Directory monitoring - unreadable directory?

Hi,
this may be related to my previous question.
I want to use directory monitor to watch /var/core on all systems.
I set up an Instance to do this in the appropriate module, but
in fact it's not working because /var/core is unreadable under normal circumstances:
# ls -la /var/core/
total 13
drwx------ 2 root root 2 Feb 21 10:19 .
drwxr-xr-x 42 root sys 42 Feb 22 10:08 ..
Without changing any permissions or ownership on /var/core, what is the procedure to allow SMC to watch this
directory and read into it?
Sorry for all the questions. We are doing a major deployment of SMC and relying on it for critical
systems and need to come up to speed quickly - we are working through many of our issues and
this forum has been extremely helpful.

from a probe?Ah... although SunMC runs as root... so it can monitor that directory properly and send alarms (as you have seen)... many of the probe commands are configured to run as "nobody". As a security feature lots of the probes that show directory/file listings don't run as root... so you can't go poking around and see things you're not supposed to as a SunMC admin.
It probably wouldn't be hard to change that behavior (likely a single-line change in the Directory Monitor config file)... but be aware it would allow anybody in the SunMC "esadm" group to look at the contents of every directory on that Agent (i.e. you couldn't easily allow people to only look in /var/core... it would apply to any directory you were monitoring).

Hi,
Why do you want to use LDAP for Hard disk monitoring..???
U can do this by creating a MD5 checksum for all the files existing in some
perticular
directory and every hour or any configurable period u can recalculate the
checksum
to find out the change in the content.
I guess all u need is to get the code for "updatedb" utility of Linux and
instrument it for ur needs..

Directory monitor in Java, help

Hey everyone,
I'm attempting to write a directory monitor in java but I'm stuck. I'm trying to find something in Java that is like FileSystemWatcher in .NET but I don't think java does. From what I read is that you have to continually poll the directory for changes. What I would like to know is that are there any events and/or signals raised when a changes are made so that one could catch and process them? If not, could someone explain how to simply poll the directory for changes?

I don't think modifying the contents of an existing directory cause that directory's mod time to be updated. If you want to know when a file has changed, you'll probably have to poll that file's mod time explicitly.
In light of the above, I suggest you start by writing a small program that does nothing but poll a directory every, say, 5 or 10 or 30 seconds and print out whether it's changed or not. Then, while that program is running, do various things like add, delete, rename, rename with same letters but different case, etc. and see if the program gives you the results you want. If not, you'll have to tweak it based on your findings.

Copy file from directory to another directory

I need to copy a file from a directory to another directory, but that file is longer than 2M.
I put the data into a array of bytes and then i passed to a destination directory.
Now i'm using a BufferedOutputStream but, as i have a file whith 2M, and this dont work.
How can i resolve this problem.

I use This, and it works with all kinds of files. I use it for backups with thousands of files and subdirectories.
you can use this like "copyFiles("D:\\Source", "D:\\Destination")
The two directories in the parameter list must exist. Subdirectories will be generated from the method.

Retreiving the file names from directory inside another directory from application server

Hi,
I had a problem in retreiving the file names from a directory inside another directory.
I tried using the FM's SUBST_GET_FILE_LIST, RZL_READ_DIR_LOCAL and EPS_GET_DIRECTORY_LISTING
But here I am getting only one directory details.
Actually my file is located a directory inside one more directory and one more directory and inside the files are located.
i.e total 3 directories inside the 3rd one my files are there.
I need to read the latest file name in the directory.
So that i can do some manipulation after getting the file name.
Is there option like OPEN DATASET , READ DATASET and CLOSE DATASET?
Can anyone please let me know How can i acheive this one.

I was suggesting to use java to send commands to the system shell so to speak....
I don't know of a way to do this... under the File class you can delete files, but there is no provision to copy Files so to speak....
one way would to be to open the file you want to copy with a file reader, and then write it all out to your new file.

10.6 home directory mounting with active directory and open directory integration

Hi guys i am having some issues in my new mac environment. I have a windows network with an server 2008 active directory. I have just recentlly created a "magic triangle" setup with active directory and open directory. When my users login via windows their home folders mount perfect. When any user logs in to any iMac in the building it does not work. They login perfectly fine, but their home folders do not mount. When i try mounting them manually with smb, i get a prompt for credentials. I am thinking this is my issue, my Single sign on with kerbos is working but for some reason is not logging in correctly. If i type in my credentials with my domain first then my name it works.
For example DOMAIN\jsmith works, but the way i think the mac and active directory is doing it now is just jsmith without the DOMAIN.
I feel like this is the problem with the home folders not mounting.
Can anyone provide some help with this?

are you using the fully qualified domain name of the network server? ie if your server is bob. and your domain is domain.company.com. then the FQDNS would typically be bob.domain.company.com or bob.company.com.
If the FQDNS works, then have you checked in the AD to make sure the path to the network home folder uses the FQDNS?
For the contact search path, did you put the AD at the top the list? (in directory utility)
Did you set the WINS work group on your client computer to your domain?
ie:Apple Menu, System Preferences, Network, Active Network Port (ethernet and or airport) , Advanced Button, WINS Tab, set workgroup to the name of your domain. ie domain.company.com and or company.com

Upload image in PA30 for a pernr getting error 'Either no file exists in the directory or the directory cannot be found'

I have uploaded image in AL11 and trying to link to thorough OA_UPLOAD_AND_LINK program. But when crosschecked it is existing there.
passed values in selection screen link below= >
while doing it an error is coming 'Either no file exists in the directory or the directory cannot be found'.
Directory is identified by program but file does not.
Any solution?
P.S. files are uploaded and saved in JPG format

Try to clear the flag "Processing in Front End", in this way the program will search for the file on application server and not from the front end.
Or select a file directly from your computer.

GRC CUP how to pull manager from Global directory or Active directory

Hi,
how can i pull manager from global directory or active directory as approver.We are designing dual control approval process.First manager from global directory can approve then role owner.In workflow stages i can only see approvers information has to be entered manaually in CAD.Also i am looking when requestor requesting request,it should automatically fetch manager information on the request page,once user id selected.

Dear Mushu,
Two things you need to do
1.) Maintain the Manager's Field in Active Directory and do mapping in CUP>Configuration>Field Mapping-->LDAP Mapping
2.) Keep LDAP as authentication system so that whenever a User has to log into the CUP he will do using his network id and his manager is automatically pulled from Active Directory.
Then in the workflow you can keep the approver determinator as Manager by which the request will routed to the appropriate manager. Hope that helps.

HFS+ is case insensitive. So it is working as it is supposed to work.
There is a Case Sensitive version of HFS+ which you can use to format your disk. Be aware that use of this version is known to cause problems and is only recommended when it is absolutely required.

This is fun BTW. Two days and two different silly errors applying themselves arbitrarily. Yesterday was the network, today its this.

heres the fix i used for on a Mac
1. While in the Finder, select the menu command Finder > Preferences.
2. In the General panel, ensure the option "Connected Servers" is selected under the heading "Show these items on the desktop:", then close the preferences dialog box.
3. Choose the menu command Finder > Hide Others.
4. Close all open Finder windows to ensure you can see all items on your desktop.
5. If you locate what appears to be a mounted volume with the name "Users", Control + Click on its icon and choose the contextual menu command Eject "Users".
6. Add or update your article(s).
7. Cross fingers
8. If doesn't work ask for a refund

What is the difference between physical directory and logical directory in BPEL

Physical : We need to Specify the complete directory.
Example: <Drive name>:\Temp\data
Logical: We need to specify a logical name for directory. It is defined as a property in the 'bpel.xml' file.
Example: if you specify 'READ' as the logical name, the following property is added to the bpel.xml file: <property name="READ"></property>
After this, u must have define the directory path.
For example, <Drive name>:\Temp\data for the file adapter: <property name="MyDirectory"><Drive name>:\Temp\data </property>

i need to upload my files from one directory into other directory.( all its contents,folders,sub folders, files etc)
for this task
suppose my source folder is C:/test/test1/test2/test3
and my destination is D:/
first i have to check whether my dest dirctory already contains source directory..and its files
if it contains the same structure then i have to replace the destination dir structure to source dir structure( to upadte changes)
if it(dest dir) not contains source dir ..means it doesn't contain source folder then
i have to create same source folder directory structure ( test.test1/test2/test3...) at destination(D:/) and copy all its contents frm source directory...
( means i don;t want to create manually same dir structure as source at destnation dir to copy all contents)

I believe you need to read up on the class File.java (it comes with java).
Some examples:
File file = new File("C:/myDirectory");
if(file.isDirectory())
System.out.println("this is a directory");
if(file.isFile())
System.out.println("this is a file").
You will then need to read up on other classes to read/write to the file such as FileReader and FileWriter.
