Difference in speed between i5 and Core 2 Duo (same GHz)?

My two-year old MacBook Pro has a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB RAM.
The cheapest MacBook Pro introduced today has a 2.4GHz i5 processor with 4GB RAM.
Anyone have any idea what the speed difference might be between these two? Approximately?
And does software have to be re-written to take advantage of the i5? In other words: What do I stand to gain if upgrading today?

Read this page and it should answer your questions.

  • Will increasing the memory from 4Gb to 8Gb make a big difference to the speed of my Intel Core Duo 2 Mac mini?

    Will increasing the memory from 4Gb to 8Gb make a big difference to the speed of my Intel Core Duo 2 Mac mini?

    Well, technically no, CPU will remain the same speed. But having 8 gig will give you some room for memory hungry apps and run better with multiple apps.
    Adding a SSD drive will give a second life to your macmini. I did mine a few weeks ago (240 gb SSD ) and also went from 2 to 4 gig ram. It's like having a new computer!
    Good luck!

  • Shutter speed between 25 and 30 seconds

    HI! I have a 5D Mark iii and have been shooting the Milky Way. I would like to be able to set the camera to shutter speeds between 25 and 30 seconds...like for example 27 seconds. Is there a setting to change? On my camera, it jumps from 25 to 30 seconds and nothing in between. Thanks!

    An intervalometer will do it in bulb mode (you can dial in any amount of time you want).
    But I suspect 3 seconds really wont make much of a difference.... that's just a 1/10th of an exposure stop. Usually you wont notice much of a difference with merely a 1/10th stop difference.

  • Difference in value Between BW and R/3

    Hi,
    We are in the process of validating reports .We have observed difference in value for  credit and debit amount fields in BW and for the same data is coming from standard data source 0EN_JVA_2 (Joint venture: Actual line item using delta extraction) we have done full data load. In the data source the data coming from a single field and that is spited based on debit/credit indicator in R/3.
    I need your valuable input on where the problem is for the difference of value between BW and R/3.

    Hi,
    Is there any filterations in the IP?
    Any data packet deletion activity in the start rountine?
    Any update rule for the key figure is having routine with modifiying the value?
    Kindly check.
    In case if you are seeing number of records, always aggregation happens.
    If the difference is in terms of quantity of the key figure values, kindly check the above three.

  • Amount difference (0.01) between GL and profit center reporting

    Hi,
      After we run 1KEK for ARAP transfer to profit center there is amount difference (0.01) between GL and profit center reporting for customere reconciliation account. We checked F.5D and rerun 1KEK this issue still exit.
    Any idea for it? Thanks.

    hi Kyle,
    thanks for the effort, but it wasn't the thing i asked for ...
    what i would like to find out is:
    if CO area settings are set w/o profit centers, why the system still demands profit center assignment with cost center master data (ie.)
    well, i can always turn off the message, but this isn't the solution i want to use ...
    i will rather open one PC (along with dummy, of course) even though those are not used for the customer ... although, this will not solve statistical posting to cc with cost element category 11 ...

  • Is there any difference in quality between mp4 and m4v?

    Is there any difference in quality between mp4 and m4v? I am figuring out how best to save old VCR files. Is the 264 category the best?

    So, what would that software be? Anything that I mentioned, e.g., iMovie? Any Video Converter?
    I'm a Mac user so I want files that play "natively" in QT X, QT 7, QL, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, and/or TV players. This means I want the H.264/AAC compressed data in MOV, MP4, or M4V file containers. I can use QT 7 Pro, MPEG Streamclip, and /or QT X to move MPEG-4/AAC compressed data to MOV file containers, MPEG Streamclip to movie M4V and MOV MPEG-4/AAC data to MP4 file containers, and Subler to move MP4 or MOV MPEG-4 AVC/AAC/AC3/Chapter data to M4V file containers. This is strictly a simple "copy" operation and no recompression of data is involved. (I.e., the quality is not changed.)
    iMovie is a video editor and it forces an export conversion of your project once completed which can degrade quality. Have never used the Any Video Converter so I don't know if it has an audio and/or video "passthrough" feature for data already in a compatible compression formats. If it doesn't then any conversion it makes has the potential to degrade video content.
    As to AVI, this is a legacy file container abandoned by Microsoft a dozen years ago in favor of their modernized WMV compression format/file type products. Compared to MKV, AVI is an outmoded/out-of-date container which I don't recommend you use unless you are a glutton for punishment. However, if you must use it, then you might try the AvidMux app. It can "copy" compatible content to a number of file container types—including AVI and MKV. Just don't blame me if its use creates more problems than it solves on current Mac systems.

