Discoverer and Sybase database

Could we connect Discoverer to Sybase database?
Thanks
Suhail

Hi Stacey
Both 10.1.2 and 11g are compatible with the 11g R2 database.
Best wishes

  • Discoverer and multiple databases

I tried putting out a posting earlier but had a weird messsage so I am trying this again. I apologize if it is duplicated. I am working on a project where we will be installing Discoverer to be used with 20 databases. There are two scenarios we reviewing and I am looking for any further recommendations or advice. The first choice has us creating a Discoverer databases and creating a business area for each separate database via DB Links (most databases are on the same Unix box). The other scenario has us creating an EUL into one of the source databases and exporting the EUL schema and importing it into each of the other 19 databases on a regular basis pending any changes (The databases schemas are suppose to remain identicle). I look forward to any suggestions or advice. Thanks!

I am using version Oracle 8.1.6. I have not made too much progress on this as I have been trying to research what will be best in the long run. Given my scenario ... it looks as if I will need to create an EUL in each separate database. The reason I might have to do this is because the schemas are all the same yet the data can be different or the same in certain areas. Primary/Unique keys would b a problem along with possible duplication of data. The people using the reports will want up to date reports on the drop of a hat so I would not have time to move to a shared database which may work in your scenario. One last thing I found is that using one database for Discoverer and using DB_LINKS to create your business areas can cause confusing with the naming scheme. If you have a table with the same name in two databases... Discoverer will have the original name of the table with the first business area but the second will have a 1 appended to the end of the name and so on pending how many duplicate names you have in your EUL. The numbers assigned at the end are in order but when you rename your folders .. it does the same thing. So unless you rename folders in the same exact order you create your business areas... you will have various digits at the end of your folder names and nothing consistent. I am still researching and will be happy to share what ever I continue to find out. Thanks for your response.. always nice to get other view points.

  • Discoverer and Standby Database Summary Tables

Are there any known problems with Discoverer attempting to write to read-only Standby database summary tables? Has anyone been successful running Discoverer against a Standby database?
    Regards,
    Chad

I have not used synonyms in our system, but they can be accessed by creating custom folders in admin. In general, Custom folders are created to build complex query using advanced SQL which cannot be handled by discoverer end user editions. Custom folders can use tables, views, or synonyms.

  • Software compatibility About ORACLE BC and ADF 11g with Sybase Database

I am using jdeveloper 11g xxx.0.2, and our company is using Sybase 12.x ASE. Our team chose Jdeveloper 11g and BC with ADF as our architecture. But during about 2 months, we found the bug (just with sybase db server) becomes more and more, strange, the dialect which we can choose does not have sybase (the have Oracle,Sql Server,DB2,SQL92 and others), we now have the only one way -- to choose SQL 92. But many bugs or other problem comes out, sometimes we event have to write lots of codes to realise a very very simple function. is that all because there's no sybase dialect or i guess the sqlbuilder for sybase database? Someone can explain why? or can help me go through the trouble? We need your help!!!!!!

Thanks for reply, we can not change our tech now, and could you please show me a way? should I extend baseSqlBuilderImpl and override some important methods there to generate sql suitable in sybase?
I have override the sql generate method and the lov bug was fixed( The bug is IT recognize int var as a string var, and uses like instead of =), but we still can't fix view criteria, the default declarative view criteria can not run most time. And i don't know why. can adf support team to do a enhancement for sybase? Thanks a lot

2)what is the architecture teredata and sybase ASE follows as oracle doesn't.who have more benificial architecture ??
3)teradata follows a transact sql (i guess) what is that??
    4) teradata have Backup Archive and Recovery feature is it same as RMAN in oracle??

    hi
suppose you want to grade oracle db,sybase, and teradata with in 10 what you will grade??

  • How do I connect to a Sybase database from Crystal?

I have never tried to connect to Sybase data before and I am having difficulty figuring out how.  I am using CR XIR2 from my desktop and trying to connect to what I am told is a Sybase database (voicemail system).  I believe Sybase vers 12.5, but not entirely sure yet.  Postings on the forum and other sites appear to be directed toward sdk developers or other development and were not helpful.  Most of what I am reading points toward an Adaptive Server® Enterprise (ASE) ODBC Driver by Sybase.  However, I was told that was not true but the person promising to forward the information never came through. Are there additional drivers I need to install or can someone point me in the right direction?  Thanks!

    Hi Wendy,
    32-bit NATIVE DRIVERS
CRDB_P2SSYB10.DLL is the native driver for Sybase ASE.  It is used with Sybase ASE 12.5
NOTE:  The native driver for Sybase ASE cannot be used to connect to Sybase ASA (Adaptive Server Anywhere) or Sybase ASIQ (Adaptive Server IQ).  Sybase ASA and Sybase ASIQ include their own ODBC drivers as part of their installation package.  These drivers provide the only means of connecting to Sybase ASA and Sybase ASIQ databases.
    I hope this helps you.

  • PI 7.1 and Sybase integration

    Hi Gurus,
Could any body post the procedure to integrate SAP PI and  Sybase. I am searching for these doucuments but could not find any.
    Please do the needful.

integration between different databases are pretty much same procedure. You have to import jdbc driversfor the SYbase database and in the jdbc communication channel you have to reference the connection class. Creating data structure on the database side is pretty much same for all the databases.
If you need any help on the configuration part, Please post your requirements further here.

  • How to connect sybase database in JDeveloper 11g using JConnect

    Hi
How to connect sybase database in JDeveloper 11g using JConnect? Please help.

