Discover AS 10g running against 9i Database

We are currently using Oracle 9i Release 2 of the Application Server and an Oracle 9i (9.2.0.4) database.
We plan to upgrade the application server to 10g, however,
the database will not be upgraded at this time. We have
a requirement for users to use discoverer to report on
data over the web using Discoverer 10g. Do you know of
any problems or restrictions with running Discoverer 10g
and installing the EUL into a 9i database.

This is supported and certified combination.

  • Compiling against developer database, running against production database??

    Hello :-)
    In our company we have a developer- , a test- and a production database, like most of us, I think... :-)
    In former times it was usual to compile forms against the database, that they are running against. But nowadays this is because of new security rules very difficult. Developers have all rights on the developer database, a few on test and nearly none on the production database and even our DBA is (officially) not allowed to use/know the sys password.
    The developer and the production database are very similar (both 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit, Linux), but not totally equal. Of course there are differences in database objects, because it's the developer database, there could be differences in installed patches, and the production database consists of 4 Clusters, the developer database not.
    Is it enough to compile the forms (6i and also 10g) against the developer database and run the compiled forms against the production database or should we compile the forms, that go in production, strictly against the production database, which is a bit difficult because of our security rules???
    Regards,
    Udo

    Hello, Francois!
    Thanks for your answer, but that was not exactly what I meant...
    What you describe is, how it should be :-)
    We develop, deliver the forms and scripts and "someone" compiles them against the production database.
    But our problem is that it would be a lot of "paperwork"(?) each time(!) to get the authorization to get the required rights on the production database to compile all objects.
    We have no "production team" that has all these rights and are not allowed to do so...
    So I just want to have your experiences, if it is enough to compile against the developer database???
    I have made the experience that probably 98-99% works fine, but sometimes there are strange things happening (like not passing variables from one form to another, when a form is compiled against the developer database and the attached library for example is compiled against the production database)...

    Udo

  • To retrieve number of reports run against a database

    Hi .i'm trying to get details of reports that run against a target database...is there any way of getting this detail ? ..Appreciate the help

    If the target database is the only selection criteria you will probably get the best results using the database logging and tracing facilities as in BusinessOjects there isn't any pre-defined function or Activity detail to reports on this

  • Help me to fix the error while running DBMaintain Against the Database Schema in ASE.

    Hi All,
    I am trying to install sybase mobiliser platform 5.1 SP 03.I am  referring the following guide
    http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/topic/com.sybase.infocenter.dc01871.0513/pdf/Mobiliser_Platform_Installation_Guide_5.1…
    Now I have configured the ASE database server with default settings and now it is running fine.
    Now my concerns are as follows:
    1) I have executed the database schema (mobr5): 001_MONEY_drop_and_create_user.DDL with the help of linux command

  • Can't run non-UNICODE-DbSl against UNICODE database

    Hi everyone. I get this error during the update of Solution Manager 7.1 SPS4 (dual stack) to SPS10. It is a green install. This happens during the
    phase PREP_EXTRACT/PREIMP! Of the ABAP stack. Step 5.2. I do not see a lot of people with this problem, so I assume it is something I am doing wrong, as it is my first time using the tool SUM.

    Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 64 bit SP1
    Central installation type with all components on
    the same host
    Kernel level 600
    Here is what I have done so far:
    Downloaded the media as described in the installation
    guide.
    Worked my way through the install using the
    Software Provision Manager 1.0
    Updated the Kernel from level 401 to 600, by
    copying the files from the download folder to the F:\usr\sap\SM1\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64
    folder. This is the folder that is assigned to the DIR_CT_RUN parameter.
    I start the STARTUP.BAT file in the SUM folder.
    I then start the SUM GUI and run through the
    steps and in step 3 I map the Stack configuration file (XML) to one listed in
    the folder “51047130\DATA” called “SPS10_stack.xml”
    Then I
    get to 5.2 where the system stops with this error:

  • How to run a select against multiple databases

    Dear experts,
    I need to run a select against all our databases, which are running on a separate server each.
    I found this:
    Looping between multiple servers for SQL*Plus
    which seemed to be doing the trick, but it relies on /etc/oratab, but in our environment this file
    is not in use, i.e.
    /var/opt/oracle/oratab - this file has comments only and does not contain any real entries
    /oracle/<SID>/11203/install/oratab - this file has 0 size
    Thank you!

    Hello
    Database link is a good technique for running a query against multiple database, but you will need to statically define the DB you want to access.
    Best regards
    CREATE DATABASE LINK dev_link CONNECT TO system IDENTIFIED BY password
    USING '(DESCRIPTION =  (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =sapdev)(PORT = 1527)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = DEV) ) )';
    select * from sapsr3.REORGJOBS@dev_link;
    drop database link  dev_link;

  • Running a reports against different databases

    I have written a report that uses a ref cur in a database package to derive the main query. I've compiled the report and it runs fine.
    The problem is when I try to run it against a database other than the one it was compiled against (i.e. compile against DEV DB, test against TEST DB, finally migrate to PROD DB). Each of these databases are identical in terms of their objects but if I run the report against an environment it wasn't compiled against I get the following messages:
    REP-1437 Run time error in the PL/SQL development environment (DE).
    PDE-PSD001 Could not resolve reference to <Unknown Program Unit> while loading <unknown> <unknown>
    I noticed initially that the report and the database package had the same name, I though this may be confusing things so I renamed the stored proc but I still get the same results.
    I can get around the problem by either re-compiling it against each database or by getting the form to call the .rdf (rather than the .rep) so it is recompiled as and when required but this doesn't seem right.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Steve,
    You can try using the RECURSIVE_LOAD parameter. By default, it is set to YES. If you are running with the .rep, set it to NO on your command line. What this means, is that it will not try to recompile the plsql in your report.
    Hope that helps,
    Toby

  • Find the current sql which is running against database

    Hi,
    How to find out the current sql which is running against database?

    Hi,
    You can use V$SESSION_LONG_OPS and V$SQL to get the long running(6 seconds or above) queries. You need to join these two views to get the SQL text.
    V$SESSION_LONGOPS : Will give you the long running SQL ID.
    V$SQL : Will give you the text of query against the SQL ID.

  • Reports fail when run against a different data source

    Hello,
    We have a VB.NET 2008 WinForms application running on Microsoft .NET 3.5. We are using Crystal Reports 2008 runtime, service pack 3 -- using the CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms.CrystalReportViewer in the app to view reports. In the GAC on all our client computers, we have versions 12.0.1100.0 and 12.0.2000.0 of CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, CrystalDecisions.Shared, and CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms.
    Please refer to another one of our posted forum issues, u201CCritical issue since upgrading from CR9 to CR2008u201D, as these issues seem to be related:
    Critical issue since upgrading from CR9 to CR2008
    We were concerned with report display slow down, and we seemed to have solved this by using the Oracle Server driver (instead of either Microsoft's or Oracle's OLEDB driver).  But now we must find a resolution to another piece of the puzzle, which is:  why does a report break if one data source is embedded in the .rpt file is different than the one you are trying to run the report against, in the .NET Viewer?
    Problem:
    If you have a production database name (e.g. "ProdDB") embedded in your .rpt file that you built your report from and try to run that report against a development database (e.g. "DevDB") (OR VICE VERSA -- it is the switch that is the important concept here), the report fails with a list of messages such as this:
        Failed to retrieve data from the database
        Details:  [Database vendor code: 6550 ]
    This only seems to happen if the source of the report data (i.e. the underlying query) is an Oracle stored procedure or a Crystal Reports SQL Command -- the reports run fine against all data sources if the source is a table or a view).  In trying different things to troubleshoot this, including adding a ReportDocument.VerifyDatabase() call after setting the connection information, the Crystal Reports viewer will spit out other nonsensical errers regarding being unable to find certain fields (e.g. "The field name is not known), or not able to find the table (even though the source data should be coming from an Oracle stored procedure, not a table).
    When the reports are run in the Crystal Reports Designer, they run fine no matter what database is being used; but the problem only happens while being run in the .NET viewer.  It's almost as if something internally isn't getting fully "set" to the new data source, or something -- we're really grasping at straws here.
    For the sake of completeness of information, here is how we're setting the connection information
            '-- Set database connection info for the main report
            For Each oConnectionInfo In oCrystalReport.DataSourceConnections
                oConnectionInfo.SetConnection(gsDBDataSource, "", gsDBUserID, gsDBPassword)
            Next oConnectionInfo
            '-- Set database connection info for each subreport
            For Each oSubreport In oCrystalReport.Subreports
                For Each oConnectionInfo In oSubreport.DataSourceConnections
                    oConnectionInfo.SetConnection(gsDBDataSource, "", gsDBUserID, gsDBPassword)
                Next oConnectionInfo
            Next oSubreport
    ... but in troubleshooting, we've even tried an "overkill" approach and added this code as well:
            '-- Set database connection info for each table in the main report
            For Each oTable In oCrystalReport.Database.Tables
                With oTable.LogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo
                    .ServerName = gsDBDataSource
                    .UserID = gsDBUserID
                    .Password = gsDBPassword
                    For Each oPair In .LogonProperties
                        If UCase(CStr(oPair.Name)) = "DATA SOURCE" Then
                            oPair.Value = gsDBDataSource
                            Exit For
                        End If
                    Next oPair
                End With
                oTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(oTable.LogOnInfo)
            Next oTable
            '-- Set database connection info for each table in each subreport
            For Each oSubreport In oCrystalReport.Subreports
                For Each oTable In oSubreport.Database.Tables
                    With oTable.LogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo
                        .ServerName = gsDBDataSource
                        .UserID = gsDBUserID
                        .Password = gsDBPassword
                        For Each oPair In .LogonProperties
                            If UCase(CStr(oPair.Name)) = "DATA SOURCE" Then
                                oPair.Value = gsDBDataSource
                                Exit For
                            End If
                        Next oPair
                    End With
                    oTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(oTable.LogOnInfo)
                Next oTable
            Next oSubreport
    ... alas, it makes no difference.  If we run the report against a database that is different than the one specified with "Set Datasource Location" in Crystal, it fails with nonsense errors

