Discoverer username

Hi,
I want to use security for restricting records in the discoverer based on person_id.
I know that the person_id and username information is stored in fnd_user tables.
But i want to know how to capture the person_id of the user who logged into Discoverer Desktop or Plus.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Rod,
thanks for the reply but looks like the query didn't like FND_GLOBAL.USER_ID.
Its throwing the following error in discoverer
ora-00904 "0247951" Current user: Invalid Identifier.
Any idea?
Thanks

  • Discoverer Login using Application User

    Hi,
we have a portal developed using adf and jsf where the usernames and passwords are stored in the table when the user enters the login and password information a procedure check is the user is valid and logs into the application we have VPD to control the security.
Now i want to pass the logged in username ( Application user ) as application_user parameter,to discoverer url and use it in the post login trigger. How can i achive this ? I am passing the oracle username and password to connect to the database in the url using post method.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You are right you cannot pass the Discoverer password in a URL unless you use a HTTP Post transaction.
If you are using Oracle Applications you can connect directly to Discoverer from an Applications form function or use SSO.
If you are using some custom application and the username is not a database user, then you could using a common database username/password and run a logon workbook then runs your custom logon process. The application username and password would then be in the parameters to the workbook in the URL and not Discoverer usernames and passwords.
    Hope that is clear.

Discoverer supports two kinds of connections - database schema connections and apps connections. For Disco Admin, you login using a database schema, which, as you stated, works. For Disco User you login using an Apps user account (for which there is a no equivalent database scherma). To enable such a connection, you need to check the "oracle applications user" check box on the 10g Disco login screen. Also, under Tools --> Options, in the Connection tab, make sure that "connect to both standard and applications EULs" radio button is selected.

  • Discoverer 4i error msg "A database role exists which confilcts with this username"

When I try to open workbooks -> from database, I get a Discoverer 4i error msg "A database role exists which confilcts with this username" with only an "OK" button in the window. The database works fine for Discoverer 3.1. After clicking on the OK button, I get an empty list of workbooks to open. If I create a new workbook & try to save it, I see the list of dozens of workbooks in the database.
Which role is it complaining about? How can I fix this?
    null

What you will have to do is log into the database as a user with DBA priveleges, query the DBA_ROLES table (SELECT * FROM DBA_ROLES) and see what role exists that has the same name as the user you are logging in as... that should give you a direction to either rename the role, or the drop the user and recreate with a unique name... Good Luck!

  • Discoverer Database Username

    Hi,
I want to developt Web Application but I must use Microsoft Product( Asp ) and IIS 4.0 as the HTTP Server. Can I combine with Disco 4i and one more thing I want to use Application username ( for security purposes ) since Discoverer use the database username
so my user only need to login once into my web application and call the discoverer report from ASP page.

As far as I know, there is no such thing as a default user/password and/or database for Discoverer.
The database could be any database you like, for example one that you have on your desktop. Then you should first create a user to own the EUL, grant required privileges to that user (see manual), start Discoverer Administrator, create the EUL, fill the EUL with whatever you like, grant access to it to the user you want to use, and THEN then can start Discoverer Desktop and start working...

  • Oracle Discoverer 4i - Invalid username and password

    Hi,
I have 2 machines, both installed with Oracle Discoverer 4i with patches, 3201601, 2451630, 3622870.
When I run the Desktop Discoverer and attempt to log in, one machine prompts the error Invalid username and password while the other does not.
Can someone help me troubleshoot why this error occurs? It will be big help.
    Thanks!

Are you trying to connect to the same database from both Discoverer machines ? Are the OS versions on those two machines identical ? Pl post the exact error code/message ?

  • Discoverer default username, password and database??

  • Discoverer 10g and R12 error - invalid username/password

    Hi all
I have R12 and Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2.1 only (user and admin) on the same Windows machine.
I can connect to Discoverer as the APPS user with no problem, create EULs and workbooks, and see data.
However, I cannot connect as an Apps User. I have copied the DBC file to the Discoverer Oracle home (c:\\oracle\BIToolsHome_1).
I have not updated any opmn.xml files yet as I don't know which ones to update (if any as this is only desktop).
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Hussein, yes, I completed all the steps. Here is what I have done:
    - Install Discoverer 10.1.2 from eDelivery web site
    - Create secure folder in
    - Copy .dbc file, and name it vis.dbc all lower case.
    - Create FND_SECURE and FND_TOP system variables, populated with <ORACLE_HOME>/secure and <ORACLE_HOME> respectively. <ORACLE_HOME> is C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1.
None of the above has worked.
I have also set the s_appserverid_authentication to OFF in $INST_TOP/appl/admin/VIS_x2o12.xml and then run Autoconfig on the Apps tier, but this has also not worked.
Can you think of anything else to try?
And can you think why I can access Discoverer with SYSADMIN user?
    Thanks

  • Checkbox in discoverer desktop edition

    Hi,
The query we are executing created for cross tab report have plenty of views and is returning null data which needs apps intialization which cannot be done from discoverer.
I think loging into Discoverer desktop edition with oracle applications user would resolve the same.
I have checked the checkbox in desktop edition and logged in as operations/welcome. but it is showing as invalid user name /password.
please help in setup that must required to check and login to oracle applications user. Also Provide if there is any alternative.
I would be very much thankful if you could help me on this.
    Best Regards,
    Katty.

