JDBC query with Sybase database

Hi Folks,
I am working with Oracle 9i Reports Builder connecting to Sybase database using jdbc-odbc driver type.
I could connect to the database, use a simple query and generate reports.
Problem is only when, I use a variable in WHERE clause and have
1. group functions in SELECT statements (i.e. sum(), count()..)
2. NOT IN operations in one of conditions
Error message was thrown saying "Incorrect Syntax near ':.' "
(I declare a variable in USER PARAMETER and use the same in WHERE clause by refering say "where trandate=:m_trandate".)
Though there is no syntax error AT ALL. Am very sure about it, because when I execute the same statement in "isql" , it works perfectly.
Can anyone, let me know whether Is it a limitation on Report Builder with Sybase db or Is any configuration do I miss??
Also, let me know if there is any work around process to handle this situation.
Sample Query I tried :
select item, avg(rate) from inventory
where item=:mitem /* mitem is a variable */
group by item
Any information is welcome.
Thanks & Regards
Anand

Hi Sachin,
I too, got through the issue. Sorry am bit late in updating you. But still I would say it is not on consistent(my feedback as per I grabbed from the behavior. Say, I accepted the query in a particular order of WHERE clause, then If I change the order it will throw an error message saying "Incorrect syntax".)
Anyway working fine. Thanks for your immediate response with useful hints.
Rgds
Anand
Hi Anand,
Yes, JDBCPDS accepts all Select queries which follows SQL Specification.
It would be a valid query as per the database used.
Please try again, Bind parameters can be placed in any or all of the conditions of SQL Query in JDBCPDS.
I am able to use them in both the cases you told.
With Regards

  • I want JDBC driver for Sybase database...

    Hi All:
    Can any one help me with JDBC driver for Sybase database ? I have surfed the net, but not able to find a Sybase driver that works correctly.
    Also, can you please let me know if anything special needs to be done in case of Sybase database connection, apart from what we normally do to connect to a database like "Oracle" or "MS SQL Server".
    Thanks and Regards,

    And why do you think someone using Oracle might know the Competitor's drivers?
    Having said this: you should give jTDS a try:
    http://jtds.sourceforge.net
    Also, can you please let me know if anything special
    needs to be done in case of Sybase database
    connection, apart from what we normally do to connect
    to a database like "Oracle" or "MS SQL Server".It's all in the docs of the driver

    DECLARE
    BEGIN
         FOR i IN (SELECT col1, col2 FROM Table) LOOP
                :block.item1 := i.col1;
                :block.item2 := i.col2;
                NEXT_RECORD;

  • JDBC query against Sybase through jConnect5.5 in Oracle 9i Reports Builder

    Hi There,
    I am trying to connect to Sybase using JDBC query using jConnect55 driver.
    I am not able to do so. I get an error:
    ERR 62002: Failed to connect to the datasource JZ0D5 JZ0D5: Error loading protocol com.sybase.jdbc2//255.255.255.255//255.255.255.255
    Driver entry in my jdbcpds.conf file is
    <driver name ="jConnect55"
    subProtocol ="sybase"
    connectString ="mainProtocol:subProtocol://databaseName"
    class = "com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDriver"
    connection = "oracle.reports.plugin.datasource.jdbcpds.JDBCConnectionHandling" loginTimeout = "0">
    <property name="DatabaseName" value="tempdb"/>
    </driver>
    The entry I make in jdbc query connection dialog box is as under:
    User Name:test
    password:secret
    Databse: 255.255.255.255:9999/tempdb
    Driver Type: jConnect55
    Can you point me where I am wrong?
    Thanks in advance
    Ketan Patel

    Hi Sachin,
    I too, got through the issue.

  • The jdbcTable.jsp example with Sybase database??

    Hi there,
              Does anyone got the jdbcTable.jsp example working with Sybase
              jConnect?
              Thank you

    David,
    Thanks for the suggestion. We'll schedule that on our list of new sample portlets.
    But as a sidenote, the Database access would really be no different from any standard JDBC calls to connect to and query the database.

  • Software compatibility About ORACLE BC and ADF 11g with Sybase Database

    I am using jdeveloper 11g xxx.0.2, and our company is using Sybase 12.x ASE. Our team chose Jdeveloper 11g and BC with ADF as our architecture. But during about 2 months, we found the bug (just with sybase db server) becomes more and more, strange, the dialect which we can choose does not have sybase (the have Oracle,Sql Server,DB2,SQL92 and others), we now have the only one way -- to choose SQL 92. But many bugs or other problem comes out, sometimes we event have to write lots of codes to realise a very very simple function. is that all because there's no sybase dialect or i guess the sqlbuilder for sybase database? Someone can explain why? or can help me go through the trouble? We need your help!!!!!!

