DG4ODBC - MySQL in 11.2.0 or 11g XE
Hi - I've been struggling on and off for weeks with this - so fed up with ODBC connectivity!!!
4 years ago I was finally able to get heterogeneous connectivity on 10g/Windows to SQL Server using HSOLEDB but that's apparently not an option anymore as HSODBC/HSOLEDB are no longer supported in lieu of the transparent gateways. I've been through all forums/metalink/MOS for weeks and can't for the life of me get DG40DBC to work with MySQL. Have tried on our core server: x86_64 RHEL 5/10.2.0.3 Enterprise with Gateways 11g, a dev server: x86_64 RHEL 5/11g/11g XE x86_64, and now a Windows Vista x86 virtual machine (11g XE) as a test. XE 11g with HSODBC and Dg4ODBC 11g XE includes the dg4odbc binaries and should work, so I wasn't about to do a full 11g Ent install to test this.
My ODBC system DSN source works using the correct version of MyODBC.
My lsnrctl status shows the proper "UNKNOWN" like it always does...
TNSPING DG4ODBC shows a "TNS-12538: TNS:no such protocol adapter", which is replaced with "no listener" if I adjust my tnsnames.ora, so tnsnames should not be a problem.
I've tried adding dg4odbc to each the standard listener and a new separate listener with no luck in either case.
I've tried every combination of capitalization/case sensitivity troubleshooting in initdg4odbc.ora/listener.ora/tnsnames.ora/db link creation.
All windows software firewalls/daykillers disabled.
There appear to be no trace logs no matter what log level I use in initdg4odbc.ora.
Selection from my db link always yields:
ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 65535
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from DG4ODBC
I've poured over everything from official documentation/forums/Donny B and nothing has helped. My end result is I need some kind of generic connectivity to MySQL from the Linux x86_64 10.2.0.3 Enterprise server but I can't get this going in ANY environment. Soooo fed up with this but I know this must be a simple fluke that someone can see by looking over my shoulder.... please? A solution, a solution. My kingdom for a solution.

Hi,
A couple of points.
1. If you are using Dg4ODBC 11g then you need to be at at least RDBMS 10.2.0.4. If you are using 10.2.0.3 then you need to apply patch 5965763 to your RDBMS. For Windows this is included in the later patchsets.
2. I got a copy of this update in a mail and it looks like you may have the incorrect format for your tnsnames.ora file. However, in the your post all the line spacings have been lost. So, can you make sure that the tnsnames.ora entry has at least 1 space before every line except for the first, for example -
DG4ODBC =
<space> (DESCRIPTION =
<space> (ADDRESS_LIST =
<space> (ADDRESS =
<space> (PROTOCOL = TPC)
<space> (HOST = localhost)
<space> (PORT = 1521))
<space> )
<space> (CONNECT_DATA =
<space> (SERVICE_NAME = DG4ODBC)
<space> )
<space> (HS = OK)
<space> )
and the same for the listener.ora - after the first line of each section make sure there is at least one space.
If you are not getting any dg4odbc trace files it indicates that the gateway executable is not being started with could be a listener problem. Is there anything in the listener log to indicate a problem starting the gateway executable ?
If you still have problems then could you load your configuration files again but make sure all the spaces at the beginning of each line are preserved and the full output shown in SQLPLUS for a failing select ?

Mike

Migrating mysql 5.0.45 to Oracle 11g
I am usign SQL developer 1.5 on Ubuntu Hardy . I am able to capture and convert model , but when I try to generate oracle DDL ,, generate ORACLE SQL box only show 11 sequences .
I have 94 tabkles , 154 indexes ...etc. I tried using Sun 1.5 and Sun 1.6 JVM. When I look at the sql file on my linux box , it only has statement to create user and 11 sequeces I am unable to figure out what is going on . Can some one please explain.
This is how I installed SQL developer
Down loaded sqldeveloper1.5 for Redhat
Used alien to convert it to Debian
dpkg -i the package
Installed JVM through spt-get install jvm
Anyhelp is appreciated
Thanks
VipulHello Sir,
At the outset, I would like to convey my regards for extending your support to resolve the issue.
My objective is to migrate MySQL 5 database entirely to Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 database.
I have been using SQLDeveloper 1.2.2998. as migration tool. The Plugin is mysql-connector-java-5.0.6.jar. The steps which I followed for Migration are as follows.
1. Create a New connection for source database for MySQL
2. Create a New connection for target database for Oracle
3. Create Repository for Target database.
4. Associate Repository
5. Quick Migrate
I was able to migrate all the tables. But Views, Procedures, Functions and Triggers were not effected in the oracle database. While I found by selecting the procedures in the Converted Model that the syntax remained same as of MySQL. I raised the issue in Oracle Metalink. They have filed a Bug 6275523. But the issue is very sensitive to our business due to time frame as the alternative is only manual migration. Please do help me in this issue of migrating Stored procedures, Views, Functions and triggers into Oracle. -
Hello
I am trying to import a MySQL dump file to a Oracle 11G R2 database. Has anyone done this before? I have sqldeveloper installed but, am not sure if I can use that tool to import a .sql MySQL file. Anyone know of a good reference guide..or even better has anyone done this before?
Brian SimsI am still stuck, so I think I can use the offline method in SQL Developer but I am not sure how to create the migration repository? Any ideas. I check in the documentation link but it does not give a good explanation of what to do for offline migrations. Do you or anyone know of a document that goes into that more deeply?
The guy that gave me this data dump was doing me a favor I would rather not ask him to export it a different way if I did not absolutely have to.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Oracle and MySql via ODBC - Field with special characters
Hi,
I recentely installed and configured DG4ODBC 11.2 in my environment, with Oracle 10g as Database. I have a working ODBC and I can successfully select from tables@mysql.
I have a problem with some fields in the mysql table though: various fields are named "Attività", "Località" and so on. Please, note the "à" character.
Now if I select @mysql from some table with normal field name everything works fine. But in some case I have this error:
[MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver][mysqld-5.0.77]Unknown column 'A1.attivit??A commessa'
in 'field list' {42S22,NativeErr = 1054}
The field true name is "attività commessa" and if in a test database I rename the field changing that "à" with a normal "a" everything start working. But of course, that is a production database and I can't change the field name.
Anyone faced that problem before?
My init entry:
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = myodbc5
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = off
HS_FDS_SHAREABLE_NAME = /usr/lib64/libmyodbc5.so
HS_FDS_SQLLEN_INTERPRETATION=32
HS_FDS_FETCH_ROWS=1
HS_LANGUAGE=ITALIAN_ITALY.I8EBCDIC280
set ODBCINI=/usr/local/etc/odbc.ini
set SQL_MODE='ANSI_QUOTES'
Note: I added HS_LANGUAGE and SQL_MODE but tried even without those entries and it's still not working.
My odbc.ini:
[myodbc5]
Driver = /usr/lib64/libmyodbc5.so
Description = MySQL Driver DSN
SERVER = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
PORT = 3306
USER = user
Password = pass
Database = sm_test
OPTION = 3
SOCKET =
CHARSET = latin1
P.S.: Please don't kill me, I'm not the creator of the Mysql database with those field names!I've created your test table in my Oracle database using this extra character and I'm able to describe it properly.
SQL> desc test;
Name Null? Type
ATTIVITÀ VARCHAR2(40)
My character set being used is:
SQL> select * from v$nls_parameters;
NLS_CHARACTERSET
WE8ISO8859P15
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET
AL16UTF16
NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS
BYTE
So as long as it doesn't work for you in your native Oracle database I don't think it would work with DG4ODBC. So yes, it would be best to log a service request so that the Oracle database support can check out the NLS issue.
Edited by: kgronau on Sep 28, 2011 9:21 AM
To be complete here the describe of the MySQL table native and using DG4ODBC:
mysql> create table TEST (attività Varchar(40));
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
mysql> desc TEST;
---------------------------------------------------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
---------------------------------------------------+
| attività | varchar(40) | YES | | NULL | |
---------------------------------------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.2.0 Production on Wed Sep 28 09:20:17 2011
SQL> desc "gateway"."TEST"@MYSQL_DG4ODBC_EMGTW_1122_DB;
Name Null? Type
attività VARCHAR2(80)
So in general it should work. -
I succesfully configured and performed the goldengate replication from MySQL 5.1 to Oracle XE 11g using GG 11g as per
http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/goldengate/11g/GGS_Sect_Config_UX_MSQ_to_UX_ORA.pdf
After replication was successully started working I added a new column to one of the test tables TCUSTMER
ALTER TABLE TCUSTMER ADD COLUMN ADDRESS VARCHAR(64) DEFAULT NULL;
And inserted another row in the same table.
INSERT INTO TCUSTMER VALUES ('CLARK', 'CLARK BOATS', 'REDWOOD', 'CA', 'Test Addresss1');
As soon as I did that the replication broke.
2015-04-16 17:42:44 ERROR OGG-00146 VAM function VAMRead returned unexpected result: error 600 - VAM Client Report <CAUSE OF FAILURE : Table Metadata Altered cause
WHEN FAILED : While processing table map event in log processor
Then I reverted the DDL change back to original
ALTER TABLE TCUSTMER DROP COLUMN ADDRESS;
and tried to run the replication again
But it is not starting as before.
What should I do to move forward with same setup.Hi ,
Whenever you do a DDL change in the Source table, you have to make the same changes in the Target side also. Then recreate the Definition File, copy it to the Target side and Start the GoldenGate processes.
1. Add the column in the Target side.
2. Recreate the Definition File and copy it to the Target side.
3. Recreate the Replicat process in the Target side and try to start it.
Hope this works..!!!!!!!! Any other suggestions friends????????

