Digital Output Sequence (variable timing) NI 9472

Hi,
Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for creating a VI to do the following:
I have 6 valves which I want to control with a NI 9472 module (8 digital outputs). The valves have a set sequence of 6 stages, each with different times (which I would like to be able to vary)
I have 3 of the above setup (ie 3 sets of 6 valves) that I would like to control in the same way but independent from each other.
I have attached a diagram of the valve setup and sequencing that i would like to achieve.
Thanks for your ideas.
Setup:
NI cDAQ-9174 Chassis
3 x NI 9472 24V sourcing module.

OK here is a quick idea about my suggestion. Let me know what you think. For now you need to set up the array for the time and valves before you start the program.

  • Controlling digital outputs with timing

    Hello,
I am having trouble controlling my digital outputs based on using a timer to control them. My problem with this code is that when running case #2 the output comes on both the indicator and the h/w channel as expected but when the timer elaspes the indicator goes off the the digital output channel stays on. Maybe there is a better way or more common practise of controlling logic based on using timers? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Do I need to buy SignalExpress to use a ENET-9472 Digital Output Module.

I’ll describe my application and then ask the question. We are life testing DC motors.  For each motor we measure the armature temperature. We are controlling the on/off duty cycle with a PLC.  If the temperature exceeds a limit we want to send a signal to the PLC to shut down the test. Here are my question: LabVIEW SignalExpress LE comes with the purchase of the ENET-9213 thermocouple module. It does not have the alarm feature. LabVIEW SignalExpress does have the alarm feature but costs $749.
If we use an ENET-9213 thermocouple module to measure the temperature and a ENET-9481 Digital Output module do we need to purchase LabVIEW SignalExpress to send an over temp signal to the PLC?
    Thanks;
    Tom Renner

    Hello Tom,
Judging from your application, it sounds like you need to be able to send a software trigger when your thermocouple module reaches  a certain value. If that is the case from the LabVIEW SignalExpress Help comparison table, it appears you are going to need a licensed SignalExpress
To verify whether or not the software suits your application, I recommend downloading  and installing LabVIEW SignalExpress and using the 30-day free trial of the full edition software. Just download the latest version of DAQmx, this will install SignalExpress and allow you to simulate the hardware so you can try programing the application during your 30-day trial and verify SignalExpress is right for your application.

  • Need help created state machine with timed digital output

Hello everyone I'm new in LabView especially about how to make a state machine. I want to make simulation about state machine with digital output. In Front Panel there are volt_in as an input slider (0-10 V), two numeric control (upper limit and bottom limit), a waveform chart to plot those 3 value, and three boolean (P0.0, P0.1, P0.2) as an indicator. Boolean indicator will on if input from slider exceed the limit in certain situation. This simulation will work as follow:
    1. Define the upper & bottom limit (ex. 8 & 4V)
    2. Make an input from slider (0-10V)
    3. If input (2) exceed the upper limit but less than 10 second (ex. you have 9V input for 8 second, but after 8 second you change the slider back to normal between 4-8V) then the boolean indicator P0.0 & P0.2 will stay off
    4. If input (2) exceed the upper limit more than 10 second (ex. you have 9V input for 4 second, change to 8.5 V for 3 second, and then change to 10V for 3 second) then the boolean indicator P0.0 will turn on for 5 second, turn off, then follow by indicator P0.2 for 5 second, and turn off
    5. Wait 15 second, then repeat process from (2)
Same process for input that exceed the bottom limit (P0.1 and P0.2 as indicator).
Can you help me make the block diagram of this process? I will appreciate any of your help.
    Best Regards

I would highly recommend you to open the template in LabVIEW to design state machines. You can the Standard State Machine template if you go to File -> New.. and Browse to VI -> From Template -> Frameworks -> Design Patterns.
Also, here is a good explanation of one:

  • Microseconds delay to control digital outputs in WSN-3202

    Hi,
I’m using the LabVIEW WSN Module to control the digital outputs of the WSN-3202 node. Is there a way to add a microseconds delay in my flat sequence structure? Because I’m using a pulse driven optical sensor which requires delays intervals in microseconds.
    Thanks,
    Ahmed

    Hi Ahmed,
The availability of a microsecond resolution for timing depends on the onboard clocks or setup that the system allows. These nodes are often used to control/acquire in a non-continuous way to save battery. Therefore, they are required to wake/sleep in cycles that take a couple of minutes generally. What are you exactly trying to do with the node?

  • USB-6009 pulse train generation with digital output....

    Hello!
I've bought a new USB NI-Card (USB-6009) and now I'm trying to adopt an old vi that uses traditional DAQ drivers. I wrote that vi for a PCI NI-Card (PCI-6024E), which has two counters to generate two pulse trains simultaneously. Now I've only one counter and that's why I'm searching for a good way to create pulse trains using a digital output! The pulse trains are both ranging between 100 Hz and 100 kHz.
I'm sure somebody has an idea how I can solve the probem in the best way
    Kind regards,
    Peter

You can't do it with this low cost board. Both digital and analog outputs are software timed only. The analog out is rated at only 150  samples/sec and the digital is about the same. You can't even use one of the counters because it is not a hardware timed counter output. It is an event counter only as an input.

  • How to give delay in switch on digital output lines

    Hello All,
I am working on PCI-6514 Digital IO card, I am writing a sequence to my application using DAQmax for  Digital input and output lines
I want to switch on one output line0 and after a delay 5sec switch on line1 output and after a delay of 3sec switch on line2 output and sense input line 0 and line 1 .
How can we know the status of output ie output is on or off.
Since i am using the IO card for first time suggest me in this.

    Hi
I am going to assume that you are using LabVIEW 7.1 for this application.  If you are trying to acquire data from an external device after outputting data to that device, the DAQmx tristate property node will give you this functionality.
You will then need a DAQmx write.vi to output your digital data followed by a DAQmx channel property node. Select Digital Output>>Tristate on the property node and wire a true constant into it. After the property node, you can use a DAQmx read.vi to read the data coming into the digital lines. By using the tristate property node, you can avoid stopping the digital output task and starting an entirely new task.  I am attaching an example program that will demonstrate this.

    Hal L.

  • How do I calculate 'uptime' of a digital output

    Hi everybody,
I'm new to these forums and I am currently evaluating Labview for a series of lab tests where we measure energy balance in a chemical reaction. I've already
I have a USB 6008 wired to a relay drive (thanks to these forums) and a heating element and I want to measure the total time heating element is 'on' during 24 hours to calculate the energy the system is getting. The heating element switches on and off based on the signal of a thermocouple.  Is there an easy way to measure the seconds that the output port wire to the heating element is active? Device-independent would be preferable (like measuring the signal uptime of the input of the digital output of the USB6008)
I tried a lot of options today, like while loops, sequences, case structures following several postings here but all of them failed miserably - while the problem sounds so easy. I could easily do it in the hardware by wiring the output of the relay drive to a bauser timer, but that would be giving up too soon
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Dimitri

    Hi Dimitri,
Welcome to the NI Forums! It's good to hear that you've already received some help here.
Q: Is there an easy way to measure the seconds that the output port wire to the heating element is active?
A: Yes! The method we can use to perform this action depends on the sort of architecture that you're using at the moment, however we can take advantage of the section of your code which defines whether the line should be on or off. When it's on, using a While Loop we can  use a Timestamp to keep track of the current System clock; this Timestamp will update on every loop iteration. If we use a reference Timestamp which is created outside of the While Loop when we first begin to drive the line high, we can simply work out the difference between the current Timestamp and the reference Timestamp to get the total time.
This kind of code will also be device independant because it relies only on the computer it is used on.
    I hope this helps!

  • How do I keep a digital output from SCC DO01 from fluctuating states?

Background: Hooking an ohm-meter across a digital output from a SCC DO01 isolated optical switch shows that the resistance fluctuates and at times goes open circuit. It appears directly related to the LabView code where I'm writing to this digital line within a WHILE loop. The loop has a variety of other operations going on. These other operations, I believe, are causing this problem due to timing or something.
How can I improve the reliability of this digital output? There must be some method of establishing priority within a WHILE loop.
    Really appreciate the help.
    Hunter

    Howdy, Justin
    Thanks for your reply.
I've actually been connecting the meter across Vss and Vout. Actuating the digital output, I can see the state of the switch. Attached is the VI which involves this DO01, specifically, it's associated with the VFD RUN/STOP.
Since I sent this question out, I've actually gotten some help from Andy Watchorn of NI. This switch holds state much better.
    All the best,
    Hunter

  • How to do a digital output triggered by the falling edge of a clock?

    Hello !
I would like to do a digital output (on a given line of a pci 6602 card) triggered by the falling edge of a clock.
More precisely, a pulse train is generated. I have to output each bit of a variable (first, the LSB ; then, the others bits, until the MSB), each bit being transfered on a falling edge of the pulse train. How could I do that, please ?
    Thank you for helping me.