    Thanks for reply, we can not change our tech now, and could you please show me a way? should I extend baseSqlBuilderImpl and override some important methods there to generate sql suitable in sybase?
    I have override the sql generate method and the lov bug was fixed( The bug is IT recognize int var as a string var, and uses like instead of =), but we still can't fix view criteria, the default declarative view criteria can not run most time. And i don't know why. can adf support team to do a enhancement for sybase? Thanks a lot

    I edited the system variables in windowds
    CLASSPATH
    .;C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\lib\ext\QTJava.zip
    CLASSPATH1 (notice the 1 at the end, I don't want to override the previous one
    .,C:\Program Files (x86)\MySQL\Connector J 5.1.30\mysql-connector-java-5.1.30-bin.jar
    A few facts:
    1. You NEED to have the JDBC driver jar on the Java classpath
    2. You don't NEED to have the jar on the Windows classpath
    3. You don't NEED to 'override' the Windows classpath - you can just append the JDBC jar to it
    Just use #3 above - edit the Windows CLASSPATH environment variable and add the JDBC jar to it. At it at the start and follow it with a semicolon. Or at it at the end AFTER adding a semicolon.
    Or specify the CLASSPATH on the command line when you launch Java. Use the '-cp' or '-classpath <class . . >' options. Just type 'java' at the command line to see the list of parameters that can be used.

  • ES 2 and JDBC: Query with a multi set return

    I know that ES does not have a Query that returns multiple result sets, is there one in ES2?
    If not, what are people using for this functionality?
    Cheers

    I'm looking for this functionality as well.
    While using scripting is a solution it's not exactly a viable long term solution.  I'm sure the scripting option was intended to cover off potential one off situations that required a bit more programmatic control than the default toolbox supplied.  We are going to have to create a custom script for every process because of the multi query limitation.  We don't even have the option of a JDBC component that returns results from a stored procedure as LC doesn't even have that.  If that was available we could at least work around the limited result sets.
    Limiting the number of result sets for the multi query to one is extremely short sighted.  Not to mention the inabilility for the multi query to return a hierarchal xml payload.
    In general the LC database connectivity options are puzzling.  Why is there no JDBC connector for stored procedures that returns data? Why is the multi query limited to a flat structure and one result set?  Surely there are PDF's that need to be populated with complex data structures?
    Perhaps even more frustratiing is that it isn't possible to reuse existing legacy data stores/stored procedures in a new process without creating a new approach to data access to comply with LC's deliberately limited JDBC options.  Why have the data integration capabilities of JBOSS (in our case) been handicapped?
    Overall, LC has been a great help in providing a shared business workflow option for our enterprise but the data access needs to be improved to enable LC to operate with existing systems and to provide more options for transforming business process on paper into business processes in LC.

    2007-02-28 10:11:01 Error Returning synchronous error message to calling application: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.MessageExpiredException: Sync application request expired..
    Between the 2007-02-28 10:03:53 and 2007-02-28 10:10:59, what takes it so long to process? Also it happens randomly.
    Since it is synchronous, the remote database table has been updated but the connection with XI has been disconnected for timeout issue, which lead to unrecoverable data inconsistent problem.
    Anyone who can help me?

    Driver jars used : progress.jar,progress_jdbc.jar,progress_messages.jar
    libJdbcProgress.so, libprosqljava.so, libprocli92.so file in LINUX environment
    Database : Progress 9.1D
    I couldn't get a  successful connection to database  by doing this and getting exception
    Exception: No suitable driver found for jdbc:jdbcProgress:T:sun3899:28409:DISP at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(DriverManager.java:602) at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(DriverManager.java:185) at SQLService.main(SQLService.java:21)
    Note: I could connect successfuly to this database from Windows and Solaris OS.

    1. WHAT you are doing
    2. HOW you are doing it
    3. WHAT results you get
    4. WHAT results you expect to get
    WHAT &HOW : I am trying to run a Java code in Linux OS that connects to the Progress database and do a DML statement while it works perfectly when run in Windows and Solaris OS.

  • Same sql query with multiple database links

    Hi All,
    i want to execute an sql query for a SELECT LIST Item. which should use database links in it's query.
    i'm having a list of database links in the region. say :LOC which is having 10 items each linking to different databases.
    i want to use following query for another item in same page.
    select customer_name from working_lines@:LOC where
    phone_no:phone_no
    can i do this.
    Thank you All.

    What we have done before is to create a report based on a PL/SQL procedure that returns a SQL statement.
    The PL/SQL code grabs the "selected" database link from :LOC and parses the SQL QUERY you want to execute replacing some token (like [LINK]) with '@DBNAME'.
    Lets say your SQL statement is coded like this:
    mySQL := 'SELECT cust_name FROM working_lines[LINK] where phone_no = :Phone;'
    Then all you would have to do to replace '[LINK]' with the proper DB alias would be:
    mySQL := REPLACE(mySQL, '[LINK]', '@'||:LOC);
    and then return the new SQL ...
    if :LOC has something like 'V10GPROD' your SQL would look like :
    SELECT cust_name FROM working_lines@V10GPROD where phone_no = :Phone;
    The beauty of this is that you can also include a "null" option that means the select statement will be executed on THIS database...

  • Sybase database driver

    Hi,
    I would like to develop EJB with a Sybase database and I would like to know if I can trust and work with this driver : "Data Direct Connect JDBC3.0/ Type4 Driver for Sybase Databases"
    This page "http://docs.sun.com/source/817-6087/dgjdbc.html#wp32309" says that the only driver witch passed compliance test is the "Inet Sybelux JDBC Driver for Sybase Databases" but this one is not free. And as this webpage might not be up to date, I would like to know if somebody has got more recent news about it.
    Thanks.

    Use the driver class
    com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDriver
    Connection URL:
    jdbc:sybase:Tds:<host>:<port>/<database>
    Driver JAR file:
