Difference between DOWNLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD

hi
let me know the difference between DOWNLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD  and    giv me clear  idea  of wat  and wat not should be done with respect to  conversion  from download to gui_Download??????
give me clear process of  putting my download  data  into my  own defined file name ..  during   manual   and    backgrnd job. process..
thanks inadvance

Hi Shaik,
DOWNLOAD function module is obsolete now and DOWNLOAD as well as WS_DOWNLOAD should be replaced by GUI_DOWNLOAD function module.
The only matter you need to be careful off is mapping the parameters correctly.
Also, you have asked "during manual and backgrnd job. process.. " , well GUI_DOWNLOAD or any download module for downloading to Presentation server CANNOT be used in the background.
Because background work processes are run on application server level and do not have access to the desktop of any PS.
For downloading to the presentation server essentially, pass the contents of internal table to DATA_TAB tables parameter and pass the presentation server file name to FILENAME importing parameter.
Cheers,
Aditya

  • Data rate when creating Quicktime h.264: difference between download and streaming ?

I've got a question on data rate setting when creating a quicktime movie with h.264 codec:
In the Compression settings dialog I can restrict the data rate to a certain value (e.g. in my case I use 20.000 kbit/s for creating a HD1080i movie).
There is an additional drop box "Optimized for" where I can select between "download", "streaming" and some other value.
Is anybody aware of the exact meaning of these settings ? My impression is, that using "download" I set the average bit-rate, allowing much higher bit-rates in peaks, while "streaming" sets a maximum bit-rate. Is that correct ? or are any other parameters affected by this setting ?
I now discovered, that the output file when using "streaming" with restriction of 20.000 kbit/s leads to a file with average bitrate of only approx 17.000 kbit/s (while it's more or less exactly 20.000 when using the "download" setting). Does that mean, that the overall quality of my output file would be worse ? or would only peak rates be affected (e.g. scenes with a lot of movement) and the overall quality remains the same ?
Happy to learn if anyone has any experiences / best practices on this topic.

Restrict isn't, it seems, a hard limit. When I specify 18Mbps it seems to run up to 21Mbps. But, that's fine since it's certainly isn't excessive and if I really cared I could set it at 15Mbps.
I suspect it might be more accurate with 2-pass. Also, i never ever use the Apple codec. i use x264 which allows more encoding tools. And, even it is not a super good H.264 encoder.
Using rates under 2400Mbps is IMHO asking for the near impossible for good quality SD video.

  • What is the difference between SWF and F4V in the context of Streaming or progressive Download?

    Hello everybody,
I am absolutely a beginner in working with Captivate and furthermore my technological know how is not that good.
So, I have problems to understand if the export formats SWF and F4V are both capable to be published in the Internet as streaming video and as progressive Download? Well so, I do not really understand the difference between streaming and progessive download either?
Furthermore I was asking myself if this issue depends on how I imported flash videos (there are these two options) in my Captivate project during the production phase?
I would be very thankful for some helping information!
    Greetings,
    Mareike the beginner

    Welcome to our community
I'm not certain I fully understand the differences myself, but will toss out what I believe to be true about the formats. Hopefully, if I'm incorrect in my bellief, someone with more definitive knowledge will chime in.
It was explained to me a couple of years back and is my understanding that "streaming" only applies to a video based format such as F4V, FLV and it doesn't apply to SWF. With SWF, you may specify a preload value. So when the SWF transmits from the web server to the PC, a certain percentage has to be received before play begins. But that's not streaming. It's preloading.
For streaming to occur, the web server establishes a communication channel between the server and the destination PC. This channel is monitored to see what speed is in use. Only enough information is then transmitted to be comfortable at that speed. If the speed improves during the connection, the server serves data at a faster rate. If the connection degrades, the information transmitted is also scaled back so as to accommodate the lower speed.
With SWF, after it has all been downloaded, a savvy user is able to poke around in their temporary internet files and save the SWF for play later. With streaming, this isn't possible because as the stream is viewed, it evaporates from memory.
Seriously hoping others will chime in here to confirm or deny this.
    Cheers... Rick

  • What is the difference  between ws_upload and gui_upload

what is the difference  between ws_upload and gui_upload
what is the difference  between ws_download and gui_down load
    pls tell  briefly

    Hi Kuamr,
UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD, the function modules used until now are not part of the standard set of ABAP commands. They are used to display the file interface on the presentation server. UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD are not compatible with USs and have been replaced by GUI_UPLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD.
The new function modules, GUI_UPLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD, have an interface that also allows you to write Unicode format to the local hard drive. For a description of these interfaces, refer to the documentation for each function module, available under SAP Easy Access " Development " Function Builder " Goto " Documentation.
Instead of using the function modules, you can use the static methods GUI_UPLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD of the global class CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES.
    Hope this resolves your query.
    Reward all the helpful answers.

What is the programming(ABAP) difference between Unicode and non Unicode?
Edited by: NIV on Apr 12, 2010 1:29 PM

    Hi
The difference between programming in Unicode or not Unicode is that you should consider some adjustments to make on the Program "Z" to comply with the judgments Unicode Standard.
In the past, developments in SAP using multiple systems to encode the characters of different alphabets. For example: ASCII, EBCDI, or double-byte code pages.
These coding systems mostly use 1 byte per character, which can encode up to 256 characters. However, other alphabets such as Japanese or Chinese use a larger number of characters in their alphabets. That's why the system using double-byte code page, which uses 2 bytes per character.
In order to unify the different alphabets, it was decided to implement a single coding system that uses 2 bytes per character regardless of what language is concerned. That system is called Unicode.
Unicode is also the official way to implement ISO/IEC 10646 and is supported in many operating systems and all modern browsers.
The way of verifying whether a program was adjusted or not, is through the execution of the UCCHECK transaction. Additionally, you can check by controlling syntax (making sure that this asset verification check Unicode).
The main decisions to adjust / replace are (examples):
ASSIGN H-SY-INDEX TEXT TO ASSIGN <F1> by

  • What is the difference between apps and applications?

I have an application that I've been running on my older Mac. Now that I have a new MacBook Pro, I have to reinstall new software that is compatible. When I go to the vendor website I see an application I can download or a link to the Mac App Store. Is an application different than an app? When should you download them from a vendor website and when should you go to the app store? Do apps end up in the Launchpad and an application in your Applications folder? I can't seem to find information on what is the distinction. Are they actually two different things? Any help would be appreciated.

No difference between apps and applications. If you download the app from the Apple AppsStore you have better security and a conveninet place to have all your downloads. Nothing wrong with downloading from a trusted developer though.
EDIT: Yes they will either wind up in your Download folder as  a .dmg you will have to double-click on to install, or most app store apps will install to your Applications folder.

  • What is the difference between PUSH and FETCH

I am a little confused. I use my iphone for both my personal POP email accounts and my business exchange account. I am trying to save as much battery as I can so I turned off push and set everything to manual...but now when I try and get may mail....it either says "connecting" or "checking for new mail" at the bottom of the screen and nothing happens from there.
What is the best way to setup this situation for the most battery life? I don't need it to automatically download emails just when I open the email accout would be nice.
I also noticed that when I delete an email from my iphone on my exchange account, it also deletes is on my desktop at work...I need to turn this off...is it possible?

    Hi maxum25,
The difference between push and fetch is that:
When using push, the server sends a signal to the iphone and lets it know that an email is coming its direction. Kind of like receiving a call. The iphone does not need to do anything except receive the email.
When using fetch, the iphone has to wake up every so often and send a request to the server to see if there is any new email waiting for it on the server to download. This takes more time because the iphone sends a request, the server says yes there is some, the iphone says ok give me the new email.
Now the exchange email uses active sync to keep all changes on the exchange server and mobile device in sync. This is automatic and is the nature of exchange and active sync. In order to keep this from happening you would need to talk to your IT dept. and see if they have an imap or pop alternative. Even using imap reflects the changes back to the server.
    Hope this helps.

  • Office 2013 installed with KB2817430, windowsupdate still finds KB2850036. difference between KB2817430 and KB2850036

    Hi,
I've made a silent Office 2013 installer with /admin and put SP1 MSP's in the updates folder.
After deployment under installed updates it shows: Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB2817430) 32-Bit Edition
But when I check for new updates, "ServicePack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB2850036) 32-Bit Edition" is ready for download and install.
What is the difference between KB2817430 and KB2850036?
It seems that I cannot download KB2850036 and also integrate it in the silent installation.
Another question: Is the updates folder from Office only for servicepacks? or can I put also updates and patches MSP files in here? If yes then i've got a lot of files with the same name and different files sizes. For example After extracting SP1 I've got
the file "proofsp-en-us.msp" which is 10MB and when extracting another patch also i've got a proof-en-us.msp and is 8MB.
So which one need to go in the updates folder?
    Can anyone help me out?
    thanks

    Hi,
As can be seen from below KB articles, KB2817430 only contains Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Office 2013, whereas KB2850036 also contains Service Pack 1 (SP1) updates for other Office 2013 related desktop products. For example, Microsoft Office 2013
Language Pack, Project 2013, SharePoint Designer 2013, Office Proofing Tools 2013, etc.:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2850036
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2817430
So if you have any of these products on your computer, Windows Update might offer related updates to you.
Regarding the Updates folder issue, you can put any Office software updates in it during the initial installation, such as service packs or hotfixes. A newer patch might make changes to a specific file, you can check the version number of that file, and keep
the newer one in the folder.
Here is the reference you will need:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2011/05/05/using-the-updates-folder-to-deploy-software-updates-with-an-office-2010-installation.aspx
(Note, it was created against Office 2010, however the steps should hold good for Office 2013)

  • Differences between trigger and Integrity Constraints

waht are the differences between trigger and Integrity Constraints

waht are the differences between trigger and Integrity ConstraintsConstraints are to be preferred:
    "Declarative Ease
Define integrity constraints using SQL statements. When you define or alter a table, no additional programming is required. The SQL statements are easy to write and eliminate programming errors. Oracle controls their functionality. For these reasons, declarative integrity constraints are preferable to application code and database triggers. The declarative approach is also better than using stored procedures, because the stored procedure solution to data integrity controls data access, but integrity constraints do not eliminate the flexibility of ad hoc data access.
    Centralized Rules
Integrity constraints are defined for tables (not an application) and are stored in the data dictionary. Any data entered by any application must adhere to the same integrity constraints associated with the table. By moving business rules from application code to centralized integrity constraints, the tables of a database are guaranteed to contain valid data, no matter which database application manipulates the information. Stored procedures cannot provide the same advantage of centralized rules stored with a table. Database triggers can provide this benefit, but the complexity of implementation is far greater than the declarative approach used for integrity constraints."
