Disable 'open PDF in browser'

Hi,
I'm trying to disable the open PDF in browser option in a corporate enviroment. The Adobe knowledge base said that this can be done by disabling the addon called 'Adobe PDF Reader'
I've set a policy to disable this addon, but the PDF still open in the browser.  Any ideas?
Also is there a registry key to disable instead? We are using IE11 as a browser.
Thanks
Dave

Hello,
Please try the below reg.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\Originals]
“bBrowserIntegration”=dword:00000000

  • Disabling open pdf in browser in adobe PRO XI not reader

I have deployed adobe pro out to our user base and i understand in adobe PRO X there was a check box that would disable open pdf in a browser but that has gone away. I have gone under the preferences and on the internet section in PRO XI there is a link that takes you
here: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html I have created a GPO that disables the active X control in both IE 8 and IE 10 as you can see from this screen shot the adobe pdf reader is disabled so according to the instructions on the web all pdf files should open in PRO XI. This is not the case. The pdf will still open in the browser. I have checked the new customizations wizzard for adobe PRO XI and there is nothing to disable disply pdf in the browser to uncheck that i am aware of. I have read about the bdisablewebintegration but this have not worked either under the FeatureLockDown. In adobe reader you can go under the accessibilty options and disable open within a browser there but I have been unable to find that option in PRO XI. Had anyone found a fix for this issue to where it can be deployed out?
    Please let me know
    Thanks

From the screenshot it looks like you have both Acrobat and Reader on the machine and only Reader is disabled.
Check again. If you think the doc is incorrect, post back.
    --- more info ---
All browser integration prefs were deprecated with 11.x because browser companies are releasing new versions every 6 weeks or more. It was simply not possible to keep pace without requiring admins to update every few weeks. Moreover, most browsers are gradually phasing out such plugins or at least disable them by default (e.g. Chrome). Many companies provide a browser-specific PDF viewer. Acrobat and Reader share the same config and there's nothing different between the two.

  • Disable "Display PDF in browser" | Acrobat, Reader XI

I understand this is the suggested method of disabling the "Display PDF in browser" is  http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html    However we would like to know if there is an API or something we can simply remove from the workstation to disable "Display PDF in browser".
Where is and what's the  name of the file IE loads for  "Display PDF in browser"
Is there a Reg Key that we can modiefy to Disable "Display PDF in browser"?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to offer.
    Ed

From the KB note: "Acrobat XI and Reader XI do not include a preference setting to open web-based PDFs. "
In other words, what you want is already the default. All of the major browsers have their own PDF viewer. Moreover, the old reg pref "disable browser integration" never worked across all browsers due to the number of browsers and the rate at which they were evolving. That pref is removed in 11.x products.
While I don't understand the question in your first bullet, the default browser behavior seems to be what you are looking for. Browser behavior should be configured with browser settings rather than Acrobat/Reader settings.

  • Disable "Open PDF in Broswer"

    Hi,
I have created a customized install of Reader 8.2.5 with the "Open PDF in Browser" disabled and greyed out. I would like to know which registry key makes this setting stick because about 50% of my network doesn't have the correct setting after deploy.
Could it be because of some older version registry files that are taking presidence??
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Reader XI enterprise deploy-disable display PDF in browser?

There appears to be conflicting information about Adobe Reader XI and how to pre-configure the "disable display pdf in browser".
The Enterprise Administration Kit/Guide says you can do this via the MSI Property:
    DISABLE_BROWSER_INTEGRATION = YES
However, acrobat help, indicates you can ONLY do this manually via individual browser add-ons.
I have the redestributable version from Adobe and I used the Enterprise Guide to make the AIP and used the Customization Wizard to create the package and am using the properties line when the msi is installed to disable the display
    so which one is right?

I am out of the office until 1/22/13.

