DirectX, Authorware and Timing Accuracy

Hi,
Does anybody know if Authorware’s default Response
Times (ResponseTime) use DirectX?
If not can anyone point to ways Authorware can use DirectX to
support response registration and graphics presentation with high
timing accuracy (temporal resolution)? And also use DirectX to
interact with the output (e.g., video and sound) and input
interfaces (e.g., keyboard, mouse)?
Cheers,
Miles.

I am indeed fairly certain Authorware uses the system clock
for such
timings. I was not aware you could use DirectX in such a
fashion... Very
happy to hear you recognize Authorware's flexibility and
power! It's a
shame it hasn't kept up with technology. However, if it's
within your
skillset, Authorware can be extended through use of custom
DLLs created
as 'Xtras' or 'U32' files. I believe the Authorware CD
contains examples
of how to create your own (using tools like Delphi). So
perhaps the
functionality you seek is still possible...
Best of luck!

    Hello guys
I've a question. is there any way to get latest installed DirectX version and VGA Pixel Shader Model supported version?
how can I get this information? I really need this.

  • Two quick questions about the project and timing panes

    1) Is there a hotkey for toggling between the project and timing panes?
I can't seem to find this anywhere. I know F5 and F6 open and close them, but I'd like to be able to simply activate then without having to click on them. I'd like to be able to simply toggle between them and navigate using the arrow keys
    2) Is there a way to lock together the project and timing views so that when you open a group in one that group is also opened in the other?

Sure, play/stop SHOULD work, but it doesn't always. And the up/down arrows only work to move layers in some instances. Try this. In a normal project, select a layer in either the layers pane or the canvas. Use the up/down arrows and you'll find Motion cycles between layers. Now close the layers pane (F5) and open it again. Now try to use the up/down arrows. It no longer cycles on my machine (and probably yours).
In fact, Motion 4 broke a LOT of the keyboard shortcuts that used to work seemlessly in Motion 3.
For example: I create a text object and start typing my text. About 30 percent of the time hitting the spacebar while typing text will cause playback to start. Pure annoyance.
I used to be able to Hit HOME and END to go to the start and end of the project when the layer's pane is active, now I can't.
About 25 percent of the time when I'm in the layers pane and I hit spacebar, instead of playing the project, I turn off the layer that was currently selected.
Those are just a few of my pet peeves. There are definitely some real issues with shortcuts in Motion 4.

  • DAQ and timed loop

    Hi,
I have a question about DAQ and timed loop. I used timed loop while acquiring data. I need timed loop since I have tvo more loops in my application and ı need give some priority to them.
Data acquisition should have a high priority. But the example codes about DAQ always use wlile loop. Is this wrong to use timed loop in DAQ application, or there is a unexpected result about
    this usage.

You could use timed loops in Data acquisition operations as well
But, one thing you will have to watch is the 'number of samples per channel' terminal of DAQmx Read function.
Suppose you have rate as 1000 samples /sec, in your DAQmx timing vi
In continuous acquisition, if you specify number of samples per channel as 500, instead of performing 2 iterations / sec to get your 1000 samples as your nor mal while loop would, your Timed loop will run for 1 sec and you will get an error that all samples could not be acquired

  • Directx 11 and now Premiere CS5 will not work.

I finally got my ATI 5770 working with Directx 11 and now Premiere CS5 will not work

I just installed what I thought was Directx 11.  The latest file update I downloaded is only 9. dxwebsetup.exe from Microsofts web.
I have a Dell XPS 8100.  I was on the phone with AMD/ATI, DELL, and XFX.  Dell said the card was an ATI, and AMD/ATI said that ATI now just makes the chips.  I tried Sapphire ATI 5770 and they didn't work, then I tried a program the took off all the drivers and I got the Dell drivers from the web, thinking that they are on OEM and with the DP Adapter, I finally got the 3rd ATI Eyefinity monitor to work. I tried Cuty of Duty and it worked for a couple of minutes.  I'm not into games, but I like the three monitors for learning software. One monitor is the video training and one is the software and the other is the Internet or an ebook.
Now Premiere doesn't like anything. I tried going back to one monitor, and different resolutions. I had two monitors working at one time on this computer. I like the Time line monitor window on it's own monitor and the rest of Premiere on the left monitor.
    I was reading that Premiere likes 1280 x 900. That is not a mode on the ATI 1280 x 960 or 1280 x 1024.
Could it be the latest Directx it installed or the fact the Display Port is in the card?

