Disappointed with touch photo zooming

Wanted to test a couple of scanned comic pages to view on touch, but when you zoom in, the images are greatly pixelated, this is not the case with Archos.
Does ipod touch re-compress images when loaded??

It sounds like the poster tried to paste the photos into the DCIM folder in My Computer since that is how you can get photos taken by or saved to the iPod into your computer. However the reverse does not work for moving photos from computer to iPod.

    - Reboot the computer
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

I updated my iPod Touch to 6.0.1. -- after much prompting from iTunes. Now my music is GONE (along with apps, photos and podcasts). After syncing a bunch of times some of it came back, but not all of it. How odd is that? How can I get my music back?? I'm really bummed! Everything shows in iTunes, but it's not synching right. So glad I updated. NOT.

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

  • Very disappointed with photo book quality

I created and ordered a photo book using Aperture and am extremely disappointed with the quality. The opening page has a spot of red ink on it with vertical red banding through the center of the image. Many other pages also have the banding.
Most of the images are also very grainy. I know the source images are not at fault, they are very smooth and look nice on my monitor and when I print them. In fact I ordered a few prints through Aperture and they came out really nice. The grain pattern is the same for both full page prints and those that are sized down to about 2x3.
On top of that, the paper quality seems worse than previous books I have created using iPhoto. I was always happy with those books, and I assumed Aperture would be the same if not better.
The books I created with iPhoto were with jpeg images from the same camera, a rebel xt. The only difference this time was most of the images were shot as raw. There was also a small handful jpegs shot with a point and shoot and these have the same grainy pattern as the the raw images.
I sent an email to Apple support, but are others still having book quality issues with the latest version of Aperture 2? This is unacceptable, especially for the amount that is charged. Would it have been better if I exported the images as jpegs, imported them into iPhoto and created the book there?

    Hi guys,
I got a real trouble with aperture book printing.
The cover is Ugly it looks like it's scratched over some miles. It's Mate. And it looks printed with a poor inkjet printer.
Inside the book the photos looks almost correct but in the skies we can see some vertical line. I'm fully unsatisfied I got better result with iphoto books !
Please Apple do something. I ordered this book from France. Ans I saw on different forums that they can get better quality than this outside France.
    The paper looks very light.
I'm considering ordering books from blurb. And I feel sorry cause aperture tool to create a book is awsome.
Did any french photograph experienced this ?
    Regards every one.
    Bye.
PS : I printed the pdf and checked at 100% the photos looks great.

I'm really disappointed with new 5 update.  No music, No photos, No videos, lost all emails.  Anyone know how to get these all back?  Yes, I have synced and synced and synced.  Help

Hopefully it isn't too late for this but:  before performing an update it is really best if you close all apps (double click the home button, click and hold on one of the apps that appears at the bottom of the phone until the red minus sign appears and then tap the minus sign until all apps are closed) and then turn the phone off by holding the standby button until the slider saying "slide to power off" appears and slide it to turn the phone off.  Then turn the phone back on and hook it up to your computer to sync and perform the upgrade.  This also helps if you do this before performing syncs too.  I had problems with an iPod previously where it would fail to backup before sync most times, but have never had a problem with updates or syncs since I started performing this procedure.  Unfortunately, your pre-update backup may have failed and the data in your apps might be gone, but you could try to restore your phone.  If I remember correctly how to do this, you connect it to your computer and check for updates.  It should say you're up to date, but have an option to restore the phone.  If it does, I'd try that.  It may also have a "restore from backup" option you could try.