    Hi,
The apps initialization can be done by Discoverer provided that you are connecting to an Apps mode EUL with an applications username and password.
You must specify that you want an Apps mode EUL when the EUL is created. Then when you connect to Disco Admin as the owner of the EUL you will be able to grant access privs and security to the Application users and responsbilities.
If you have an apps mode EUL and still get an invalid username/password then this could be because the application is running in secure mode. Then you need to copy the .dbc file to a local directory. Search this forum for details on how to do this.

  • Unable to run discoverer report from command prompt

    Hi,
I'm trying to run the discoverer report from command prompt and i need to schedule the same.
How could i pass multiple values for the parameters?
If i don't pass the optional parameters, the parameter screen is getting pop-up? How to skip optional parameters?
Also, how to pass the data ranges (format for date parameters) ?
I'm using the below command in command prompt:
    cd/d E:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\bin
    dis51usr /connect username/password@database /opendb "TIMS-PCJ status Report" /sheet "TIMS observation status report (based on performed date)" /parameter "Test Number" 40351 /parameter "From Date" "01-JAN-2007" /parameter "To Date" "28-FEB-2007" /parameter "Observation Status" C /parameter "Observation Name" "Abdominal Girth" /export HTML "C:\DISCOVERER_REPORT_SCHEDULING\DIS_OUTPUT\PCJStatusOutput11"
Any one please reply me. Its very urgent.
    Regards,
    Sreedhar

    Hi,
How could i pass multiple values for the parameters? You should be able to use a comma separated list e.g.
    /parameter "Observation Name" "'Abdominal Girth','Abdominal Girth2'"
How to skip optional parameters?I don't think you can. You have to supply all parameters and then decode out the parameters you don't need in the workbook.
how to pass the data ranges You cannot pass a date range. You can pass a start and end parameters. The default format for the date parameters is DD-MON-YYYY but this can change depending on the NLS settings and format of the data item.

  • Launching a Discoverer report from jsp page

    Hi
I have a discoverer workbook created using BI Discoverer (for relational). I want to accept some parameters for this workbook from a jsp page, which will also have a "View report" button. This button when pressed should open up the Discoverer workbook and all the parameters from the jsp should be passed to the workbook.
Is it possible? If yes, any details on it?
We do the same thing successfully to launch Oracle Reports from jsps, we simply build the url in the jsp, and from jsp we submit it to a new window, and it opens up the report. Similar functionality we are looking to launch Discoverer reports.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Shalu

You can open the workbook with URL parameters with Discoverer Viewer much like you would Oracle Reports. Setting anything form the username, password, workbook name, worksheet, and parameters. All the information can be found in the following document:
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_11/bi.1012/b13918/urlstart.htm
The specific question your asking is addressed under 13.5.2 Example 2. Let me know if you have any issues

  • Invoking a Discoverer Report from a web page written in JSP

    Hi,
We are using Discoverer 10.1.2 against a relational database. We are not using the OLAP option.
I have a requirement wherein users would like link to a Discoverer Report from a web application which is not deployed in Oracle Portal. So Discoverer portlets are not the solution.
I basically need to be able to provide the Report URL in the JSP page.
Has anybody done this ? Can you please provide some pointers towards how to generate the Discoverer report URL to invoke the report from a JSP ?
    Thanks
    Manav

Discoverer URL parameters can be found here in the Configuration Guide here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B13918_03/urlstart.htm#sthref888
Note, that you cannot pass the password in the URL (security restriction) so you will need to use Public or Private connections and pass the connection ID or use an HTML form to build the URL using the POST method.
Or, you can fill in the desired fields and let the user enter their username/pwd.
Hope that helps get you started.
    Regards,
    Steve.

  • Invoking Discoverer Report (Plus) from URL in 10.1.2

Was previosuly able to drill from a URL (embedded URL generated in OFA) to open discoverer 9.0.4 and able to pass username and password (Applications EUL). Since upgrading to 10.1.2 this is now not possible as it will not accept the password?

    Hi Valelin
You are correct in that this has been retired. This is because having the password displayed in a URL is a security violation.
You are correct in saying that a POST operation will do this. These work just fine.
    Best wishes
