Disabling Popularity Trends and Reindex library in Sharepoint 2013

Hi,
I need to disable "Popularity Trends" option for all items, lists and libraries in SharePoint 2013. Also i need to disable "Reindex library" options in SharePoint 2013 document library Advanced settings. If this is possible, can anyone
ellaborate the steps to achieve these two requirements?

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to disable ‘Popularity Trends’ and ‘Reindex document library’ and ’ Reindex List’buttons for all items in SharePoint 2013.
For disabling ‘Popularity Trends’, you need to deactivate Reporting feature at site collection level as Settings->Site Settings->Site collection features under Site Collection Administration->scroll to Reporting feature, deactivate
it.
For disabling ‘Reindex document library’ and ’ Reindex List’, you can add the following code at the front of
<SharePoint:ScriptBlock runat="server"> in advsetng.aspx
file, the file path is : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS.
The code is :

Save the list as a template and recreate the list usign this template. ID columns will always keep incrementing
and will never be reused.

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to sync only subfolders in a library in SharePoint 2013.
Using SkyDrive Pro you can only sync at document library level. You cannot sync complete site or a single folder in a document library.
With SkyDrive Pro Sync Client, there is no possibility to Sync a partial subset of a document library. By design the entire doc library gets synced and we get local copies of all the files and folders under it.
When a User attempts to sync a sub folder within a Library, the sync tool always picks the parent Library as the Sync point and syncs everything under it. Users are forced to sync the document library as a whole.

Can not specify the SMTP server port, username and password for my SharePoint 2013 web application

We have our SMTP server under port number 141 and we should add username and password. but inside SharePoint 2013, I can only define the SMTP server name , from email, reply-to . But there are not fields to define the port number , the username and password.
So can anyone advice from where I can define the port number and other field settings for the SMTP server ?

SharePoint Item level permission is not been carrying to Folder and Library permission SharePoint 2013

Good Day
I have a document library with multiple folders containing documents.
Security "Group A" views all content.
Security "Group B" gets granted permission from the users in Group A by running a workflow.
Problem:
When users in "group A" runs the workflow on the document level the permission is not carried to the folder and library level.
So users in "Group B" are unable to view the folder or library in which the document is located.

How do I show/refresh data from an Access Web App in an Excel spreadsheet saved in a Document Library on Sharepoint 2013 online

I have an Access 2013 Web App in my Sharepoint 2013 online website. It contains a query to report on its data (several, actually, but let's keep it simple). I want to connect an Excel spreadsheet to the query, visualise the data in pivot tables/graphs/whatever,
save the spreadsheet in a Document Library, and let other team site Sharepoint users open the spreadsheet (preferably in Excel online, but with Excel client if it has to be) and see/copy the data, refreshed with the latest information from the Access Web App.

The way I'm doing it at the moment is to create an ODC file to connect to the cloud-based Access 2013 database, save that ODC in a Data Connection Library in the SP site, and use the saved ODC file as data source in the Excel spreadsheet. This works and
successfully keeps everything 'in the cloud' but I can't get it to refresh in Excel Online, and if I open the spreadsheet in Excel Client I have to enter the database password every time to refresh it. I don't really want to issue this password to everyone
who might want to view the data. There must be a better way than this ODC method, I suspect.
Googlings on this have led down various blind alleys - Excel Services, PowerPivots, Web Parts - but I'm stuck on which to follow through. Please, someone, point me to an article/book/website that explains how to do this step-by-step in simple language..

I don't see any quick way of achieving it - at least there's no such functionality exists in SharePoint. All you can do, develop an event receiver that will update the fields in the list item once the excel file is added/updated. You can use OpenXml API
to manipulate the excel file.

Set unique file name for document library in SharePoint 2013

Hi,
I have document library in the sharepoint 2013 with two dropdown fields-dept name,dept id.
My requirement is to create a namiing convention for each file uploded in the document library.
So the naming convention should be "deptname-deptid-filename-Id".
I tried this naming convention using workflow as below-
In this case ,first I attach the file and then it asks for dept name & id,Whwn i input these value,it shows error message as this file is modified by you at this point of time.On cancel it saves the attached file but does not save the deptname and dept
id.
please help if any idea or suggestion.

The only way I've ever seen this work while adding a new file is to use an Event Reciever. Build an Event
Receiver that fires whenever a file is added and have the code change the name of the file from whatever the user titled it to the naming convention you are using.

I have videos in SharePoint 2013 Asset Library, now i want display that videos in my SharePoint webpage as a webpart.

The Asset library does a pretty good job of hiding the full URL. An "asset" item is actually a folder. The folder contains the video and support files like preview thumbnails.
So, if you upload a video named butterfly.wmv to http://yourSite/sites/demo/Assets the path to the video would be http://yourSite/sites/demo/Assets/butterfly/butterfly.wmv. If the user changed the name while uploading the file to "Pretty bugs"
the URL would then be http://yourSite/sites/demo/Assets/Pretty%20Bugs/butterfly.wmv.
Probably the best way to explore these hidden folders and discover the "real" URL is to use SharePoint Designer 2013.
Launch SharePoint Designer and open your site.
In the Navigation area click "All Files". (If you don't see All Files then your administrators may have partially locked down SPD.)
In the list of files and folders click the Assets library.
Find and click your video (you will see the "Name" as entered in the file's properties, not the file name.)
Find the video file, right-click it and click Properties.
Copy the Location.
If you just want to display the video in the page:
Edit the page
Click INSERT
Click Web Part
From the Media and Content category select Media Web Part and click Add.
Edit the web part (click the web part's dropdown)
From the MEDIA ribbon click Change Media
Click From SharePoint and navigate to your assets library and pick a video

I am planning to setup a internet and intranet website for one of our client. What is the best approach to setup this kind of environment?

Replace FE and APP server in SharePoint 2013 farm

Hello,
We have to replace the front-end web and app server from a SharePoint 2013 farm. The farm only has 1 FE, 1 APP and 1 SQL server. As the FE and APP were wrongly patched and have unsupported software installed there's no way of getting all servers
at same version level and to succesfully run the Product Configuration Wizard. The database server is ok but we have to replace the 2 other servers.
Is there any documented procedure to perform this migration/reinstall?

for first approach.
1- go to central admin and add all roles you need for the server that will stay
2- log into the server you will remove then run configuration wizard and choose disconnect from farm
you will have now one server, you can clean it up and keep it or later remove it when u have the new one

Yes, you can use any client side technology as long it can call SharePoint API and parse result.

Error while uninstalling and then re installing sharepoint 2013 on same server(windows server 2012)

I have installed SharePoint 2013 prerequisites successfully on windows server 2012. While installing SharePoint 2013, system struck on for several minutes. I have restart my system manually. Later I then installed prerequisites which showed a successful
lessage. But When I try to install SharePoint 2013. I am getting the following error:
trial editions and lincensed editions of SharePoint, Project Server, and Office Web apps products may not be installed on the same server.
I am unable to find solution for this issue. what is the solution for this?

To be honest, the quickest thing you could do (and what I would do regardless) is re-build the server (re-install Windows).
