Dictionary Application

Hi, im pretty new to programming, but im finding it very interesting though hard to learn online.
Well, i need some help creating a dictionary app since there is no Danish-German dictionarys. And i mean ZERO.
I know it's a very simple app but i would like some help building it. How do you make a search function, and tie it to a text field in the program?

Do you mean, that if I have the "Dictionary text" that i should send it to you? If so, i wish i had, but unfortunately it seems rather difficult to get my hands on..
I would appreciate if anyone would take their time to look at my app so far, and maybe help me with the code part (Link at bottom of post). I actually don't have any code yet, but the interface part is done. I just need to make the search function work (tied to the text field) and make the buttons in the side so that when you push them, they will let you find the app and make the button function as a kind of link.

Addition plug-ins for Dictionary Application

Dear list members,
I do a lot of translating work on my Mac, and I noticed that in Tiger that there is this Dictionary Application which is quite useful. However, it is also very limited as it only contains English. Do the other localizations of Mac OS contain dictionaries for other languages ?
If so, can one download them ?
I noticed that the dictionaries are in the following folder:
/Library/Dictionaries
They are packages that contain several files, obviously indexes and content as well as some images.
Is there any documentation on how to create a dictionary plug-in ? Have third-party developers made dictionaries for this Application?
This is something that would be very useful for anyone who does any writing. For instance, I can look up words in Nisus Express without leaving the application. I would save hours paging through paper translation dictionaries and the various on-line dictionaries if this could be done in the same application.
Yes, I have tried Ultralingua, but it is not all that integrated in the OS, and what is worse is that there is no dictionary for Russian or Polish. If there was some kind of documentation for how to create these dictionaries I could piece together an opensource dictionary to put into this application.
Perhaps some of you have other ideas ?

where can i download the original simplified english chinese dictionary application for my n82???...i formatted my memory card without making backup.. and i can't find this application in nokia website

Is it possible to add word or dictionaries to the Dictionary application?

I would like to add some frequently used words from an ancient Indian language to the Dictionary application so that typos could be automatically corrected. Is it possible to add words or complete dictionaries to the Dictionary application?

Hi philfromcolumbia,
When the spell checker picks up the word as a mis-spelling and underlines it in red, Ctrl-Click it and select Learn Spelling.
You can also add complete dictionaries, but I'm not sure how they are created.

Dictionary Application Text Scrambled

Greetings!
It seems I somehow scrambled the text in the Dictionary application and Dashboard widget. It doesn't appear to be another language, just english characters all mixed up. It seems to be some kind of font problem. How can I find out what font the Dictionary uses so I can delete/replace it? What font caches should I try clearing? Any other ideas?

Make sure you don't have any PostScript Type 1 versions of Baskerville active that will conflict with the /Library/Fonts/Baskerville.dfont, which is installed with OS X by default.

Dictionary application from PDA to iPAD

I have an iTouch 2nd generation and an iPad first generation and I was wondering if it was possible in any way transfer an unabridged dictionary that I have from a HP PDA to the iPad or the iTouch. This app costed me originally about $60 and I would like not to pay for it again if possible. Any ideas? The application is from Paragon Software. Thanks for any input!!

Thanks I will check if Paragon has something of that sort! Sitll on the subject of dictionary, I just updated my kidle app to the new version and my Oxford Dictionary disappeared! Any idea on this? Also it used to be possible to directly connect to the Kidle Store from the Kindle app but not anymore! These were two things very useful so I have no idea it has been changed. Any input on this?

Dictionary application missing and unable to reinstall it

I´ve used the Dictionary app. off and on in the past and it worked fine. Recently, it stopped working and then disappeared altogether. The Thesaurus-Dictionary widget worked until I started trying to recoup the Dictionary.app and that's now been lost too. Every attempt at reinstalling has failed. The system tells me it's been installed, the Oxford package makes it to the Receipt section but there's no Dictionary.app entry anywhere to be found. I verified the disk and permissions and everything there's OK. Any suggestions?

I decided to finish off what I started... I'd forgotten I'd posted the question and as I was very much in need of the dictionary I ended up schlepping my Mac to the Apple Store to see if they could fix it. They had to do something which they wouldn't explain to me to get it back into the system. It didn't seem like a simple task as they got some other equipment from the storage room to do it.

any sugestions for a free/paid dictionary or wiki app for the iPod Touch?
will you still need wi-fi in order to use a dictionary or no need?

Try having a look at the App Store:Dictionaries.
Most of the wiki apps will need a WiFi connection due to the nature of the content they are searching.

Since the iPhone 3G will only run iOS up to 4.2.1, if these apps require a higher iOS level, there is nothing that you can do.
There should be some dictionary apps in the App store that will run on iOS 4.2.1.
