Directing iTunes to read from different location
Right now, in restoring iTunes to my new computer, iTunes is accessing the playlist from the following mapping - where "E" is an external hard drive disk:
E\Angela itunes\itunes\itunes Music\Artist\CD Name\Track Number
Is there a way to have iTunes change where it looks from "E" to "C" - and also if I just copy the the "library" file from "E" to "C" and change the mapping will I be in the same place as I was with the old computer?
What file (which right now is in "E") is the library - the playlist?
Assuming you use the iTunes default settings where iTunes copied added items to your iTunes folder and organizes your library (meaning - everything is all self contained in the iTunes folder), then all you have to do is drag & drop your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes Music folder you find inside the iTunes folder) to the external drive and copy the entire thing.
If you want to test that it worked or would like to actually start using it from that location instead, use these instructions when you start iTunes to point it to the new location...
How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
If you are just testing, then close iTunes after you verify it works, and restart iTunes again with the same instructions and point it back to your internal drive (original) location.
At this point your can plug the external into the new computer. If you want to run the library off the external then open iTunes with the above instructions and point to the external. If you want to move it to the new computer's internal drive, then copy the entire folder again off the external onto the internal then again start iTunes with the above instructions and point it to the existing library you just moved.
Cheers,
Patrick

How to access Excel files from different locations?
Hello,
I have successfully tested the Excel sample on WLS 7, and trying to run it on
the WLS 8.1.
Anyways, the common question for both is, how to access an excel files from different
locations (e.g. c:\path\1.xls, \\domain1\finance\fin.xls, \\domain1\marketing\customer.xls,
\\domain2\accounts\vouchers.xls)?
From example i can see that it picks from a specific path under repository.
Thanks
Ashok GuptaThe custom function sets the MS-Excel default directory to System.getProperty("user.dir")+"/excel"
(the domain directory), then opens the filename passed as a parameter. I assume
that if you pass in the fully specified path for the excel file ( like d:\MyDir\data\test.xls),
that it would open that file.

i forgot to update the status, sorry!
Opened a support incident; the upgrade procedure was not fine for saptools database because it was not able to enlarge automatically. Increased the size manually and restart the database.
Upgrade was terminated fine and error in log file disappeared.

How to pick different files from different locations
suppose ur having multiple files(csv) from different locations, then how do u move those files to the SAP system. Please expalin me the scenario
Venu,
If the files are present in different folders, then you need different sender communication channels to bring this data to XI. Regarding connection with SAP, you can go for a proxy (If the webAs version is > 6.2) or else go for an IDOCor RFC adapter.

Win-7 64bit: moving iTunes media folder from default location to D drive
Dear all,
I cannot move iTunes media folder from default location on C drive to D drive on win-7 64 bit.
What I did was:
- Under iTunes> Edit > Preferences > Advanced I choosed new location for iTunes media folder on D drive
- Under iTunes > Library > Organize library > I choose consolidate fiels and then ok ( this should create a new library on new location )
Next I delete iTunes media folder on C drive and hope that on re-start iTunes goes to new location on D drive and picks new file arrangement.
But it does not happen - no matter what I do iTunes goes to its default location on C drive ....
I called apple senior advisor - and she told me that it's kind of "my fault" I have windows7 installed on PC and because iTunes is Mac oriented they will not give me support... And referred me to Microsoft ... What a lousy support!. I paid for it $25!! What for?By the way, I followed instructions as per link http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364 - it did not work either. Can anyone share their success stories ? My C drive is not big and my music library ~ 100gB - I really need to keep iTunes media files in another location ... not a default place under User Login

How do I get iTunes to read from my external drive?
Ok, before you post this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748 please read this. That link only seems to give advice if you have your music on your computer's hard drive and you want to transfer it all to another drive. My problem is that all of my music is currently on an external drive. There is nothing to transfer or consolidate from my computer. I've gone into the preferences and set the iTunes music folder to the location on my external drive. The part about consolidating doesn't seem applicable in my case. So now that I've set the location of my iTunes music folder why isn't anything showing up in my iTunes library? Why can't I play any music?
So have any of this "external" music ever been added to iTunes? If not, go to File>Add to Library. Then navigate to the external hard-drive folder that contains the music.

BPM 11g setting up Oraganization Roles from different locations
Hi,
Our BPM process has 2 Roles Requester and Reviewer. We have Requesters in US, ASIA and CANADA, the same with Reviewers also. So Requester from US creates the task and submits the task. This task should go to Reviewer from US. How can we achieve this? And also, the Requestors/Reviewers in one location should not be able to view tasks created by Requestors/Reviewers from a different location.
Appreciate your inputs.
MCKeep the users of different regions in different Groups. Like Requesters_APJ, Requesters_EMEA and Approvers_APJ, Approvers_EMEA.
Add a script activity to "somehow" figure out the region of the "Requester" user. Based on this, dynamically change the assignee of the next task i.e. the Requester task to the Approver group for that region.
Good practice -> At design time, avoid mapping swimlanes to Users, Roles or Groups. Do this after deploying the process/workflow from the EM console. Another way is to do the dynamic assignment as I mentioned.
Hope this helps. -
Loading "font.properties" from different location
Is it possible to tell the JVM to load "font.properties" files from a different location instead of "$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib"?
Thanks in advance.