    User,
It would help if you explained Sybase Jconnect instead of leaving us to google.
At any rate, it appears you need to create a library definition in JDeveloper, add the appropriate JConnect JAR files to the library's classpath, and then add the library to your project.

  • Oracle Gateway Not Connecting to Sybase database

    Hi,
I'm trying to setup an oracle gateway to connect to Sybase database. I followed in details the instructions but still can connect successfully. The Oracle database is in RAC environment. Below are the steps I took:
The oracle gateway and oracle database are in the same server while Sybase is on a separate unix box.
    1. create an initdg4sybs.ora file
    # This is a customized agent init file that contains the HS parameters
    # that are needed for the Database Gateway for Sybase
    # HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=[999.99.108.99]:4527/common ## IP address of sybase server
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=ON
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT=RECOVER
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD=RECOVER
    2. create a listener on the oracle gateway home
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: /u03/app/oracle/gateway/11.2/network/admin/listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    LISTENER_DG4SYSBS =

    3. create tnsnames.ora in oracle database home

    (HS=OK)
    4. create database link
create database link dg4sybs connect to "user" identified by "password" using 'dg4sybs'
    5. when testing the connection; i'm getting below error message. tried all the setup based my research and couldn't make it work.

  • JDBC query with Sybase database

    Hi Folks,
I am working with Oracle 9i Reports Builder connecting to Sybase database using jdbc-odbc driver type.
I could connect to the database, use a simple query and generate reports.
Problem is only when, I use a variable in WHERE clause and have
    1. group functions in SELECT statements (i.e. sum(), count()..)
    2. NOT IN operations in one of conditions
Error message was thrown saying "Incorrect Syntax near ':.' "
(I declare a variable in USER PARAMETER and use the same in WHERE clause by refering say "where trandate=:m_trandate".)
Though there is no syntax error AT ALL. Am very sure about it, because when I execute the same statement in "isql" , it works perfectly.
Can anyone, let me know whether Is it a limitation on Report Builder with Sybase db or Is any configuration do I miss??
Also, let me know if there is any work around process to handle this situation.
    Sample Query I tried :
    select item, avg(rate) from inventory
    where item=:mitem /* mitem is a variable */
    group by item
    Any information is welcome.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi Sachin,
I too, got through the issue. Sorry am bit late in updating you. But still I would say it is not on consistent(my feedback as per I grabbed from the behavior. Say, I accepted the query in a particular order of WHERE clause, then If I change the order it will throw an error message saying "Incorrect syntax".)
Anyway working fine. Thanks for your immediate response with useful hints.
    Rgds
    Anand
    Hi Anand,
Yes, JDBCPDS accepts all Select queries which follows SQL Specification.
It would be a valid query as per the database used.
Please try again, Bind parameters can be placed in any or all of the conditions of SQL Query in JDBCPDS.
I am able to use them in both the cases you told.
    With Regards

    Hello,
It seems that you try to with captures SQL Server data changes and move to Sybase database with Attunity CDC. Since it is a thrid party tool, I suggestion that you post the question in the

  • Foreign keys in source tables (sybase database)

    Hi,
Foreign key / primary key constraints are not captured / converted in oracle model nor they are generated.
I am migrating sybase database tables to oracle. These tables have foreign keys, but while capturing and then converting the table to oracle model and then generating, these foreign keys are not present in the ddl script.
In the source connection ( in the tool) to the sybase database, these keys are shown,
and logically when the generation is done for table, the foreign / primary key syntax should be present in the ddl generated
Am more worried about the foreign key not getting converted
    Please help
    Regards

    Hello,
do you have a very simple example showing this behaviour ?
What is your sybase version ? And what about Sqldev version ?
Do you tested migration with offline method ?
As testcase, a emp and dept schema with foreign key should be ideal.
    Thanks

  • SSO - Discoverer and VPD

    Hi,
I have row-level-security implemented in the database and the policy applied to few tables in a schema. When I query this table logging into the db using Toad/sqlplus as different users I see the security policy applied and the right rows of data returned. This is good...
However, from discoverer... here's what we have. We have SSO enabled for discoverer. Created a public connection for user with "exempt policy". In other words the user doesn't have the policy applied and hence gets all the rows from the tables above said tables. The workbook is shared with users who should see different data. I have used CLIENT_IDENTIFIER and have a database logon trigger set to the client_id. For some reason only from discoverer I get a policy predicate user when logging in as the same user that's fine from toad/sqlplus. I have registered functions in the EUL. However, should I have eul_trigger$post_login in discoverer or the database trigger should do?
    We are expecting this:
A workbook created with a public connection user (with exempot policy) shares with regular users. The regular users see what they need to see based on vpd policy. Also we want to implement the dashboard for these workbooks and we have SSO on portal as well.
I am not sure what am missing... If someone can help me with this, that's highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Rod,
Firstly, I am not sure why you have exempt policy for your public connection user.
You can create a policy that uses the CLIENT_IDENTIFIER when the Discoverer user connects with the public user and uses the database user when a connection is made by other users.
Got rid of the exempt policy after your message... "policy that uses the CLIENT_IDENTIFIER when the Discoverer user connects with the public user ".. Would be great if you can pl elaborate on this point. Policy function that I have is pasted to the bottom of this message... I have a feeling this is what am missing... your help is highly appreciated!Alternatively, you could use a database trigger on your public connection user (or an eul_trigger$post_login) to check the CLIENT_IDENTIFIER and set a context to define the row-level-security to be implemented. Then you can use this context in your workbook conditions.
For now I'd prefer to take the policy route and not the trigger. If it works with policy that'd be great. Thanks a lot for your help!
