Difference between foreground and background excel outputs

I am running an ABAP report and from the output generated I am saving it as an excel file . Navigating from the toolbar as : Utilities->List -> Save as local file -> Spreadsheet.
If I am running the report in background then the spool gets generated. If I display the spool and save it as Excel following the same path Utilities->List -> Save as spreadsheet it gets saved in an Excel.
The problem is the two outputs (in Excel) are not matching in format. One which is generated from foreground gets saved with lot of blank columns while the one generated from the spool gets cranked for space.
How can I have the excel generated from background (from the spool) have exactly the same format to that created in the foreground run?

Hi
Foreground
1. you run directly the transaction VL04.
2. The performance can be bad.
3. The user is always the user id of the person.
4. The deliveries always will be pulled according to user setup (tcode SU3) time zone, languange etc.
5. foreground may give you option of creating deliveries individual, collective processing etc.
Background
1. You setup a job using the tcode VL04 using SM36 and monitor using SM37
2. Performance is good.
3. THe user can be changed according to the country, time zone by creating and using new batch users.
4. The deliveries are created individually but they are created a part of one collective processing document.
5. Deliveries are pulled according to the batch users eventhough you have setup the job.
Hope this wil help you to give 5 differences.
Kind Regards
Sandeep

  • Exchange Messages Between Foreground and Background Tasks

I'm working on an Application where I use background task for handling Bluetooth communication. For that, I'm trying to exchange messages between foreground and background tasks when the Bluetooth device sends
something and want to notify the foreground about it. Similarly, I want the foreground to send messages to background when the user activates something. I've started doing that using event handlers but it is not reliably working. Looks like the problem is
coming from the synchronization between these two tasks. I found the class BackgroundMediaPlayer which does what I really want , except controlling the media player. What are the options of doings that?

    Hi Rob,
Thank you for your reply. So in this case, I guess each process shall keep reading the file and see if there are commands to be processed. Is there a way to raise an event when the content of the file get changed? Are there existing file handling classes
    that support this?

  • How do I change the contrast between foreground and background in CS4 workspace menus?

Everyone at my agency who has upgraded from CS3 to CS4 is dismayed to discover that they can not read any tabs on the workspace except the highlighted one. The foreground and background colors are simply too close together for anyone who doesn't have very good eyesight to use 8 hours a day, and if you have any form of color blindness, just forget it. Is there any way to change the foreground and background colors in the workspace itself?

I don't believe it's possible.  It would be like altering the ribbon in Office 2007 to make it work like Office 2003. This is a built-in function and from the upcoming betas in the Labs it appears they are going to continue this trend.  Only thing I can really suggest you do is submit a feature request: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform .  Outside of that there is not much you can do.
One other thing has come to mind but it only works for the document area and not other menus.  Instead of opening documents in the tabs in one window you can click on Window at the top and choose Cascade to view each file in its own window and go back to Expose for fast-switching between windows.

  • Difference between Dialog and Background User

    Dear Sap Gurus,
What is the difference between a Dialog user and a Background user. I have asked a specific role to be assigned to Auditors, but the consultants have said that they cannot grant that role because it will give access  to very sensitive data. They in turn suggested that they will create a background user with that role.
what is the  difference between a dialog user and a backgroud user and how it relates to sensitivity of data ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Diwakar

Dialog user type is your "typical" user type for people who log in to SAP & use it in their day to day work.
Background user is used to schedule batch & background jobs and basically run stuff in the background (hence the name).  The most important thing to know is that you cannot login with a Background user which renders the recommendation of your consultant rather irrelevant and given the required use of it, a demonstration that they may not quite know as much as they profess to do.
Each user type can only do what is defined by it's roles (in most cases).  If a role assigned to a dialog user gives access to very sensitive data then it will give the same access to a background user and this is not too hard to exploit.
Furthermore, it is usually expected for auditors to have access to sensitive data (depending on what they are auditing) however they should only be displaying this data.  They need no change access, and should not be requesting it, a wide access display role covering functional & technical display roles & access to display table data should suffice for 99% of audits.  If someone suggests that this access can only be assigned to a background role then I am surprised unless there are some very specific circumstances.

