Different versions of multi-select controls

Hello,
Is there a way to substitute the multi-select control that OBIEE currently uses (a box with possible selections on the right, which the user selects by moving to the left)? Our users find that control very confusing, and would prefer something simpler such as checkboxes.
I've worked with Business Objects, Cognos, and OBIEE, and I know it's not usual to have checkboxes, but even the multi-select listbox that BOBJ uses would be better than the OBIEE one. Has anyone tried anything like this?
Thanks,
Samori

Cannot you insert those values into a temporary table and work within a subquery against that table ? That will make the code more secure, especially if the number of values is high.

  • How to add own selection version in LDB selection

    Friends,
    I'm using the logical database KDF. Is it possibe to add  selection version in the KDF?? I tried to edit the selection of KDF but system asks for developer key.
    Please suggets a way.
    Many Thanks,
    Albert.

    Hi,
    you can use the following statements to extend the selection screen:
    ·        Use the PARAMETERSstatement and its additions to add input fields for single values. You could use these, for example, to control the flow of the program. In the selection include, you must use the addition FOR NODE or FOR TABLE in the PARAMETERS statement. You can use NODE for all node types. You can only use TABLE for nodes with type T. When the selection screen is generated, the system only generates fields for the nodes declared in the executable program in the NODES or TABLES statement, or those requested by the function module LDB_PROCESS.
    ·        Use the SELECTION-SCREENstatement to format the selection screen.
    · The statement
    SELECTION-SCREEN DYNAMIC SELECTIONS FOR NODE|TABLE node.
    allows you to define further nodes for dynamic selections. If the node has type T, you can use TABLE instead of NODE. The user can then decide at runtime the components of the node for which he or she wants to enter selections. Dynamic selections require special handling in the database program.
    · The statement
    SELECTION-SCREEN FIELD SELECTION FOR NODE|TABLE node>.
    allows you to define further nodes for field selections. If the node has type T, you can use TABLE instead of NODE. In an executable program, you can use a field list in the GET statement to specify which fields of the node of the logical database should be read. In the function module LDB_PROCESS, the parameter FIELD_SELECTION must be passed accordingly. Dynamic selections require special handling in the database program.
    · The statements
    SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF VERSION dynnr
      SELECTION-SCREEN EXCLUDE f.
    SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF VERSION dynnr.
    allow you to create different versions of the selection screen with screen number dynnr less than 1000. You can hide the input fields of selection criteria or parameters as specified in f. This allows an executable program to work with an appropriate selection screen version.

  • Multi-select prompt

    Hi All
    I created a Dashboard prompt and I select Multi-select control.
    When I previw the results all the values are apprearing in one single line.
    like 101102103104 etc.....Also the values has hyperlink, so if I click 101 then I am getting just 101 as selected.
    Can you please let me know how can I change that so that I can see each value in different line like
    101
    102
    etc..
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I'm looking for the same. Could you please provide the steps to how to create this prompt and then how to pass the value from the prompt to the Physical layer?
    In the Physical layer I'm fetching the data using a MSSQL stored procedure which is accepting some input parameter, so what I'm trying to do is to pass the value from the prompt to the variable (which is passed as an input to the MSSQL stored procedure)
    Please let me know how to do this.
    Thanks,
    Mithun

  • Values from a Multi-Select in the where clause of a Select statement

    I have a web page that solicits query parameters from the user.
    The selections that the user makes will populate the WHERE clause of a Select statement.
    One of the controls on the page is a multi-select control.
    When this page posts, I would like to execute a Select statement wherein the selected values from this control appear in the .. Column IN ( <list here> ) portion of the WHERE clause.
    This is an extremely common scenario, but I cannot seem to locate a how-to or message thread that addresses this specific case.
    I have an idea that it may involve dynamic SQL or Execute Immediate, but cannot seem to pin down the answer.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Multi-select prompt for BI Publisher SQL report in Dashboard?

    Is there any way to populate a presentation variable from a multi-select dashboard prompt?
    I have a BIP report using a SQL data source, and it will be presented on an OBIEE dashboard. Since the only apparent method for prompting a SQL BIP report from a dashboard prompt is to use presentation variables, and it appears that you can only set presentation variables using non-multi-select controls, it looks like there's no way to do this.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the response Fabiano.
    I tried using BI Answers to feed this report but it ended up being too cumbersome because of the number of queries and the awkward XML data names generated on calculated fields. Those were the main reasons for SQL data sources. I was able to cut the report from 10 queries down to 2, and assign meaningful XML data names. The report runs much faster and works very well. I am using bind variables, but the only way to populate them (apparently) is to use presentation varibles, which are not populated on a multi-select prompt.