    Hi
I hope I picked the correct forum
Basically I have a site in asp classic. From a button I opens 2
    windows via javascript.
One contains info, one shows a related file ( could be tiff or pdf ).
When user closes info-window, I also close the file window via javascript, so that user only hav to click once.
That works with tiff, but not with pdf, '!file.closed' returns that window are already closed.
Somehow I simply loose contact to that window when I open pdf.
My Adobe is set  with "open pdf in browser", version 10.1.2
    Any Ideas ?

  • Cannot open PDFs in browser in IE from Search Center

    [SYSTEM]
    SharePoint 2013 Enterprise, 2WFE, 2App, 1SQL
    [ISSUE]
We have a problem with opening PDF files from search results in IE. I can open PDFs in the browser with Chrome and Firefox in all site collections as well as search results.  If using IE10, I can open PDFs in browser everywhere except
the Search results page. Also, if I right click on a document in search results, and click "Open in new tab" or "Open in new window", then the pdf opens up in browser just fine. If I copy the URL and paste it into the address
box, the document will also open in browser with no problem.
The only way that the browser tries to open a pdf document in the client is when you click on the document directly in Search results. All other ways of opening the file yield the right result.
We really need PDFs to open in browser in IE.  Please help.
    [TROUBLESHOOTING DONE]
I set the Web Application Browser File Handling to Permissive from Central Administration.
I specified for files to open in the browser in Search Center preferences accessible from the bottom of the search results page.
I verified that "application/pdf" is an AllowedInlineDownloadedMimeType
The Office Web Apps settings were modified to open PDFs in the default PDF reader rather than OWA.

  • Can't open PDFs in browser

    Hello!
My Mac can't open PDFs in the browser window anymore, but just offers a download dialogue.
I already read in the forum, that it may help, to open the Acrobat Reader prefs and uncheck the "open PDF in browser window" option. The problem is though, that this option is greyed out, so I can' t uncheck it.
And: As for me I don't need to open the PDFs using the Adobe plug in.
I just want to see the PDFs quick and simple.
    Any ideas gladly appreciated!

Remove the plugin from HD>Library>Internet Plugins.

  • Open PDF Slow Problem and Edit Registry to Disable "Display PDF in Browser"

There is around 400 users who were installed Acrobat Reader 9. But it is found that they open our intranet pdf very slow due to NETBIOS problem. The alternative solution is to disable the browser integration feature.
But how can I set Group Policy or Windows Registry to disable the "Display PDF in browser" feature for all the users?

If your users use Internet explorer, you can disable the add-on. to disable the add-on you will need to know the version of IE they are using. the most commonly used scripts to do that are kixstart or .VBS scripts.
e-mail me if you need any help with the script

  • FF 5 no longer opens pdf in browser window & only fix on offer, Dafizilla ViewSourceWith, won't instal and greys out Menu bar.

''locking this thread - discussion is here - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/857882''
I thought I had the Foxit Reader Plug-In reinstalled since I installed FF5, but I've reinstalled it again anyway and reset it to open in Firefox under Tools Options. Once I was happy with the latest Foxit Reader I really didn't want to even try the dead-buried-and-decomposed Adobe Acrobat again. I've disabled that now as it wasn't opening pdfs in Firefox either when I had it selected under Tools Options.

These are the steps I performed on my own system many months ago. I could not view PDF files in Firefox with both Adobe Reader and Foxit installed.
#Close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
#If you have not already done so, uninstall Adobe Reader 9.4.5 using Windows Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, click on the item, click Remove. You may need to restart your system.
#Open Foxit in your programs list Windows Start > Programs
#*on the Foxit menu, click Tools > Preferences
#*click File Associations and be sure "Display PDF in browser" is checked then click "Make Default PDF Viewer" then click OK
#*close Foxit Reader (File > Exit)
    #Start Firefox
#*Open the Applications panel (Tools > Options > Applications '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Options > Options > Applications)
#*type '''pdf''' in the search box; you should see "Foxit Reader PDF document"
#*in Action column, click the down arrow at the far right end
#*choose "Use Foxit Reader plugin for Mozilla (in Firefox)'
#**if the full name does not display, place the cursor over the item to see the full name in a tooltip box
#Test on a pdf file from the internet
#*If there is no toolbar at the top of the PDF display in the tab (just a blue strip), tap the F8 key to get the Basic toolbar, or right-click the blue strip at the top to display/not display other toolbars by clicking on them (checked=display; un-checked=do not display)

  • How to disable Display PDF in Browser in Adobe Reader XI?