Why Does iTunes Continuously Read From the Hard-drive?
Hi. I have recently discovered an odd behaviour from iTunes: instead of reading an entire song from the harddrive and storing it in ram during playback, iTunes reads small chunks of data very frequently. For example, when playing a 128Kbps song the HD reads 68KB chunks approximately every 3 seconds, and when playing lossless WAVE files the HD is constantly reading at 200KB/s. I found this out by having iTunes open and playing music while having all other programs closed, and monitoring the disk activity from Activity Monitor (and I'm sure that it's iTunes that was reading from the HD because when the music was paused the HD was idle).
So, my question is why would iTunes do this? This seems like an extremely inefficient use of the harddrive for several reasons:
- Constantly reading small chunks from the HD uses much more power than reading large chunks infrequently because idle hard-drives use much less power than active hard-drives
- This will slow down other applications that need to make heavy use of the HD because iTunes will be constantly interrupting anything else that is using the disk (this is especially true for Photoshop or any other program that uses lots of swapfile space)
- It puts unnecessary wear on the HD heads
- It is dangerous for laptops, which can easily get thrown around or bumped. Momentarily reading a large chunk of data and leaving the HD idle for the majority of the time will be much safer for the HD heads
- Hard-drive-based portable music players read large chunks of data infrequently because it is well-known that this saves power and protects the HD in these devices.
So... is there any reason that iTunes is exempt from these reasons??
-EricI too have wondered about this. You'd think with 1.5GB RAM that itunes would take 3MB of it and leave my drive alone for a few minutes. I don't really feel comfortable doing drive intensive activities such as file copying while itunes is running.

Multiple jar files from different locations
Hello,
I am having an applet that access code from two different jar files. Of them one is a common jar file for many applets. So I couldn't place it in the local dir as that of the applet's html. I am not using any web server.
Just to give you a feel of it :
<PARAM NAME = archive VALUE = "DVApplet.jar,DVVP.jar" > are the jar files my applet is dependant on. But DVVP.jar has to be accessed from a dir different from local dir.
Will be glad if someone can throw some light on accessing different jar files from different dirs.
Thanks for your time.

You can use a class loader to do such things. -
Itunes cannot read from or write to disk
So I just got this new notebook, and I moved all my itunes files over and tried to sync my ipod touch. It didn't work out so well... I got an error message saying that the disk could not be found, it begins to sync and then I got an additional message saying that the ipod could not be read from or written to.
Pack the old ipod up and send it back, soon or they will charge you $119 on your Credit Card. Sounds like there may be a possibility that your ipod shuffle may not be communicating with your USB ports properly. Try running the ipod updater software and try restoring the ipod. If that does not work, test your shuffle on another computer to see if it may not be an issue with the USB port. I know the 20GB works fine...But it still just may not communicate properly for some reason. As for updating the shuffle, I create a playlist in my itunes and when I plug in my shuffle, it gives me an option to autofill. I just select the playlist I want loaded to my ipod and hit autofill...Which works just fine for me.

How do you direct EXS24 to read from External drive?
my logic pro EXS24 is not reading from My external drive. How do i create a path??
Hi Nastushka
Glad you liked the website, it's my intention to keep updating over time and I hope people continue to find it useful. I was very lucky when I started out that lots of very smart people helped me out, so it's nice to continue the tradition.
In answer to your question.
To the best of my knowledge there's no way to have the actual .exs files on an external drive and have Logic still see them. My understanding is that Logic performs a number of "scans" on start up, during this process it checks a number of preset locations and then adds the files it finds to your available tools.
The good news is that the .exs files are relatively small, so they shouldn't eat in to your hard drive space too much. It's the audio ( wav or aiff ) that takes up all the space.
For example I have Pure E-Basses on my laptop ( from which I'm typing ) and the whole folder of .exs files is 6.5meg the related samples folder is 2.52gig.
Ok, moving into speculative mode, _I haven't tried this myself_, if you absolutely must have the .exs files on an external drive I can think of no logical reason this couldn't be achieved with the judicious use of an Alias. So you'd create an Alias of the .exs files and put these in the correct location for Logic to scan and point these Aliases to the original files on your external HD.
Unfortunately I'm not in a position to test this at the moment.
Maybe somebody could chip in if they've tried it ?
I'd also suggest that if you don't have enough room on you internal HD for the .exs files you may have bigger problems down the line. All HDs ( in my experience ) need a reasonable percentage of free space to work at their best.
I'll copy this into the other thread, it may be sensible to continue this discussion in one thread from now on.

Monitoting services from different location then I have SCOM 2012 R2
Hello
I am interested in the ability to monitor services (particularly
in the Exchange OWA) from a different
location than I have placed SCOM
server. I environment of
different networks and branches. I don´t want to pay for
GSM (Global Service Monitor)I there some kind of "probe" or
simplified SCOM? I do not have
the opportunity to take in every branch of
such a great performance on SCOM, connnectivity speed between branches is not problem.
thanks a lotThomas,
there is no need for a fileshare. You could let the ps1 below run natively in a SCOM PowerShell worklow and it will provide the data in so called property bags:
param(
$monitorComputer,
$monitorURL
Invoke-Command -ComputerName $monitorComputer -ArgumentList $monitorURL {
$result = Invoke-WebRequest -URI $monitorURL
Return $result
# Return the values from CMDLET
$bag.AddValue("Workflow Computer",(hostname))
$bag.AddValue("Monitoring Computer",$monitorComputer)
$bag.AddValue("Monitor URL",$monitorURL)
$bag.AddValue("Status Code",$result.StatusCode)
$bag.AddValue("Status Description",$result.StatusDescription)
$bag
You could now create your own MP running a PowerShell monitor.
Or you can implement the following solution to being able to use the wizard:
