Digital Signature box issues

I have extended rights to users, but digital signature box will not work in Adobe Reader. What am I doing wrong?

Hi NMcneil123,
What do yo mean by "will not work"? Do the people who try to sign your PDF file receive errors? Please describe the exact issue so we can figure out where the problem lies.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Best,
Sara

• Help - Digital Signature Field Issue

Hi,
I encountered some issues when designing a workflow process that needs digital signature
Intro:
1. Initiator signed on Signature field A
2. Manager reviewed the form & signed on Signature field B
Issue 1:
The initiator signed the form on Signature field A, and then the signature icon (a pen with questionmark "?") appears on top of signature. From the tooltip it's not verified yet.
Hence, initiator right clicked it and verified it. The icon changed to a green tick with exclamation mark and right after that it changed back to the previous icon again(a pen with questionmark "?").
How to remain "verified" status?
Issue 2:
The form is still then passed to Manager after initiator submitted. The Manager now suppose to sign the form on Signature field B but error message prompted out when trying to sign!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Message box:
The document could not be signed.
There was an error when attempting to commit this signature.
The document was not saved.
A file error has occurred.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone faced this before? Any ideas?

Hi all,
For your information:
1. The form .xdp is designed by using Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.1.
2. Form Manager is being utilized for this workflow.
3. The workflow contains 1 form only. It needs to be signed by both initiator and the manager on different signature fields.
4. I'm using Document Variable to pass the form.
Added Information for issues mentioned:
Issue 1
The initiator signed the form on Signature field A, and then the signature icon (a pen with questionmark "?") appears on top of signature. From the tooltip it's not verified yet.
Hence, initiator right clicked it and verified it. The icon changed to a green tick with exclamation mark and right after that it changed back to the previous icon again(a pen with questionmark "?").
How to remain "verified" status?
The case is whenever it's been verified(by right click and verified it), it will become verified for not more than 1 second and immediately it changed back to "is not verified", no matter how many times the initiator tried to verify the signature.)
--------------------------------------------------------------
When the manager got the signing error, he then cleared the initiator's signature(right click and clear) , and then he is able to sign on both signature fields! And both signature are not verified (with the signature icon-a pen with questionmark"?").
I don't why the manager can sign now.
Quote Will's
"Secondly, when a form with a signature is signed a second time the first signature will indicate that something has changed on the Form - specifically the second signature field.-by Will"
but now the form with a signatuer cannot even be signed for second time. As the error message prompt whenever the manager tries to sign on the signature field B.

• Digital Signature validation issue in Adapter Module

Hi guys,
we have developed an adapter module for digital signature validation, unfortunately, it simetimes work, sometimes doesnt. Strange is, that the same adapter module works for one customer, while for another one doesn't.
We have sent through some "invalid" messages, which should have been valid at the client, where the module works and theu were flagged as valid. It seems the problem is caused by "special" spanish characters, because validation works for the messages where are only standard chars.
Any idea, what to check? Java version, system encoding?
Any help appreciated,
Olian

Hi,
Not really sure about what causes such issues, but if your module coding uses String and byte[] manipulation, are you using explicite encoding when declaring such types ? I remember facing strange issues with XML field values, and "forcing" encoding to "UTF-8" when appropriate, it solved all my errors (string typed object, when converted internally by the JVM, were not always represented by the same bytes object)
Hope this helps

• Digital Signature Validation Issue

Hi All,
I have a problem with my digital signature fields. Whenever the user digitally signs the form, there is a message that says that the form is "Signed and all signatures are valid, but with unsigned changes after the last signature". When I open the signature panel (in Adobe Reader or in the Preview PDF tab of Livecycle) the form indicates that a bunch of fields located on the Master Page were deleted and then added (see below). Does anyone know what is causing this or how to fix it?

I'm having the same issue as well. In addition to the additions/deletions to the master pages, the signature panel indicates that a field on the title page of my form was filled in after validation. I ran a temporary script on the signature field's postSign event, using Acrobat's signatureGetModifications() method, to narrow down where the updates are occurring, and it seems that they're taking place either at the same time the signature is validated or just after. The form is set to automatically preserve scripting changes when it is saved; switching to "manual" doesn't help. Turning field locking on/off doesn't work, either. Once the form has been saved and reopened, though, the problem disappears and the signature validates correctly.
UPDATE 30 DEC 14: The master pages that are being "modified" have separate content areas for navigation buttons; it's these CAs, and their associated subforms and buttons, that Acrobat reports as being modified. I tried commenting out the scripts on the buttons' click events without success.
UPDATE 15 APR 15: I've compared the preSign version of the XML for the field that's being modified with the postSign version and found that the XML is somehow being modified by the act of signing the document. To clarify: I need to fill in a date field on my form to indicate when the form is closed out. I have the signature field's preSign set up to add the current date to the date field. The preSign XML includes <value> and <date> tags, which are missing from the postSign version. Why would applying a signature modify the form's XML?

