Discover Desktop Question.

hi,
i've installed discoverer desktop edition on a client.
i made necessary changes to tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora
when i try to login using user disco01/disco01@testgl
i get an error saying, you don't have access to any end user layer tables.
the same things works on the server where i've installed discoverer with admin and desktop.
the only difference is the versions.
the desktop edition on the client machine is 9.0.4, where as the one on the server is 10.1.2.3 (this was patched sometime back by an other dba)
in options, i've checked the option to connect to both standard and application eul and given the gateway userid and foundation name.
in 10.1.2.3 edition, there was a tab for selecting the default EUL to login. but i don't have that option in 9.0.4.
is that the reason?
if so, how do i set the default eul in 9.0.4?
can this be upgraded to 10.1.2.3? i don't think this is feasible, since i need to install this on 34 clients
thanks,
jazz

Jazz,
What is the application release?
is that the reason?I believe so.
if so, how do i set the default eul in 9.0.4? What is the version of Discoverer you have installed on the server?
can this be upgraded to 10.1.2.3? i don't think this is feasible, since i need to install this on 34 clientsTry to upgrade Discoverer administrator on one client, and see if you can access the EUL.
Please refer to the following documents for the complete steps you need to follow. The version of the Discoverer administrator you need to install on the clients is also mentioned in these documents.

  • Difference between Discover Desktop, Plus, Viewer

What is the Difference between Discover Desktop, Plus, Viewer,
i think these are all for Business User only,,,,and Discoverer Administrator is not for Business user..
    Suresh

    Hi Suresh
You're right, up to a point.
Administrator is certainly not a user tool, whereas Plus and Viewer and certainly not used by admistrators. However, because one Desktop license comes with every Administrator license, Desktop is not only used by end users. It can be used for administrators for testing out new functionality that has been added. Administrators do this rather than having to log into Plus to test out a new business area.
Desktop has far less functionality than Plus, although both are report creation tools, whereas Viewer is what it says it is - a report viewing tool.
A few months ago Russ Proudman, once of the main answerer of questions in the forums, went though an exercise with the members of the forum identifying the differences between the tools. You'll find the results on Russ' website here: http://www.proudman.homestead.com/files/disco_diffs.html

  • Forms 9i / Report 9i in client server vs Discover Desktop

    Hi,
I would like to know how I can deploy an application (forms 9i and reports 9i) without 9iAS Enterprise.
I only want to develop forms and reports for a standalone user. I want to sell my application to many customers, each customer will use the application in standalone mode.
Somebody at Oracle Toronto told me that Discover Desktop is the runtime of oracle forms 9i and oracle reports 9i in client/server mode. Is it right?
I want to run a stand alone application at the lowest cost, without buying the licences of IAS Entreprise (who cost 560$CDN X 10 licences minimum). Oracle said Discover Desktop cost 1400$CDN/user and I can buy only one license.
Is it possible to use Discover Desktop as runtime of forms and reports?
Is there an other possibility to run forms and reports application at a lower cost?
What do you suggest to me?
    Thanks.

To run Forms and Reports you must be running 9iAS Enterprise edition. The licence for those products is part of EE only not any other edition of iAS

  • CM12 Agent Remote Desktop Question

    Hello,
does anyone know why MS started the CM12 Agent Remote Desktop delayed?
I am searching for a documentation where i can read about it. in CM07 was the service not delayed but in CM12 since SP1.
    Thanks a lot

You will not find answers to 'why' questions in any documentation ;-) The only answer that comes close is: "because Microsoft decided to design it that way". You can change the startup type by using a GPO though.

  • Desktop question

I am looking at new computers for game playing. I found the HP Pavilion p7-1154 Desktop & 23" LED Monitor Package on the website and I am wondering if this will be able to handle World of Warcraft or any other games I might decide to try in the future.
It has a ATI Radeon HD 6350D graphics card;  AMD quad-core A6-3600 accelerated processor; 6GB DDR3 memory; and 1TB hard drive.

It won't be mind blowing but it will play it. Wow can be played on pretty darn low settings on most machines. The good thing about that unit is that it is cheap enough that you could upgrade the power supply and graphics card in the future and have a pretty solid machine, but still have it work in the mean time.

  • Macbook Desktop Question

    Hello,
I am new to the Macbook just converted from PC! It is hard getting used to the system but i am trying to learn. I watch alot of youtube videos and i have seen that everyone has a hard drive icon on their desktop. Why is that? Is that a default? Thank-you!

Niel gave you the answer in his terse reply above. I can restate it as a recipe:
Click on a blank spot on the desktop to make the Finder active.
On the Finder Menu, choose Preferences.
In the General tab, check the checkboxes for what you would like to see on the desktop.

  • Extended desktop question

I have my macbook connected to an external 17" LCD display, and I have the extended desktop working just fine.
I was wondering though, is there anyway to "copy" things like the menubar, dock and icons from the main display to the extended?
Right now I have just a big empty display I can move windows onto, but to access application menus I have to switch back over to the primary.
I don't want to mirror though, as I want the extra real-estate.

