Directory Service is Busy
I am trying to rename a Windows Server 2012 server. After I enter the Active Directory credentials it fails with this error:
The following error occurred attempting to rename the computer to "new-name":
The directory service is busy.
I don't see anything in the event logs on the domain controller or on the server I am trying to rename.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Jason
I was also facing the same issue and resolved it by removing the SPN name for SQLServer.
Below are the steps I used to fix this issue :-
Open Command Prompt with Run as Admin with account having admin permission in that domain.
Type "setspn -l ServerName" and see the result. I got below result :-
C:\Windows\system32>setspn -l
ServerName
Registered ServicePrincipalNames for
CN=ServerName,OU=XYZXYZ,OU=EDGE,OU=PRODUCTION,DC=phx,DC=gbl:
MSSQLSvc/ServerName.phx.gbl:SQLEXPRESS
MSSQLSvc/ServerName.phx.gbl:64723
HOST/ServerName.phx.gbl
RestrictedKrbHost/ServerName.phx.gbl
TERMSRV/ServerName.phx.gbl
WSMAN/ServerName.phx.gbl
HOST/ServerName
RestrictedKrbHost/ServerName
TERMSRV/ServerName
WSMAN/ServerName
3. Now from above list, look for all the entries with name : "MSSQLSvc/ServerName***".
In my case we found two entries :
MSSQLSvc/ServerName.phx.gbl:SQLEXPRESS
MSSQLSvc/ServerName.phx.gbl:64723
4. Now you have to delete these two SPN entries. Use below command to delete the SPN entries :
setspn -d MSSQLSvc/ServerName.phx.gbl:SQLSERVER ServerName
setspn -d MSSQLSvc/ServerName.phx.gbl:64723 ServerName
Now you can rename the server name easily.

"The Directory Service is Busy." Error Message When Trying to Rename PCs on AD 2012 R2 Domain
As the title says, I'm trying to rename some existing PCs on a Windows 2012 R2 Active Directory domain, but I keep getting the error: The
Directory Service is Busy.
The command I am using is:
netdom renamecomputer <OLD_NAME> /newname:<NEW_NAME> /ud:DOMAIN\user /pd:* /force /reboot:300
This command works on some machines but not others. Using Powershell elicits the same response. Any troubleshooting suggestions?

Considering that your issue isn't really PowerShell specific I'd probably try asking this question over in the Directory Services forum:

Perhaps someone here will have some answers for you as well, but I imagine the DS forum will be your quickest route to an answer.

Business Service (vs) Business System in Integration Directory.
Hi to all,
I want to know the best practice for using Business Service and Business System, Then
When we should go for Business Service instead of Business System in Integration directory? Can any one give me suggestion for me .
Thanks,
Vikram.C.Hi Vikram,
>>Business System: It represent a specific application System in the SLD.
Business Service: It represents an abstract service and are used in Cross Company Process.
>>When we should go for Business Service instead of Business System in Integration directory?
Its purely used in the Cross Company Process, i.e. whenever you are communicating with external system.

Reg. the Business Service and Business System(Integration Directory).
Hi,
I have a small doubt reg. the Business Service and Business System. When do we need to go for creating a Business Service AND a Business System? I want to know the difference b/w them and the usage of a Business Service as compared to a Business System. Generally I create Business Systems in my configuration scinerioes. Could anybody pl. clarify on this?
Regards,
MurthyMurthy,
It's been already discussed so many times, Juz give a search option in the thread, you will find a lot.

Business service or Business system??
Hello All,
I do get confused with respect to Business service and Business system?? What differentiates between them and when accordingly are they used??
If I am using a HTTP adapter to connect to a URL address of a 3rd party system, what would be my steps in Intergration directory involve?? I get lost in receiver determinations and interface determinations and their purpose...
Thanks,
KennethHi Ken,
Basically business service will be used only for published services and not those which have a physical landscape set up. If there is a physical landscape available then we go for business systems.
Receiver determinations talk abt the receivers available for an outbound interface and interface determination tell you abt the interfaces ( both outbound and inbound) in play and their mapping pgm involved.
Hope this was helpful and any add ons are also welcomed.

