  • Java JDK versions and compilation levels

    Hi,
    I have a question about differents java versions and the compilance level. As far as I know, if I am developing an application, for example a swing application or a JSF web project, that will be deployed to run in a JVM 1.6, I must compile my code with similar JDK, in this case, I must compile my code with a 1.6 JDK.
    But, for example, can I use JDK 1.7 with compilance level 1.6 to run code under 1.6 virtual machine?
    Suppose a JSF web project compiled with JDK 1.7 and source level 1.6 can be deployed on a tomcat that run in a 1.6 VM?
    If that is correct, I think that I should always get the last JDK version installed in my computer and choose the different compilance level (example 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 or 1.7) to compile my code based on the target JVM, is that correct?
    Thanks for your help, regards.

    Correct?Yes, and NO: the problem with what you said is "must be". If you compile with 1.7, but use objects that are backwardly compatible with 1.4, then it will work in 1.4 onward, but if you use features of 1.7 that are not compatible or possibly not available in 1.4, then you will not run in 1.4.
    Your statements:
    If my project will be executed on a JVM 1.4, I must have installed in my computer a JDK 1.4 and the project must be compiled with 1.4 JDK
    If my project will be executed on a JVM 1.6, I must have installed in my computer a JDK 1.6 and the project must be compiled with 1.6 JDK
    If my project will be executed on a JVM 1.7, I must have installed in my computer a JDK 1.7 and the project must be compiled with 1.7 JDKare safe, except where/if inconsistancies exist between versions.

  • SharePoint stp template is missing Language, Version and Feature ID.

    I uploaded a new template(.stp file) to List Template gallery.
    But it is not showing Language, version and Feature ID.
    As a result, I am not able to create a new library using the template.
    Any idea how to fix this?

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to SharePoint stp template missed Language, Version and Feature ID.
    Firstly, please check whether you create list template correctly.
    Secondly, please make sure you don’t edit the template.
    Finnaly, please use PowerShell to enable the 'ParserEnabled' property for the web site.

  • Interaction oracle 8.1.7 internal jdk version and jdk1.4

    Hi all
    If I install a jdk 1.4 in my PC which runs an oracle 8.1.7 server, which jdk version does oracle use if I create and execute a java stored procedure ?
    Thank you very much.

    Installing any other JVM on your system doesn't change the JVM Oracle uses to run Java stored procedures. I believe 8i was using a 1.1 JVM, but it's been a while.

  • WebKit version and features

    There is a scarcity of information about the version of WebKit embedded in AIR and the features that are enabled. Would an Adobean please provide some details?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hello. I don't see that anyone has replied to your post. And I too have been wondering about what WebKit version is embedded within Adobe AIR. I know there is a link to the WebKit port specifically for Adobe AIR under Webkit.org:
    http://trac.webkit.org/wiki/ApolloWebKit (this is the post to WebKit.org by Adobe Systems)
    And I know you can run the following javascript to see the WebKit version used by the container application:
    http://trac.webkit.org/wiki/DetectingWebKit
    But I haven't tried this yet. I'm sure there is something within the Adobe AIR documentation or language reference that specifies level of WebKit support.

  • Certain properties arent beiing set (JDK-Version difference 1.2.1 & 1.3.1)

    Hello alltogether
    I'm extending a software which was once written on the JDK 1.2.1. For my extenstions i choosed to used the JDK 1.3.1. Now that i m done with my part, i remarked that the existing part of the webapplication doesnt run correctly on a server with JDK 1.3.1, and my extensions doesnt run on a server with JDK 1.2.1.
    So what i m gonna do is, i have to make the existing system runnable on JDK 1.3.1, so that the whole system can be run on the server with JDK 1.3.1.
    The problem i have with the existing version, is that the properties arent beeing set.
    An example:
    The request string is:172.16.1.38:8080/SupportSystem/issuelist.jsp?ident=3&command=closed
    issuelist.jsp has uses the bean IssueBean and sets all its properties:
    <jsp:useBean id="issueBean" scope="request" class="ch.msw.support.beans.IssueBean" />
    <jsp:setProperty name="issueBean" property="*" />
    IssueBean's property-setter method for the look like the follows:
    public void setIdent(String newValue) {
      if(newValue != null) {
        try {
          id=Integer.parseInt(newValue);
        } catch (Exception e) {}
    }the command-property and the properties which are part of my enhancements are always beiing set. But the strange thing is that i cant find a difference between the functioning ones and the ones who fail
    My supposition is that the 2 JDK - versions (1.2.1 / 1.3.1) implement different JSP-specifications which are featuring a difference with the property-setter-calling.
    I cant figure how i could solve the problem...
    maybe you can :-)
    Thanks in advance!!!

    What you have should work so I don't have a quick fix, only suggestions on how to track down the problem.
    Presumably you must have recompiled IssueBean to add the new properties, so the java version is irrelevant. Ident is just as much a 1.3.1 property as is command.
    Is the getIdent() method defined correctly? It must be "public String getIdent()" If, say, you are returning an int then the getter/setter pair may not be recognized by jsp:setProperty.
    Try temporarily adding a System.out.println statement to setIdent so you know when it is called. Retest. If it is not called, add an explicit call to your JSP.
    Add code to your JSP to print out all parameters. This will show whether ident is being passed through.
    Good luck.

