Development options for LiveCycle (or LiveCycle like functionality)?

Hi,
I'm quite keen to get various bits LiveCycle to extend a web application. I'm particularly keen on on-the-fly PDF watermarking, rights management, auditing and certificate based authentication.
The problem is, we're a Microsoft shop, which doesn't preclude us from using Adobe solutions, but I'm very hesitant at putting in something that requires all new J2EE infrastructure (JBoss for example), as we have no experience in maintaining, let alone developing for.
Can someone advise me what my options are here? I know I could go to a third party and get them to do any development work, but then we just end up relying on them instead...
Or is LiveCycle sufficiently "open" (exposes it's functionality/services via web services or dotNet accessable APIs) that we're not likely to have to actually develop in Java?

Hi Craig,
Every service that LiveCycle exposes can be invoked as webservice. If you just think of the development then you can use LiveCycle process design tools and you wouldn't have to code in Java to create new services. But you don't have options in managing LiveCycle server. It will require J2EE infrastructure but you have options between jboss, weblogic, websphere...

ITunes Ping 'Like' function

Hi everyone,
For some time the 'Like" function of iTunes Ping in my Mac hasn't been functioning normally. When I'm in my own song library and click the Ping tab, clicking 'Like' doesn't cause Ping to post the update that I've liked a song to my Ping profile.
I know sometimes if iTunes Store doesn't offer the song which I clicked 'Like', it'll give me an error message. But I'm not talking of such a case. I'm talking about a song that is available in iTunes Store which I also own. Clicking 'Like' simply doesn't make Ping update my profile.
Does anyone have a similar problem or is it a bug? Can I solve it myself? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Ping is not getting major usage, so it is possible that Apple is not aware of the problem. I suggest that you report it via the Feedback page.

Duplex Printing options in Livecycle Designer ES

Hi all,
I am new to using Adobe Livecycle Designer ES 8.2.
Issues 1:
What are options available to print “Duplex Flip Long Edge” and “Duplex Flip Short Edge”.
I have tried the following options
File + Form Properties + PDF print options + “Selected Duplex Flip Short Edge. It has worked fine if I print from Designer itself to the particular printer.
Through the program I have created XDP to PS file. It won’t print in “Duplex Short Edge option”.
It has always printed in “Duplex Flip Long Edge”.
Any one can help me… Thanks in advance….

The problem is still actual. There are some ideas on this forum about solution for LiveCycle Desginer 6.x and 7.x via JavaScript and via settings (Form Properties->PDF print options). The both don't work in LiveCycle Designer 8.2. Is it a bug of 8.2 version?
I have noticed that property <pagination> in XML source has always value duplexLongEdge. It doesn't depend on value you entered in Form Properties->PDF print options. May be it's a reason? However I cannot change this value to duplexShortEdge.

But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud option in Acrobat. Kindly help me to sortout this problems?

So I tried generating the same PDFs on two other computers that have Acrobat 9 Pro. Results were reproduced. The verdict is:
- complex PDF files (that is, containing cross-references, tables of contents, and bookmarks) generated by Acrobat 9.x Pro are roughly 2-5x larger than the identical file generated with Acrobat 8.x Pro.
- different PDF conversion settings make a negligable difference (less than 10% rather than 70-80%).
- using the "Reduce File Size" or "Optimize PDF" option cuts the file size roughly in half, almost always resulting in a "image downsampling mask" warning message, which requires acknowledgement (that is a problem for batch processing or automation).
- adding an Acrobat watermark to the file cuts the file size roughly in half.
- just using Save As to another filename has no effect on file size.
- generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 with links but no PDF bookmarks still results in the inflated file size.
- generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 without any links or bookmarks results in approximately the same file size as the Acrobat 8 PDF with full links and bookmarks.
It appears that Acrobat 9's manner of adding links is what's bloating the files, and in my case it's probably not related to images or image resolution/print quality. It's a shame, because Acrobat 9 seems to have made some improvements to the Review Tracker interface, and a few other bells and whistles which I haven't really gotten around to exporing yet. But unless I find a way to keep my links and the PDF file sizes comparable to what I was getting with Acrobat 8 Pro, it looks like I'm going to stay with Acrobat 8.

Is Apple or any App Developer planning on improving ONE HANDED options for iPhone 6 Plus?

On my new iPhone 6+ even with the "reachability" double tap of the button where the top screen drops down, I still find the keyboard and icons to the far left so out of reach I MUST use two hands :-(.
I may have to return the phone as I MUST be able to truly use it with one hand in many of my situations. But if App developers or Apple are planning to make a apps or options to make the 6 Plus truly usable with one hand, I will keep it for sure.
Example idea: Allow MULTIPLE options for what happens when one "double taps the button." Keep Option 1 the way it is now (the top scrolls down). Make Option 2 like this: the entire screen simply scales down into bottom right corner so it appears to be the same size in hand as the iPhone 5 screen--the keyboard, icons, status icons, etc. ALL scale down so you use it with ease like the 5. Double tap again and it enlarges to the full screen.
Does anyone know if any developer can make an app that can take over the button or does Apple restrict that only to themselves in which case are their rumors that they know this is an issue and plan to solve it?

Developer Role for CRM Functional Team

I found a standard role SAPCRM_DEVELOPER , does it has sufficient Authorisations to carry out the config work in CRM or do we need any more additional Auth.

You don't need a role to development team. You can assign the auth. in dev system and perform the tests in the specifics roles.

Client flex app for livecycle es2

Hi all,
I am working on developing Flex client app for LiveCycle ES2. I need to implement authentication&authorization services in flex app. As far as I know, there is no efficient way to implement it in Flex. (At least I have tried couple of example from forums, it did not work properly at all. Once the browser is refreshed, the application gets initialized again and the session get lost...)
As far as I know, LiveCycle Workspace is a Flex app. After login to that application and once the browser is refreshed, the session state is kept. It seems session management is achieved for that application.
Is there any way to handle the same in flex client app?..

Setting up SQL Server for LiveCycle ES2

I have few queries regarding the installation please help.
I am trying to install livecycle ES2 in Windows 7 system,Weblogic 11g,Sql server 2005 Dev Sp3
1. In the installation guide under the section setting up sql server for Livecycle ES2 the below point mentioned .
Select the Memory page and enter a size in the Minimum Server Memory (in MB) box that is equal to
the size of the free memory on the server.
How to find the free memory on the server ??

2. Is It required to create LiveCycle ES2 database user, schema, and login in Sqlserver 2005 ? this step is not mentioned as optional why its required to create this stuffs ?
3. While installing the Live Cycle Server when the installer prompts for a database configuration popup which db i should point to is it the db created for Livecycle or it should be the db from which i want fetch the data?
4. In case if i am connecting to my application db (the place where my app data presents) where do i link the Livecycle db created with the Livecycle Server configuration?

Acceptable JDBC Latency for LiveCycle?

Does anyone have any thoughts/experience on acceptable latency times for LiveCycle?
By this I mean the trip time from the application server LiveCycle is running on to the database server it is using. In paticular I am interested in the user experience when developing processes in Workbench and the performance of the developed processes when invoked.

Replacement for LiveCycle Designer

I was informed recently by a client that Adobe is (will) be replacing LiveCycle Designer by a all new program, and it will be necessary to re-make all their forms with this new program, and they would rather use a contractor who is familiar with this new program.
Considering, I follow what’s going on with LiveCycle, I find it hard to believe that there is a new program that Adobe is coming out with to replace LiveCycle Designer ES4.
Could someone from Adobe confirm or deny the existence of this new program. My own opinion is that the new management just wishes to change contactors and is not being honest.

That is completely false. There is no replacement for LiveCycle Designer ES4 and you will not have to remake you forms in some other tool. Designer will continue to exist and be enhanced. As you might know we just had a major release in March and a service pack release in Sept which included updates to Designer.
