Device swamped on SG300 switch

Hi,
I have a recently purchased 28 port SG300 switch. Everything is working well. Unfortunately there is so much traffic flying around that a 10MB half duplex device is struggling to function as it is overloaded. Removing some of the sources of traffic fixes it.
Fortunately I only need to access that device from one PC on the network. That PC however needs to access everything else on the network.
Is there a simple way to shield the slow device from everything except traffic from the PC ?
The switch is in Level2 mode at the moment.
Everything is on a single subnet.

Hi Chris,
wow interesting synopsis, I'm guessing this traffic may be multicast IP traffic or a very busy broadcast network?.
I think,  you are inclinded to putting the switch into layer 3 mode and run layer 3 switching between two vlans, the existing vlan and a VLAN containing the 10MB half duplex device?
Could be a instant way to reduce broadcast and/or multicasts hitting the 10MB half duplex device from the existing network.
regards Dave

A member of which VLAN ID is that device from which you trying to reach that switch?
Is that device directly connected to switch WasteWaterSG30010MPP? If yes, to which port?
If you are connecting from different VLAN than VLAN2, are you using routing between VLANs? Where is that routing device connected to?
    > I also have another switch that connects to the network through this switch and am able to telnet to it.
that second switch member of same VLAN 2? Or management is part of different VLAN?
..too few information to be able to give you final answer.

  • Blackberry Device Manager can't find 9320 Bluetooth device (even Bluetooth is switched on and set to Discoverable)

I want to sync my Blackberry 9320 via Bluetooth to a Windows 7 Professional machine using a Bluetooth adapter. Syncing using USB cable works fine.
I can Bluetooth pair with the 9320 and also send / receive files to /from the Windows 7 machine. Fantastic !
HOWEVER, Blackberry Device Manager can not find the 9320 Bluetooth device (even Bluetooth is switched on and set to Discoverable) - see screen shots below.
By the way I have already tried (amongst other things) “Manually Install RIM Virtual Serial Ports in Microsoft® Windows® 7” on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gK2n5dHxGHI  Unfortunately, this does now work - the drivers do load up OK and remove the warning signs when view in Windows Device Manager, but Blackberry Device Manager still can't see my 9320.
    Please help !

I have the exact same problem with my 9360. I have also tried all the fixes I could find on the Internet with no luck. I have posted a request as well. I will let you know if I find a solution. What gets me though is that this appears to be a long standing issue with no obvious fix! Best of luck.

  • "ip routing" command on SG300 switch

What does "ip routing" do on the CLI on the SG300?
When I do this, I see it enables ip forwarding, but there is no mention of this in the CLI manual.  I'm just trying to figure out what I would use this for, and if I should leave it enabled, or disable it.
I have several different SG300 switches in L3 mode, and they are set up in a multi-vlan environment...
    Thanks,
    scott

Ah, ok, thanks. I guess that was pretty obvious, now that I know the answer.
The "ip routing" command isn't mentioned anywhere in the CLI documentation, but I guess if I'd thought about it a little longer, I may have come to the same conclusion.
    Thanks Tom.

Had the same issue and finally solved it.  After the upgrade to Mavericks our 2 new Macbook Airs stopped connecting automatically to Wifi while the older machines the kids had still worked fine.
Bought a new airport extreme and problem solved.   Our Airport Extreme was about 5 years old and was probably not compatible with the new OSX.
BTW this was after trying everything people suggested on this forum and a 4 hour marathon tech support call with Apple where we reinstalled the OSX.
***** to need to spend $200 but glad the problem got solved.
New extreme is also mega fast so its all good.