    Thanks for the reply, Ludek.  We have made some breakthroughs, uncovered some Crystal bugs and workarounds, and we're probably 90% there I hope.
    For your first point, unfortunately the information on the Oracle 6550 error was generic, and not much help in our case.  And for your second point, the errors didn't have anything to do with subreports at that time -- the error would manifest itself even in a simple, one-level report.
    However, your third point (pointing us to KB 1553921) helped move us forward quite a bit more.  For the benefit of all, here is a link to that KB article:
    Link: [KB 1553921|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333533353333333933323331%7D.do]
    We downloaded the tool referenced there, and pointed it at a couple of our reports.  The bottom line is that the code it generated uses a completely new area of the Crystal Reports .NET API which we had not used before -- in the CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer namespace.  Using code based on what that RasConnectionInfo tool generated, we were able gain greater visibility into some of the objects in the API and to uncover what I think qualifies as a genuine bug in Crystal Reports.
    The CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.ISCRTable class exposes a property called QualifiedName, something that isn't exposed by the more commonly-used CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table class.  When changing the data source with our old code referenced above (CrystalDecisions.Shared.ConnectionInfo.SetConnection), I saw that Crystal would actually change the Table.QualifiedName from something like "SCHEMAOWNER.PACKAGENAME.PROCNAME" to just "PROCNAME" (essentially stripping off the schema and package name).  Bad, Crystal...  VERY BAD!  IMHO, Crystal potentially deserves to be swatted on the a** with the proverbial rolled-up newspaper.
    I believe this explains why we were also able to generate errors indicating that field names or tables were not found -- because Crystal had gone and changed the QualifiedName to remove some key info identifying the database object!  So, knowing this and using the code generated by the RasConnectionInfo tool, we were able to work around this bug with code that worked for most of our reports ("most" is the key word here -- more on that in a bit).
    So, first of all, I'll post our new code.  Here is the main area where we loop through all of the tables in the report and subreports:
    '-- Replace each table in the main report with new connection info
    For Each oTable In oCrystalReport.ReportClientDocument.DatabaseController.Database.Tables
        oNewTable = oTable.Clone()
        oNewTable.ConnectionInfo = GetNewConnectionInfo(oTable)
        oCrystalReport.ReportClientDocument.DatabaseController.SetTableLocation(oTable, oNewTable)
    Next oTable
    '-- Replace each table in any subreports with new connection info
    For iLoop = 0 To oCrystalReport.Subreports.Count - 1
        sSubreportName = oCrystalReport.Subreports(iLoop).Name
        For Each oTable In oCrystalReport.ReportClientDocument.SubreportController.GetSubreportDatabase(sSubreportName).Tables
            oNewTable = oTable.Clone()
            oNewTable.ConnectionInfo = GetNewConnectionInfo(oTable)
            oCrystalReport.ReportClientDocument.SubreportController.SetTableLocation(sSubreportName, oTable, oNewTable)
        Next oTable
    Next iLoop
    '-- Call VerifyDatabase() to ensure that the tables update properly
    oCrystalReport.VerifyDatabase()
    (Thanks to Colin Stynes for his post in the following thread, which describes how to handle the subreports):

