Disable expand/collapse JTree through double click

Hi guys,
In my Tree when you double click a node, a input dialog will pop up. And the node will be expanded or collapsed accordingly. How can I disable expand or collapse the node through double click. So that every time only the input dialog will popup and the tree stays.
Thanks a lot!

The JTree class have a method setToggleClickCount(int clickCount) which sets the number of mouse clicks before a node will expand or close. The default is two. You can try to set 0 or for examle 10 and double click will only dialog popup.

• Expand collapsed code by double-click. A ticking bomb

I might have posted about this before, but since the technical support doesn't accept cases after-hours (they seem not like to arrive to the office with tons of requests, so we are all squeezed to the the group of those that have the time to wait in line - in the chat… which often closes itself because of the long time waited)
When I double click collapsed code to expand it, Dreamweaver ALWAYS crashes. It might be on the spot, or later.
If I NEVER double click collapsed code, Dreamweaver can run for weeks without even closing it (I never shutdown my MacBook Pro)
If I do it, it WILL crash, usually on the spot, or minutes later.
When I dare to do it, and I forget that I did minutes later, I end up regretting when it finally crashes, and it NEVER dissapointed me: Soon it crashes as expected.
I already deleted all the possible preferences and customizations, and it still happens.
It's been happening for years, so it's not only DreamWeaver CC. Definitely from CS4 and up.
I use creative swite CC, on Mac OS 10.6.8

Can you confirm the version(s) of DW you're running on 10.6.8?
Dreamweaver CC only runs on Mac OS X 10.7 and higher

The exclamation mark is telling you that iPhoto has broken the file path/link to the original file. Assuming you're using iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

• Option to collapse windows by double-click to title bar only, NOT minimize into dock?

A double-click to a window's title bar did, in former incanations of the Mac system, result in a collapse of the window to title bar only. Currently, it seems that this option is gone? All I find results in "minimize to the dock".
Is there a hidden option?
Or is there third-party software that adds back this feature?

I was a bit "perplex" about the sensitivity that the term "iOSification" has caused, so I needed a little time to think about that.
From my point of view, the removal of the "collapse a window to the title bar only" function is a feature that fits very well to the wide screen format that we have today. It IS something that was and is (would be) useful on a 27'' screen, and I think it is reasonable to blame the "iOSification" (that is, the attempt to unify the user interface on very small and "real" screens) for the removal of this feature.
I am using Macs since the IIfx (with System 6). It might be that the term "iOSification" fits better to other "back the the Mac" changes to MacOS, but it describes a general attitude that I do start hating.

• Tree control double click default behavior

Hi all,
Tree control have default behavior that expand/ collapse item when double click event occurs on parent item.
How do I to avoid this behavior to use custom double click event without open close nodes?
Thanks,

Hi,
I was not able to disable the default event however I realized a VI that could be useful for you.
I've used a method to force all the tree items to be collapsed.
Take a look at the attached image.

• JTree remove expand/collapse cross button...??

Hi all,
I have forbidden tree collapsing (by default it is fully expanded),
and I want to remove expand/collapse cross buttons that actually are used to expand/collapse tree nodes.
Is it possible and can anyone give me advice how i can do this.
Thanks in advance.

I tried extending the BasicTreeUI to return nulls for the collapsed and exapnded icons as shown in the code below. For the most part, it works great! However, one can still expand/collapse the tree by clicking on the point where the vertical and horizontal lines connect.
I guess some one else will take over from here.