I am having troubles with opening a report in PDF form from a web browser, and I'm trying to figure out how to disable opening a PDF in a browser in Reader XI.  I tried disabling "Open in Read Mode" and "Allow Fast Web View" both individually and seperately, and none of those combinations did the trick.
    Any suggestions/help are appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hello Lloyd6770
Try these steps.  ( I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Internet Explorer 9,  and Adobe XI )
    1. Open Adobe XI
    2. Click Edit
    3. Click Accessibility
    4. Click Setup Assistant
    5. Click top radio button 'Set Options for Screen Readers'
    6. Click Next
    7. Do not change options on Screen 2 of 4, Click Next
    8. Do not change options on Screen 3 of 4, Click Next
    9. On screen 4 of 4, remove the check mark on ' Display PDF documents in the web browser '
NOTE: I checked Internet Explorer 9 / Tools / Manage add-ons and Adobe PDF Link Helper is still enabled in Internet Explorer 9.
PDF's will open in Adobe XI as you preferred and not in your brower.
    Cheers!

  • Adobe Reader will not open PDF in browser simple answer.

I just had this problem and was able to work through it with the help of tech support from TD Ameritrade.  The fix is simple so read on.  After uninstalling and reinstalling all things adobe and trying other recommendations on these forums I was stumped.  I called my broker tech section since I couldn't open their reports and we identified what my specific problem was.  For me, and I imagine some of you this will help and prevent a lot of wasted time.
Nothing was wrong with my Adobe Reader.  My problem was that I have a 64 bit operating system and both of my default browsers were 64 bit browsers.  I did not know my internet explorer default browser was the 64 bit one until the technician that assisted me informed me that a recent windows update made all 64 bit systems default to 64 bit internet explorer browsers.  You cannot change that default by choosing between 64 bit and 32 bit, because you can only choose internet explorer.  That explains why my attempts to open with a 32 bit browsers always failed.  I also tried with Firefox thinking it was 32 bit and it failed as well.  The technician informed me Firefox is a 64 bit browser and then it made sense.  I guess the recent Adobe reader update caused a change that no longer allowed my 64 bit system and 64 bit browser to open PDF's through the browser. The technician who assisted me has a 64 bit system and only uses 64 bit browsers and can still open PDF's through those browsers.  That confused us for a while until we realized he had his Adobe updater turned off and therefore had not been exposed yet to the update that originated my problems.
****ANSWER FOR MY PROBLEM*******The quick answer is use Google Chrome or some other 32 bit browser.  If you set a 32 bit browser as your default, the PDF's will open.  You cannot set Internet Explorer 32 bit browser as your default if you have a 64 bit system and also have 64 bit Internet Explorer.  The windows update prevents you from doing it.  At least that is my understanding.
The bottom line is I have the newest Adobe Reader on a 64 bit system and can open any web PDF with Google Chrome set as my default browser, because it is a 32 bit browser.  The new Adobe Reader will not open PDF's with a 64 bit browser in Vista.  A 64 bit system is fine as long as you use the 32 bit browser to open your PDF's in Vista.  I hope this helps some avoid some headaches.  I wish it had been posted when my problem first arose.
I think you can use a 64 bit browser in Windows 9 or later, but for Vista the above applies.

