Diadem 9.1 - "Data set:Properties" Query

Within the Data entry window of Diadem Version 8.1 there is a drop down menu from the "Edit" header titled "Dat set properties....".
Where is the equivalent feature within Diadem 9.1?

That information is in two places as of DIAdem 9.x. The scaler data set properties are in the property window at the bottom of the Data Portal, just highlight the Data Set/Root level of your Data Portal (it's the blue cylinder icon at the top), then glance down to the property window. You will see the "Title", "Description", "Author", "Storage Date", and "Storage Time" properties there that you used to see in the dialog you mention.
The remaining properties are the Data Set Comments, which you can now access by again right-clicing on the Data Set/Root level of your Data Portal (it's the blue cylinder icon at the top), then selecting "Data set comments..."-- this pops up a dialog to display/edit the Data Set Comments. These comments WILL be saved if you save the file as a TDM file.

Is there a way to consolidate calculations used in SQL Query Data Sets?

I am building SQL Query Data Sets against multiple DB Views which all have different date formats. I have the date parameter working well, but want to consolidate the changes that I have to do to it especially for the quarter. For example the SQL against a monthly view would use "where year_month > to_char(:ST_DATE, 'YYYY-MM')" which is not too hard, but to make that work for the quarterly view I need several concats and a decode to get a "> '2012-Q2'". I would like not to have to do this within every where clause. I had put this into a global element hoping to use that in a filter for the data set, but the filter does not have access to global elements only parameters.
Is there any way to refer to a calculated global element from the data set to do this? I am using Layout Templates, so even if I wanted to I could not do the condition within the template.

I'm facing a strange problem..
I've developed few reports. they are working fine in develop environment. after successfull testing they were published on web.
in web version, all reports are executing for first time.. if I change any of parameters values or without chaning also..
if I press "View Report" following error occurs..
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Query execution failed for data set 'dsMLGDB2Odbc'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
please suggest any alternative ways to overcome this issue

other for testers
in developers i created a report, then save like *.rdl and copy to testers machine, does not work there

If I understand correctly, you want to pass distinct values to report parameter. In Reporting Service, there are only three methods for parameter's Available Values:
None
Specify values
Get values from a query
If we utilize the third option that get values from a dataset query, then the all available values are from the returns of the dataset. So if we want to pass distinct values from a dataset, we need to make the dataset returns distinct values. The following
sample is for your reference:
Select distinct field_name from table_name

Query execution failed for data set

Hi,
We are using SQL 2005 server for generating reports.When we ran the reports it taking so much time after some time it shows this error:---
ReportProcessing.ProcessingAbortedException: An error has occurred during report processing. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.ReportProcessingException: Query execution failed for data set ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

My team is also facing similar problem. The RS trace logs report:

Operation cancelled by user.
In our system, Report Server and Database are on different machines. Report Server access database using a service account who has stored proc execute permissions on database.
Problem comes only if the query execution time exceeds 5 mins. Otherwise the report gets generated successfully.
I suspected this to be some timeout issue. But I have checked that all timeout settings in rs config files are as default.
Any pointers?

Use data set from a SqlDataSource as an input table for another query

I have a ASP.net winforms app with C# code behind. I am trying to provide a forecasting function that would allow users to perform "what if" analysis on parts of the database without changing the underlying database. Currently this forecast works
by taking the production schedule from a table and running it against the forecasting query. What I'm trying to accomplish is allowing the user to have a copy of the data in a gridview so they can edit it and see the differences between their schedule and
the current.
My first attempt involved having a SqlDataSource create a temporary table and populate it with data from the main database. This allows for the first part (giving the user a copy of the data set to manipulate without changing the original). I tried to create
a second SQLDataSource and reference the temporary table but it is not valid and appears that the temp table only exists in the session called by the first SqlDataSource.
Currently the first data source looks like this

Problem with a data set: DIAdem crashes

Hi,
I've got a problem with a data set. When I want to zoom in DIAdem-View, DIAdem crashes with the following message (translated from German ;-):
error type: FLOAT INEXACT RESULT or FLOAT INVALID OPERATION or FLOAT STACK CHECK
error address: 00016CB8
module name: gfsview.DLL
I've got some similar data set not showing such problems. Further on I scanned the data a bit, but in the 59000 points I didn't see anything special. I did try to delete "NOVALUE"s as well, but after that there still exist "NOVALUE"s.
Does anyone have an idea what to look for?

Appending or Replacing data sets in DIAdem

I was wondering if there was an easy way to take new data points and append them to old data points already loaded into DIAdem. Similarly I would be interested in just replacing the old data with the new
I have a data set I have uploaded from an excel file into DIAdem. Within DIAdem I have manipulated data and made several graphs for presentations. Since that first upload of data I now have acquired new data. That new data is in the same format as the old data, it's simply that there are more data points now. So it would be nice to know how to either append or replace the old data while keeping all the formatting.
Right now the easiest way I've found is to copy and paste data into a new Excel file and upload it. DIAdem scripts have proven buggy and inefficient. I can't believe Excel would handle appending better than DIAdem. There must be an easy way to do this that I am missing. Any help would be appreciated.

Unless you're talking about a huge amount of data, I'd say the easiest and cleanest way to do this would be to delete all your channels in DIAdem and reload them from the (now larger) data file. Then all you have to do in REPORT is hit the "Refresh" icon.
It sounds like you are loading your data files into Excel-- does that mean that you have ASCII data files to start with? The best approach in that case would be to create a DataPlugin for the ASCII data file format and avoid the intermediate Excel step. Then re-loading the data would be as easy as hitting the "Delete Internal Data" icon in the NAVIGATOR and then dragging the ASCII data file from the NAVIGATOR tree view into the Data Portal at the right of DIAdem.
If you'll post or email me ([email protected]) several of your ASCII files, I should be able to send you back a DataPlugin you can use.

Best workaround for querying across multiple Data Sets?!

Hi folks
Today I was migrating my older OEID 3.0 applications to 3.1, and I noticed some of my older version views are not working anymore in new version.
We used to have multiple Bulk Add/Replace (without specifying Collection Keys) and we could use any attributes from any of these, in a certain View for example.
My views were like SELECT SUM("an attribute/metric from Bulk Add_1") / SUM("an attribute/metric from Bulk Add_2")
Now that you have to specify a FROM clause in your views, and it has to be from a certain Data Set, whats the best way to achieve above line goal?

Report Builder Wizard and Parameter Creation with values from other data source e.g. data set or views for non-IT users or Business Analysts

I wonder how a non-technical business analyst can use Report Builder 3 to create ad-hoc reports/analysis with list of parameters based on other data sets.
Do they need to learn TSQL or how to add and link parameter in Report Builder? then How they can add parameter into a report. Not sure what i am missing from whole idea behind Report builder then?
I have SQL Server 2012 STD and Report Builder 3.0 and want to train non-technical users to create reports as per their need without asking to IT department.
Everything seems simple and working except parameters with list of values e.g. Sales year List, Sales Month List, Gender etc. etc.
So how they can configure parameters based on Other data sets?
Workaround in my mind is to create a report with most of columns and add most frequent parameters based on other data sets and then non-technical user modify that report according to their needs but that way its still restricting users to
a set of defined reports?
I want functionality like "Excel Power view parameters" into report builder which is driven from source data and which is only available Excel 2013 onward which most of people don't have yet.
So how to use Report Builder. Any other thoughts or workaround or guide me the purpose of Report Builder, please let me know.

Multiple data sets: a common global dataset and per/report data sets

Is there a way to have a common dataset included in an actual report data set?
Case:
For one project I have about 70 different letters, each letter being a report in Bi Publisher, each one of them having its own dataset(s).
However all of these letters share a common standardized reference block (e.g. the user, his email address, his phone number, etc), this common reference block comes from a common dataset.
The layout of the reference block is done by including a sub-llayout (rtf-file).
The SQL query for getting the dataset of the reference block is always the same, and, for now, is included in each of the 70 reports.
Ths makes maintenance of this reference block very hard, because each of the 70 reports must be adapted when changes to the reference block/dataset are made.
Is there a better way to handle this? Can I include a shared dataset that I would define and maintain only once, in each single report definition?

The use of the subtemplate for the centrally managed layout, is ok.
However I would like to be able to do the same thing for the datasets in the reports:
one centrally managed data set (definition) for the common dataset, which is dynamic!, and in our case, a rather complex query
and
datasets defined on a per report basis
It would be nice if we could do a kind of 'include dataset from another report' when defining the datasets for a report.
Of course, this included dataset is executed within each individual report.
This possibility would make the maintenance of this one central query easier than when we have to maintain this query in each of the 70 reports over and over again.

OBIEE 11g BI Publisher; New Data Set Creation Error "Failed to load SQL"

I'm trying to create a new SQL data set (from a client machine). I use "query builder" to build the data set. But when I click "OK", it fires the error "Failed to load SQL".
But strangely, if connect to the OBIEE server's desktop and create the data set it works without any issues. I wonder this would be a firewall issue. If so what are the ports I should open.
It's a enterprise installation. And we have already open 9703, 9704, and 9706.
Has anyone came across such a situation?