• Expand/collapse all regions

I have 5 show/hide regions on a page. is it possible to Expand/collapse all regions by clicking a "Show/Hide All" link or a button. any ideas are appreciated.
thanks,
Surya

Hi Surya
Create a new HTML region at the top of your page, using No Template and use this as the Source:
<script type="text/javascript">
function showHideAll(displaystyle)
var hideIMG = "/i/htmldb/builder/rollup_plus_dgray.gif";
var showIMG = "/i/htmldb/builder/rollup_minus_dgray.gif";
var k;
var r = document.getElementsByTagName("DIV");
if (r)
for (k = 0; k < r.length; k++)
if (r[k].className == 't12Hide')
r[k].style.display = displaystyle;
var i = document.getElementsByTagName("IMG");
if ( i )
for (k = 0; k < i.length; k++)
if (i[k].id.substr(0, 5) == 'shIMG')
i[k].src = (displaystyle == 'block') ? showIMG : hideIMG;
</script>
<a href="javascript:showHideAll('block');">Show All</a>
<a href="javascript:showHideAll('none');">Hide All</a>The image names and className (t12Hide) are based on my test page - change these as appropriate for your own page (you may need to do a View Source on the page to check these values).

• How do I remove expand / collapse icon for JTree empty folders

Hi
I am using a JTree as a file system browser. I use DefaultMutableTreeNode nodes.
I have a problem with empty folders.
Empty folders show the expand / collapse icon, leading the user to believe there are sub-directories. When the user double-clicks the folder, the expand / collapse icon goes away. This is a "haha-gotcha" glitch that I really don't want my users to have to continually deal with.
So, how might I get my JTree to not show the expand / collapse icon for empty folders?
Thanks
Wayne

Maybe I can use the FileSystemView isTraversable(File f) method in my TreeCellRenderer class to check if anything is in the directory.
But I still need to know how to disable the expand / collapse icon for such a node.

• JTree with XML content expand/collapse problem

Hello all,
I'm having this very weird problem with a JTree I use to display the contents of an XML file. I use the DOM parser (and not JDOM since I want the application to run as an applet as well, and don't want to have any external libraries for the user to download) and have a custom TreeModel and TreeNode implementations to wrap the DOM nodes so that they are displayed by the JTree.
I have also added a popup menu in the tree, for the user to be able to expand/collapse all nodes under the selected one (i.e. a recursive method).
When expandAll is run, everything works fine and the children of the selected node are expanded (and their children and so on).
However, after the expansion when I run the collapseAll function, even though the selected node collapses, when I re-expand it (manually not by expandAll) all of it's children are still fully open! Even if I collapse sub-elements of the node manually and then collapse this node and re-expand it, it "forgets" the state of it's children and shows them fully expanded.
In other words once I use expandAll no matter what I do, the children of this node will be expanded (once I close it and re-open it).
Also after running expandAll the behaviour(!) of the expanded nodes change: i have tree.setToggleClickCount(1); but on the expanded nodes I need to double-click to collapse them.
I believe the problem is related to my implementations of TreeModel and TreeNode but after many-many hours of trying to figure out what's happening I'm desperate... Please help!

The collapseAll, expandAll code (even though I m pretty sure that's not the problem since they work fine on a normal JTree):

Object node=tp.getLastPathComponent();
TreeModel model=tree.getModel();
if (!model.isLeaf(node)){
tree.collapsePath(tp);
for (int i=0;i<model.getChildCount(node);i++){
//for (int i = node.childCount()-4;i>=0;i--){
collapseAll(tp.pathByAddingChild(model.getChild(node,i)));
tree.collapsePath(tp);
private void expandAll(TreePath tp){
if (tp==null) return;
Object node=tp.getLastPathComponent();
TreeModel model=tree.getModel();
if (!model.isLeaf(node)){
tree.expandPath(tp);
for (int i=0;i<model.getChildCount(node);i++){
//for (int i = node.childCount()-4;i>=0;i--){
expandAll(tp.pathByAddingChild(model.getChild(node,i)));

Hi,
Iam not facing this problem. To CollapseAll, I do a tree.getModel().reload() which causes all nodes to get collapsed and remain so even if I reopen them manually.
Hope this helps.
cheers,

• Double Click On JTree new window is needed

Hi All,
If i double click the JTree node , it has to open the new popup window(frame) with the jtree node name.

This can be done with MouseListener for leaf nodes.There is a conflict with the expand/collapse feature for non-leaf nodes.

Is there any way I can remove the default double click behaviour for a node in a JTree? Currently it expands or collapses the node, but I want it to do something else. I have set a listener up so it can do the new task, but I want to remove the expand/collapse behaviour as well.