Yes I can create a short cut to internet exp. 32 bit on my desktop and I can even be using Internet expl. 32 bit, but when I try to open a PDF with adobe reader it won't work with internet exp. as my default browser b/c windows will always choose Internet exp. 64 bit which isn't supported yet by adobe reader.  With google chrome as my default browser windows can't choose an unsupported 64 bit browser in its place b/c google chrome doesn't have a 64 bit version.
My post was for those people who may not have realized yet that windows would not ever choose Internet expl. 32 bit over Internet expl. 64 bit if both exist on their system.  For them it is easiest to just choose a default browser that only has a 32 bit version.
If I understood your reply correctly, you were telling me how to create a shortcut to Internet exp. 32 bit on my desk top.  However, having that shortcut on my desk top and opening my browser through it will not prevent the problem of windows choosing my Internet exp. 64 bit browser for pdf's I try to open from the web.  Thank you for your response, but I think the problem that I have tried to explain does exist for many users and can only be fixed by using a 32 bit browser that is not Internet explorer as your default browser.  At some point if windows fixes the update that always chooses Internet expl. 64 bit over Internet expl. 32 bit, then this will all be irrelevant.
    Thanks

  • How to disable "Open in Immersive Browser" in IE 11

    Hello,<o:p></o:p>
I am trying to stop our users from using the Immersive Browser in Windows 8.1 and IE11, as our filtering is done by a local application using a plugin. This BHO does not work in immersive view,
and therefore bypasses all of our black lists and filtering.<o:p></o:p>
Initially I thought setting Internet Explorer to "Always open links in Internet Explorer in the desktop" in GP would disabled the Immersive Brower, however there is an option
under File called "Open in Immersive Browser" which overrides this setting and load the App version.<o:p></o:p>
I used Group Policy to disable the toolbar which worked, however it turns out if you right click on an open Tab you get the same option, thus bypassing our security again.<o:p></o:p>
I would ideally like a GPO setting to remove the "Open in Immersive Browser" option full stop, but as there doesn't appear to be one the next best thing would be a registry fix.<o:p></o:p>
After some investigation I found these keys:<o:p></o:p>
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\http\UserChoice<o:p></o:p>
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\https\UserChoice<o:p></o:p>
If I change the value "ProgID" to anything other "IE.HTTP" it causes the "Open in Immersive Browser” link to open in a new tab, and not the Immersive Browser ..perfect!
So within GP I set “Don’t check if IE is the default browser”, and “don’t inform user if IE is not the default browser” and changed the registry keys “ProgID” to “DisableImmersive” <o:p></o:p>
Unfortunately once again there is a quick and easy work around for our would be hackers. The ” it appears nothing happens. The truth is, behind the scenes IE is overwriting the As such if you
select Open in Immersive Browser a second time, it opens and I am back to square one.
We have mandatory profiles for some users, and I have edited the ntuser.man files for those profiles by loading the hive offline, and removing all permissions to those particular registry keys.
To do this I disabled inheritance and deleting all the remaining permissions. This has worked and as such, this is now my goal for our roaming profiles.<o:p></o:p>
I have looked at RegIni, ICACLS, CACLS, subinacl and SetACL but none seem to allow me to remove inheritance of registry key permissions, or deny access. I am unfamiliar with VB scripts and Power
Shell, but wondered if these would give me the power
to remove access to these keys as part of our logon scripts?<o:p></o:p>
If anyone can help me out with a script to deny access to these keys, or a custom ADM that can remove the link to “Open in Immersive Browser” completely I would be extremely grateful.<o:p></o:p>
    Regards
    Mr..D<o:p></o:p>

