Difference between save and publish on project professional 2013

Dear Barbara
What's difference between save and/or publish tasks from project professional 2013 onto project server 2013 integrated with TFS?
For me its the same, if you exclude the integration with TFS in this scenario, that demands publishing, the tasks will be saved in project server anyway.
Its that right? Thank you.
Adauto

hi Adauto,
As a project owner when you create project plan from PWA or from Project Professional Once you save it means it will go to draft database and will be available to you in the server but you can not see it onto Project center.
Once you Click on Publish then  project get publish and sits in publish database at the same time it will sync reporting database too. Once project get Publish then only all the team member who are associated with project will be able to see the project
in project center including you .
Also Users who are having either same RBS assigned to them or heigher to you will be able to see the project onto the project center.
Also All the resource will get notified and task assignment will be assigned to team members.
This is a same case for Project server with TFS integration and normal project server without TFS integration
Main Usability of Save is :
As a Project owner when you start Project scheduling you take time to finish it so everyday you can save it so that next day you can resume your work but in the middle of the scheduling work you wont want to show the data to your organization until- unless
you give it final touch .Once you complete it then only publish it so that it would be available to team members.

  • Difference between resolution and publishing preset

    Hi there
I'm not sure about the difference between "resolution" and "preset"?
If I made one project with a resolution of 1024 x 672 and another in 1024 x 576, and they were both published them under the 'YouTube widescreen HD' preset, would there be a difference?

  • What's the difference between Export and Publish to Disk?

    Hi folks,
I am wondering what's the difference betewwen "Export" and "Publish" to the local Disk?
    Greetings from Germany
    JK

Export is a one-way process, no connection back to the original images.
Publish creates a connection that allows you to see what images have changed (in LR) since they were first published. Very useful for on-going projects such as images for a book that you may still be editing.

  • PE2 - What's the difference between "cut" and "clear" in Project Assets?

When removing items from the Project Assets area, what's the difference between "cut" and "clear"?
Also I believe "delete" is an option at times, but I couldn't replicate it.

Cut should Delete, but transfer that Clip to the Clipboard, where Clear will just Delete it completely - no transfer to Clipboard.
That can be tested by doing a Cut, then move the CTI (Current Timeline Indicator) to the end of the Timeline, and hit Ctrl+V (Paste). That Deleted Clip should appear after the CTI.
Then, clear (or choose a different Clip) the Clipboard, and try Clear. It should not Paste the Clip into the Timeline.
    Good luck,

  • Actual work difference between Reporting and Published (2013)

    Hello!
I'm currently battling with MS Project Server 2013 to understand a difference we observe in actual work.
    here is the scenario...
User submits 6 hours for a task on Dec 18
Task is accepted and updated in the plan - we can observe this in resource usage view.
    Plan is then published.
We observe that our reports show 2 hours instead of 6 for this task assignment
Recheck the plan and the hours are still showing as 6 in the timephased view.
When we look in SQL we find that the Pub tables show 6 hours but the Reporting tables show 2 hours!!!!
How can this be if the Reporting schema should mirror the data in the Pub schema??
We have SP1 + Oct CU
    Any advice welcome!
    Thanks,
    Shane

    Shane,
Before we go into the deep end of troubleshooting, have you tried republishing the project, to see if that resyncs the project data correctly?

  • Difference between SAVE and STORE TEMPORARILY in WWP1

    Hi All,
I'm using WWP1 in release SAP ECC6.0 to save a newly created purchase order.
Can anybody show me the differences between the Save (CtrlS) and the Store Temporarily (ShiftCtrl+0) button?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Antonio

    Bill,
The software is a custom, proprietary program.  To me it is immaterial as to
what the program is doing and has everything to do with how AA9 saves the
file.  If I open a file called AA.pdf, make changes and hit "Save", that
file is still named AA.pdf and it works in my program.  If I use Windows
Explorer to rename the file to AB.pdf, that file still works in my program.
However, if I open AA.pdf, make changes and do a "Save As" AB.pdf, the file
no longer works in my program.  It has nothing to do with what I name the
file, it has all to do with how I save the file in AA9.
    Regards,
    John Elliott

  • What's the difference between generate and publish in RH8?

I am working on a merged project in RH 8. Can I use the generated files to distribute to users? Do I have to publish? What's the difference? Why do I have to publish. I'm doing Webhelp.
    Thanks.

The Publish feature is provided to help reduce network traffic in your environment.
That is, RH clears all files in the folder where you Generate on your local drive, whereas RH only Publishes what has changed between your local Generate folder and the server location you're publishing to.
That means less traffic than manually copying all the output files every time there are changes.
There's no difference since at least X5.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Size difference between recorded and published?

