Display of Time Characteristics in a Query

Hi all,
Is there a<b> way to display a query as follows</b>:
        Month1_____Month2______Month3____Quarter1
        Shipments__Shipments___Shipments_Shipments
Material 150_________50_________100________300
How can I do that in the query designer?
Thanks a lot
Christian

Hello Christian,
Create a user entry variable for calendar period/year. this will have month1 value ( say 01/2006). Create restricted keyfigures using shipments KF and TimeCharacteristic Calendar Period/Year. For this time characteristic restrict it with the variable that you have created.
For other two create the restricted kfs or new selection keyfigures in the structure using variable as user exit type with single value. In the exit read the above variable and derive these values.
For the quaterly values use variable offset using the first created user entry variable.
Hope this helps,
GSM.

  • Can't find time characteristics

    Hi,
I have a MultiProvider which is on 2 ODSes. I can't find any time characteristics in the MultiProvider. And when I am building a query I can't find the time dimension either.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks
    SAPBW

    Your Question is:
I can't find the time characteristics 0FISCPER in the ODS.
Where do we find them, like the way we see them under Time Characteristics when we DISPLAY the InfoCube.
    My Answer is:
In ODS ,automatically 0FISCPER will be appearing only if at least one of yr characteristics present in the ODS is of type time dependent
Moreover you could also pick 0FISCPER  from the template visible in left hand side of the ODS screen and then include it in ODS (data field)
let me know if still you are unanswered.

  • Problems with time characteristics after migration to BI 7.0

    Hi,
Our company migrated from BW 3.1 to BI 7.0 Netweaver 2004s recently.
After the migration we have problems with various time characteristics like 0CALMONTH, 0CALQUARTER, etc. in the Query Designer.
In the old BW3.1 Query Designer version we could choose at the properties of an time characteristic to display Key, Key and Text, Text and so on. After the migration to BI 7.0 we now can only choose Key.
The InfoObject definion of the time Characteristics in RSD1 is the same in the old version and in the new version.
I am very  grateful vor every hint how i can show again the other display options in the properties, so that our powerusers can build their queries in the way they are use too.
    Thanks

    Hi Pom,
thanks for your answer, but we are on FEP 10 already.
    So must be something else.

  • Tex variable: Cell Function with 2 time characteristics?

    Hi BW experts,
I have to use cell functions in our query because of cell references in the definition.
There are two time characteristics used in the query:
<b>0calweek</b> for reporting horizon and <b>zcalweek</b> for week of data loading
Also I have text variables in the structure for displaying cal week (10.2007 for example). However, the text variables can't be displayed correctly. I assue the reason is we have 2 time characteristics for cal week.
Does anyone have the same experience? Is there any workaround to resolve this delima?
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Regards,
    Sally

    Hi Olivier,
many thanks for your feedback and help!
    1. zcalweek is not referencing 0calweek ;-(
    2. in the cell, I have to restrict the KF with two values:
one is the reporting week (<b>0calweek</b>), for example 17.2007.
the other one is the week of data loading (<b>zcalweek</b>), for example 10.2007.
the text variable should be displayed with the reporting horizon (0calweek).
If I unerstood correctly from your message, there is no workaround for my problem?!
    thanks for your further inputs.
    Regards,
    Sally
P.S. now the text variable is shown as &var&

    hi ,
You can try out the following
    1) Create a RKF with a 2 Text Variable . The RKF which we are creating is amount Restricted by CalMonth .
    2) Text Variable 1 will Take in user input and is hidden in query , Text variable 2 will be displayed in query .
    3) With the help of CMOD / Istep = 2 restrict the Calmonth to the high value = user input , low value = first month of the quarter .
    4) Test variable 2 will display the quarter .
    5) The sum up will be the natural behaviour of the report , we do not need to worry about that !!!
Revert back with questions if any .

  • Error in displaying date time value in Thai Windows OS browser.

    Hi,
I have a problem displaying date time in the browser which is installed with Thai Windows OS. The time portion (the subset of datetime) does seemed to show correctly. Initially i am suspecting the virtual machine problem but i tried on bith java and microsoft vm, the result seemed the same. I tried to look in the source of the page and the character is just the same as the incorrect character displayed in the browser. The html source is -->
    <tr class="TableData">
         <td width="76">14/01/04 12:17:06 H-@5H"</td>
the time is displaying incorrectly. I am not sure its due to any setting in the BEA weblogic server. FYI i am now using WLS6.1(SP2) version. Hope and appreaciate a prompt reply. Thanks a zillion in advance.

