularly for applications that do not perform an essential iPad task such as this.

No you're not quite getting me. The apps (and games) I mentioned will not move at all, so essentially they appear in a fixed location. If you have the iPad turned the "wrong way," you have to physically turn the iPad 180 degrees, as if the iPad were a static device, to view these apps correctly.
The assumption here (I think, anyway), is that the iPad handles the orientation of third-party applications, orientating them when you move the iPad. In principle that's correct, but obviously the third-party developers have to develop the application to behave this way. And, as I've pointed out, a handful are not doing this. Again, I'm not talking about iphone/ipod ports, but actual iPad releases, with a premium price.
The application, "The Elements" which is more like an interactive book, is a prime example of what I'm talking about. I bought it on the day of the iPad release, and with my iPad tucked into the case, set up as an easel comfortably on my lap, the program displayed upside down. If you look at their recent release notes for the latest update, it even says "orientation now fixed." So obviously they were aware of this limitation.
So apparently, there's either not a requirement for an application/game to have to take advantage of the iPad's reorientation abilities, or it's somehow getting past without notice.
Sorry to be so cryptic in my post. I guess it would have been simpler to ask why there are some iPad developed applications that don't move at all when you flip the iPad 180 degrees.

It can't be done. iPads use iOS as the operating system. Macs use OS X as the operating system. iOS apps don't run on Macs and OS X apps don't run on iPads.
That's why if there is an app that has been developed for both platforms, you have to buy them separately; iOS apps from the iTunes App Store and Mac apps from the Mac App Store.

But if the same index.app file is double clicked in Mac 10.6.7 at out clients location, its not opening. For your information the client is able to open this same application by double clicking on index.swf file. The main problem is that client is not able to open the application using index.app file at their office whereas we are able to do so at our office. Can anyone give some suggestions to sort this problem?

The most common reason is different versions of Flash, or different versions of web browsers used. Some users may elect to not have Flash installed at all because of the processor overhead of Flash. If you are going to make an application for a client, check what operating system and browser versions they are using first. Then determine if a stand alone application is required, or if they have the necessary plugins to run specific browser enhanced code.
P.S. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control. Mac is the shorthand for Macintosh, the operating system and computers made by Apple Inc.

My team and I have to implement a security requirement to suit our company's needs.
The security requirements are that, users' password need to be aged (30 days maximum) and we need to provided a GUI front-end (JSP) to allow users to change their password when these expire after 30 days.
Our internal contacts in the company, have already taken the lead to find out about whether we will be able to use the WLS 6.1 platform to do this and the answer we got back, was.
Now we need to develop our own security module.
I have 2 questions:
1. How can we turn off the WLS security in order develop our own application-based security module?
2. How can we develop a security module that allows us to age users' password and provide them with facilities to change their passwords when these expire?
At the moment, we are using the default BEA WebLogic login.jsp page and there some configuration in the web.xml for this. I will be grateful if you could advise me on how to turn this default security off so that we can write our own security module.

So if I understand you properly, I need to create EOs for all my list of values (which are based on views of Oracle apps tables) and base my VO on those EOs. And then I setup associations between these EOs and the Item EO. Then I include the these EOs in my Items VO and add the description attributes to my list of attributes. I had done this for the list of users, but for the views of Oracle I had just created read only VO. Sounds like that won't work if I want to display the description. I know what to do - I guess I was hoping there was a way to use the read only VO.

Your question is not that very clear!! You want to convert the C api to a Java api? or you want to develop a Java application that uses the C api?
For the first question I believe that you should check the functionality of the C api and re-code it in Java! do not believe you should find anything imposible in that! (unless that api is trying to do something crzy directly with memory)
For the second question then I believe you will have to use native calling or something like that. I have never used it, but read about it, and it seems one way how Java can interect with C.