I got a call from number say 123456789 at yesterday evening, but if i get call from same number today morning then call details like timing and call duration of yesterday got lost.
so how to get them and see them

Hit the green call key in standyby
now look at top of screen you should see three boxes, scroll across with the DPAD
Or go to menu then apps then log this brings you to same as above

  • Big Problem with Directx 11 and Games scaling when lower than native resolution

    Hi Guys,
MY system is Windows 7 Home Premium (Korean version), and I have dual GPUs, Nvidia Geforce GT 630m for gaming, and Intel HD Graphics 4000 for all other display matters.  My native resolution is 1920 x 1080.
This problem wasn't there couple of years back, but from 2~3 years ago, when I play recent games that require/favour directx 11 (such as Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, Batman: Arkham Origins), it seems when I use lower than native resolution (such as 1280
x 720) and select fullscreen, giant ugly black borders always appear around the game, and the game does not fill the whole screen.
I thought this was something which could be fixed in my GPU's control panel, but there was no scale fullscreen option under Nvidia's control panel.  So I went into Intel HD Graphics control panel, but there was no Scale fullscreen option there either (under
native resolution.  With lower resolution there was).
Anyway, after months and months of searching, I finally found an Intel forum which was discussing the same situation:
    https://communities.intel.com/thread/44539
While going through the forum, I found out from other users that problem is not with GPU's drivers, but with Directx 11.
To test this theory, I put Batman: Arkham Origins in Force Directx 9 mode, and changed the game resolution to 1280x720.  And the game showed no black borders, it scaled up perfectly to fullscreen under Directx 9 (so no problem whatsoever under directx
9).  I changed the setting to Directx 11, and the ugly black borders appeared again.
Could someone please help with this?  I know I can change my screen's resolution every time I play the game, but it's a real nuisance to do that.  And more games are utilising Directx 11 or higher, and I don't think there are many games where I can
force Directx 9 mode like I did for Arkham Origins.
Or if someone connected could contact the people working on Directx 11 and ask about this issue (and get them to contact me through my email below), that would be much appreciated.
    my email:
    [email protected]
p.s. : all my GPU drivers are currently up to date, and the black borders issue is still there

    Hello MeipoXu
While yes, at first people on the Intel forum thought it was the display driver problem (hence the question was originally posted on the Intel forum).  But if you look closely through the pages especially Pages 2 onwards, there are some very astute
    comments by some posters:
Update to black borders problem: The problem is DirectX11. Fx. Company of Heroes has a setting "Shader Quality" that when set to ULTRA it will run directX11 and when set below ULTRA it will run directX9. So the intel graphics driver is not
responsible! It is Microsofts DirectX11 that does it - maybe only to computers with both Intel HD and a second graphics card for video games
Different workarounds to the black border problem:
    Change resolution before running fullscreen
    Use directX9 instead of directX11
Fx. in CoH2 there is a setting fx. 50% of resolution, so even in native resolution the graphics is only half and thus faster
    Try window mode without borders
    and here's also another:
I can confirm that this problem still seems to exist, and that it definitely seems to be related to DirectX 11.
In a variety of games, turning DirectX11 off (either in-game or using ini files in some games that don't present you with the choice) fixes the issue. But this is obviously not ideal.
I have a laptop with a native resolution of 1920x1080, but tend to run games at 1280x720 because it provides much better performance on my HD 4400 graphics chip. This bug and the memory leak issue on Windows 8.1 are extremely annoying.
Like the first poster, my PC has intel HD GPU, and a second graphics card for games (Nvidia).
And all the members have mentioned that they updated the intel graphics driver, but it does not fix it - so it doesn't seem like a graphics driver problem (and more to do with Directx 11).
And they are right.  With Batman Arkham Origins, if I set the resolution to 1366 x 768 and apply fullscreen, under Directx 11, ugly black borders appears.  Luckily Arkham Origins has "Force Directx 9 mode" which I use, but a lot of games
don't have this mode (such as ACIV Black Flag, Watch Dogs, Sleeping Dogs etc) - you either play in ugly black borders, or can't play the game at all.
And all my Graphics Drivers are currently up-to-date, and issue still exists, so I don't think it's the driver problem.
I have already tried that registry method you just mentioned.  It didn't work.
As for Directx 12, well I just hope it works better than Directx 11 (with its ugly black borders in games) does, and works well like Directx9 (with no problem in scaling).