Diff between Business service and Business System?
HI Experts,
Pls let me know wht is the difference between business service and business system??
when we will have to go for business service and when for business system??
thnx in advance..
New XIHi,
Difference between Business Service and Business System are :
1) Business sytem require all details like login user id
password require to create but in case of business service
log in details does not require..
2) A Business System is purely for SAP-Systems and
Business Service for Non-SAP systems
3) Business service refers to any business applications where
as the business system is defined in SLD(System Landscape
Directory)
4) When we have full details of application system the we are
going to use the business system and it is created in the
SLD so we dont have authorization to change the business
system name.
When we have partial details or no details of Technical
system then we r going to use the business service. it is
created in the ID. we can see and change it.
5) A Business system is something that physically exists
For example, if u want to download a file from a system
ABC, by using file adapter and then want to update the
content of this file into r/3 database by using RFc,then
the system abc and the r/3 will be ur business systems
i.e. they physically exists. Business Systems are
configured in SLD.
Business service is mostly usedin B2B Scenario (cross-
component),where you don't know the Business System of your
partner. In other words business Service will be used only
for those partners which do not have a physical landscape
set up . Business servces do not have an entry in SLD.
6) A Business Service is an Abstract Unit(which is not in
System Landscape Directory) addressing Senders and
Receivers of Messages.
Physicals systems which use their communication channels
and routing rules to communicate with other systems are
called as Application Systems OR physical systems.
7) In simple when u going for A2A integration then we define
our Technical systems are Business system. If we r going
for B2B integration then we dont know the complete
information about the other end Business Landscape so, we
configure it as a Business Services. Business system are
created at SLD. Where as a Business Services are created at
Integration Directory.
8) Business systems:
These are logical senders or receivers that exchange
messages by using the Integration Server and that are
entered in the System Landscape Directory.
The business systems in the System Landscape Directory
relate to a system landscape. The business systems of
business partners are therefore not entered in the System
Landscape Directory. To be able to address such business
partners logically, use communication components in the
Integration Directory. A business system is a way of
specifying a communication component in the Integration
Directory more precisely (business system component).
Hope this will hwlp u..

Business Service and Business scenario
Hi,
Does Business Service and Business scenario are alike ?
Rgds,sofiahi,
Business System : is a logical entity assigned to a Technical System in a SLD

Unable to print from MS Word: "The Directory Service is currently unavailable"
Hi! I hope you can help me. Please note that I have a Windows XP computer (Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3, 32-bit). When I initially installed a Brother printer (model# MFC-J475DW) in Dec 2013, I had no problems printing documents. My problems
started about 2 days ago. I got an error message after I opened a MS Word document (.doc) and clicked the Print button to print a document. The Printer "Name" field was empty. I clicked the dropdown box in that window and saw 3 options:
1 - Brother MFC-J475DW Printer
2 - Brother PC-FAX v.3.2
3 - PaperPort Image Printer
When I selected "Brother MFC-J475DW Printer," a Microsoft Word dialog box appeared, saying the following:
"The printer has not yet responded, but the Microsoft Office program may be able to proceed without printer information. Do you want to continue to wait for the printer?"
I can either click on a Yes button or a No button. Either way, I'm brought back to the Print page. When I click on the OK button to start printing, another error message appears:
"Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup. Try one or more of the following:
*Check the printer by printing a test page from Windows.
*Make sure the printer is turned on and online.
*Reinstall the printer driver."
I have a choice to click either OK or Web Help. I click the OK button to close the box, then return to the Print page. When I click on the "Find Printer..." button, the Find Printers window appears for a moment, then is replaced by this error message:
"The Directory Service is currently unavailable"
On Friday (Mar 21), when the error first occurred, I was able to print a letter in MS Word after un- and re-installing the Brother printer and its drivers. The problem reappeared the next day (Saturday). I don't want to do that every time to print a single
page, so would you please recommend a solution?
By the way, I am able to print a test page from the printer in Control Panel, and I can print from a Notepad document. Also, when I go to the Control Panel, select "Printers and Faxes," then right-click on the printer (Brother MFC-J475DW Printer),
then select the Ports page, there's a check mark next to USB001 (not LPT1 or COM1). When I click on the "Configure Port..." button, I get this error message:
"An error occurred during port configuration. This operation is not supported."
Earlier today, I got a reply from brother.com's tech support (thanks to the 1 year warranty). They said the problem is on my PC, not their printer. However, they provided links to completely uninstall the printer, then reinstall it. I did just that, but
the problem persists. I'll download OpenOffice.org's Office Suite to see if I can print documents with their software instead of MS Word. Until then, I await any suggestions.
I hope this info is helpful. Thanks in advance for your help.I downloaded OpenOffice and am able to print documents (in particular, the same document I created in MS Word). I guess MS Word is to blame. I believe the issue is concluded, but I'd welcome any comments about the Active Directory, as I might have a problem
with OpenOffice in the future regarding that. -