  • Question Re IAS/RADIUS 802.1x Authentiction on SG300 Switches

    Good Morning All,
We have just aquired one of these new SG300 series switches which gives us the ability to play around with 802.1x authentication.
We have everything configured correctly for any clients which have 802.1x (eg PC's, IP Phones)
Our problem comes to non 802.1x compliant devices, in this case a printer.  The documentation says the switch should detect there is no 802.1x client, and pass the authentication as itself, with the username.  It does this, but we get a weird error on our ISA server...  Its weird, I am puzzled.  We have some other vendor switches which perform this without causing the below issue, so am I missing something easy?
    Help greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    Can you do the following:
Go to IAS > Remote Access Policies > Double click on the policy CISCO_FWCORP_PCMACS .
    Click Edit Profile.
On the Authentication tab, click EAP Methods.
In Select EAP providers, click Add.  Select the authentication methods that you want to use, and then click OK.
In Select EAP providers, click the EAP type that you  want to configure, and then click Edit. Depending on  the EAP type selected, one of the following dialog boxes is displayed:
If Protected EAP (PEAP) is selected, the Protected  EAP Properties dialog box opens. In Certificate Issued,  select the certificate that the server uses to identify itself to  client computers. To enable PEAP fast reconnect for 802.11 wireless  client computers, click Enable Fast Reconnect.  Secure  password user authentication with EAP-MSCHAPv2 is the default in EAP  Types. To configure EAP-MSCHAPv2 properties, click Edit.  To configure certificate or smart card user authentication click Add.  In Authentication methods, click Smart Card or  other certificate, and then click OK.
If Smart Card or other Certificate Properties is  selected, the Smart Card or other Certificate Properties dialog box opens. In Certificate issued to, select the  certificate that the server uses to authenticate to client computers.
In Select EAP providers, click Move Up or Move Down to specify the negotiation order of EAP  methods. The server starts negotiation with the client according to the  order specified in EAP types.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT201303 I own two apple ids with 2 different devices how can I switch IDs on a device?

I have an IPhone 5 and just got an IPad. I set up a new Apple ID for IPad but can not download my apps from IPhone how can I switch on my IPad to apps I had purchased on my IPhone. I want to play my games on larger screen.

There is no "adding" a device.  Simply plug the iDevice into the computer.  iTunes should automatically detect the device when it is connected.
iTunes can sync/manage as many iDevices as you want... there is no 1 device limit.

  • I seem to have 2 Apple IDs, one on my MacBook Pro and another on my devices.  If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud.  I have no idea how I go 2 IDs

    one on my MacBook Pro
That's not an Apple ID. That is your admin account which you can view in System Preferencs > Accounts or Users & Groups.
If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud.  I have no idea how I go 2 IDs
Just use your current Apple ID when you setup your iCloud account that you use for your devices.

  • Can I share my iPod with other devices using a USB *Switch*?

    Hello
I'm trying to design a set up that will allow me to share my iPod with my PS3, Xbox 360, and G4 Powerbook. I only need to use one sharing device at a time.
As of now I plan to have my 30Gb iPod Video, a USB Keyboard, and USB Mouse, running through a Belkin USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Hub. The hub will plug into a 4-way manual USB switch. (allowing me switch between the PS3, 360, and G4 devices)
My goal is to easily switch and stream content to any device from my iPod, as well as provide the switched device with instant access to the Keyboard and mouse plugged into the hub. Hopefully the hub will also be able to power the ipod and and charge a bluetooth headset as well.
I'd like to know if anyone has experience with a similar setup, and more specifically if there are any reasons why this wouldn't work properly?
My main worry is that there is no way to eject the iPod on the Xbox 360 or the PS3. So if I switched the USB port while the iPod is reading "Do Not Disconnect", do I risk corrupting the data or otherwise harm the iPod?
Any help would be appreciated, please let me know if I should clarify any details.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Cannot get SG300 switch to send RADIUS messages for 802.1x

I  want to eventually configure the SG300 to authenticate wired clients with 802.1x and Microsoft NPS (RADIUS). I am currently testing this setup using a single port (Port 7) on my SG300, a test machine, and an AD based Network Policy Server.
The problem I have is that when I change the Administrative Port Control for Port 7 to Force Authorized, I see this log entry:
Informational %SEC-I-PORTAUTHORIZED: Port gi7 is Authorized
And then when I change the port control to Auto the port immediately changes to Unauthorized and I see this log entry:
Warning %SEC-W-PORTUNAUTHORIZED: Port gi7 is unAuthorized
However I never see any RADIUS messages being sent from the SG300 to my RADIUS server or from the SG300 to the test machine plugged into port 7. I am using WireShark on my RADIUS server to watch for messages from the SG300 IP Address and I'm using WireShark on a second test machine that is configured to monitor the NIC card in the test machine plugged into port 7 (I'm using Hyper-V and its facilities for this NIC monitoring setup.)
    Here is my configuration:
    Switch - 10.1.1.3
    RADIUS (Microsoft NPS)- 10.1.1.15
Switch Usage Type - All (Login and 802.1x)
    Port 7 configuration:
    VLAN Mode is General
Host Authentication is Single Host Authentication
    Administrative Port Control is Auto
    RADIUS VLAN Assignment is Disabled
    Guest VLAN is Enabled
    802.1x Based Authentication is Enabled
Additional Configurations under Security - 802.1x/MAC/Web Authentication:
    Port Based Authentication is Enabled
    Authentication Method is RADIUS
    Guest VLAN is Enabled
    Guest VLAN ID is 2
All of my VLANs are enabled for Authentication
I've got to be missing something but I do not know what that something is.
    One last note:
The SG300 uses the same RADIUS server for management console access and it works without problem. When I log into the switch, WireShark shows the RADIUS messages from the switch to the RADIUS server and back. So I know RADIUS is configured correctly on the switch.

  • Deny device by IP on switch port.

Is there a method of preventing a device with an IP address of 172.25.*.1 (* = any number) from being allowed on the network? The problem I am facing is the end user incorrectly configuring a device and using the .1 gateway address. We run DHCP and have multiple vlans.
I have thought about 802.1x but then all the devices must run a suplicant/client in order to connect and some devices are not capable of doing this.
the ideal solution would be the ability to detect the fraudulant gateway address on the edge port and disable the port.

    How about something like this?:
    Switch(config)#ip access-list standard 50
    Switch(config-std-nacl)#deny 172.25.0.0 0.0.255.255
    Switch(config-std-nacl)#permit any
    Switch(config)#int range fa0/1 - 24
    Switch(config-if-range)#ip access-group 50 in
    sh run... (example)
    interface FastEthernet0/20
    switchport access vlan 6
    ip access-group 50 in
    spanning-tree portfast
Placing an access-list on the router would be a better solution if you have access to the router or High End switch with a switching module like the 6509 series.

  • Device Package for 3750X Switches

Is there a Cisco Works Device Package for the new 3750X switches?  Just bought
159 3750X-48PS-S switches to go with over 1000 3750G switches.

Thanks for the correction - I missed them when checking my earlier post.
3750X's ARE on both the LMS3.2 support list and the LMS4.0 / 4.01 support lists.
As you mentioned, applying the latest device support package will add them to the fold.

  • 4500x losing connectivity to SG300 switches issue

I have a new Catalyst 4500X-16 SFP+ Switch with ten GLC-SX-MMD SFP modules connected to ten Cisco SG300-10 switches with MGBSX1 SFP modules.  The 4500X is all default config except all I did was setup SSH so I can manage remotely.  I have GB connectivity between small SG300-10 switches and 4500X switch without any problems at all, until the SG300 reboots.  If power goes out or SG300 is restarted for any reason, it does not communicate with the 4500X switch any longer.  If I restart the 4500X, then connectivity is restored.  I don't see any port security setup or no ports are down...everything appears up, but I can't communicate until I restart the 4500X switch.
I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting this one.  I am putting battery units on each SG300-10 switch, but that is just a temporary fix and I'd like to get to the core of the problem.
    4500X is running IOS-XE Version 3.05.00.E