  • Share files between Mac and Windows in same iMac with boot camp

    Hello,
    I am new in using Mac and recently I buy a IMac 24" model.
    I used to use PC a long time with a lot of old document.
    I want to install Windows XP with boot camp.
    But I also want to share my documents, music, video files between Mac and Windows in same iMac.
    How can I do this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

    Hi Eric and welcome to Discussions and the Apple world.
    Mac OSX can read and write from Windows partitions (like the BootCamp Windows partition you are about to create) when using FAT32 as file system for Windows.
    However with FAT32 you are limited to a partition size of 32GB.
    Mac OSX can also read from Windows partitions that uses the NTFS file system, but it can not write to them unless you use a third-party helper like either Paragons NTFS for Mac http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/ or NTFS-3G http://www.ntfs-3g.org/
    Windows can not even see or use a Mac OSX partition without additional help by MacDrive http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/

  • How much of a difference is there between 2 GB and 3 GB RAM in Macbook Core Duo 2 GHz

    I upgraded the memory in a Macbook Core Duo 2.0 to 2 GB, as per Apple specs, but now find that the unit could handle 3 GB.  Is there a significant difference between 2 GB and 3 GB running Tiger and for light uses such as word processing and web surfing?  Would it be worth the expense upgrading to 3 GB?  Also, could such an upgrade be done with a 2 GB stick plus a 1 GB stick or do the two sticks have to be identical?
    Thanks.

    I'm assuming that you have a model 2,1 since that's the only one with the 3gb limit. Since the difference between 3gb and 4gb is only $12 it's up to you. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/
    OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
    You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.

  • Core2 Duo and Core Duo?

    I'm finally converting to mac and want to buy a mac mini but I was wondering if someone could help me out first. Is there a difference between the Core 2 Duo and the Core Duo? I was wondering if it would be better to wait for the Mini's to come out with the Core 2 Duo first before I bought one. I'd say if there's not much of a difference, I'm going for it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    but apple used to put a video car in the mini and the
    ibook's. there starting to get cheap. i kno the cards
    wernt top of the line but it made it a mac and not a
    junky peecee
    There are many points to make:
    1 - A Mac is not defined by the hardware but by how the system works, what it does, and how it does it. I would point out to you that the vast majority of users would find it hard to discern their system was Intel or PPC, or had a video card or integrated graphics. Some know and care, but most don't.
    2 - If you think integrated graphics equates to a 'junky pc' then it's time you tried a mini in comparison to an equivalent Dell.
    3 - You can ignore the technical issues if you want, but enhancements in systems design and chip performance have given rise to much better integrated graphics sub-systems than ever existed before.
    4 - There are many people who would consider the ATI 9200 (for example), as used on the G4 minis and many iBooks as extremely poor and limiting. Not surprising since by the standards of the day it was used on those systems it most assuredly was. It was also significantly inferior to the integrated graphics systems on the new models.
    5 - Horses for courses. Low-end systems will have low-end specifications both to hold prices down and make the entry-level models accessible to the buying public, and to ensure those models don't cannibalize sales of the higher-end gear. It would be idiocy of the worst sort to risk bumping the entry-price for Mac ownership up at all in order to include a video card that most users have no reason to actually want.
    6 - Prejudice against a design element doesn't equate to good technical evaluation. Objection to the integrated graphics choice is understandable in the historic context, but needs to be evaluated against the backdrop of what users actually want and realistically from their systems.
    7 - If anyone were to have specific need for a dedicated graphics sub-system in their Mac, there are plenty of models to offer it.

  • Differences xml-db  between R10g2 and R11_2 ?