I'm launching a custom sized window using javascript for a
e-learning course that has a nav bar at the bottom (my own, not
captivate related - including next and back buttons that navigate
html pages). I'm recording my movies at 790x496. When the .swfs and
the html outputed by captivate 2 are published it is adding 24
pixels at the bottom. I'm using a captivate controller but it is at
the top. If I try and manually go change the html back to my custom
height the swf displays messed up. Anybody know how to get these 24
pixels from being reserved/displayed at the bottom by the swf's?
Just seems wierd to offer the ability to record at a custom
size but then it automatically adds 24 pixels to the height.

Hi theconfusedone and welcome to our community
Hopefully I can help un-confuse you.
Okay, click Project > Skin... > Borders tab. Note that
the bottom border is the one selected. Further note the "Width"
value. These are normally configured with the bottom border enabled
so that the playback control doesn't cover any part of your
project. So DE-select the bottom border and RE-select the top. This
should allow space for your playback control and allow it to
    operate as you want.
Keep in mind that this also creates an additional .SWF that
will need to be included in your output. If you want no additional
.SWF, you may DE-select the "Show borders" check box to force it
all to be stored in a single .SWF.
    Cheers... Rick

  • No difference between "save" and "save as" ?

    Hello,
I use for first time Pages and i have a question (i did a search in the forum)
when i work in pages and open a new document then hit command+s the "save as" window pop up. That's ok, but after i work several minutes and then hit command+s Pages again ask me to "save as" document.
Is there a function like in word "ctrl+s" - and document i save without asking where to be saved?
For me it is very annoying to "save as" the document every time - in 2-3 minutes.
I check the User guide - pages 36 to 39 but did not find the answer.

Question asked and responded several times.

  • Difference between iweb and published site

i have just moved my site over from the previous iweb to 08 and am excited about new features etc, but struggling when i publish to a folder. site looks great in iweb - just as i want it etc, but when i then go to safari to view it through the web browser it looks different. objects are being moved somehow in the publishing process so things don't align any more, and some of the text is being moved across the page, so isn't aligning with itself any more.
puzzled, and unable to find any precdent on this forum. please help!

    Hi,
I just have the same problem!
Most of my site looks ok, in FireFox and Safari.
BUT, one page looks fine in iWeb and also in the Folder locally on the disk.
But in the published form, styles are mixed / colours different etc.
    Pretty confused.
And I do not know why and how I could solve this.
    Any ideas?

  • Is there a difference between libraries and document folders in Sharepoint 2013?

I am new to Sharepoint and trying to decide if I should use "documents" folders or "library" folders. As far as I can tell, there is no difference. Am I missing something?

    Hi,
Use Document library if you need to hold all your documents. and you can create folder inside library also.

  • Takes time to Save and publish

    Project server 2010 + SQL server 2005 sp3
When the users make the required changes and when they try to save and publish it takes them around 15 seconds to complete.
What would cause that to happen, and how can one improve the performance?
    Satyam.

Let's try to look at it in a different way! When you save and publish a project there will be a series of job which will be triggered in the queue like Project Save from Project Professional, Project Publish, Reporting Project Publish etc.
Please let us know which among this is taking time.
[Please note some of the jobs gets pushed into the queue at the same time so I would suggest that you monitor the queue as soon as the save and publish is triggered and track the time taken for the jobs to complete]
Below I have also listed some of the recommended DB maintenance queries
    1. Check size of Shadow Tables : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598007
      i. Run the below query on both the Draft and Published databases
    select count(*) from MSP_TASK_CUSTOM_FIELD_VALUES_SHADOW
    select count(*) from MSP_ASSN_CUSTOM_FIELD_VALUES_SHADOW
    select count(*) from MSP_PROJ_RES_CUSTOM_FIELD_VALUES_SHADOW
    select count(*) from MSP_PROJ_CUSTOM_FIELD_VALUES_SHADOW
    select count(*) from MSP_PROJ_CUSTOM_FIELD_VALUES_SHADOW
ii. Run the below query on Published database only
    select count(*) from MSP_RES_CUSTOM_FIELD_VALUES_SHADOW
    2. Update Statistics: Updates query optimization statistics on a table or indexed view. By default, the query optimizer already updates statistics as necessary to improve the query plan; in some cases you can improve query performance by using UPDATE STATISTICS
or the stored procedure sp_updatestats to update statistics more frequently than the default updates (References: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187348.aspx, http://blogs.technet.com/b/projectadministration/archive/2009/12/04/sql-server-settings-for-performance-recommendations.aspx)
Run the below query on all the four Project databases
    sp_updatestats
    3. Defragment all the four Project Server databases by running the below query on each of the databases to help improve the performance(This mentions Project 2007 bus is applicable for Project 2010 as well): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943345