  • TTL signal vs TCP-IP, parctical and timing considerations

We have just purchased a BioPac MP1 50 physiological recording system (www.biopac.com). We would like to start/stop an acquisition from another computer system and/or to add annotations and markers.
To this end it seems there are two routes to consider. We could either use the built-in Trigger in/out capability with TTL signal of (0 and +5V square pulse) or use TCP-IP client-server to control it remotely (i.e. using VIs such as TCP-IP Listen). In the later case, Id use the Beta LabView API libraries that BioPac is about to release for the MP150, instead of the dedicated AcqKnowledge 3.8.1 software, which is really good.
Because we need to correlate event during the physiological recording of our experim
ent, it would be ideal if the resolution were of ms accuracy (i.e. latency less than 1ms) and we need to manage up to 16 trigger channels.
I have very little technical background knowledge on this. Thus, in order to help me evaluate a solution, I would appreciate any comments and suggestions.
    1) I would like to know first if anyone could recommend an easy solution to generate TTL signal (0 5V logical pulse) on both Windows and LINUX PC?
For instance I read about using the 25-pin parallel port, but I am curious to learn about other possible alternative such as USB, USB2 with or without adapter but also a very cheap card (a couple $100 max). I am already ruling out serial connection, because I am told it is very slow and has horrendous latency.
    2) What are the latencies in read and writing/issuing TTL signals com? How does it compare with a dedicated byte stream through TCP-IP, on a dedicated cable and on a network cable?
    3) Are they any VI application that you c
ould share to show how LabView 7.0 can talk through the respective ports to generate a pulse forming the trigger information being written or read in?
I look forward to hearing your feedback and suggestions. Many thanks in advance.

Use TTL. It is likely that the TCP/IP messages will get there fast enough
and that the software will respond in a timely manner but there is no way to
be sure. It is the fastest way to get from your LV application to your
other device. You may need to check the response time that the BioPac will
give to the TTL input verses a TCP/IP message.
You should also consider the level of programming needed to accomplish your
tasks. I would strongly suggest that you get a seasoned LV programmer on
the job or you will be wasting a lot of time and enduring needless
    frustration.
The parallel port will respond is sub-millisecond. You should be able to
toggle it several hundred times in a millisecond. I've had LV applications
use the printer port for this type of communications before. I don't
remember the bandwidth but it's more than adequate for this application.
TCP/IP will sometimes get delayed by the OS (either Windows or Linux) due to
other things that are happening at the time which you don't have control of.
The message should go out in very short order (again sub-millisecond) but
there is no control over this.
    Good luck,

  • Smartband and lifelog accuracy

    Hi,
I've been using smartband with the lifelog app for a couple of weeks now and i've also made some comparison with my Garmin Vivofit.
    Some issues that i've noticed:
    1. Smartband constantly record 10-15% less steps than the Vivofit per day.
    2. Smartband is not recording my walking time. it will track the steps that i take but do not record it in terms of walking time. e.g. as of writing this post, i've clock about 1449 steps, but the walking time that is recorded is only 3mins, which equates to 108m based on the app. Running time at this point is at 0mins and 0 distance. i didn't jog today so i don't think it is possible to clock about 1449steps in 3mins. And given a stride length of 67cm, with 1449 steps i should be recording around 970m rather than 108m. hence there is definitely something wrong here.
is there a bug in the smartband or lifelog app such that it is not tracking correctly? because the difference is too inconsistent.
i've reset the smartband a numbers of times to try to resolve this but it is still not working. i've also tried to close the lifelog app or shut down the phone hoping that it will help to fix this problem but it is not working.
please advise on how to fix this.
secondly, i'm also having issues with the NFC connection. when i try to connect via NFC it will give many reading error messages before successfully connecting or syncing the data. it will also prompt that a new tag is collected and "the tag is empty, to use it download an NFC writer application."
really not sure what this means and how it should be fixed.
    thanks.

    Hi, thanks for your reply.
I don't really have connection issues with the smartband to the phone. I usually disconnect it and only sync it at the end of the day to track my movements. My issues is with the tracking accuracy compared to others fitness tracker. It is sometimes even 30% lower than other devices in steps count and walking time doesn't get recorded properly. Hence was wondering if it is connected the whole time would it improve accuracy which I tried for 1 day but didn't seem to help.
Also noticed that if you are linked the whole time to the phone it will affect the phone data connection. WhatsApp or Line messages will be sent in a delayed fashion, taking longer time to send.
Really not sure what else to do about it since I've tried resetting it a few times.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Firstly, I’m not full agree with Hrishi Patel, as when you try to make system refresh, it would prompt your need to insert Windows Media. Except you can find Windows 8.1 media.
Secondly, According to your description, this probably a DirectX or Graphic driver problem that caused these errors. You can try to reinstall Graphic driver for test to fix this problem. In addition, make sure chipest and motherboard driver upgraded to be
    latest.

  • Help with buttons and timing

I have four buttons, each with an advanced action.  Only the first one works.  I know it's related to the button timing, but I can't figure out how to fix it.

Let's try some troubleshooting 101.  Remove the complexity to isolate the issue.
Try setting each button just to have a Continue action again and test. This will show whether the problem is with the buttons or with the Advanced Actions you've assigned to them.
If the buttons work fine with Continue actions, try dragging your first button off the stage area into the scrap area and then test the slide again.  If the button that is first in line NOW works, but others don't, then I would look at these advanced actions carefully because there may be something in the logic that is fouling things up.
For example, standard actions do not release the playhead unless you also add an extra Continue action line, whereas Conditional Actions do not require this same Continue action.