    Hello again,
I am sorry this post has raised so many hackles, and that you believe it was posted in the wrong forum. I still don't believe that is the case, as I don't think IE or GP hold the solution.
OK to respond to the last few posts:
I honestly don't believe that Immersive Browser can be fully disabled using group policy, however I will happily try any settings that you think I may have over looked, and report back, as I cannot be the only administrator who would rather it wasn't
used. It would also be a more eloquent solution. I have however already set:
Do not check if IE is the Default Browser
Do not inform user if IE is not the default user.
Open all link in Desktop Mode
    Disable the Toolbar.
The issue is the user can still right click on an open tab (on the tab itself) and select open in Immersive Browser.
As for changing the Registry settings in GP, I agree you can. However it doesn't allow me to prevent them from being changed straight back by IE.
In my tests when a user logs on, Immersive Browser is indeed disabled. However if the user tries to open immersive browser IE immediately overwrites the reg keys back to IE.HPPT. If the user then selects "Open in Immersive Browser" a second time the Immersive
    Browser opens.
This leads to I can change registry permissions in GP. Again yes I can, but not for User Configuration. If I could I would have exactly what I need, however to the best of my knowledge this can only be done for Computer Configuration and therefore HKLM.
OK the next suggestion is to have the users run a REG file with correct permissions set. I absolutely agree, but do not know how to achieve this, hence asking for help with the script.  I have tried exporting the required reg keys and
simply importing them into a users profile at logon. This changes the keys but not the permissions. I would be very interested to learn how to export a reg key with the permissions I want set so I can simply import via logon script. I know I can achieve this
with files and folders using XCOPY etc, but I have no knowledge of how to do this with a registry key.
Finally, Fred. Thank you for your script, it is good of you to point me in this direction when you don't entirely agree with my methods. What is really frustrating is I had looked into this and could not get the first command to work, which thwarted my progress.
On comparing my work to yours, I wasn't completely there but was heading in the right direction. The issue was simply my Syntax. I had missed the : after HKCU ...Very frustrating!
All that said I would still be interested to know if I have in fact overlooked a GP setting to fully disable the Immersive Browser. A way of setting Registry permissions under User Configuration in GP, and or a way of exporting Reg keys with
    permissions intact.
I'm guessing the reality is I have outstayed my welcome and no further help will be forthcoming. If that is indeed the case thank you all for your advise and thank you Fred for the script which has got me sorted out.
    Regards Mr..D

  • Adobe Reader X - Disable "Display PDF in Browser" via Registry

I'm trying to configure my organization's Windows workstations so that web-based PDF files open in Adobe Reader rather than in internet browsers. I have been able to configure Adobe Reader 9 installations to open web-based PDF files in Reader rather than internet browsers by using the following registry setting:
    Hive
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key path
    Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals
    Value name
    bBrowserIntegration
    Value type
    REG_DWORD
    Value data
    0x0 (0)
My problem lies with Adobe Reader X: I used the following settings in attempting to prevent Adobe Reader X installations from opening web-based PDFs in internet browsers:
    Hive
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key path
    Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\Originals
    Value name
    bBrowserIntegration
    Value type
    REG_DWORD
    Value data
    0x0 (0)
    Hive
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key path
    Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\Originals
    Value name
    bAllowByteRangeRequests
    Value type
    REG_DWORD
    Value data
    0x0 (0)
    Hive
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key path
    Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\AVGeneral
    Value name
    bBrowserDisplayInReadMode
    Value type
    REG_DWORD
    Value data
    0x0 (0)
I've only had partial success, though. Internet Explorer respects the registry settings and opens web-based PDFs in Reader X. Firefox 14.0.1, though, ignores the registry settings and opens web-based PDFs in Firefox.
Is there a different registry setting I should be using so that Firefox sees "Display PDF in Browser" unchecked and allows web-based PDFs to be opened in Reader X? Is there another method I should be following for deploying this setting to Adobe Reader X clients?

    Hi,
We'll, you've educated yourself well. Unfortunately, Acrobat products can't control what browsers do so uniform behavior is not possible.  The setting is Adobe's best attempt and forcing some consistency.
The ReadMode setting only controls what happens in the UI after the PDF is open.