  • Difference in Foreground and Background processing of an object

we have implemented SAP ECC 6 on May 6th, 2008.
We are facing an issue in a BDC order creation program when run in background.
But when the same program is executed in foreground it works fine.
In issue is one of the customized condition ZFML is not getting calculated at all.
This customized condition gets determined in an user exit MV45AFZZ in FORM USEREXIT_FIELD_MODIFICATION.
Value gets calculated correctely for the conditon ZFML while executed the program in foreground but it fails in background.
The obove exit is being processed when I'm executing a BDC for creating Sales Order through the text file from application server for multiple line item. This needs to be executed every one hour through background only
When I run the BDC in foreground, It is properly executed, but in the background it is not for one particular pricing condition, which is a customized pricing for freight to determine whether for all entire order or for the each line item. System does correctly for the entire order, but not for each line item.
Is it possible that the userexit is not getting triggered in Background.
I had never encountered such situations before. I'm not able to predict this peculiar behaviour of BDC.
    Any solution.

  • No difference between High and Normal output sharpening

I was going to post a topic about how small is difference between screen output sharpening settings, when some tests revealed that in fact the difference is nil.
b Can anyone see any difference between Normal and High screen sharpening in applied at export?
I even stacked the two versions in Photoshop with the Difference blending mode on and a Levels adjustment layer amplifying the difference, and even the histogram was showing that I'be got big plain black rectangle.
Sharpening for paper seems to work fine.
    Lightroom 2.3 Windows.

Just took the time to test this on my 'calibration' image and there is indeed no difference in Standard and High sharpening for screen.
Same result with and without resizing image; with and without jpeg compression; with both tif and jpeg files.
    Lr 2.3 on XP.

  • Difference between wc27 and md01 transactions?

    Hi Experts,
Could you please tell me what is the difference between wc27 and md01 transactions?
    Best Regards,
    Parag Save.

MD01 is the transaction for running the MRP in the foreground (online).  WC27 is for running the MRP in the background (batch), but you can also do via MDBT.  In MDBT when you create or edit total planning variant you are running the same program as WC27.  Typically you use just MDBT if you want to create MRP batch jobs.

Can we use simultaneously both MIRO and MIRA for postings?
    Please explain

    Hi
MIRO is online invoice posting, which means you can simulate and check the value and post online (in other words Foreground )
MIRA is posting happens in background, you will enter the details and the posting take place in back ground.
You can run both transaction simultaneously for different PO's and not for the same.
Please let me know if have any clarification

  • Difference between paste and add to movie

What's the difference between paste and add to movie?

So more than one track can exist in the same location. A very confusing (to me) editing process.
Yes, the MOV file con contain up to 99 tracks of data. For instance, if two or more video tracks coexist over the same time interval, they may be layered, masked and/or blended for various effects such as a framed movie, a movie-in-a-movie, movies with grapic logos, movies with watermarks, etc. In a similar manner, multiple audio tracks can be blended together. (E.g., a narration can be added over background music to a base move that already has its own audio track.)
Here is an a example of a "mulitple" track MOV file created from many a background/Xmas card foreground image and many scaled PNG photo images of family members:

NOTE: Plays in QT 7 Player app or a browser but not the QT X Player.

  • Difference between VL10 and JITK

    Hello,
How to explain to a user difference between VL10 and JITK ?
    Thanks.
    Romeo

    Dear Romeo,
As my friend said n even u'll b aware of: VL10 is a T-code using which u can create a delivery in foreground giving the details like sales order, shipping point & delivery date as the selection. Thus it's used 4 normal del creation.
Whereas JITK is a TCode for "Summarized JIT Calls Due for Delivery" which is one fo the SAP best prcatices for Automotive only. The other point of diff is that u can create deliveries in the background only using JITK. It is not possible to process summarized JIT calls online. JIT calls as u know r there in the shcelduing agreement along with the forecast tab thus giving the xact 1,2 weeks requirement from d customer.
    Hope it'll b enuf 2 convince d user.

  • Difference between TCD and SAPGUI

    Hi all,
What are the differences between TCD and SAPGUI in ecatt?
And also which one is better? Should I used tcd mode of ecatt for any transaction? Or there is any limitations for the same. same for SAPGUI?

    Hello Lalit,
TCD & SAPGUI modes have their own advantages & disadvantages. So their usage depends on their requirement in the recording.
Some of the differences between TCD & SAPGUI are as follows -
    1. TCD recording mode can run in background as well as foreground.
    - SAPGUI recording mode requires GUI playback. But it can run with or without user intervention.
    2. TCD is fastest mode of recording as well as replay.
    -SAPGUI is very slow.
    3. TCD cannot be used for ENJOY transactions (those who have activex controls) where the usage of activex controls is mandatory. It is suitable for simpler transactions where directly values and be placed and results can be seen.
-SAPGUI work with ENJOY transactions. It should be selected only when the usage of the controls is mandatory.
You will conclude more about the TCD & SAPGUI usage gradually as you will work with transaction in eCATT.
More details can be found from the following weblogs -

  • Whats the difference between EPMA and Essbase Studio

Aren't they both used for designing applications?
And do one really need Essbase Studio?