• Digital Signature plugin issue.

Hi All, I have written a Plugins for digital signature , I got two  problems i) My plugin callback functions is not getting called when i  tried to sign the document ,  i have used PubsecHandler and register it.  It means default plugin is being called by acrobat. ii) Since I am  using Acrobat xi , plugin doesn't support  SHA1 hash algorithm, which  my  smartcard support. So Any body help me to find  out i)why my  implemented callback routines are not being called  ii) Is there any way  so that  I acrobat xi supports SHA1 hash algorithm.

I think you misunderstand my problem, I simply wants, my plugins call back function should be called from acrobat while signing the document rather than default digsig function.
The default digsig call back function calls the microsoft cryptographic APIs to get the certificate, signing the doc or verification of signature rather than my cryptographic APIs (which is card specific). e
I'm able to see Register/UnRegister() call when a PDF document is opened/closed and confirm that my plugin is loaded. However when I click on sign button there are no calls in my plugin. All my PubSec API's are successfully exported.
Am I missing any basic requirement in my plugin that shall enable for signing. Any help in this regard is much useful.

• Acrobat 11 Standard digital signature box hangs for 60 seconds on first run

I have a user that has a problem when going to sign a document. After a reboot attemt to sign and when the box pops up to actually sign something it just hangs with the fields all grayed out for about a minute. Subsequent attempts there seems to be no issue only the first time. This behavior started a few weeks ago. I have another user without the problem. Any ideas what could be causing it to take so long the first time? Very frustrating for the user.

Is this Windows or Mac, which OS version? Which Acrobat XI version (including minor)? Does this happen after each reboot (you said that already but, please, confirm? Does this happen if before signing the first time after reboot you open an already signed PDF? Does opening of a signed PDF after a reboot before you try to sign happens in acceptable time or is also slow?

• Digital Signatures for Changing the statuses in Issue Mgmt

Hi
Has anyone put in place digital signatures for Issue
Managemnt when we change the status values in an issue.
We are looking at SAP Note 835584 - Digital signature for documents,
but that is not applicable for us as we want to initiate the digital
signature when the status profile "SLFI0001" kicks in and the status is
changed from one to the other.(eg in process to completed etc)
We have created the digital signature and the strategies, but are
looking for a place to attach this with the status profile "SLFI0001".
Is there a place we can attach the digital signature strategies to this
status profile?
Anyone has any ideas on how it can be done?
Thanks in advance..
sap ques..

We have a document that needs to be signed by more than one individual -- and in our process we are using the Topacz signature pad to get the signature.  It's similar to the one you sign at the grocery store, drug store, etc.  In order to NOT have the first signature invalidated, we were told to edit the registry...and it works perfectly!
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\AVAlert\cCheckbox]
"iDigSigSaveAsCertified"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\AVAlert\cCheckbox\cAnnots]
"iReaderEnableSaveWarn"=dword:00000001
Obviously if you are using a different version of Acrobat, you'll have to change the key accordingly.
Hopefully this will work with your process.
Good luck!!

• Completing the Digital Signature

We've implemented digital signatures from several of our DMS doc types.  Essentially we have a couple of statuses that are set with a Signature Strategy, and when the user sets them and hits "save", they get a message at the bottom of their screen that indicates that they must enter a digital signature.  If they hit "enter" at that point, a dialog pops up which allows them to enter a comment and their password (the e-signature.)  Clicking the "check mark" closes the dialog and comletes the Digital Signature process.
The "issue" is, that it is not always clear for some of our users what should be done at various steps of the process.  To their way of thinking, after they hit save the digital signature box should pop up immediately (no message at the bottom of the screen, no need to hit enter.)
Is there a way to streamline this process at all, so that hitting save immediately elicits the Comment/Signature box?
Regards,
Bill

Hi Bill,
I'm sorry but this behavior means the current standard and as far as I know the pop-up should not be opened directly when
the user hits the save button. So in case this message appears in the status line the user has just to press ENTER again to see the digital signature pop-up.
Best regards,
Christoph

• Digital signature will not work in Reader

I need help I have been working on a new form I want to have digatally signed.  I add the digital signature box, in the test pdf it pulls in my digital certificates and works.  Once I save the form and try opening it with adobe reader 9 nothing happens when I click the signature block.  On the other hand when it is opened in adobe pro the signatures work.  I am saving the file as static and tried several combinations of options and nothing seems to work.  Can anybody give me some easy to follow instructions?  I am using version 8.  I appreciate any help.

