Different scenario to run Former XML Publisher report

Hi All.
I have some different kind of scenario to run the XML Publisher report. Please look into the following scenario and requirements:
In my current project we are implementing 22 languages like Chinese, Japanese, Spanish etc. Out of these 22 languages, 8 languages will be installed and 14 will be uninstalled. We are defining the language on 2 places: OU level and Address level. For those reports that need to be translated, we are using XML Publisher to achieve this, but we have different scenario to pass the language, in order to select the corresponding template.
Scenario: As i mentioned we are defining the languages on address level, it is considered that the language defined at the address level will be customer's preferred language and he would like to see the output in that language only. there are 2 possible conditions while running the report: 1. User may select the language in which he want the report to be displayed in. 2. User may not select any language. The 1st scenario can be fulfilled by standard functionality. but in case of second scenario when user does not select any language then we need to display the report in language defined on address level for that customer. For Ex: if the Invoice report is running for 4 invoices and have 2 different customers and their preferred language is different, suppose for 1 customer it is Chinese and for another one it is Japanese. Then we need to display the output in customer's preferred language only i.e for Japanese customer it should be in Japanese and for Chinese customer it should be in Chinese i.e 2 different templates will be applicable.
So as per this while submitting the concurrent request we need to check whether user has selected the language or not? And after making all the conditions check we will have to submit the xml publisher report using API. Do you have any suggestion how can we achieve this task?
Please suggest.
Thanks,
AS

Hi AS,
How about using a conc prog parameter for User selected language, and XML element data at customer level, then call a subtemplate (or multiple embedded regions in the same template) in the required language based on if or case logic in the template.

Gareth

When running an xml publisher report the xml output leads to 9 mb and the excel output file leads to 20 mb. The records contained in excel file is 4000 records. When taking the excel records and copy to new excel file the excel file size is 3.5 mb only.Why does the oracle software generates 20mb file?
Does any one knows the answer please advice?

Hello,
This issue is because the Excel output from BI Publisher is MHTML (XML Publisher generates XHTML) not binary .xls.
MHTML and XHTML are more verbose formats than binary .xls.
It will be large because the current Excel output is just an HTML and not compressed like PDF. Please use the workaround (save it as .xls file). This is a known limitation of RTF layout templates.
BI Publisher Enterprise has a new feature True Excel Templates. The layouts generate binary Excel output.
Excel Output File Size Generated By BI Publisher is Very Large (Doc ID 760437.1)

• Different methods of creating an XML Publisher report

Hi All,
Can anyone please advice me on different methods of creating an XML Publisher report.
The method which we us is as follows -
1. Create an RDF file and upload the same in the /REPORTS/US path.
2. create a concurrent program, give output as XML.
3. Create a data definition, but here we do not upload any data definition.
4. Create a template and upload the RTF template.
But I have heard that there is a method wherein we do not have to create the RDF and simply adding the query to the XML file works.
But in that case do we upload anything in tht Data defition also ?
Can anyone please provide me any link or some place where I can read about different methods to create an XML report without the use of an RDF.
Regards,
Shruti

Hi Shruti,
There is a method where we need not to create RDF as data defination. You need to write a xml file which we upload as data defination. The short name for this data defination used as short name as concurrent program having executable XDODTEXE.
Sample XML data template :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<dataTemplate name="EmpData" description="Employee Details" version="1.0">
<dataQuery>
<sqlStatement name="Q1">
<![CDATA[select business_group_id, business_group_name
from hrfv_business_groups
where date_to is null
and business_group_id not in (0, 82)
order by business_group_id]]>
</sqlStatement>
<sqlStatement name="Q2">
<![CDATA[select employee_number,
title ,
full_name,
sex ,
date_of_birth,
email_address
from per_all_people_f
where business_group_id = :business_group_id
and current_employee_flag ='Y'
and trunc(sysdate) between effective_start_date and effective_end_date
and rownum<11]]>
</sqlStatement>
</dataQuery>
<dataStructure>
<group name="G_BG" source="Q1">
<element name="BusinessGroupId" value ="business_group_id"/>
<element name="BusinessGroupName" value ="business_group_name"/>
<group name="G_EMP" source="Q2">
<element name="EmpNumber" value ="employee_number"/>
<element name="Title" value ="title"/>
<element name="FullName" value ="full_name"/>
<element name="Sex" value ="sex"/>
<element name="DateOfBirth" value ="date_of_birth"/>
<element name="EmailAddress" value ="email_address"/>
</group>
</group>
</dataStructure>
</dataTemplate>
This data template generates xml data which prints output on rtf template.
Hope this will help. Let me know for more info.

