Developing for Portals

Hi, I'm diving into Web Dynpro for Java and wondering if this is the tool used for developing Portal Applications?  I thought I remember hearing of a different toolset for developing portal applications?  Can anyone add some clarity to the what Web Dynpro would be used for and what is used for developing "Portal Applications"?
Thanks,
Ken Murray

  • Webdynpro development for portal integration

our requirement is to run the adoe interactive form in enterprise portal and store the entered data in SAP system.
Can i develop in NWDS (call LIfecycle designe inside) and create webdynpro object by selecting new project as
    1) webdynpro project or
    2) development component project and type as webdynpro and select domain is Enterprise portal etc.,
which one is correct way for webdynpro development and deploy in . If I select the 2nd option, how to deploy it.
    Please advise
    Thanks
    Gopal

    Hi Gopal,
    EP7:
Expand the local and sap.com webdynpro components.
You will see your WebDynpro  DC in "sap.com" which is the default vendor while creating a DC.
After you found the DC select an application and follow the other steps to create  an iView.
If it is WebDynpro Project then you can see that in local.
If you are using EP6 then follow the document:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/3e36d690-0201-0010-cd99-bfbb81bd33d9

  • Prerequisites for Portal Development

    Dear Community,
I am new in SAP, and it will be really nice to be a part of the Community Network.
I want to know what I am required to know before starting developing Portal in SAP.
And what are the tools and techs required?
    Thanks in advance..

    Dear Dayasankar,
    there is also another alternative.
If you already have knowledge with ABAP, this might be an interesting and easier alternative.
    I'm talking about
Webdynpro for ABAP (WD4A) or Businsess Servers Pages (BSP).
...and there is also ITS (Internet Transaction Server). But I would not consider it at all, because it is old and not supported anymore by SAP (I think).
These 2 alternatives might not be considered "pure" Portal developments because they run on the backend.
But if your idea is to develop something to run on the Portal as well, then the 2 alternatives above will  work perfectly.
So at the end, depends on what type of development you want to have on your Portal.
Do you need to extract data from the backend and develop some quick applications using transaction SE80 ?
Then please go for WD4A or BSPs.
If on the other hand you want to use the Portal APIs, develop for Portal KM (this is a tool exclusive on the Portal) or you want to integrate with other JAVA components ?
Then go for WD4J (Webdynpro for JAVA) or PAR develoment (Portal Archive componentes) - for all of these you will use JAVA and will need to develop your stuff with NWDS (Netweaver Developer Studio) as already mentioned.
Hope this helps you choose your way.
    Kind Regards
    /Ricardo Quintas

  • Workshop support for portal development

I have installed Weblogic platform 10.3, weblogic server and weblogic workshop gets installed. But when I open the workshop and search for portal perspective; it not there.
I have also installed Weblogic Portal 10.3.2, by which portal server, weblogic server and eclipse gets installed.
I need to create portal application and portal web project into workshop. but i am not able to find portal perspective or application.
Any help regarding will be highly appriciated.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    -- Prashant

Our sales rep told us yesterday that Workshop for WLS9 will be available around the end of the year.
Until then there is no upgrade path for current workshop apps either. That means that apps developed in Workshop 8.1 won't run in WLS9 apparently.

  • Sytax highlighiting for Jsp Dyn Pages for portal development.

    Hey,
I am doing JSP with the htmlb taglib for portals. When I edit a jsp page in the Developer Studio, I expect syntax highlighting. This is what I see in the documentation for jsp editing as well - you know where the keywords are highlighted.

OutputSuccess.jsp, OutputSuccessText.jsp are the two jsp's that are syntax highlighted on this page.
In my Developer Studio this is not the case. Is a JSP editor and its highlighting not part of the Developer Studio. If it is, how do I get it to work.
I also know that given the right taglib's, the editor also gives autocomplete for taglibs with its settings. I am hoping to speed up my development with this.
Right now I am using a text editor for this. There are a couple of jsp plugin's such as Exadel or Lomboz which I can integrate if a jsp syntax editor is not there in the Developer Studio. I just wanted to know the right way to go about this.
    Thank you for your help.
    Sumit.

Never mind. I was in the preview mode.

    Sim,
I believe there is no specific document/guide for each module. To create and modify web-based pages in Oracle Apps you need to use JDeveloper.
Note: 416708.1 - How to find the correct version of JDeveloper to use with eBusiness Suite 11i or Release 12.x
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=416708.1

    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=330236.1
You can also refer to the implementation document/guide of each module (iProcurement, iStore, ..etc) for the customization steps you need to follow (also, see Oracle Application Framework Personalization Guide).
    11i (11.5.10.2+ virtual) Documentation Library

I beg to differ. Please download the file yourself. When you unzip/tar, all that you see are WinNT files and no .a's or binaries that would run on sun. Once again, here are the links

  • Standard Transaction Vs Webdynpro ABAP development in Portal ?

    Hi All ,
I just need to know that if we do some kind of enhancement/modification in sap standard screen using the classical tools like screen painter etc. when we deploy these transaction on portal we will have those changes on the web based GUI or we need to developed the whole new development for that transaction to show on the portal ?. I know webdynpro for ABAP can be used for new developments but what if we just need a simple change on screen and we can achieve the goal using simple screen enhancement ? do we need to develop the screen again in webdynpro ?  Kindly can anybody explain this ?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Laeeq.

SAP ABAP screens are used by SAPGUI for Windows and SAPGUI for HTML and are presented exactly as the screen designer lays them out.  The portal can start either SAPGUI variant.
WebDynpro has nothing to do with existing SAP ABAP screens. You build new screens and then call BAPIs etc to populate the fields.
The portal can start a Web Dynpro application.
To change the look of an existing SAP ABAP screen you need to change the screen. If you want to completely change the screen, start building Web Dynpro programs.
    Cheers

  • Class not found Exception for Portal 4.0 console

    Hi Ravi,
For Portal questions, we have a newsgroup called
weblogic.developer.interest.personalization that would be able to help you
    more on this subject.
In the meantime, it sounds as if the installation of WLS 6.1sp1 wasn't done
properly. I would recommend reinstalling from scratch. Between the
installation of WLS 6.1sp1 and WLP 4.0, you can try running WLS 6.1 in the
mydomain domain, and see if you can access the console. If you can, then
you can continue with the WLP 4.0 installation.

  • Problem in developing a Portal Activity Report iView

I have developed a Portal Activity Report iView and assigned some iviews to the "Specify Report Content" option! I am supposed to get the user information but instead, I see the message "No content available for the specified period".
       Am I missing anything?
Can someone help me out in this regard!!!

Keep in mind that the Portal Activity Reporting functionality only collects user information from hits to <b>pages</b> that have the <b>Monitor Users</b> property set to true.  You can monitor the number of hits to an iView, but cannot collect user information about those hits.  If you need this kind of information for an iView, I would recommend adding the iView to a page and then collecting the activity reporting information you need from the <i>page</i> hits.

  • Global error page for portal project

    Hi
    This is regarding weblogic 8.1.

  • Saving/Printing all pages of Report developed in Portal....

    Hi friends,
How can I save a Report developed in Portal as soft file?
I know there is a feature in Customizing Report to enter the
File save as Excel and it will try to save file.
    I have 2 questions :
    a) How can I achieve saving the Report as html/ascii/excel file
when it has say 20000 rows ?.
(Because always when I run a report on browser it brings data
when I press "Next" and "previous" buttons.)
    b) If I need to print the Report to printer how can I print all
    pages of Report output?
Thanks a million for your valuable time.
    Sincerely
