Differences between AIR 3.4 & 3.5 - iOS

I've been having big problems trying to get a sucessful build for iOS for a swf with 2 ANEs using AIR 3.5.
Does anyone know if there are any differences between 3.4 and 3.5 that would cause a major slow down/crash in iOS applications compiled in 3.5?
I have no problems at all with 3.1, 3.3 and 3.4.
However, when I use 3.5, I either get a compile warning:
"ld: warning: PIE disabled. Absolute addressing (perhaps -mdynamic-no-pic) not allowed in code signed PIE...."
With this warning, the app does not work.
Or it compiles with no warning. When the app compiles without the warning, it will freeze almost imediately after loading.
For the SWF, I compile with AIR 3.4 and 3.5 - both command line and in FlexBuilder. I notice that when I compile
with 3.5, the SWF is significantly larger.
For 3.5, I have tried various combinations of the compiler option '-swf-version=17' (basically used 15,16,17 and 18).
I have tried all the various options in  the Application.xml header -
<application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/3.4"> - 3.1, 3.4, 3.5
For the ANEs, I have compiled with the 4.3, 5.0, 5.1 and 6.0 SDKs. I have changed the XML descriptor header - 3.1, 3.4 ,3.5 etc.

Thanks a lot Neh!
What you say is basically what I thought - but I didn't think of using 3.4 with platformsdk 6.0 - good idea - I will try it in the morning.
One other point is the size of the swf. When I compile with 3.5 (even excluding the actionscript 2.0 compiler), the swf is about 500k bigger - does this ring any bells for you?

What is difference between air play and home sharing when wanting to show photos on HD tv through apple tv?  Just bought Mac book air and apple tv.

You would have to use home-sharing if streaming from a computer. Computer would need to be on and running iTunes.

Airplay would be useful if streaming from an IOS device

  • The difference between AIR-ANT5135D-R and AIR-ANT5135DB-R

    Hi,
Anyone know what is the difference between AIR-ANT5135D-R and  AIR-ANT5135DB-R ?
From the dynamic configuration tools for 1252 and 1242, AIR-ANT2422DB-R is inside one of the antenna option.
However, I can't find it in the "Cisco Aironet Antennas and Accessories Reference  Guide"
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps7183/ps469/product_data_sheet09186a008008883b.html
Inside the document there is only AIR-ANT5135D-R.
likewise for the 2.4 GHz,  AIR-ANT2422DB-R is inside the dynamic configuration tools and not inside "Cisco Aironet Antennas and Accessories Reference  Guide"
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks,
    Richard

Found the difference, AIR-ANT5135DB-R and       AIR-ANT2422DB-R are  non-articulating antennas.
    Thanks!

What is difference between Firefox OS and Android or iOS?

kingofhawks, Firefox os is open source, offers the ability of do not track and has many great customization options. It is currently however targeted at 3rd world countries and/ or underdeveloped countries so it isn't recommended to use this if you're use to using Android and iOS at this moment. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

  • Differences between CS5.5 and CS6 for iOS development and export?

I am just curious how Flash Pro CS5.5 is compromised in this regard.
And is it possible to make up any differences by installing an SDK or update package?
    Thanks

    Thanks
Why does it have better performance specifically? ... Because of the Air Compiler being newer?
Would it be possible to get the same improvements by doing an "overlay" install of the newer SDK for Air as outlined here....?

  • Whats the difference between the Flash Player runtime and Adobe AIR runtime?

Hey all. I've been into coding for about 5 years now, but I'm a recent convert to Flash development. One of the questions I have at the moment is, considering that SWF files can be run by either Adobe Flash Player OR Adobe AIR, what's the real difference between the two runtime environments? What API's and Objects exist in one environment, but not the other?
Basically what I'm more or less trying to establish is, when would I want to develop an SWF for AIR, and when would I want to develop for Flash Player, considering that Flash Player can also execute locally (providing support for creating "desktop applications").
    Thanks in advance,
                               Jay.

Main Difference for the user: he also has to install the AIR runtime, that is about 15MB (Flash Plugin won`t do the job alone).
The market penetration for AIR is way below that of flash, so your user needs a good reason to install the Runtime
Also the System requirements are much more harder, you can`t use an Air application in XPSP1 for example.
As a rule of thumb you could say: Use Air, if you want to have the user something saved locally, with AIR you have the possibility to write any fileformat to hard disk, with flash you can only use so called Local shared objects

  • What are the major differences between the air and the pro

what are the major differences between the air and the pro?

In a nutshell, the Air is a lightened, more compact system than the 13" Pro counterpart. The Air loses some hardware features to accommodate the physical downsizing.
    No FireWire port
    No built-in optical drive
A lesser performing CPU to retain battery charge life, and adequate cooling.
    No Ethernet port
    No Kensington lock slot
The Air does have a superior native resolution at 1440 x 900, and a standard SSD that does make up alot of the speed differential, and then some. Of course, the 13" Pro can be optionally configured with an SSD.
You buy the Air if the physical size an weight savings are demonstrably more important than the features lost.