  • Really disappointed with the Macbook pro

    Hi all,
I purchased a Macbook pro in the middle of January 2011 with some inheritance money. I went for the cheapest one - was going to go for the white macbook like my partner but thought it would be worth the extra money to upgrade to the pro. It was the first time i had made the move from PC to Mac, but was fairly familiar with the systems having owned an ipod touch for a while and my partner also having a macbook.
4 months on...and i have to say I am really really disappointed with my Macbook pro and certainly not worth over £1000 i paid for it. This is mainly because:
i find that after a while of watching movies (15 - 20 mins), the video starts to "stutter" and the mouse jumps when i try to move it. I thought this was only the case on flash-based websites (like Youtube - although there is no problem on my partners basic macbook) so installed click2flash. I have since come to realise that it also happens whilst watching DVDs etc. I also thought it may be when the battery is low, but it happens even when it is plugged in. I cant understand how it happens on mine but not my partners even though my Pro is supposed to be a high spec (isnt it???)
I use Garageband and often record myself by mic input over the top of backing tracks that i import into the program. I have to record with no effects on my voice to begin with whatsoever , nor the backing track, and have to minimise the garageband window to the dock as when it is open and scrolling, i get the "Part of the project was not played. This project has too many tracks, effects, or notes to be played in real-time." error.
The other day, i noticed my macbook pro would not burn CD-Rs (both music Cds and MP3s) and later realised that i could burn anything up to 6 or so tracks (about 20-25 minutes worth of audio). After trawling the forums, trying slower burn speeds, different brands of CD-R and lens cleaning cds (which froze in my macbook) I still have a faulty disc drive. I have now discovered that the end tracks of some audio cds i have will not play so is obviously something wrong with the drive.
I'm very frustrated and can't help but wonder if maybe i should have just got a £500 windows laptop instead!
Any help and feedback would be much appreciated. Are Apple Support good at dealing with stuff like this? Am i best calling and discussing over the phone or taking it in to a Genius bar? I have also ran all the latest software updates.
    Thanks!
    Tom

    >the video starts to "stutter" and the mouse jumps when i try to move it.
That's the fault of the video format you are viewing.  It probably caches itself to the hard disk, and the sudden motion sensor gets triggered by the hard drive, if you give it any innertia.  You could create a RAM Disk with any of a number of solutions you can Google.
And DVD drives don't like being bounced around.   See what I have to say about CD failure below too.   Anything can cause a disc to get unbalanced, and not play back right.   I would not attempt to play DVDs while the machine is in motion, as you can damage the DVD drive of any machine that is.
Garageband has its own forum here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/garageband where someone can tell you if there is a setting you missed to improve the recordings.
CD Burning is a menace throughout the industry because a lot of media is not very high quality.  See my FAQ*:

  • Universal Dock's remote doesn't work with iPhone Photos

Has anyone tried Universal Dock's remote with iPhone Photos? I can't get it to work.
The remote does work with iPhone music and video though.

i just bought this dock as a car dock. I have it hooked up to power 12v and output to 1/8 into head unit. Now, I have to be in iTunes music to get it to work and it only allows volume, playing of files in a playlist and to next song. Are any of you guys having issues with VERY limited use of the remote and lack of really a benefit from using a remote because you have to touch it anyways to change through songs or video??? Are you guys wondering why you even bought it if the remote is not supported as a functional addition?

  • Big Disappointment with iMac Intel (Late 2006) and Apple ProCare.

I've been a Mac user, Mac enthusiast, and Mac advocate for over 15 years. I've owned multiple Macs. One of my latest acquisitions was an Intel iMac in October 2006.
A few weeks ago, the iMac started freezing and shutting down intermittently. After days of online discussions trying to figure out the problem, I finally ran out of patience, and took the iMac to my local Apple Store on 7/23/07.
Two days later, I was told that the Logic Board needed to be replaced. It's been two weeks, and every time I contact the Apple Store, I am told that they are still waiting for the part.
Meanwhile I am left without the main computer in my house, where I store all my documents, music, photos and videos. In addition, I have a ProCare membership, and even purchased the Extended 3-year warranty. In this age of instant communication and express delivery, I cannot understand why it would take two weeks to get a part from Apple.
I am very disappointed with the Apple Care for a company with such a high reputation for service.
What are my rights as a consumer? How long do I have to wait before they offer me a replacement. How do I go about requesting a replacement?

"The question still remains: How long am I going to be in repair mode before the Apple store decides to offer a replacement?"
    Hello Herold Merisier!
The answer is that since each case may be different, there is no real set policy in this regard, with decision making and customer satisfaction in the hands of managers.
I'm surprised to hear that there is any difficulty at all getting that logic board. I just don't believe that there is any shortage, and it does not take two weeks to get one there, unless no one cares about you, which would be an unacceptable attitude. There must be something else at play in this situation.
I would guess that due to an inability to handle the work in-Store, the repair of your iMac has been handed over to an AASP, either to be performed at the AASP or somewhere on the Store premises.
Due to the disruption of the iPhone events, the repair of your iMac might have dropped off the radar screen of the Apple Store's Manager, and also of the Manager of the AASP. The problem may be an overworked AASP (not your fault), with some lower level employee there trying to pass the buck back to the Store through their lower level employees, and then on to you.
If such is the case, the job of Managers and Assistant Managers is to be aware of such things and manage them, therefore your circumstance is extremely disappointing. The first thing to do is not to try and lay blame, but make certain that the Store Manager is personally aware of your situation, and (unless you know it's already been done) to ask that all your paperwork details be verified - that your warranty and AppleCare are actually registered and in effect for your iMac, that your ProCare is recognized as being on the record, and that your iMac's repair is not accidentally misplaced, but will now be given Priority. In doing that, someone might discover the cause of your delay.
I would guess that the Manager of your Apple Store is also not aware of your exact situation, as it almost sounds as if the Manager is on vacation, or something very much worse:(
Considering the iMac product line and the age and needs of your iMac, the cost to Apple and the Manager of the Apple Store to fully satisfy you in this case will be absolutely negligible. If it's possible for you to speak to the Store Manager today or tomorrow, I'd be surprised if your iMac, or a replacement, isn't in your hands by Wednesday at the latest.
If you are unable to speak to the actual Store Manager, and if the Assistant Manager to whom you then speak is unable or unwilling to resolve this for you within 24 hours, you should call AppleCare's toll free number and ask to speak to an AppleCare Manager about your lack of service problem and what the bottleneck might possibly be.

  • Using an external editor with Apple Photos

After upgrading to Os X 10.10.3 today and using the new Apple Photos app for the first time, I was very disappointed not to find a way to edit photos in an external editor, as I could do with iPhoto. Sure, I can export the image file, edit it in another program, save it, and then re-import it, but that is somewhat of a kludge IMO compared to the smooth way this function worked in iPhoto.  I'm happy with the expanded editing options available within Apple Photos, but some things simply can't be done within it. Please, Apple, make adding this capability a priority task for the first upgrade to Apple Photos! Or is it available already and I just missed it?
    Regards, Jim

In my case,  I open Photoshop Elements, then choose Open File.  I find the photo that I want to work with under "Photos".  When I am finished editing, I save the file to "Pictures" giving it a name I can remember.  Then I import it into the new version of iPhoto (called Photos) from "Pictures".
The Media Browser in the Media section of the Sidebar is very convenient to use the library in other apps, but it will not always pass the original Master file to the When you are using the Media Browser like this, you will get mixed results, depending on whether the photo already has been edited or not.
When I pass a photo to PSE using the "Photos" icon in the Media section to PSE
For an unedited photo, PSE will receive the original master file, not as copy, but the original in the Masters folder in the library.
For an edited photo it will receive an optimised version and not the original file, stored in "resources > modelressources" in your photos library.  As far as I can see, the photos in "modelressources" are the same pixel size, but have a higher JPEG compression than the originals in the Master folder.  The file size is slightly less.
So, for edited photos you may be using a lesser quality image file, when you access the library using the Media Browser.
Be careful, when you open unedited photos this way. With "Save as" in PSE you can write your edits directly back to the Masters folder and overwrite the original master file.
I just tried to edit an unedited photo this way in PSE:
That is how the Photo looked in Photos before editing:
After editing a frame in PSE 12 I am seeing this "Save As" dialog in PSE:
It will write back to the Photos library into the Masters folder.
After allowing PSE to overwrite file it received the file, I am seeing this, when I try to edit the version.  Photos is now using the replaced original file, that PSE wrote to the Masters folder.
I duplicated the photo in Photos before sending it to PSE, but since the duplicate is sharing the same original file with the first version, now bothe the first image and its unedited duplicate are both showing the frame added in PSE:

  • Epson Stylus Photo RX680 with Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter 2 won't pair

This post describes my problem, but I couldn't reply since it has been archived:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7882399&#7882399
I am having the same issue with an Epson Stylus Photo RX680 and their Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter 2. I go to System Preferences -> Bluetooth -> Set Up New Device, click Continue, select Printer, and click Continue. At this point, the Bluetooth Setup Assistant sends me to the Print & Fax System Preferences window. I can add the printer under the Bluetooth heading. It finds the drivers and adds the printer to my printers list, but a test page (or anything else) won't print. The job is added to the queue, but it stops trying to print after a few seconds. If I go to the Bluetooth System Preferences, I can see the printer listed (for a while), and I notice that it is connected but not paired.
If I run the Bluetooth Setup Assistant and select Any Device instead of Printer, I see the printer in the list and can view the Passkey options. It is set to "Use a specific passkey", which is what I need. I have tried changing it to a different option and then changing it back, but it does not seem like this has an effect on how the printer is paired. I have never been asked for a passkey when attempting to add this printer, and I suspect that this is why I cannot print to it.
I have also tried enabling and disabling Bluetooth sharing, and this does not seem to have an effect, whether "require pairing" is checked or not. Isn't there some place where I can choose "Pair this device" once it has been discovered? I find it strange that I can connect to it but have no option to pair afterward (at least that I can find). To make the matter more complicated, the printer disappears from the device list in the Bluetooth System Preferences after about 30 seconds, so I have to remove the printer and reinstall it in order to see the it in the list again.
I am able to print to this printer using bluetooth from a Windows XP machine, so I don't think that there is a problem with the adapter. I am also able to print to this printer using USB, so I don't think that there is a driver problem. I believe (though I certainly could be wrong) that the issue is that the device is not paired. Can anybody help?
    Thank you.
    -Kyle

I was trying to find a way to use the Epson drivers because the Gutenprint drivers don't support duplexing or feeding out of the front tray on this printer, but at least this got bluetooth printing working. I downloaded the latest Gutenprint drivers (5.2.2), ran the uninstall program first to get rid of the old drivers, and then installed the new ones. I added the printer through the bluetooth heading in the Add Printer dialog, and I selected the RX680 Gutenprint driver (which was not available with the default OS X 10.5.5 installation). Once again, the printer showed up as connected but not paired in the Bluetooth System Preferences, and it disappeared from the device list after a few seconds, but printing works now. The print quality for this printer is much improved by the new drivers as well.
Bluetooth setup is mentioned in the user documentation. It's kind of a joke:
Macintosh computer: Double-click Bluetooth File Exchange in your Utilities folder and follow the on-screen instructions.
That's it. I have been disappointed with this printer on a number of occasions. If you are going to connect directly through USB, then it's probably fine. If you want to use any form of network connectivity, you had better be running Windows on any machine involved.
I'll talk with Epson support to see if I can get any further with their drivers. Since it's supposed to work, I'd like to see if I can get it to happen. Otherwise, I'll return the adapter and share the printer through a spare desktop.

  • Problem with iCloud Photo Streaming to 3 OS6 devices?

I have 3 OS6 devices with 3 different iCloud accounts, 2 iPhones and an iPod touch. Photo Stream will work between iPhone 1 and ipod touch and vise versa, but neither will connect by invite to the 2nd iPhone. The 2nd iPhone won't connect either to the other 2 devices?
All settings are the same, The only possibilty I can think of is that the 2nd iPhone's iCloud account has become corrupted? Any suggestions?

  • Inconsistent results using the "places" view on the iPad with geotagged photos

I am getting inconsistent results with geotagged photos on the iPad (both 1 and 2) OS 5.01.  It seems that sometime photos will show up in the correct location on the places view others will not ( they will not show up at all).  In fact I can have a geotagged photo in one folder, synch with iTunes and it will not show up in the places view and then move that same picture to a different folder (which becomes an album on the iPad) re-synch and it will now show up at the correct location in the places view.  All photos show up in the album view.  Everything is the latest version iTunes, iPad etc.  I can also have many photos geotagged exactly to the same location (exact same coordinates) some will show up, others will not.
I have used different methods to geotag my photos.  At first I was using Photoshop Elements 8 until they stopped supporting geotagging photos.  Now I am using a third party application GeoSetter (excellent free application).  The GPS data is clearly in the Exif data but the results are not consistent.
    Any ideas?

I believe I have solved this problem myself and thought others might benefit from what I found.  It turns out to be what I believe as a glitch in iTunes.  iTunes creates a cache of all the photos that you synch with your iPad, iPhone etc.  Apparently it does not update that cache when you change the photo.  At least not the Geotagging data.  The file modify date was changing but that wasn't enough to cause iTunes to update the cache of the photos.  I deleted the cache of all the photos and re-synched and presto now all my photos where showing up at the correct location in the iPad "places" view.
I might add that I called Apple tech support and was routed to a higher tier support person and was very disappointed with his response.  He basically told me that the "place" view in the iPad and iPhone was designed to be only used with an Apple computer and Apple software and was surprised the places view was working at all with pictures synched with a Windows based machine.  He also said he was unable to help me since he couldn't provide support for non-Apple products.  Although I understand this to a point I think he was too quick to make this decision.  The solution after all was a simple one and one I think he should have known.  I would think this cache problem would happen whether I was using Apple products as well.  I view this as a bug in iTunes.  Apple needs to compare the modified date of the file and update the cache if it has changed.