Whats the difference between EPMA and Essbase Studio ^^^It is a bit confusing, isn't it? As far as I understand EPMA's role, it's a way to share common dimensions and data across multiple Oracle EPM products including Essbase, Planning, and HFM. I actually don't know if other products live in EPMA. What EPMA does not have is a nice way of sourcing or manipulating dimension and fact tables (or even files). Oh, there are interface tables, but you will write code/use the EPMA dimension utility to load dimensions. I have to say I've never tried to load data through EPMA so someone else is going to have to comment on that. Once dimensions are built, you can deploy Essbase (and other products) from common and database-specific dimensions.
Studio is the tool you would use to go against a data warehouse, or something awfully close to a data warehouse to build Essbase databases. It's for Essbase only -- Planning, HFM, etc. are not the targets of Studio's output.
What gets confusing/intriguing is that when EPMA deploys Essbase apps, it uses Studio under the covers to do so. Thus the interesting implementations where people use Studio (which is way more flexible than EPMA because it is a development tool as opposed to a dimension/data management app) to read the EPMA interface tables (and for all I know, the base EPMA tables) and build Essbase apps that way.
If you think there is overlap, I would agree with you, but you can see they really aren't the same.
And do one really need Essbase Studio?^^^You don't have to use Studio to build Essbase databases. You can go hog-wild in EAS with SQL load rules if you want, although at some point it probably will be easier/more straightforward to build it in Studio. Although Studio has been mentioned as the replacement for EAS for some time, I suspect the effort required to build a database in Studio will keep EAS around for quite a while or Studio Lite will have to come out. There's a lot to be said (sometimes) for the amazing flexibility EAS/Essbase have -- Studio requires a more methodical approach and EPMA has a very formal set of standards and methods.
Whew, I'm sorry, I wrote a book about this and I'll bet you get a bunch of differing opinions on this.
If you're interested in Studio, you might do well to pick up a copy of Glenn Schwartzberg's "Look Smarter Than You Are with Oracle Essbase Studio 11". I receive not a penny from its sale although I was one of the copy editors (hey, I got a mention in the acknowledgements). It's a good book and an excellent introduction to the tool.

  • Difference between continue and Exit ........?

Difference between continue and Exit ........

See a small example CONTINUE below with some notes:-
When Nothing to Do, CONTINUE: - In Oracle Database 11g PL/SQL has a new construct called CONTINUE, which is used in a loop. The statement moves the logic to the end of the loop and then to the beginning of the loop.
    Eg:
    begin
            for ctr in 1..100 loop
                    continue when mod(ctr,10) != 0;
                    dbms_output.put_line ('ctr='||ctr);
Continue Skip the executions of statements after this clause Like for numbers, those are not a multiple of 10. And comes to end loop then to start of loop
            end loop;
    end;
    Here is the output:
    ctr=10
    ctr=20
    ctr=30
... and so on ...EXIT take you out of LOOP from current iteration and that will be last iteration.
    Thanks!

  • ABST2 - Differences between Assets and G/L accts

    Hi Experts
We are working on ECC 6.0 and INR is our local currency.
At the end of FY 2007 by mistake direct postings were made to Dep Fund Account which is a Recon a/c and FY 2007 was closed
And because of which FI-GL and FI-AA doesnt match by INR 37353.71 (amt posted in above doc) as shown in ABST2
I've referred SAP notes 104567 & 69225 and found the note 69225 relevant to follow as the difference has not resulted in the current or open years.
So we have passed direct entry which is exactly the reversal of entry posted above using ABF1 (INR -37353.71)
After posting the 2nd document, in ABST2 another line has appeared of INR -37353.71. Although the sum for my recon GL is now zero.
The output of ABST2 is as below now -
Sc  Acct no.   BusA  Year  SG  1st local difference  LCurr  Doc.no.    Period
    AS  31100                2009               37,353.71-        INR     W004
    AS  31100                2009               37,353.71         INR     W004       999
When I come out of ABST2 , addition to 1st, error no 2 is also coming which I thought would disappear.
1.Differences between assets and G/L accts in the balance carried forward
         Message no. MQ555
2.Differences between assets and G/L accounts at the key date
         Message no. MQ557
Is still something else needs to be done?
Or can I move ahead as the summation of the difference is now zero?
    Please suggest.
    Kapil

We referred to SAP and they suggeted that the tagging of W004 in both the lines means that now there is no error even system prompts it as error.
So we continued with the transactions and after closing the FY 2009, today when we run ABST2, we dont get any error messages as there is no difference left between Assets & GL.