  • Need help for importing oracle 10G dump into 9i database

    hi, Someone help me to import oracle 10G dump into 9i database. I'm studying oracle . Im using oracle 10G developer suite(downloaded from oracle) and oracle 9i database. I saw some threads tat we can't import the higher version dumps into lower version database. But i'm badly need help for importing the dump...
    or
    someone please tell me the site to download oracle 9i Developer suite as i can't find it in oracle site...

    I didnt testet it to import a dump out of a 10g instance into a 9i instance if this export has been done using a 10g environment.
    But it is possible to perform an export with a 9i environment against a 10g instance.
    I am just testing this with a 9.2.0.8 environment against a 10.2.0.4.0 instance and is working so far.
    The system raises an EXP-00008 / ORA-37002 error after exporting the data segments (exporting post-schema procedural objects and actions).
    I am not sure if it is possible to perform an import to a 9i instance with this dump but maybe worth to give it a try.
    It should potentially be possible to export at least 9i compatible objects/segments with this approach.
    However, I have my doubts if this stunt is supported by oracle ...

    How deep is a hole?
    How long does it take to read an unknown number of blocks containing an unknown number of rows from an unknown disk system with an unknown contention load, pulling it across an network of unknown bandwidth and unknown load ....
    And I'm not saying that if you somehow provide all this that the answer can be known. I'm saying the too much of the information tht would be needed to make such an estimate is unknowable. Much of it will be widely variable from one execution of the query to the next execution of the exact same query. Which leaves you with exactly what to base your estimate on?
    Without even seeing your query, I can tell you with absolute certainty that it will take between 1 nano-second and 100 years to execute.

  • Compile Form against UTF8 Database

    Hello,
    Is it necessary to compile a Form against UTF8 Database to run it against UTF8 Database?
    I'm on Forms 10.1.2.0.2 and Database 10.2.0.3.
    Database Parameters are:
    NLS_CHARSET=UTF8
    NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS=CHAR
    Can I compile a Form against WE8MSWIN1252 Database (NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS Parameter of the DB is also set to CHAR and when compiling the form the environment variable is also set to CHAR), and run the form against UTF8 Database (including the needed .env file in the formsweb.cfg), or do I have to set NLS_LANG and recompile the form against UTF8 database?
    thx and regards,
    Christian

    Well I thought that I have to ask support...But I hoped someone had some experiences with that.
    But here are some troubles I had with UTF8, maybe it helps someone, if not it's a nice type-in training ;-):
    We had some very strange behaviours regarding forms with UTF8 databases, so the first believe was, that I have to generate against UTF8 database.
    Well - the bad thing was the NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS parameter, which we set to CHAR for UTF8, and also for WE8, for the reason that a VARCHAR2(255) can really contain 255 chars, and not maybe 255/3 chars...
    As the strange "Signature of Package has been changed" error which occured in UTF8 also occured in WE8, I did some researches.
    The problem occured, when I had a record type (no %rowtype, no %type) declared in a database package spec, instanciated in forms, and given as a parameter to another stored procedure.
    scenario:
    forms compiled with NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS=CHAR, the package created and compiled with NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS=CHAR; => correct behaviour.
    now in sqlplus:
    alter session set NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS=BYTE;
    alter package <recordpackage> compile;
    and run the form again => ora-4062.
    but as said: after some time this behaviour also happened in WE8.... Charset, and at the moment I didn't have any other troubles...hm...I'll have to do some checks.
    but thanks for your response
    regards

    Able to create Unvierse, and Universe Connection to the Access Database through ODBC, but unable to run Web-I reports, when tried we get the following error
    A database error occured. The database error text is: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path.  Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.. (WIS 10901)
    Did anyone tried to develop Web-I reports from Access database on a network drive, if so I request you to provide us details and your findings
    Thank you

    We run the designer on the same machine where BOBJ runs and also on other client machines, from disigner it works fine,
    The service account which is used to run BO Application Services has full control access to the network location and folder where the database resides
    We can run / refresh Desk-I and Web-I rich client but cannot run web-i reports against access database