I am having the same problem with signatures.  I am including a form in a pdf portfolio to collect signatures from different users who have Reader.  I make sure that features have been extended for reader. Most of the time they are okay.  But every once in a while (at least one every two weeks) I get a user telling me they can't sign.  No message or error of any kind, just a quick blink but no signature.  As a work-around I've had to save a copy and re-extend features.  This can be time consuming when there are a few documents I need to circulate.  Please advise.

• Digital Signature prevents submit via email and print

A form works perfectly well until I insert a digital signature into a digital signature box.  So if the digital signature box is empty the buttons still work but sign the wrecked thing and nothing works anymore.  I have created new signatures but nothing seems to work.  Can you shed any light on this?

The problem is that the "Lock Fields After Signing" property is enabled (see attached screen shot).  Buttons are considered fields, therefore when the signature is applied, the buttons are locked and can no longer be clicked.  To fix this you can disable the property, or better yet create a field collection and select the specific fields that you want to lock if a signature is applied.

• Issue with multiple digital signatures disabling fast web view

Hello, I'm using acrobat 9.1 pro and have some questions regarding an issue using multiple signatures on a pdf.
Why am I asking the question below? My job involves preparing pdf's for submission to FDA. The FDA requires, among other things, that electronically submitted docs have fast web view enabled.
I am currently exploring ways of using digital signatures to sign pdf reports and still make sure they are FDA spec compliant. My issue involves a document that would have multiple signature fields. What I do is create at least two signature fields in the doc and then save and optimize while enabling fast web view. When I sign the first box and save, the file retains the fast web view status. Yet, when I apply and signatures past the first one, the file is subsequently set to fast web view off without any obvious way of turning it back on. I am confused as to why it gets disabled only after the second, and not right after even the first one was signed. And, of course, I would like to know if it is possible to maintain fast web view and how to do it. I'll gladly accept "tinkering under the hood" of the file suggestions if they exist as well.
Please let me know if anything is unclear or you need further information.
Thanks for your time and help.
~Vlad

Hi Vlad,
Michael actual had the correct answer. The purpose of a "Linearized" file (i.e. a file that has been Optimized for Fast Web View) is to get the first page to display as soon as possible so you can start reading without waiting for the rest of the file to download. As an aside, the designated first page doesn't necessarily have to be page 0 (PDF's use a zero based counting system for pages), but usually it is. To quote the PDF specification, "The primary focus of Linearized PDF is optimized viewing of read-only PDF documents. It is intended that the Linearized PDF be generated once and read many times. Incremental update is still permitted, but the resulting PDF is no longer linearized and subsequently is treated as ordinary PDF."
When you sign a PDF file the first time the Save process is a "full save", that is the entire document is rewritten so there are no more than two %%EOF (end-of-file) markers in it. The first EOF designates which page to show first and the second EOF designates the end of the rest of the file (so the browser knows when to stop downloading). However, when you add a second (or subsequent) signature the file is saved as an "incremental save" and all of the new data is tacked onto the the end of the original file. This is so you can do a rollback to the previous signed version and allows Acrobat/Reader to check the integrity of each signature independent of any other signatures. It's the incremental save that breaks the linearized optimization of the file.

• Issue with digital signature

I am having a issue with digital signature in Adobe 7.
I was able to sign the document, but my name does not appear on the signature block.  I am using a certificate that is assigned to me, but my name never appears in the “signed by” field.  I did notice that the certificate is assignedto my email address not my name; Could that be what is causing this issue?
Thanks

Thanks for the quick response.
I have tried that I click on the box to show "name", but it still never shows the name......

• Form Size issue with multiple Digital Signatures

I have created a form (liveCycle 8) with multiple digital signatures required.  When each user signs the form, that section of the form is locked using collections.  The form is workflow through email after each user signs it.  Each time the user signs and forwards the form, the form's size becomes too large.
How can the form be optimized to compress each time an users signs the form?
Thank you,
Lori

Steve,
After your request to post the form, I wanted to removal some company items like the Logo.  Once I removed the Logo, I found the biggest issue was a Logo image size that was making the file so large.  Once I reduced the image size, the signatures only added 46kb at each signature level.
Thank you for your help,
Lori