  • Limited Support for Time characteristics 0FISCPER/0CALMONTH/0CALQUARTER

The time characteristics 0FISCPER/0CALMONTH/0CALQUARTER are converted into Character type value in Universe which results in following problems on switching to Webi based reporting from current SAP BI front end tools.
Problem 1: Sorting does not work correctly using the Key Value or Description as both are being treated as Character values. While setting up the Custom sort sounds like a workaround, the sort list has to be generated for all possible months/quarter/year combination that will be seen in the reports. Not a good solution when business analysts has to build their own reports from Universe.
Problem 2: Using range selections (E.g. between, greater than, less than etc) in Universe conditions/prompts does not yield correct results due to the same fact that all values are treated as characters. Possible workaround is use this kind of conditions in BI query variables directly. But, this does reduce the flexibility of selections a lot, especially when users are used to simple ways of making range selections in BEx.
Problem 3: keying in the prompt values for these characteristics/dimensions (both Key and text) is very cumbersome due to format issues. E.g. 1/2010 is no more recognized as valid fiscal period. You have to enter key value as K4/001/2010 or Text value JAN 2010 or January 2010 (based on text selected in query/infoobject). Only way of simplifying user input is to use LOVs and let users always select from LOVs. But, the users lose ability to simply key in values.
Problem 4: The default LOVs generated for Fiscal period takes values from the master data and hence might show all available fiscal periods including special periods 00,13 thru 16 etc. even though they may not be relevant to the underlying report (e.g. a Sales report). This can confuse users who are not used to seeing these periods before. Possible workaround is to apply filters on LOV using condition and in some cases this should fix the problem.
While some of the workaround for above problems sound acceptable (3 & 4), the others are not in my opinion(unless there is a better workaround anyone else have). My question is to experts from SAP is, can we expect better support for these objects in future Service packs? If not, then perhaps we need to move away from using this objects in reporting and use 0FISCPER3, 0CALMONTH2, 0CALQUART1 in combination with 0FISCYEAR/0CALYEAR to overcome above issues.
Though  this can mean  (1) good amount of backend changes to include these Infoobjects in underlying Infoproviders, if there are not present already (2) User training to explain them to use these new time char fields instead of the ones they are already used to.
I'm fairly new to BO and might have overseen somethings. I have already searched the BO forum related to this topic and did not find any satisfactory answers. Any input on this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sree

The issue is that these InfoObjects are not Data Type DATS in BI, they are NUMC and PERI7. Only InfoObjects of type DATS will be converted to Date format in the BO universe.
    Workarounds:
    - instead of using these time characteristics to filter results, consider using transaction dates, such as posting date.
    - create a customer InfoObject ZFISCPER which is a transformation of 0FISCPER to DATS data type.
    - create a custom variable in the WEBI reports which looks at the key for 0CALMONTH and only considers the first 2 characters which should identify the month (e.g. 01 = January, etc.). You can then sort on this and it avoids the year concatenation issue (e.g. JAN 2008, JAN 2009, JAN 2010).

  • Time-dependent hierarchy in query selection screen

    Hello all
I am running query where input selection has following fields -
    Fiscal year variable ( e.g. i can enter 2008)
    Period variable ( e.g. i can enter 12)
    Hierarchy Node variable
The hierarchy is time-dependent. I want that if I enter year and period as 2008 , 12 then
my hierachy node selction pop-up should show me only that hierarchy structure which was valid in 12.2008.
But my hierarchy selection always shows me hierachy structure that is valid on current date.
Can anyone help me on how to achieve this?
I have already coded keydate variable based on fisc year and period. But then how to make use of this key date variable so as to get correct selection of hier?
    Regards,
    Sanjyot

    Hi Marcio
RSRHIERARCHYVIRT is for maintaining time-characteristics hierarchy.
My hierarchy is based on Consolidation Groups and Units.
    But the hier is time-dependent.
So I want that when selection pop-up opens for a hier node , it should show me correct hier depending on year and period i have enetered.

Be aware that XP takes approx 1gb of your RAM leaving you with 1gb for whatever else is running. MS Outlook is also a memory hog.
    To check Virtual Memory Settings:
    Control Panel -> System
System Properties -> Advanced Tab -> Performance Settings
Performance Options -> Adavanced Tab - Virtual Memory section
    Virtual Memory -
    what are
    * Initial Size
    * Maximum Size
In a presentation at one of the Hyperion conferences years ago, Mark Ostroff suggested that the initial be set to the same as Max. (Max is typically 2x physical RAM)
These changes may provide some improvement.

    Jamila

Jamila, let me put technical what Justin said...

    09:27:17 jaffar@PRIMEDB> select * from emp_new;

    Execution Plan
    0 SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE (Cost=1 Card=6 Bytes=132)
    1 0 TABLE ACCESS* (FULL) OF 'EMP_NEW' (Cost=1 Card=6 Bytes=132)
    Statistics
    20 recursive calls
    3 db block gets
    16 consistent gets
    5 physical reads
    796 redo size
589 bytes sent via SQL*Net to client
372 bytes received via SQL*Net from client
    1 SQL*Net roundtrips to/from client
    1 sorts (memory)
    0 sorts (disk)
    0 rows processed
    09:27:26 jaffar@PRIMEDB>
set autot trace command allows you to run the query without actually running the query, therefore, it wont' display the result. But, certainly, it wil take time. We 20 million rows are not much for oracle. It all depends, whether you query is doing FULL TABLE SCAN or INDEX SCAN.

  • Formulas and restrictions on characteristics in a query

    Hi Guys
This might seem like a strange question but can you perform formulas on characteristics in a query or just key Figures.
For instance for one query I have to substring the key to just the last two characters and on another I'd like to be able to display the product id twice based on the product type (like a restricted key figure)
I can't see how to do this in the query is there a way or should this be done in the info cube or in the report once the results have been obtained?

    hi rachel,
u can create in routine in either transfer rules or the update rules that would restrict your characteristic value to only the last two characters. Now it is up to you to decide whether to restrict the original characteristic or create another characteristic which gets its value from these routine.
for the second part of your question i think the restricted keyfigure will do its job.
    reward if it helps,

  • F4 Values for Time Characteristics

  • Multiple values for Time Characteristics (Ex: 0CALMONTH) in planning layout

    Hello,
We are on BW - BPS 3.5v
We have a realtime infocube with only time characteristic 0CALMONTH.
There is a requirement that in my Planning layout I have to display the Keyfigures for:
(CURRENT MONTH)    (CUMULATIVE 4 MONTHS FROM CURRENT MONTH) (CUMULATIVE 7 MONTHS FROM CUR MONTH)
I defined 3 exit variables on 0CALMONTH , one for Current Month, one for All 4 months from Current Month and another for All 7 months from Current Month.
In my planning layout when I use these variables for 0CALMONTH, I don't get the values for 4 months & 7 months.
I checked the variables are being populated with correct values. But when they get passed to the layout it doesn't read the Cube.
I got the basic doubt if we can give multiple values for the time characteristics in planning layout..??
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Vish

    Hi.
Did you created 3 restricted KF: one with KF amount and variable current month, second with amount and variable 4 monthes, third with amount and variable 7 monthes ?
Did you have match records in you cube ?

  • Displaying Date & Time in Scheduled Worksheet

I'm using BI Discoverer Plus & BI Viewer.
In Discoverer I've set up a scheduled workbook to create a workbook once per day.
It runs fine and creates worksheets as required.
In Viewer I can open the Workbooks and Worksheets as required.
I want the worksheet to contain the time & date when the data was brought
    into the report.
It seems that the date and time is the date and time when I open the report for printing.
Anyone know how I can get the report to include the time and date when the
report was run, rather than when it is displayed/printed?
    Thanks
    Suhada

    Russ,
I think perhaps I'm not explaining what I want very clearly so
    here's another attempt:
What I want is in one place on the page, to show the date & time
    when the data was extracted.
If I understand correctly, putting &Date and &Time in the Page Title
displays the Time and Date that the Report is display on screen rather than when the Data was extracted from the database.
If I create a Worksheet which has &Date and &Time in it and then
refresh it and then print it then the date and time shown are about right.
However if I create a scheduled workbook which say runs once per day,
wait for a week and then open a report from a few days ago, the data shown
was extracted a few days ago but the &Date and &Time show the current date and time.
It seems to me that when you print a report, what's most relevant is the time
and date when the data was extracted, rather than the time & date that the
    report is printed.
I've worked in Business Objects before and it's fairly easy in that to set things
up so that every report has on it both the date & time of when the data was
extracted AND the date & time when the report was printed.
So what I want is a way of showing on the report, the date and time at which the data was extracted, i.e. when the query was run.
Just once, say in the top right hand corner of the page.
    I hope that's clearer.
    Suhada
