Display of PHP files in Dreamweaver

After updating to Dreamweaver 8.0.2, I'm finding that I can't
view php files in either the Split or Design modes. It will only
appear in the code mode and won't let me select a browser to
display either.
Any suggestions?

Open Preferences (Edit > Preferences) and switch to the
File
Types/Editors category. Make sure that .php (or whatever file
extension
you are using for your files) is *not* specified in the "open
in code
view" field.
The name of this field should be "open only in code view".

  • Using PHP files in Dreamweaver?

When I create a new PHP file in Dreamweaver the code is the same as an HTML file, shouldn't be different? with php commands or something?
Not unless you add them.  PHP is a server-side programming language.  PHP web pages are no different than HTML pages except that they can parse data on the server.  With the right include statements or commands, PHP or ASP pages can publish information from server-side databases to form a dynamically driven web site.

  • Can't view Wordpress PHP files in Dreamweaver CC.

    Mac. MAMP.
I have downloaded my full site hosted on xxxx into MAMP htdocs.
Download directly from root public_html on host.
I keep getting "Dynamically-related files could not be resolved because the site definition is not correct for this server"
Even if I go "live view" and set - Web URL to: www.indochinaexplorers.com (my site) - instead of http://localhost, it comes up with a lot of PHP boxes.
Been through all tutorials for more than a week.
Have been through all possible settings and configurations under "Manage Site"
Did a Test - New PHP page. Same thing, it does not show, design or live view.
    So stuck,
    Thanks Peter

I have the same issue and none of the alleged Guru's that answered have provided anything useful.  Solid Web Design is about workflow, which could lead to innovation if people would stop reverse innovation language...Dreamweaver could be a viable wordpress solution if it worked as it's supposed to. CC is a bust as the focus has shifted to mobile first.
There are no "real pages" for you to edit in DW; just code fragments.
Wordpress is dynamically driven but this is untrue.  Every PHP file in a theme has structure and is a "real page".  Fragments have to be in a "file" to be called, they are not called out of thin air.  If I want to style page.php, it cannot be done without first adding selectors.  #mainContent for example. The only thing php does is add dynamic functionality.  Page.php can be altered and saved as Page_fullwidth.php, Page_Music.php ,Page_webDesign.php and they can all have a different layout in the same theme.  Else there would be no templates to choose from in the static page section of the WP Admin area.
Themes drive the appearance and functionality of your WP site.  If you need a new look, find a different Theme and install it from your WP Dashboard.
    How does this help?
Unless you are very familiar with PHP code and more specifically the PHP code WP uses, you will not have good results working in DW.   You really must use the WP Dashboard to manage your content, Themes, and plugins.
This has nothing to do with the issue.  The issue is Dreamweaver simply does not allow propper editing of wordpress sites in a dynamic environment.  No one ever said they didn't know anything about php, creating wordpress themes, plugins, and so on...
Dear next genius..Since the question has already been asked, I won't ask it again, but the original inquiry is my issue as well.  If you have figured out how to make this work, please respond, if not, please don't.

  • PHP files in Dreamweaver

    Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has been unable to open php files.
When I try to open them Dreamweaver freezes. I have reinstalled CS3
and deleted all of the local files and downloaded them all over
again from the remote site but nothing seems to fix the
    problem.

Excellent! I was wondering how to solve that since it was

    with PHP and
    just saw this thread.
Thank you so much for your answer Alan that definitively
    solve the
problem so back to DWCS3 again :)

  • Can't edit php files in dreamweaver, access to site root denied

    Can anyone help me please?
I've recently purchased a Macbook Pro after my PCs failed on me and also had to get a Creative Suite Web Premium. I have always used Dreamweaver to edit my php files. In Windows XP, I had to run the programme to run as an Administrator to edit php files. Now I have not a clue how to do it on Mac! Each time I tried to save a php file, a dialog box appear stating: Access to Macintosh
    HD:Library:Webserver:Documents:Untitled-1.php was denied
    Regards
    Sinead

You shouldn't have to do that on the Mac or Windows.  Only thing I could find that would suggest loading files from there is a tutorial by David.  And although I would normally agree with him, keeping the files in a system library folder for a testing environment is really unnecessary.  I'd recommend moving them into your /Users/{username}/Sites folder.  There is already a modification to the apache server to recognize that as http://localhost/~{username}.  Or install something like MAMP that is in the Applications folder.

  • Can't display my php files

    Hi,
i know that a lot of people asked th same question but the answers didn't worked out for me.
I'm trying to run a simple test.php file in my Sites folder, but when i try that's what i see
i installed MysQl , apache 2, and i enabled my php 5 ( by deleting the '#' from the "#Loadphp5....." ligne of the httpd.conf file )
Any kind of answer or advice would be helpfull
    thanks

    Hi David
Thank you for the suggestion and the link. I do have MAMP set up and working on my system - so I can follow along happily with some of your extremely helpful books!
However, I am still getting the message "The file type of index.php is not supported on this device!" even though I know the device does display php content. (I have tested it physically using the device itself.)
I have tried unsuccessfully using both these doc types:

setting up a php site in dreamweaver.
I am taking a class in PHP. I am following instructions to set up my work environment in Dreamweaver. I am using an Imac, dual core, running snow leopard, and have loaded xampp onto my machine. Dreamweaver version CS3.
Class instructions say to set up my local site with following path: Applications/xampp/htdocs. My DW wants me to use : instead of /, so when I set up the local site, this is what my path looks like. Macintosh HD:Applications:XAMPP:xamppfiles:htdocs:
When I try to save my first page, as a .php, I get the following error message: Access to MacintoshHD:applications:XAMPP:xamppfiles:htdocs:hello.php was denied. I get this error message on both of my macs, so it is a problem in my path, not individual to my machine.
There is something wrong with my path, but I don't know what it is. I cannot create path with / instead of :, DW won't allow it. I tried creating a path exactly as instructed in the lesson, but that did not help. I don't know what I am missing because I am just starting so I don't know what to look for. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance....

You should setup the built-in php instead of xampp on Snow Leopard. Look here for more info
    http://DwFAQ.info/home.php?id=18
Then when you setup your local site use HD_Name:Users:User_Account_Name:Sites:Website_Folder:

  • Cannot save a php file in dreamweaver:access denied

I am taking a course in PHP. I am using the environment download XAMPP, and working directly in dreamweaver. My very first project is the traditional Hello World script, a simple echo command... When I go to save the file, Dreamweaver gives me an error message :"Access to Macintosh:Applications:XAMPP:htdocs:Hello.php  was denied."  No other file name works, even saving a simple page with nothing but premade code on it works... I am stuck and stumped.

    Hello Allen.
I don't think Firefox supports the vCard format by default... But you may want to try this extension, as I think it's what you want:

    I hope this helps.

  • Dreamweaver templates not updating *.php file

    Hello everyone,
I have been given an exisiting website to update that uses
    Dreamweaver templates.
I have made the changes successfully within the content.dwt
file, saved it, and then uploaded both the new content.dwt file and
the related *.htm pages that were linked to it.
After going to the website to double check the new pages I
found a *.php file that uses the same template, content.dwt, but it
never asked to update that particular file.
So, I opened the *.php file in Dreamweaver and tried to apply
changes from the content.dwt file to it using: Templates - Update
current page, but no such luck. Since there is no code at the start
of this file like the other *.htm files how do I "connect" it with
the newly updated template. I tried making a small change on the
content.dwt file so see what files would come up in the "do you
wish to update..." list but for some reason the *.php file is not
    there.
Perhaps the answer is fairly obvious to someone who has
worked with Templates a lot but since I have just started working
with templates I still have a large knowledge gap in this area.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Mr Zedd

Can you post a link to the PHP page, please? This will allow
    me to see the
    HTML markup on it....