  • Multi-values selection control configuration

    The multi-values selection control give the user the option to select values from 'right to left'.
    Is there a way to reverse it to 'left to right', like users are regular from other GUI applications?
    Even in OBIEE other cases, like delivers subscribers, the selection is from 'left to right'.

    Hi nir,
    The behaviour is default in BI you cant change it.....As the default one would be right to left.Its not possible to change.

    Do you mean displaying a multi-select enabled select list as a drop-down list rather than as a list box? If so, this is not possible using standard APEX/web browser controls.

  • Multi-select LOV bug and Developer6i R2 Patch7

    Has anyone verified that Patch7 corrects the problem with multi-
    select LOV bug (see below). The Headstart6i Report Launch form
    (QMS0012F) exhibits this bug (when using the demo reports for
    example) and we were unsuccessful applying the workaround (see
    below). We will upgrade to Patch7 if this bug is fixed or we
    could use a little help from the HeadStart team correcting the
    Report Launch form to get around this bug. Thanks, Keith
    We have found one odd quirk with Headstart 6i and Forms
    6i versions 6.0.13 and higher.
    Description ===========
    1. When using a multi-select LOV (which is displayed in a modal
    dialog window), you select the records you want, press OK, and
    the application exits.
    2. When using a shuttle control to move records from left to
    right or vice versa, you select the records you want, press '>'
    to move them, and the application exits. This occurs in Forms
    6.0.8.13.0 and higher. It did NOT occur in prior releases. This
    is some kind of forms bug.
    Workaround ==========
    For some reason the call to procedure 'renumber' in
    qms$msel.process_records in qmslib65.pll causes the application
    to exit. If you copy the code from renumber to all the places
    from which it is called, it works fine.

    So far as I know, this bug has not yet been corrected.
    You will have to apply the fix as described in your email
    message.

  • Multi-select LOV's hang form and use 100% CPU power

    Hello,
    We are using Designer 6i (6.5.52.1.0) and Headstart 6.5
    In one of our forms we are using 6 Multi-select LOV's.
    When we click the Cancel or Ok button (included through QMS_MSEL_LOV_BUTTONS), or hit Enter query in one of the ML_... blocks the form hangs and starts using all the CPU-power. I've tested this locally (c/s) and through the web (iAS), same result...
    I already rebuilt the LOV's but the problem isn't solved.
    We've got other forms with one or two multi-select LOV's, and these work fine.
    Has anyone experienced this behaviour before, and what is the cure?
    Thanks in advance!
    Wouter

    Wouter,
    If you are running against Solaris, you could be running into the following:
    Headstart applications that run via webforms on a Sun Solaris application server, suffer again from bug 1985903. This bug was spotted and solved a time ago and seemed to be solved at next
    releases of Forms 6i. Now, on Solaris the bug is introduced again.

    For some reason the call to procedure renumber in qms$msel.process_records
    causes the application to exit. If you copy the code from renumber to all the
    places from which it is called, it works fine.
    - open qmslib65.pll in Form Builder
    - open package body qms$msel
    - find procedure process_records and define a local variable l_recno of type
    number.
    - find local procedure renumber and copy the body of this procedure
    (everything
    after 'begin' and before 'exception').
    - replace each call to 'renumber;' with the copied code.
    A new version of qms$msel package body is available on iXchange for download.

  • File Browser with multi select....

    Is it possible to have a file browser with multi- select??? I have several (possibly dozens) of files in a directory that I'd like to up load using a file browser style item, but be able to select several at a time to up load rather that doing them on at a time. Is this possible???

    Different idea, look at this thread, where you could just have multiple file upload capacity in a form.. The multi-select with browser I believe is NOT possible with current version of APEX.

  • Multiple Default Values in a Multi-Select LOV Parameter?

    Hi,
    I have a report in BI Publisher standalone version 10.1.3.4. The report has a list of values called org_lov. This lov is attached to a multi-selection p_org_code parameter from which it is desirable to also have multiple default values.
    For example, if org_lov has the following values:
    100
    101
    102
    103
    104
    105
    106
    I would like to have 3 default values and have 100, 101,105 as the defaults if the user doesn't specifically select anything from the LOV. So far my testing has only allowed a single default value.
    Here are my settings:
    Data type = string
    Multiple Selection = checked
    Can select All = checked (all values passed)
    On the Default Value field, I have tried the following:
    1. 100, 101,105
    2. [100, 101,105]
    3. '100', '101','105'
    4. (100, 101,105)
    5. ['100', '101','105']
    6. ('100', '101','105')
    I don't need these default values highlighted in the LOV, I just need it passed correctly to the query (a data template).
    Thank you in advance for any input.