  • Differences between standard and pro versions

    I was reading the comparision of these two Acrobat versions and for Pro it says:
    Edit and enhance photos to add to your PDF communications with Adobe Photoshop® CS5.
    Quickly transform static PowerPoint slides into compelling, interactive PDF presentations with Adobe Presenter
    Rapidly combine screen recordings, narration, video, slides, and more into a rich media experience with Adobe Captivate® 5
    Does that mean that the Pro version includes Photoshop, Presenter and Captivate programs as well? Or, what are the differences? As an aside, the new look and feel of the Adobe website is confusing at best. Seems geared to being flashy, not useful.
    Regards, David

    Acrobat does not included those other packages. One of the pages that always struck me funny (maybe I have a twisted mind) but has this artistic background is the updates page. The background looks like a lacy bra to me. It is the first thing that comes to mind every time I see it. That is a problem with abstract images (that are typically unnecessary and waste bandwidth), that a lot is in the eye of the beholder. Actually, I have heard from many others that also see the bra.
    OK, back to Acrobat. There are several aspects of Acrobat that allow you to have links to the other products built in, but they are not included. The page at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/buying-guide.html?promoid=JIJYS provides some info, but a lot is missing. For instance there are differences with PDF Optimize and Reduce File Size I think (sorry, I do not have Std to check). One important one that is part of pro is the preflight option. Apparently Std does not include portfolios or allow PDF comparison according to the chart.
    If you are into forms, then Std apparently will do them as AcroForms (my preference, partially because of familiarity), but does not include Designer if that was your preference. Some of the enabling for Reader is not available in Std. Also, Std does not allow embedding Flash. Std is limited for some of the products that include PDF Maker (not a big one for me, but might be important to you).
    That is a quick summary based on the chart. However, be aware there are some other features that the chart does not seem to cover. For the difference between Std and Pro, I would suggest getting Pro. The big hit is the initial cost of the product, not the step up to Pro. In a business plan consider the time that might be wasted trying to do some of the things in Pro that are not in Std. Those are the types of issues to consider. Many folks consider the cost to be large, and for a small business it is. However, in the long term it may be worth the cost.
    Keep in mind that many large CAD packages in engineering run about $30,000 for a single license, half the cost of the engineer that would use it. Some other tools are about $15,000. In that view, Acrobat is cheap (except for cheapskates like me).

  • Difference Between CS6 and CC Versions

    I started the update to my CS6 software thinking that all this talk about the upgrade being designated as CC was a Marketing move.  Instead the Application Manager installed the CC version and kept the CS6 version installed.  What's the difference and why do we need both the CS6 and CC verions on our machines?
    Thanks in advance! - Ron

    Or, as in my case, Muse gives you an registration error message one day and won't launch (thinks I'm using a beta version when I'm not). Adobe support eventually advises you to remove all your copies of everything Adobe on your machine, including preferences etc. CS6, 5, 4...
    Support sends you a link to download Adobe Application Manager because you can't download it from your My Adobe. It works and you have time to download two of your Adobe apps because your day has been shot. Next day you launch Adobe Application Manager again and suddenly it upgrades and turns itself into Adobe Creative Cloud but won't actually launch as an app-managing app. Some kind of glitch. Now your array of CS6 apps doesn't exist anymore and you can't finish downloading your CC set.
    Adobe takes desktop control of your machine (very nice support feature) and can't solve it after an hour or so and so tell you to restart after creating another admin user, severing the chat connection. Now I'm waiting another hour for a chat representative to take my chat and hope for the best.
    Makes me wonder whether the boxed sets weren't better after all.... at least you knew you could reinstall something and DIY....  you weren't so completely and utterly dependent on Adobe support.

    For Functionality Differences pls refer to the below site -
    http://solutionbrowser.erp.sap.fmpmedia.com/
    One major difference is that 4.6 runs on what they call the basis layer, in 4.7 the basis layer was majorly modified to include new web technologies, hence the renaming of Basis to Web Application Server. 4.7 runs on the Web Application Server 6.20. With this, was the introduction to BSPs or Business Server Pages.
    Also have a look at the link:
    http://www.thespot4sap.com/Articles/SAP_Enterprise_4point7.pdf
    Here is a quick short list though:- Statements for character processing have additions IN BYTE MODE and IN CHARACTER MODE, this affects statements like DESCRIBE LENGTH, OPEN DATASET
    Header lines should not longer be used for tables (in OO context this is not even possible)
    TABLES statement in reports should no longer be used
    PNPCE for concurrent employement (new logical DB for HR)
    For OO abap there a plenty of short forms for method calls that were not previously available.
    One very cool feature is that data reference's can have actual data types and van be referenced directly without field symbols.
    Additions to many abap statements, for example there is now a ALL OCCURENCES addition to the replace statement.
    Class based exceptions are now available (although it is debatable how usefull these are seeing as there is no FINALLY part to the try catch statement, very disappointing but maybe that is just me).
    Friends have been introduced for OO abap.
    Dynamic program has plenty of improvements, for example there is now a TYPE TABLE OF variant for create data which lets you dynamically create an internal table with a structure type, your can also now call a class constructor with different importing parameters dynamically.