What you do is open the Displays System Preference and go to the Arrangement (I think that's it) tab. Then all you do is drag the menu bar in the pictures from the MacBook screen to your 17" screen. You might need to apply the change and restart at this point (I'm doing it off memory as I'm sure you can tell) but that's it.
From this point on your 17" display will become the primary and the MacBook will be the secondary "blank" display.

  • Referenced library on laptop-put on desktop question

I was working on a library on laptop, referenced files that are in a folder on 'desktop' of the laptop.
I put those files on my g5 home desk computer and the whole laptop library, started up aperture and all the files are in the aperture library, as I named them, etc......
But all the images say "image offline"
I tried consolidation and locating, but no work.
How can I get the files to work so I can continue to edit them on my home desk top mac??

The item you want is Manage Referenced Files under the File menu.
If the images really are available to the machine on which you're running Aperture, you can use the rather complicated Manage Referenced Files to correct Aperture's sense of where they are.
Much about this isn't obvious, and some small bits of it (having to do with .psd files under some circumstances) don't work. But essentially, you open that item, select one image in the top panel from the list of images that Aperture can't find, then in the lower panel navigate to where the image really is and select it, and then press Reconnect All (not just Reconnect, which would do only the selected image).

  • Discover Desktop Batch /pt command - what to put in 'driver'?

I need to use the Discoverer Desktop batch command option /pt rather than /p because my server seems to keep losing my default printer selection. So the /pt option allows me to specify which printer. Great!
But /pt requires me to specify printer (good), driver (???), and port (no problem). I have no idea what I should specify for driver or where I'd find that information (Windows). Can anyone help? Thanks!

    Hi
First thing to mention is that the workbook has to be saved to the file system in order to use /p or /pt.
You can find the printer, driver and port information from the windows Start button by Start | Settings | Printers and Faxes (if working in Classic mode) or by using Start | Printers and Faxes (if operating in non-Classic mode).
From there you right-click on the printer you want to work with and select Properties from the pop-up list.
From the General tab you can get the printer name, from the Ports tab you can get the port and from the Advanced tab you can get the driver name.
    Hope this helps

  • Discover Desktop - Where can I get version 10.1.2

Afternoon everyone, from this thread you may realise that I am pretty new to Discoverer in so much that I CAN'T EVEN DOWNLOAD the software. Whenever I go to download it, I only get the option to download JDeveloper 10g, and so I duly do this.
Then, when I go to JDeveloper, I can't find Discoverer Desktop.
I have done this 3 times now and I am frustrated to say the least.
    Please help me.

Another path is going via Downloads index / Developer Tools / Developer Suit 10g. On that downloads page you will find Dev Suite 10g 10.1.2.0.2 -- Oracle Business Intelligence Tools 10g (10.1.2.0.2)
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ids/index.html
A link to Oracle BI Tools directly from Developer Tools section does not seem such a bad idea....
Also, check that download because I downloaded it a few times but it was broken every time (could not unzip it properly), so I got it from the edelivery site instead.

  • New folder on desktop question

My exchange student daughter has created a folder on the desktop. Can she make it secure that nobody can view the folder?
    Thanks in advance....

Have you created a separate account for her? If not, then you should. She can then keep all her files in her account which will only be accessible by her.

  • Parallels Desktop Question

I just recently bought a 27" iMac running Lion. Would like to run Parallels Desktop 7 so I can use some of my costly windows based software (autocad, photoshop, etc). I have Windows XP for a Dell XPS 410. Can I use that for my Windows OS? Not sure if I want to shell out a lot of money to find out that it will not work satisfactorily.

You will need to get that straightened out. You can run XP if you want assuming of course that you have a license of XP to install. One benefit of using Parallels (or VMWare Fusion) is they still support XP, Vista & Win 7 so it gives you some flexibility. Of course there are trade offs, first is if you are doing 3D renderings in AutoCAD the performance won't be as great as running on a PC or running in Boot Camp. Next is depending on how much RAM your iMac has it may need a RAM upgrade. The good news is RAM is very inexpensive, just don't buy it (assuming you need it) from Apple. Buy it from a reputable vendor such as www.macsales.com (OWC) or Crucial.
    Best of luck.

  • Solaris Remote Desktop Question...

    Hello;
I have a quick ? for all you Solaris gods! :-)..
Is there a software package that will allow me to see a session of someone logged on!? For instance...
Windows Desktop, TeamViewer, etc., are packages that will interact with the currently logged on user & both people see the same thing, etc.
I have checked NXServer and VNC, and it doesn't seem that either of them do this, but rather use "individual" sessions so to speak!?
An I correct!? Or have I just setup the configuration files wrong!?
Thank you for the help in advance! This is important!

VNC can do this as long as both users are connected to the same session. VNC doesn't let you drop in on a session started outside of VNC.
I'm less familiar with NX, but I thought it was the same.