    Hi,
    Sorry for the delayed reply. I tried what you suggested but the problem is that by having the "Multiple Selection" property of the parameter unchecked, the result is that it allows the user to only have a single value passed. The user wants the option to select multiple values AND also have the multiple default values.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Need to store variables from multi-select in Dashboard Prompt.

    I am using a Dashboard Prompt with a Drop-down List Control. The user selected value from this Drop-down List Control is stored in a Presentation Variable.
    I would like to use a Multi-Select Prompt and store all multi-select values in a variable string. I have read that is not possible to use Presentation Variables with a Multi-Select Prompt.
    Does anyone have a workaround for this?

  • How To hide a column on a Matrix using a parameter that is set-up as a multi-select

    Hi,
    I have a multi-select parameter (has 4 choices ie. A,B,C,D).  In the matrix the parent Column group is a date and the child group is based on the Multi-select parameter field.  When all choices are selected the report returns a column per

  • Bug while saving multi select list

    Hi,
    My requirement is to construct a region where user can select their answer from available option. answer field can be multiple select/single select or text area.
    I have written below query to achieve different type of answer field.
    /**query****/
    DECLARE
    v_sql VARCHAR2 (32767);
    v_answer VARCHAR2 (32767);
    v_main_sql VARCHAR2 (32767);
    BEGIN
    FOR cur IN (SELECT question_id, question, answer_type, available_answer FROM question WHERE status= 'ACTV')
    LOOP
    v_sql := 'SELECT ';
    v_sql := v_sql || ' APEX_ITEM.hidden(4,question_id)||question question, '; /*do not show question id as per requirement*/
    IF cur.answer_type = 'MS' -- Multi Select List
    THEN
    v_answer := cur.available_answer;
    v_sql :=
    v_sql
    || ' APEX_ITEM.SELECT_LIST_FROM_QUERY(3,null,''SELECT * from table(
    AU_F_LOV_FN('''''
    || v_answer
    || '''''))'',''class="multiselect" multiple="multiple"'',''NO'') Answer ';
    ELSIF cur.answer_type = 'SS'
    THEN -- Single Select List
    v_answer := cur.available_answer;
    v_sql :=
    v_sql
    || ' APEX_ITEM.SELECT_LIST_FROM_QUERY(3,null,''SELECT * from table(
    AU_F_LOV_FN('''''
    || v_answer
    || '''''))'') Answer ';
    ELSE -- Free text
    v_sql := v_sql || ' apex_item.textarea(3,available_answer,2,20) Answer ';
    END IF;
    v_sql := v_sql || ' from question ';
    v_sql := v_sql || ' where question_id=' || cur.question_id;
    IF v_main_sql IS NULL THEN
    v_main_sql := v_sql;
    ELSE
    v_main_sql := v_main_sql ||' UNION ' || v_sql;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    RETURN v_main_sql;
    END;
    /***end of query***/
    If I select two options from multiple select list it is saving two records into table instead of saving one record with colon delimeter.
    /**query to save**/
    FOR i IN 1 .. APEX_APPLICATION.G_F03.COUNT
    LOOP
    IF APEX_APPLICATION.G_F03(i) IS NOT NULL THEN
    UPDATE question_answer
    SET answer = v_answer
    WHERE question_id = APEX_APPLICATION.G_F04(i)
    and call_id=p_sourceid;
    IF sql%rowcount =0 then
    INSERT INTO question_answer (question_id,
    answer,
    call_id,
    status,
    customer_id)
    VALUES (APEX_APPLICATION.G_F04(i),
    nvl(v_answer,APEX_APPLICATION.G_F03(i)),
    p_sourceid,
    'ACTV',
    p_customer_id);
    END if;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    /**End**/
    Can anyone please help me? Why is it happening? How to tweak my query so that it saves one record with colon delimeter.

    Technically, my understanding is that a Shuttle is just two multiselect lists where javascript moves the items from one to the other. Technically its the same thing, just different presentation and methods for selection. When you go to process, its seen the same way as you initially had your code setup so no code changes would have been necessary. As it's a built in item type and with APEX's backwards compatibility policies, if your code works now it should continue to work.