URGENT: OVD 11g SQL Adapter?
Hi all,
I have a requirement to have OVD 11g talk to MY SQL backend. Is there a connector/adapter available out of the box for OVD 11g? If so, can you please give the links to documentation? If it is not available, can someone throw light on building a custom connector/adapter for OVD11g? This is very urgent.
Thanks,
Mahendra.I think there is a template for MySQL 5.x adapter in OVD 11g. Not 100% sure though. Even if there is not, you can use the "custom" database adapter template, which will work. Here is the link which describes the adapters in OVD: http://www.art2dec.com/documentation/docs/fmw11g1114documentation/oid.1111/e10046/basic_adapters.htm#CHDFCEAE
Read the section on "custom url" for database adapters and you would be good. You will have to place the required sql jar files in the OVD lib path as well.
Hope this helps. Let us know.
PS: Do not write "urgent" in public posts for people who are volunteering to help for free. :-) -
Accessing Postgres from Oracle using DG4ODBC and psqlodbc very slow
I have set up DG4ODBC on a Windows 2003 32-bit 11g Oracle database to access a Windows 2008 64-bit 9.1 Postgres database, using the psqlodbc driver (32-bit).
I am able to issue queries, but they are very slow. The reason is that the where clause of the query is being removed somewhere along the line (I have seen the actual queries run by Postgres using pgAdmin server status screen), and all the rows in the table are retrieved from Postgres. Naturally with tables bigger than a few rows that means doing a full table scan in Postgres, as well as transferring lots of bytes through the network.
For instance, if I query from Oracle like this: select * from "dps_user"@pg where "id" = '2423', the sql run at Postgres is this: select * from dps_user, which retrieves all rows on the table! When I get the query result in Oracle, I only get the row with id 2423, so I assume that Oracle gets the whole table, and does the filtering at its end.
In a 32-bit Windows XP separate machine I have set up the same psqlodbc driver, and I have run the same query using Microsoft Query. In this case, the query run in Postgres contains the where clause, and therefore it is much faster because a unique index scan is performed in Postgres, and only one row is transferred back to Microsoft Query.
Could you help me, please?
Thanks a lot,
CarlosHi Mike,
Thanks a lot for your help. The gateway version must be 11.2.0.3 since the Oracle database has patchset 11.2.0.3 applied.
This is the ini file once I changed the trace level:
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = pg
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 255
I tried this query:
select *
from dps_user
where id = 'W106606';
Where dps_user is a view on the Oracle database which translates to this:
CREATE OR REPLACE FORCE VIEW dps_user (ID,
login,
first_name,
last_name,
lastactivity_date,
registration_date,
email,
email_status,
receive_email
AS
SELECT "id", "login", "first_name", "last_name", "lastactivity_date",
"registration_date", "email", "email_status", "receive_email"
FROM "dynamo_web"."dps_user"@pg.es.lladro.com;
The generated trace file is:

Hi,
on a windows 2008 machine that has the Oracle instant client 11_1 installed (11.01.00.06) i am calling SQLDriverConnect in the following way:
std::string str = "Driver={Oracle in instantclient11_1};Dbq=//10.10.101.66:1521/orcl;;Uid=myUser;pwd=a;b";
odbcRc = SQLDriverConnect(hdbc, NULL, (SQLTCHAR*)str.c_str(), str.size(), (SQLTCHAR*)szConnStrOut, 1024, &cbConnStrOut, SQL_DRIVER_NOPROMPT)) == SQL_ERROR);
as long as the password contains no special chars (namely semicolon) it works fine. but when I try to use special chars in the password It stops working, with an invalid username/password error.
State: 28000 Native error: 1017 Message: [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
i tried different variations of adding " (\") over the password, over the entire pwd=a;b or braces { but nothing seems to work.
the thing is that using ODBC works! what I did was:
open ODBC, go to System DSN tab, add "Oracle in instantclient11_1", then fill the following information:
Data source name: Anything
TNS Service Name: //10.10.101.66:1521/orcl
User ID: myUser
then i press test connection, enter the password "a;b"
and it works!
I cannot figure out what's my problem.
Thanks,
Roy.I've created your test table in my Oracle database using this extra character and I'm able to describe it properly.
SQL> desc test;
Name Null? Type
ATTIVITÀ VARCHAR2(40)
My character set being used is:
SQL> select * from v$nls_parameters;
To be complete here the describe of the MySQL table native and using DG4ODBC:
mysql> create table TEST (attività Varchar(40));
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
mysql> desc TEST;
---------------------------------------------------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
---------------------------------------------------+
| attività | varchar(40) | YES | | NULL | |
---------------------------------------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.2.0 Production on Wed Sep 28 09:20:17 2011
SQL> desc "gateway"."TEST"@MYSQL_DG4ODBC_EMGTW_1122_DB;
Name Null? Type
attività VARCHAR2(80)
So in general it should work. -

unsigned flag was the culprit of this error
I am able to insert null after removing unsigned flag.

DBDriver failed to load dbd_oci.dll while creating universe
Hello All,
I am trying to create a universe with Oracle as source. When I logged into Universe Designer and proceed to created a universe by selecting oracle 11 as data source, the designer throws an error:
" (CS) "DBDriver failed to load : C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\dataAccess\connectionServer\dbd_oci.dll (%1 is not a valid Win32 application.)" .
Below are the environment details:
OS : windows 2008 server 64 bit
BO Server : BOE 3.1 sp3 32 bit
CMS : MySQL 5.1
Oracle Client: Oracle 11g 64 bit client is installed.
I have set the path and environment variables relating to oracle as well.
If I create a DSN and test connection it works fine. Please let me know your suggestions and inputs to resolve this error.
Thanks

Database link from Oracle 11g (64 bit) to MySQL over UnixODBC with dg4odbc
Hello,
I want to connect to a MySQL Database from Oracle over a database link, but i get always the Error Message ORA-28528: Heterogeneous Services datatype conversion error .
In the forum or internet I can't find a solution for my problem, so I try now to post this problem.
Here a detailed description of the problem:
I use a Oracle 11.1.0.7.0 64bit database which is running on a redhat linux 5.3 64bit.
I want to connect to a MySql Database 5.0, which is running on a redhat linux 5.2 32bit over unixODBC.
The configuration from the ODBC seems to be good, because with isql on the ora server I can connect and query all data correct from the MySQL database.
Also the tsnnames.ora and listener.ora should be configured correctly. The tnsping works also fine.
But when i try to catch the data over SQLPlus with the database link I always get the error ORA-28528.
If I try to select just one column it works, but the returned data are incomplete or truncated.
the version of my libs:
between mysql and odbc I use libmyodbc3.so version 3.51.12-2.2 (I also tried the version 5, but with them I get a segmentation fault error on isql).
between odbc and dg4odbc I use libodbc.so version 2.2.11-7.1
Has anybody a solution or hint for me?
Many Thanks in advance,
best regards from Austria
Manuel

maybe you are facing bug 6772397, so do a search on metalink for bug 6772397

Dg4odbc to MySQL update errors: "does not support IS NULL in this context"
I am having a problem with 'where x is null' clauses in update statements to MySQL from 11g, using dg4odbc. Updates using the clause 'where x is null' return errors like this:
ORA-02070: database PLAZAHOST does not support IS NULL in this context
The rejected queries never get to mysql. Furthermore, I noticed that select statements with 'where x is null' show up in the mysql query log with the where clause stripped out, although correct results are returned to SQLPlus. It looks as though 'where x is null' is stripped off by dg4odbc, which subsequently applies a secondary filter to the results received from MySQL.
Note, both statements above work properly when issued from the MySQL client.
Has anybody seen this? It's a big problem for me, but I can't find any references to other people having the same problem, so I assume I've got something misconfigured -- but I don't know what.
I'm using MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver, MySQL 5.1 Community Edition, and Oracle 11g R1 all running on a 32-bit Windows server.
Thank you -- rick

Dg4odbc 11.2 to mysql desc table issue, query return only one record
<h2>Hi,
I have the following set up:
11g R2 RAC oracle database, dg4odbc 11.2, UnixODBC 2.3 driver manager, MySQL ODBC 5.1.7 Driver on 64 bit Suse SLES 11 server.
Remote database MySQL version 5.0.67 running on 32 bit linux server.
I am having the following Issues:
1. When desc table, sometimes only the first field is shown:
SQL> desc sub_index@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
SQL> desc "sub_index"@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
Some other times I am able to see the correct table definition:
SQL> desc "sub_index"@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
sess_id NUMBER(10)
sess_yr NUMBER(10)
subject_name VARCHAR2(255)
SQL> desc sub_index@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
2. Select count(*) returns the total number of rows correctly. Select * or Select "field name" from table returns only one row:
SQL> select count(*) from "mbt_user"@mybilltracker;
COUNT(*)
2
SQL> select "user_id", "email" from "mbt_user"@mybilltracker; _(always return only one record!)_
user_id email

I have a some problem with creation gateway to connection to MySQL, and I hope somebody can help me.
So,

What I do wrong? Please help meHi,
You can download the 11.1.0.7 patchset from My Oracle Support -
support.oracle.com
as patch 6890831.
Once logged in click on 'Patches and Updates' and enter the patch number as 6890831 and choose whichever platform you are running.
the readme explains how to apply the patch to an existing 11.1.0.6 install.
The url you posted is only for complete product installs, but 11.1.0.7 is only a patchset that must be applied to an existing install.
Regards,
Mike -

Has anyone encountered similar issue while configuring dg4odbc....I never had trouble with hsodbc. Since hsodbc is desupported , We are evaluating dg4odbc and openlink odbc
drivers to establish connectivity to mysql and stuck at this point.
Any suggestion from gateway gurus ?
Thanks in advance,