• Utilizing XML Publisher Report Bursting Program user-variables

When running the XML Publisher Report Bursting Program against a bursting control file, I see the following in the log:
Bursting propertes.....
{user-variable:cp:territory=US, user-variable:cp:ReportRequestID=4413342, user-variable:cp:language=en, user-variable:cp:responsibility=20678, user-variable.OA_MEDIA=http://hostname:8000/OA_MEDIA, burstng-source=EBS, user-variable:cp:DebugFlag=N, user-variable:cp:parent_request_id=4413342, user-variable:cp:locale=en-US, user-variable:cp:user=USER, user-variable:cp:application_short_name=XDO, user-variable:cp:request_id=4413368, user-variable:cp:org_id=204, user-variable:cp:reportdescription=Report Name, user-variable:cp:Dummy for Data Security=Y}
I would like to reference one or more of these in
1. My bursting control file
2. My template (to be output in final PDF).
I cannot seem to get this to work in my bursting control file by referencing:
${cp:user} (note that it just returns the word 'null' here instead of the value)
nor can I get it to work in my RTF template by referencing:
<?xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX, ‘cp:user’)?>
Should this work, or I am missing something?
Thanks

Thanks Ike, it likely would. The thing I keep coming back to is an example in the BIP Developer's Guide that suggests you can set a property and have it made available:
DocumentProcessor dp = new DocumentProcessor (cfgFile, xmlFile, dir);
Properties prop= new Properties();
prop.put("user-variable:ADMIN_EMAIL","[email protected]");
dp.setConfig(prop);
dp.process()
Seems to me that the work going on behind the scenes here (based on log statements alone) suggest the same sort of integration.. but I suppose not.
Thanks

• Run XML Publisher Report via URL (like Oracle Reports)

Hi All,
Is it possible to run xml-publisher report via URL?
In Oracle Reports works this fine:
http://test:7777/reports/rwservlet?server=test_bihome1&report=test1.rdf&userid=test/testv@db&desformat=pdf&destype=cache
We need this for public reports without user login.
Thanks
Thomas

Thomas,
I was waiting to get home before Tim replied... He got the better of me this time :-)
You say you want to let your users run reports using XMLP just by clicking on an URL same way you do with reports and without having to login. If I got the question right and assuming that:
1.Your company is not overly concerned on who runs what reports
2.Who sees what data
3.Your XMLP installation is on your intranet and firewalled from the outside
What you can do is:
On the main page of your XMLP Enterprise installation you should see a folder called "Guest". Any report you create under this folder is run as user "guest" which means you don't have to authenticate yourself as you would normally do.
I have tested this on my home server and this is what I've done:
1.Logged in as admin or any other user you've created with admin privileges created a report under the "Guest" folder.
2.Copied the URL, on my server it is "http://samba.private.net:15101/xmlpserver/Guest/People/People.xdo"
4.Logged off as admin and pasted the URL to a new browser window
5.Hit return and Voila, my report runs without the need to login to XMLP.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you got on.
Cheers,
Joao
PS: If you want to see the report for yourself here's the URL from the outside: http://medeiros.homelinux.net:15101/xmlpserver/Guest/People/People.xdo
I'll keep the link alive for a couple of days.
