Digital Publishing

We are using InDesign on the Creative Cloud to create an App that we would like to upload via the Folio Builder in Indesign to our Apple account. However, we were also wondering if our client already has an existing "Enterprise Apple Developers" account, would they be able to give us their login information so that we could upload our InDesign App to their Enterprise Apple account? Essentially we want to just use their Apple ID to upload it to their Apple account and make the App available to their employees. Is this allowed or is it possible?
Thank you!

So if we had an Enterprise Adobe account here at our studio and our client had an Enteprise Apple ID for us to use, we could in theory post our App to their Enterprise Apple account? Just wanted to confirm. Thank you very much!

  • How can we use Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite given this scenario

I have a question regarding a very specific scenario as it applies to Adobe Digital Publishing that I am having trouble finding an answer to.
We are a small design firm that produces small-run, proprietary-information, official documents.
Each document is branded to one of our clients, but each document title's design is entirely unique even when done for the same client.
Our clients then selectively distribute these documents to a small number (max 200) of their propective clients (NO GENERAL DISTRIBUTION -- NO APP STORE or iTUNES -- NO CHARGE).
It would be nice that each of our clients could have a branded Adobe Viewer with which their selected prospective clients could view only those documents sent to them (PUSHED); NOT everyone with a client-branded Adobe Viewer would be PUSHED the same document.
And similar to the documents being PUSHED to only specific prospective clients of our clients, that our client could subsequently PULL / delete a document from the prospective client's viewer when the document has expired (besides being promotional documents, they are legal as well, and when expired, need to be withdrawn from readership).
So, how is something like this done?         What Adobe DPS pricing plan applies?
Would it be a Single plan, but for each client branded viewer?  The Professional and Enterprise pricing setup is excessive given our extremely small scale of extremely specific directed distribution for no revenue from that distribution.
Please help me understand, since I cannot find such an answer online.
    Thank you.
    Mark

If I understand you correctly, you would need an Enterprise level account for that.

  • ANN: MEI Portico Version 2.0 for Adobe Digital Publishing Suite Now Available

Jenkintown, PA (November 28, 2012) — Managing Editor Inc. (MEI) today announced MEI Portico™ version 2.0, the latest in the premier Adobe® development partner's lineup of solutions for publishers. The new version of MEI's custom storefront software for tablets was built to empower Adobe Digital Publishing Suite™ customers and is now available for purchase.
MEI Portico lets publishers create custom branded UIs for their mobile and tablet apps on Apple, Google Android, and Amazon Kindle Fire platforms. Custom storefronts enable multiple gateways for showcasing user-targeted tablet content within the app. App administrators can enable search capabilities and organize their DPS folios as they see fit, so that navigation is easy and readers can effortlessly find the issues they want or are entitled to. Portico allows publishers to override in-app purchases for authenticated subscribers, and enables restricted distribution capabilities for corporate and educational institutions using Adobe DPS as part of their digital communications strategy.
MEI Portico 2.0 introduces custom canvases to the original Portico toolbox. Rather than having to rely on templates for their storefront’s landing view, designers can now create their own HTML designs to incorporate into an MEI Portico-driven interface. Using web design skills, designers have full control over every aspect of their app’s look and feel — from storefront layout to images, login pages to RSS or social media feeds, subscriber views to featured folios. And because administrators can launch canvases at a moment’s notice, implementing new features into your app can be completed without a time consuming app update.
"Custom canvases mean that DPS apps can take advantage of Portico’s robust feature set without compromising their brand’s look and feel," said Brett Kizner, MEI's director of new product marketing. "Portico 2.0 has delivered greater flexibility with the ability for our customers to design their own app experience on their app landing page."

  • Digital Publishing Suite not shown in Creative Cloud Desktop app

Our company just purchased/installed Creative Cloud for Teams for several  MAC computers, but only one of them shows Digital Publishing Suite in the CC menu in the taskbar.
The computers are running OS 10.8.5.

Digital Publishing Suite is accessible via an online app at https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com - from there you can downlaod the desktop app which helps you to build the apps and also start to publish. The icon will only appear in the CC menu if you are running the app on that machine... but it's only downloadable from the site.
    Hope that helps.

  • Digital Publishing Suite Help | What's new in this release

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/whats-new-release.html

This v28 marks the end of the immersive feeling a Folio could offer the user. In stead of having a truly full-screen experience, there's always that iOS7 system bar in sight. At least, that's what I understand from this documentation. So there's no way to prevent users to be distracted by anything unrelated in their screen. That's a real pity !
Some might think this is just a trivial change with eventually minor impact, but I think being able to present content over the whole screen is a crucial factor in distinguishing a Folio from other publishing formats like a web page.
Does this requirement also affect other apps like e-readers or games ?