ashishHi,
we're having exactly the same problem.
Could you tell me what the problem is with the network ?
You say configure it properly but what do you mean ?
It's installed on a Windows 2000 Server machine, it's own DNS.

VMM 2012R2 UR4 - Version 3.2.7768.0
Not sure when this started happening since I haven't had to update or create a new RunAs account in VMM in some time, but every time I do, either through the console or through PowerShell it throws an error about The specified directory service attribute
or value does not exist. The VMM Service account is the same as it always has been, and other than this issue everything with VMM is working fine. The full text of the error message is below.
I am hoping someone has some ideas because I don't have any more at this point.

Don't retire TechNet! -
(Don't give up yet - 12,575+ strong and growing) -
My user's permissions are gone, open directory service was set to off
Mac Mini running OSX 10.9.2. OSX Server version 3.1.1.
I already repaired the disk permision via the disk utility, there was a lot that was wrong. I did not personally turn the open directory service off. I am able to turn the open directory service back on, but now it says "Unable to load replica list" and then promptly turns itself back off. It's almost like the service just lost all of it's settings, although the Status is green saying it is available at *******.******. before it switches off. Any ideas? You can attempt a recovery. Follow these steps:
1: Stop Open Directory if it happens to still be running. This must be done using the command line.
sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.openldap.slapd.plist
2: Run the db_recover tool and attempt to repair the damage.
sudo db_recover -v -h /var/db/openldap/openldap-data/
3:Reboot the server. Cross fingers.

I want to develop a software with AirPaly service for business things. How can I get the permission from Apple?
This one is used in Windows laptop, and I want it support AirPlay service, but Apple doesn't publish the AirPlay protocol.
Many thanks.Create a developer account, then access he developers forums and see if you can find the information that way
The other option would be to simply contact Apple directly. -

Having your storage device join Active Directory Services can be relatively straightforward. What do do if the JOIN button fails? This demo goes through a basic checklist from network to server. Demo covers integration between the NSS2000/3000/4000/6000 platform and Microsoft ADS Server 2003.
Part 1 - Network Overview
Part 2 - NSS Configuration
Part 3 - Connecting a share
Part 4 - Server 2003 Administration
Note: Some artistic license was used to make the test environment more easy to illustrate but the principles are the same in a live network.Hi Angus,
Policy Server does not require a specific LDAP schema. During configuration you simply map the LDAP attributes of your schema to the ones that Policy Server supports (e.g., common name, email address, etc).
If you are configuring Policy Server to use an LDAP, it will use the LDAP to authenticate the user (Policy Server does not store the password itself in this case).
If passwords are stored outside of the LDAP (e.g., in a database), it is possible to write a custom authentication provider to authenticate against this source.
Hope this helps,
-Bill -

Hope this helps,
-Bill