  • Problem uploading PHP files [was: PHP files]

I am having a problem uploading PHP files from Dreamweaver to my file manager on my web host.
[Subject line edited by moderator to make meaning clearer. Thread also moved to the Dreamweaver Application Development forum]

I see this is your first post. Welcome.
Please take a few minutes to read How to get help quickly. Also post in the correct forum. The Dreamweaver General Discussion forum is for questions about DW in general, CSS, and design problems. Questions about PHP and server-side issues should go in the Dreamweaver Application Development forum.
It's very hard to give you any help, because the information you have given is so sparse. The only advice I can give is to check that you have set up the Remote Server details correctly in the Site Definition dialog box. See http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WSBE25912D-A9DE-4ba1-9F85-4C692F5C14ADa .html.

  • Dreamweaver 8 not properly displaying php file in display area...

    Hi...
    I have made I new site... www.tresfjording.com
It's all in Norwegian, but it seems to work fine in MSIE7
But in my Dreamweaver's design window it's a mess.
In fact it shows just parts of the page and even that is
    garbled...
Have installed WampServer to view the PHP pages hoping for a
    miracle, but
    that didn't work at all.
I am left with my own messy code to edit pages, and frankly
    that's a kind of
a eternal try and error process for me...
I need my WYSIWYG back, without getting rid of the two lines
    of PHP in each
page. Once including the left column data, and the other the
    right column
    data.
Is there a solution in upgrading to CS3?
Or is there another closer and cheaper solution?

    Hello,
Take a look at the source code using the browser.
There are 3 doc types and numerous <body>,
    </body>, meta tags and additional
links to stylesheets within the code:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 //EN">
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <link href="css/granbergMain.css" rel="stylesheet"
    type="text/css">

    <head>
    <link href="css/granbergSide.css" rel="stylesheet"
    type="text/css" />
As Alan asked, is the page using includes? It appears to be
    using php
    includes.
    The home page is:
    http://www.tresfjording.com/index.php
If you just opened the same index.php file in notepad that
    you open in DW,
you wouldn't see the additional tags and doctypes.
But if you view the page in IE, and "view source", you'll see
    them. The
includes are added server side and output to the browser.
Can you paste the code from one of the include pages?
    Take care,
    Tim

  • Dreamweaver 6- installed AppServ to read CMS website (php files)

    Hi there,
I have installed AppServ as my local testing server as I wish to read a website that was built as a CMS (bespoked site), the site has downloaded into my local site folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\My Documents\Websites\GB Forklifts Test Site\httpdocs\
I have then set-up the site:
    1. Servers: localhost    under Testing
    Server Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\My Documents\Websites\Local Server\AppServ\www\GB  Forklifts Test Site\
Web URL:  http://localhost/GB Forklifts Test Site/
Testing Server: Server Model: PHP MySQL
When I click on the index.php file on the testing server (and also attempted on the Local site folder), the page comes up, I then get asked to click Discover, which I do then the Script waring comes up i.e You must discover dynamically-related files in orde to list them int he Related Files toolbar etc  I click Yes and the following message is displayed :-
Dynamically-related files could not be resoved because the site definition is not correct for ther server, Retry / Setup.  I clicked on Retry, which wasn't successful so pressed Setup and it reverts back to the Site set-up as in 1. above.  Please can anyone help, many thanks
I click on Live view the following msg appears from the test server:-
    Not Found
The requested URL /GB Forklifts Test Site/TMP2bqrfi.php was not found on this server.
    Apache/2.2.4 (Win32) PHP/5.2.3 Server at localhost Port 80
and the following msg via Liver view appears from the Local  Site Folder:
    Not Found
The requested URL /GB Forklifts Test Site/httpdocs/TMP1jdoyhk.php was not found on this server.
    Apache/2.2.4 (Win32) PHP/5.2.3 Server at localhost Port 80

Firstly, to be clear,  this is obviously not a dreamweaver issue but probably something in the apache configuration. To research this, I would try the following:
Convert the includes to "require" to see if errors appear. Make sure error display is active
Create a simple PHP page that has no includes and try it.
Try in at least Firefox and Chrome.
Check the paths in vhosts.conf (did the paths need to change change from one version of XAMPP to another)
Is apache listening to port 80 alone? (Listen 80) and are the virtualhosts set up for *:80?
    Is LoadModule vhost_alias_module modules/mod_vhost_alias.so uncommented in httpd.conf

  • Firefox 3 displays the php code when pages launched from dreamweaver 8

The problem seems to relate to files opening as —
file:///C:/localweb/ .... when sent from Dreamweaver 8.0 to Firefox
The first html/php page loads correctly from dreamweaver as
processed HTML, a second page linked from either an HTML or php
page also loads correctly, but selecting any link from that or
subsequent pages displays the full php code instead of processed
html layout - so this appears to be a third level or greater
    problem.
    If I manually substitute -
    http://localhost/ — the problem
    does not arise.
This is a problem with version 3 of firefox, all previous
versions I used worked fine with both — file:///C:/localweb/
    and
    http://localhost/
Both prefixes also appear with pure HTML sites, but they load
    and function correctly.
Not every php site I have loads with file:///C:/localweb/, so
I am wondering if this relates to something in the php code or
    Dreamweaver - I have conn.php set to:
    mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "") or die(mysql_error());
I use winxp and have xampp installed - everything worked fine
    until I installed Firefox 3

    > but selecting any link from that or subsequent pages
You are being confused by a) not understanding root relative
    vs document
relative links, and b) not understanding how DW previews
    files.
If I have a document with a link to an image that looks like
    this -
    <img src="/images/foo.gif"...
    That's what's called a root relative link.
If I preview that document in DW, then the browser gets the
    document, sees
the leading "/" and reads that as the root of the hard drive,
    since the
browser has no idea where the root of the site is. Thus, the
    image is
    broken in the preview.
If I have temp files enabled, then DW will secretly convert
    the file being
previewed into a temporary file, and hand that to the
    browser. This temp
file has had all root relative links converted to document
    relative links
(as you will see by looking at the code in the browser), and
    has had all
include files actually embedded in the page, and has had all
    external CSS
and js markup embedded in the page. In other words, DW has
    made the
    document into a stand-alone page.
If you do not have temp files enabled, all of these links
    would be broken on
    preview.
Now - if you are using root relative links, AND you have temp
    files enabled,
AND you click away from the previewed document, then all of
    your links will
be broken, since DW has not made that linked file into a temp
    file. This is
    what you are seeing.
So - if you want to click away on preview, then you must use
    document
relative links for the site -
    <img src="../images/foo.gif"... (for example)
These will still work on preview since the browser knows how
    to determine
the current file's location and how to follow that path.
    Make sense?

  • Mod date not displaying in Files panel Dreamweaver CC

After upgrading to Dreamweaver CC, on OS X Mtn Lion, my Files pane will not display the Modification Date for both local and remote files. The column is there, but it's blank. I have tried hiding and showing that column in the Sites setup, but that did not work. Any ideas?

I can confirm that the solution posted by crockej does indeed work, I am not by any means saying that it is a perfect solution, and am sure that it is not the actual fix, but it does work, I landed up having to add JPG,GIF,PNG,PDF,SWF,FLA,ICO,SWZ,MPR,PSD,XLSX,INDD,AI all to fy file list and although this was 90% of the missing icons fixed, it still requires more like m4v etc.
Think of this as more of a temporary solution to the problem, but it does work.
This is what my /Users/XXXXX/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS5.5/en_US/Configuration/Extensions.txt file looks like now.

Tell us what the problems are.

PHP needs to be configured with a web server, such as Apache
    or IIS.
ColdFusion is also a webserver, but as far as I know, it
    cannot be
    configured to serve PHP pages.

    <?php echo Hello ?>
The only thing that would display is an error message. Hello
    needs to be
    enclosed in quotes:
    <?php echo 'Hello'; ?>
