Difference between struts , spring, JSF

Hi,
i want to know what is the main differecnes between struts and spring? on which context and on what basis? and which one is preferable to develop the projects.
and also what is the main defference between spring and JSF?
if anybody knows please help me?
thanks in advance
ram

Difference between struts and springs could be analysed from various facets.
(1) Purpose of each framework.
(2) Various feature offerings at framework level.
(3) The design & stuff.
Firstly, Struts is a sophisticated framework offering the easy 2 develop, structured view/presentation layer of the MVC applications. Advanced, robust and scalable view framework underpinning reuse and seperation of concerns to certain extent. Springs is a Lightweight Inversion of Control and Aspect Oriented Container Framework. Every work in the last sentence carry the true purpose of the Spring framework. It is just not a framework to integrate / plug in at the presentation layer. It is much more to that. It is adaptible and easy to run light weight applications, it provides a framework to integrate OR mapping, JDBC etc., Infact Struts can be used as the presentation tier in Spring.
Secondly, Springs features strictly associate with presentation stuff. It offers Tiles to bring in reuse at presentation level. It offers Modules allowing the application presentation to segregate into various modules giving more modularity there by allowing each module to have its own Custom/Default Request Processor. Spring provides Aspect Oriented programming, it also solves the seperation of concerns at a much bigger level. It allows the programmer to add the features (transactions, security, database connectivity components, logging components) etc., at the declaration level. Spring framework takes the responsibility of supplying the input parameters required for the method contracts at runtime reducing the coupling between various modules by a method called dependency injection / Inversion of Control.
Thirdly, Struts is developed with a Front Controller and dispatcher pattern. Where in all the requests go to the ActionServlet thereby routed to the module specific Request Processor which then loads the associated Form Beans, perform validations and then handovers the control to the appropriate Action class with the help of the action mapping specified in Struts-config.xml file. On the other hand, spring does not route the request in a specific way like this, rather it allows to you to design in your own way however in allowing to exploit the power of framework, it allows you to use the Aspect Oriented Programming and Inversion of Control in a great way with great deal of declarative programming with the XML. Commons framework can be integrated to leverage the validation in spring framework too. Morethan this, it provides all features like JDBC connectivity, OR Mapping etc., just to develop & run your applications on the top of this.

    Hai Vijay.
Struts is liek dosa and JSF is liek alooparantha.
okey? Now I'm not making fun of our brown friends here, but
can someone recast that explanation, using only items
that can be purchased at a Kentucky Fried Chicken, so
that I can understand it better?Brown friends? I prefer to think of myself as "melanin-enhanced" and others as "melanin-challenged." Nonetheless, Struts can be thought of a Kentucky Fried Chicken whereas JSF is one pound of fresh, boneless chicken and a bottle of barbeque sauce.
    How's that? ;-)

What is the difference between struts and spring framework
    Thanks in advance

Struts is nothing more than a web MVC framework.
    Spring is lots more.
Spring has its own web MVC frameworks for both servlets and portlets. I think the Struts web MVC design is inferior to Spring's.
It also has JDBC and ORM support, message driven POJOs, an IoC engine, aspects, and lots more.
Struts would be a minor subset of Spring.

  • What's the difference between jsp and jsf?

who can tell me what's the difference between jsp and jsf?
I'm puzzled when I found some of the technology in jsp is so similar to the ones in jsp( javaserver page)

    Hi,
Find the difference between JSP and JSF
    1. A developer has more control with JSP, but (should) get easier development with JSF
    2. Event handling is done differently in JSP (HTTP) and JSF (Java)
    3. The UI is designed differently (or should be at least) with JSP (markup) and JSF (components).
    4. The end product should also be defined differently - JSP page versus a JSF application.
Is this the only thing that is need to make a decision for either or? Probably not. There are other pieces that need to be taken in account when deciding which technology to use - tools support, enough components, type of application etc.... At this point there are not enough JSF components (although there are some interesting projects underway - Ajaxfaces, Myfaces, ADF Faces, and WebChart 3d) and enterprise tools support is still limited to a few tools vendor. Looking at our ADF Faces components they are currently available as early access (not production) and demands for these components are stacking up, literally, outside my office doorstep. Although I would love to make them production - now! - it is not a viable solution since we are still checking features and fixing critical bugs.
All this combined - not enough enterprise level components in production, lacking tools support etc... - leave customers in a vacuum where the decision is either to continue with JSP, since it is mature and has a wide developer base, or move forward with JSF not sure if the support, or the developers will be there. This is particularly sensitive to customers that need to get started now and be production by summer.
If you are in this vacuum here are some key points promoting JSF:
    1. Fundamental unit is the Component
    2. Built in event and state management
    3. Component sets can be provided by any vendor
    4. Closer to ASP.Net or Swing development
    5. Choice of UI technology
    6. Scale up (rich clients)
    7. Scale down (mobile devices)
    8. Built into J2EE containers in J2EE 5.0 (tentative)

  • Difference between JSTL and JSF

    Hi
I am little bit confuse between JSTL and JSF. can one tell me what is difference between JSTL and JSF ?
    Thanks & regards,
    Ben

    from suns site
The JavaServer Pages Standard Tag Library (JSTL) encapsulates as simple tags the core functionality common to many Web applications. JSTL has support for common, structural tasks such as iteration and conditionals, tags for manipulating XML documents, internationalization tags, and SQL tags.

  • Difference between JSP and JSF

What is the difference between JSP and JSF?
Is it necessary to learn JSP before starting with JSF?