  • What is the difference between Apple Ipad Air Model

What is the difference between Apple Ipad Air Model # MD788LL/A and Model # MD788LL/B

These models both use the same i7-3820QM processor, so difference(if any) is probably not in CPU(only stepping can be different, but intel site shows only E1). GPU is also the same(again, 'revision' or something may be different). doesn't seem that RAM is different either, it's 1600 DDR3L(only timings and power consumption can differ, but it's unlikely). SSD - cannot say anything from specs. Screen[manufacturer]? Googling shows nothing for me. And only visible difference(apart from model number) for me is price. As I'm considering purchase, I don't want to spend more money to get different number.

  • What are the differences between Mac Air and Mac Pro?

What are really the main differences between the Macbook Air and the MacBook Pro?
I am thinking of getting a laptop by mac. I like the prices of the Air but the Pro seems better performance.
However my needs are internet, email, word processing and some photos, pictures etc.
would i still be able to do many good applications on the Air vs the Pro?
    suggestions please?
    thanks

The base model current 2013 Air will perform faster and better in general than the base model 13" non-Retina Macbook Pro.
    Ive got both of them.
    On the Air:
    Faster wifi (by far) 802ac
Faster boot and read/ write due to SSD
Much longer battery life due to Haswell upgrade made in June
Crisper sharper screen, better to stare at for long periods
MUCH FEWER parts to go bad,.....also only one moving part, the Fan
No HD to crash from mechanical failure
Packing the AIr around is a dream since is nearly the weight of an Ipad.
Dont get fooled like most do in seeing the super-skinny AIr as less than a full power machine, ....thats always someones first huge mistake when they see one.

A iPad is a touchbased tablet, it has a poor Atom level dual core processor that can do some things, but not a whole lot. The storage isn't so great on them and it needs a computer to operate. Can only run software from the App Store.
The MacBook Air is a lightweight laptop with a real keyboard, but limited other features like no cd/dvd drive, it's the best for ultimate portability and lightweight uses with good features. Can run a lot of third party software no problem.
The MacBook Pro 13" is a mid range laptop with cd/dvd drive, but poor integrated graphics. (little 3D gaming)
The MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz is slightly above that, it has both a integrated graphics and a dedicated graphics card with about the same performance. (not good for 3D gaming)
The 2.2, 2.3 Ghz 15" and 17" MacBook Pro's are professional level laptops and 3D gamers machines with very powerful graphics cards, these are the crown jewel machines in Apple's lineup.

  • Looking for new laptop what are the differences between pro and air? Besides size. Does the air preform like the pro?

Looking for new laptop what are the differences between pro and air? Besides size. Does the air preform like the pro?

The NEW macbook Pro and Air are EXTREMELY close in form factor
The newest macbook Pro is essentially a larger macbook Air with Retina display and options for speed in increasing prices up to an independent graphics and quad core processor.
both Air and new Pro now have PCIe SSD and permanent RAM.
The Air is the lightweight portable form factor, fast to boot and shut down, but with longer battery life than any of the macbook pro in 13"
Now the new macbook Pro and macbook Air are extremely close in form factor and nature.
    both have 802ac wifi
both have permanent RAM, no superdrive
both are slim profiles and SSD
The only real differences now are (in the most expensive Pros) faster processors and quadcore processors and top end model autonomous graphics.
....and of course the retina display
both are now "very good for travel"
Other than features the form factor of the Air and Pro are VERY close now,....so now its merely a matter of features and price more than anything.
You need an external HD regardless of what you get for backups etc.   Drop into an Apple store and handle both and make your choice based on features, such as Retina or non-retina, .... both at a distance now look like the same computer.
The Pro weighs more, ....but nowhere near what it used to just a month ago on the older macbook Pros
The NEW macbook Pro is a different creature entirely than the older macbook Pro, .....the new Pro is thicker than the Air, but id frankly call the NEWEST Pro a "macbook Air with Retina display" , or
Maybe a “macbook Air PRO with Retina display”
Instead of Air VS Pro now,.....its really a smooth transition from Air to pro without comparing say, 2 different creatures, now its like contrasting a horse from a race horse.
Either one in 8gig of RAM (preferably)... the 4gig upgrade costs very little,  the I7 you will notice only 15% faster on heavy applications over the I5, and NOTHING on most APPS.....I5 has longer battery life.
As you see below, the non-Retina 13" AIR is 82% of the Macbook with Retina display in resolution
there is no magical number of pixels per inch that automatically equates to Retina quality.
    http://www.cultofmac.com/168509/why-you-might-be-disappointed-by-the-resolution- of-those-new-retina-display-macs-feature/
A huge internal SSD isnt a game changer for anything, you need an external HD anyway
what you WONT READ on Apple.com etc. is that the larger SSD  are MUCH FASTER due to SSD density
"The 512GB Samsung SSD found in our 13-inch model offers roughly a 400MB/s increase in write speeds over the 128GB SanDisk/Marvell SSD"