But it isn't....
With the TreeWillExpandListener I cannot distinguish between the two expansion methods.
However, I have found another, extremely simple way of doing what I want, using the JTree.setToggleClickCount(int) method. This sets the number of clicks needed to expand the node (but does not affect clicking on the + box). By setting this to a high number, I can prevent double clicks from expanding nodes, thus allowing my own double click listener to do the stuff I need.

• Hundreds of my iPhoto pictures will not be copied and will not show when I double-click on them. When I do in iPhoto an exclamation surrounded by a triangle appears. Though I can see the picture in the small tiles below it will not expand.

Hundreds of my iPhoto pictures will not be copied and will not show when I double-click on them. When I do in iPhoto an exclamation surrounded by a triangle appears. Though I can see the picture in the small tiles below it will not expand. I also cannot attach any of these pics into an e-mail or into any other file. I have already went through all 3 Repair options and when that did not solve it went through a complete Rebuild. Any Help?! Any Suggestions on how to fix this?! I have spent almost 2 days now going through all of the published help.
I have backups going back 6 months - I have not had the real need to check every album before - but - all of my backups also have this same problem.

The triangle with the ! indicates that the connection between the thumbnail and the orginal is missing - this can be caused by many things including database corruption and user action emoving the originals photos on urpose or by accident
If the database is corrupted then rebuilding is the solution - backup and depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild your database -- if the iPhoto rebuild does not cure the problem then download iPhoto Library manager and use its rebuild command which creates a totally new library leaving the existing one untouched
If you have deleted the photos then you need to start over with a new library and import the photos you have not deleted into it
You can select one of the problem photos and use the reveal original in finder commander (file menu) to see if the original is there - if it is a finder window will open showing it

• Why does "double clicking" onto a group expands sub-layers?

when i have an object that has sub-layers (i am assuming that illustrator creates these automatically), if i accidently double click the object, my layers pallet expands. I have to go back to layers pallet and collapse layer to resume work.

OK, the double click in an empty space helps, but I do not find "isolation mode" in my preferences. I'm running Illustrator CS2...is there another name for isolation mode? (help topic displayed nothing for this term)
thanks again

• Double click a node in a jtree

hi i have a Jtree with usernames has nodes. how do i generate a code that when a user double clicks a username node, the corresponding code will execute along with what node was clicked on.
for example, a user clicks on username "jonney" and than a new chat window will appear to establish a chat session with jonney.
at the moment when a user selects a node, you are able to create a new chat session, but i want to change it so that the user has to double click their username not just selecting it. similar to msn mesenger.
here is the code i have at the moment.
public void valueChanged(TreeSelectionEvent event)
DefaultMutableTreeNode node = (DefaultMutableTreeNode)
userTree.getLastSelectedPathComponent();
//get username.
Object nodeInfo = node.getUserObject();
String info =nodeInfo.toString();
if(node.isLeaf())
ChatDialog_c chatting = new ChatDialog_c(crnt_user, info);
Thread t = new Thread(chatting);
chatting.setTitle("I-comm");
chatting.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
chatting.setSize(430, 200);
chatting.getSize();
chatting.setLocation(420,200);
chatting.setVisible(true);
t.start();
}

when you call a method you call it on an object.
e.g.
Class instance = new Class();
instance.method();where Class is a hypathetical class name and instance is a hypathetical variable name of type Class.
new is a keyword for creating an instance of a Class.
method is the name of a method in Class which is accessable through instance.
when you do not put an instance in front of a metho call:
method();it is the same as:
this.method();this being the keyword to say "us the current object we are in".
In the API for MouseEvent it says there is a method getClickCount(). looking back at your code we have a refrence to a MouseEvent being passed as a parameter to the method you are in.
private void userTreeMouseClicked(java.awt.event.MouseEvent evt) {
^from this you should be able to see what you are doing wrong, I could have just told you the line to write in much less time but i think you will gain more this way.