JSP is a view technology providing a template to write plain HTML/CSS/JS in. JSP supports Java based taglibs to generate output and/or control the page flow dynamically. A well known example is JSTL. JSP also supports access to backend data with help of EL (Expression Language).
JSF is a component based MVC framework which provides taglibs for use in JSP, the JSF core tags in <f:xxx> and the JSF HTML tags in <h:xxx>. Those tags generate HTML output and are tied to JSF component tree in the server memory so that the FacesServlet can work on them to gather request parameters, validate/convert them, update the model values (javabean properties), invoke some actions (javabean action methods) and render the response.
You can use JSF on top of either JSP or Facelets. Facelets is another view technology. JSP is ancient and has its shortcomings when JSF comes into picture. Facelets is designed with JSF in mind and much more well-suited for it and provides great templating/composition capabilities to reuse specific groups of components without the need to wrap them in another custom component (so that you don't duplicate the same code over and over, e.g. label+input+message.

  • Difference between Sun RI JSF and MyFaces JSF

    Hi all,
I am using JBoss AS and have a JSF application. By default, JBoss bundle MyFaces JSF with Jboss. I have everything working fine with MyFaces. However, I encounter problem when I tried to display the banding for dataTable using Oracle ADF. From my research, it seems ADF table's banding does not work with MyFaces so I want to test out using Sun RI JSF with Jboss. I remove MyFaces jar files and put Sun RI jar file in WEB_INF/lib directory and remove the line in web.xml
    <listener>
    <listener-class>org.apache.myfaces.webapp.StartupServletContextListener</listener-class>
</listener>This is done following Jboss documentation. But when Tomcat starts up, it seems still look for org.apache.myfaces.webapp.StartupServletContextListener class and throw ClassNotFoundException (because I removed myfaces jars). Has anyone benn able switched to use Sun RI in JBoss AS version 4.0.5?
    Thanks a lot,
    LNgo

Probably I should have posted this message on the Java Server Faces forums. I will repost there but if someone happens to know the answer, please help.
    Thanks,
    Lngo

  • Moving from Struts to JSF

    Hello,
We have a struts based application running on OAS and are trying convert our projects to JSF. Using Jdeveloper 10.1.3.1, I have created a JSF JSP and
would like to call that from a struts based Data Action.
How do I go about doing this? Do I need to integrate the "Struts-Faces Integration Library". (http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/masterj2ee/j2ee_wk8.html)
    Thanks!

    Hi,
since there is no native integration between Struts and JSF, the integration library is needed. Note that the two are so different by design and functionality that I am not sure if this integration could be a recommended approach

  • Difference between JSF API and RI and EL API and EL RI?

Im just looking into using facelets and in the dependency list I see this:
    JavaServer Faces RI
The reference implementations of JSF 1.1 and JSF 1.2 are available for use with your
    application
    JavaServer Faces API
JSF 1.2 API that works with the new EL specification. (Optionally, MyFaces Core API
    could be used.)
EL API - The stand-alone EL utilized by both JSP and JSF.
EL RI - The reference implementation that is used by Facelets for handling EL.
This isnt a question about facelets but more about what the differences are between the JSF API and RI versions and likewise the EL versions.
Its much appreciated if anyone can explain this for me.

Oh, your topic title contradicts (difference between API and RI) with the actual question in the topicstart (difference between the versions).
If the topic title represents the actual question: the API is the application programming interface, which is just an abstract specification. The RI is the reference implementation, which is the vendor's (in this case Sun) own concrete implementation of the abstract specification. In fact everyone can build an own implementation of the API which might be or not be better than the RI.

  • Difference between JSF and JPF from WebLogic workshop

Hi i am new to JSF , currently i am working on JPF and i got a chance to work on JSF..
I feel that event drivent programming as same as JSF and In JPF.
Can any body explaine in detail difference between JSF and JPF
    Thanks in Advance

JSF is Sun's MVC framework for web applications.
I've never heard of JPF, so it might not be part of Sun.

  • Difference between jsf and jspx

    Hi
We can develop a adf page in either jsf or jspx. What is the difference between jsf and jspx?
which is more compatible in adf and why?

    Hi.
The main difference in the version of JSF you are running on. In JSF 1.2 and lower, you built JSP pages. The JSPX extension means it was a JSP page using XML markup. This was (and still is) the default option in JDeveloper 11gR1.
JSF pages, introduced in JSF 2.0, use another view declation language called « Facelets ». They are the default in JDeveloper 11gR2 and will be in 12c as well.
Both standards are compatible with ADF. If you are building a new application, JSF is the way to go as it will offer you more flexibility and represents the best option going forward.

  • Differences between Java Studio Creator and any other JSF IDE

    Hi Guys,
I found that JSF code created when we use Studio Creator is Rave
while as if we use Bea Workshop Studio/Any Other Eclipse IDE for JSF is MyFaces ( whatever it may be).
What are the differences between these two? which one is better ?
I get confused why there are two different framework of JSF?
And I dont think there is any other IDE who supports Rave other than Java Studio Creator?
    Thx.

Apologies for the late reply, but currently what exists generally for MyFaces integration with Creator is on this blog:

  • How is the processing speed while using struts, spring, and JSF framework

    Hi friends,
As per earlier technology like Servlets,I mean that there would have much more performance speed than other new technologies like JSP,struts, spring and hibernate framework.Because,in new technologies, flow of processings implicitly via MVC2 basis will probably much more time than older one.
Total goal is only for attaining MVC2 or any other purpose?
    Please clarify my doubt?
    With Regards,
    Stalin.G

Home grown applications have a problem in that as more and more features are added, it becomes increasingly impossible to maintain the application and enhance it. This is especially true when the original programmers leave the company. A framework provides a standard design approach that other programmers can hopefully more easily pick up.
A lot of work has gone into creating these frameworks and they have been used in web sites that have millions of hits from users per day. They have high preformance. Of course, programmers can still write bad code in them that slows down the system. I believe anyone using these frameworks should study them well before using them (such as reading books on them).