    HI,
    there are differences in xml-db between R10g2 and R11_2 ?
    where I can find about it
    regards
    Edited by: astramare on Feb 17, 2011 3:04 PM

    ok:
    we have changed our DB from R10.2 to R11_2
    by using DataPump
    we do create a lot of different schema-based xml-Data
    by using DBMS_XMLGEN
    from a sql/xml-function based View
    like
    xmldoc := DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML(ctx);
    xmldoc_xmlType:=(xmltype(xmldoc)) ;
    xmldoc_xmlType.isSchemaValid
    dbms_xslprocessor.clob2file
    all other xml_schema do work fine after migration
    with this one following exception
    while validate the output inside a package
    we get an error
    LSX-00285: Referenzierter Schlüssel "405986.0" ist nicht definiert
    to look at differences
    I have identical created
    one XML-output in the ( old ) 10gR2 -DB
    and
    one XML-output in the ( new ) 11R2 - DB
    both I can ok validate against the same schema inside XML-Spy ( Vers 2006 )
    but
    the R10_2 XMLType does ok validate in DB 10gR2
    the R11_2 XMLType does not validate in R11 !
    by view the xml-data-files in XMLSpy or another editor
    there obvious a difference:
    In the SQL/XML-select I work with .extract
    the xml-output from R10 is correct in a xml-like structure
    the xml-output from R11 is not
    both data-file have the identical ascii-words
    but different size in kByte
    the call to register the schema in R10_2 and R11_2 is identical:
    dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema(
    schemaurl => vschemaurl,
    schemadoc => xsd_file,
    local => FALSE,
    gentypes => TRUE,
    genbean => FALSE,
    gentables => TRUE,
    force => FALSE,
    owner => dbuser
    ,CSID => nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8')
    the xml-schemas looks :
    R10
    <xs:schema targetNamespace="http://www.abcde.de/nsdir"
    elementFormDefault="qualified"
    attributeFormDefault="unqualified"
    xdb:flags="311"
    xdb:schemaURL="http://www.abcde.de/nsdis/SCHEMABEZ.XSD"
    xdb:schemaOwner="USER"
    xdb:numProps="36">
    R11:
    <xs:schema targetNamespace="http://www.abcde.de/nsdir"
    elementFormDefault="qualified"
    attributeFormDefault="unqualified"
    -- new ?!
    xdb:storeVarrayAsTable="true"
    -- flag ?!
    xdb:flags="8503"
    xdb:schemaURL="http://www.abcde.de/nsdis/SCHEMABEZ.XSD"
    xdb:schemaOwner="USER"
    xdb:numProps="36">
    may be its a problem inside the data in the Views ?
    or a difference between R10 and r11 ?
    regards

  • Hard drive speed for an imac core duo 2006

    I have an imac core duo 17in from 2006, 1.83 ghz. The hd is about to die. Did a routine verify disk, well tried and their was a message that the disk was infected and such and that it needed to be replaced.
    The hd is 7200rpm. Would a 5400rpm hd harm the computer? Would any SATA desktop hd work for this?

    Hello;
    What, exactly, was the message you received about the disk.  I have never heard of any message like the one you describe.

  • Link speed between WRE and WRT

    Hi All,
     Does anyone know if there a way to know speed between WRE54G range expander and WRT54G router? I afraid I've place WRE54G to close to network edge and it my slow down PC conected to expander.
    Regards,
    Alex.

    Hi… Range Expander reduces the network through-put of the wireless network by half. So the PC connected behind the range expander will have half the speed of the existing wireless network. So if your router gives you 54 Mbps connection you can get 22 Mbps out of range expander.

  • How big a difference is there between 1GB and 2GB of RAM?

    Hi everyone,
    I am currently running 1GB of RAM on my MacBook. How much difference in speed/performance would I see if I were to upgrade to 2GB? I spend most of my time in Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop CS, Canon EOS Utility (Using my computer to control my camera in studio situations), and just the regular iTunes, Safari stuff.
    If It makes any difference, I do run an external display in extended desktop mode off of my MacBook.
    This is the RAM I'm thinking of purchasing:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233050
    Thanks for any input.
    Dave

    I went from 1.25 gb to 2 gb and it works much better. Everything runs much smoother. I honestly can't say I noticed a difference in speed but I can have more windows open. I also use and external monitor and I MLB.TV on it while I am working on my main display. Never a glitch with the video. I use Photoshop CS3 and it works well.
    The ram you chose looks good. I ordered Crucial RAM from NewEgg and like it.
    Here are some benchmark test that will show the differences in RAM.