  • Problem with digital output and microph

Hello! I recently bought a new motherboard MSI K8N SLI Platinum that have onboard Sounblaster Li've 24bit, with coaxial and spdif and also the standard outputs. I ve connected via a fiber optical cable to my amplifier and i checked the digital output only box to the advanced settings on the mixer. I am hearing sound very well from my amplifier but when i connect headphones to with microphone to my soundcard , i don't hear anything at all from my headphones. Also i cannot speak via microphone. If i uncheck the box digital output only i hear sound from my headphones and also i can speak to microphone. Is there some way to have them both enabled? In my previous motherboard i didn't have that problem. I could hear sound from my amplifier with pcm signal and from my headphones and microphone analog at the same time.
    Thanks!

    Thibaud,
The clue is here: " i take acquisition with one sample on demand."
You are apparently using software timed output. To maintain accurate phasing at 80 Hz you need timing which is accurate to better than 4 milliseconds. This is not likely to occur with a desktop operating system. Sometimes it will be good and other times OS latencies will throw the timing way off.
If your board supports it, use hardware timing. The timebase sources on most boards are far more precise and accurate than software timing.

  • How to use Digital output to turn on sensor for Analog Input?

I am trying to use a digital output to turn on an array of sensors that I then wish to read on 16 analog input lines. I have a 6024E DAQ card. I am planning to take data at 10-20 hz, so not terribly fast, but I will be acquiring for long periods of time (days) so I will be streaming data to disk.
I have a fair bit of experience in Labview basics, but can quickly get out of my depth when I try something new (like this). I have V6.01.
It looks as though the best way might be to do the DO and then a single AI as individual events, then write to disk and continue through the loop. I am puzzled, however, how to keep this cycle on schedule given that I don't know how long it will take to sample 16 channels
, write the data to disk and get back to the starting point... perhaps this is so fast that I don't need to worry about it? The actual timing of the samples (be it 10 or 20 hz) isn't too critical, as long as I can record at what time they were taken... it would be frustrating to find that I was several seconds off after days of data.

    Hello,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.
If you are worried about the time of your acquisition being off, then you should associate each voltage measurement with a timestamp. This will allow you to know the exact time at which the sample was taken and you will never be off. You can use the Get Date/Time in Seconds.vi in our while loop with your AI code so that you can read a sample and read the time. You can than log the voltage value and the timestamp to your file.

  • PID Control - analog input, digital outputs

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to use the PID toolkit to convert my existing feedback control system to one using PID or just PI whatever works best. Problem is that the tutorials out there discuss in detail about obtaining Analog inputs and using the PID output to control an analog output. Are there any tutorials that show how I can control my process variable which is an analog input by using the PID output to generate digital outputs?
Basically, what I am doing is controlling the incline of my device with two digital outputs that control two solenoid valves. The angle is calculated from a calibration curve that plots distance sensor voltage with Angle. Any help would be immensely apprecitated. I want to try this out on my own before I post some vi's. Thanks!

I may not be perfect, but I'm all I got!

That is exactly what I am doing currently. I have error bands specified around the target to make sure that it doesn't oscillate. But, under load conditions such as pulsed load conditions, the device goes out of bounds and the values trigger to correct for it. But, what I need is seemless or atleast seemless correction. Currently what I see is sudden adjustments to the incline. Please find attached what I am currently using. I am trying to get a more finer solution if at all possible.
Note: Within 5% of the target = NO action
Between 5% and 15% = Pulsed ACtion ( DO On for Pulse width time)
Greater than 15% = continuous action until it reaches Pulse band
I may not be perfect, but I'm all I got!

  • Write digital output on wireless node

    hello
i have wsn kit with 9791 gateway, i need to program node 3202 to write a digital output, i want to know how can i do this in labview ?
do i have to write program ? what library in labview should i chose ? is it using FPGA module in labview ? i really spent alot of time searching for this answer and i am new in labview program
    thank you

    Hi,
In order to use the WSN-3202 with Gateway-9791, you have to install LabVIEW and NI-WSN driver.
You can find the software version support for your WSN at http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/12734#toc0.
After you have install the software, you can configure your WSN using Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and add WSN node to the gateway, it might not looks exactly the same in the picture below because I am not using 9791 as the gateway.
Next, you can open an empty project or your existing object and add your gateway into your project.
After you add the gateway and your node into the project, you can access the DIO at WSN-3202 through the share variable node. You can just drag the DIO from the project explorer into your vi.