I think it would be better to delete this video and do it all over again in a more fluent way. The guys on stage are hard to follow (low volume), they never heard of "Reflection" (a simple app to put the iPad's screen on the big presentation display through AirPlay), and the previewing is cumbersome (could be up and running within 2 seconds in stead of 5 minutes).

  • How difficult is it to digitally publish a newsletter if one knows Indesign and Dreamweaver well?

I have been asked to quote the cost of turning a newsletter produced in Indesign into a digital format for iPad and Android tablet using the Digital Publishing Suite professional edition. I have never used it but I'm very versed in Indesign and also Dreamweaver so my question is directed more towards learning curve.
From what I can tell, previous newsletters had mostly static content accessible via and index page. Some page titles were animated and there was embedded video.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest you take a few minutes to learn the DPS basics so that you can estimate the amount of work required. Watch a few videos, and download the free DPS Tips app.

  • Facing pages when Digital Publishing

I used document setup to change a document's intent to Digital Publishing - the master still shows facing pages, which I think is not supposed to show when intent is set to digital publishing.
Anybody seen this? Have a workaround. It's not a show-stopper, but I prefer not to have hanging chads when I go to publish.
P.S. great job with the live demo today Colin and Bob.

    Sorry for the delay.
In such scenario you have to provide a dummy MSO with 2 empty states for every page. You can use master pages to make your work faster. For every MSO you set a slideshow with "swipe to change image" checked. This will prevent from swiping to next or previous article.
In the article properties leave the "horizontal scroll only" option unchecked, to allow vertical scrolling within your articles. Also set smooth scrolling to "Off (Snap to Page"). You have to provide buttons with actions "Go to URL" on every page. I would suggest using "navto://relative" format, as described here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/hyperlink-overlays.html#relative_navt o_links
All that said, I am rather skeptical of using button navigation throughout the app. Swipe is far more natural on tablets, and it doesn't constrain your other interactivity on the page as much as dummy MSO. I use this solution mainly when I want to direct my readers to some specific place in the app, or to provide them with a multiple choice, instead of letting them just continue linear reading.
    Regards,
    Tomek

  • How to digitally publish the finished magazine online?

Does InDesign have a way to digitally publish the finished magazine to something like Flipboard? I do not like the interactive PDF because the user has to download the whole file which is huge. Digital Publishing Suite is too costly and does not do desktop. What are my options? I do not want flash either.

You could try to create your interactive magazine with eDocker.
With new eDocker CREATE! you can add most of the interactive features already in InDesign (hyperlinks, popup-images, slideshows from multistate objects, videos -MP4 or youTube - popups with html-content and text reading mode windows)
After you have done it, you can export your project as HTML5 for computer and iPad users. You can distribute the project with your own server as so called web-app or use eDocker PUBLISH! which is brand new distribution service released few days ago.
eDocker CREATE! is free to try, and after that 99€ (apprx. $130/month). No need to commit for long periods, you can subscribe it for one month only if that´s what you need.
eDocker Publish is free for first 30 days, after that you have to choose EASY (9,90€/mo) or BUSINESS (99€/mo) plans. Those are monthly based plans as well.

  • Problems with the digital publishing tools

I downloaded the digital publishing tools but got an error when trying the preview button. I followed the instructions from adobe on clearing the indesign prefs, turning the extension on and off with the extension manager, an now none of the digital publishing tools operate. any ideas?

Moving this discussion to the Digital Publishing Suite forum.

No. You need enterprise edition to create a custom storefront.

  • InDesign does not recognize Digital Publishing.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in

When I try to open a specific file, or just launch the program, InDesign will open a few seconds, freeze, and then crash. The first few times, I got the message:
    Startup Alert
Adobe InDesign does not recognize Digital Publishing.InDesignPlgin as a valid plug-in. Please reinstall the Digital Publishing.InDesignPlugin plug-in and restart InDesign.
    Show this alert again? Y/N?
I've tried searching for what this plug-in is, or searching other forums for a similar problem. No luck. I tried uninstalling InDesign CC and reinstalling. No luck. I tried downloading and installing something called "AdobeDigitalPublishingPatch-CC-27.0.0.dmg." No luck.
Let me know if you know how I might fix this. Like I said, I am running InDesign CC on Mac OS X (version 10.8.4).

    Hey Hank,
I tried both deleting my preferences the way you suggested, as well as doing another uninstall, and checking "Remove Preferences"... and neither worked. InDesign is still opening, freezing, and then crashing.
I even found the Digital Publishing plugin, and tried removing it from the Plugsin folder. That made the error message go away (which started reappearing after I reinstalled), but it didn't do anything related opening or creating a file.
    Sigh.
    Any other ideas?
