Display problem - brightness and grey area

My 24" iMAC has been suffering with a grey section (middle vertical third of screen) on start-up. This lasts for 5-10 minutes, after which time the middle section resumes its normal brightness. Recently, I've noticed another problem and that is there is very little difference on the screen between the brightness at its lowest level and when it is at its highest. What has happened?

Same problem here (with a Mac Mini 2009 model with the same nvidia chip as your aluminum MacBook) and a LG L204WT 20" monitor. Although on my LG monitor, if I reduce the sharpness setting one step (from 5 to 4), the flickering completely stops. This does make the display slightly fuzzier, but it feels better to my eyes than the flickering. Can you test this on your monitor also, and tell me if it helps?

  • Display has white and grey lines and blocks crisscrossing it and touch functions are not working properly on half the screen.

I dropped my iPhone 5S and it landed flat on it's face (it was in a protective case).  Since then my touch screen display is not working properly. I have white and grey lines and/or blocks crisscrossing the screen both horizontally and vertically.  Screen responds to touch in odd random ways, but rarely does what I am trying to do.  Can't call or receive calls because can't dial or answer phone via swipe. Can't text or read incoming texts. All functions seem to be working except that I can't access them because the touch screen is acting up. If I move the phone around it randomly accesses different apps or functions, but I have no control over them once the appear on the screen.  Touching screen just causes phone to randomly choose something else to open.  What have I damaged?

We cannot possibly tell. Obviously some hardware inside. Take it in to an Apple Store. They will offer you the opportunity to swap the phone for $269 in the US. Prices vary by country.

  • When i scrolling down/up in safari the display gets brighter and blurs little bit!(macbook pro 2012, 3days old)

when i scrolling down/up in safari and firefox the display gets brighter (for instance when the screen and texts in a page is blue it gets light blue and little blurs by scrolling) and when i stop scrolling the screen gets plain.

If it is only blurring on the words and not the stationary dock then it is because the screen does not have a great response time.

  • Wifi problem is no grey area!

Like many other customers I have encountered the wifi grey out on the iphone 4S having visited the Glasgow store today they tried the factory reset, this did not resolve the problem, they did offer to sort it fully for £130 the charge applicable as my handset is 14 months old, 2 months out of warranty! I raised the fact the problem was due to a software issue that Apple knew about and had known for some time, that the problem IS affecting handsets which are NEW as well as the ripe old age of 14 months, whilst they accepted that and the fact there was no fix available to out of warranty customers there was nothing they could do,their hands were tied by Apple policy!
Now Im astonished by this, Apple selling a piece of equipment which they fully expect to fail at some point but will not release a fix for it? What kind of organisation is this? Where is the customer care or appreciation?
Furthermore does the fact they know of the issue, refuse to deal with the issue, but continue to sell the product not just little bit naughty?

  • LCD display problem- bright spot

    Hi,
I just bought my idea u310 online. By opening laptop for the first time, I noticed the screen frame is detached. the frame was not fixed in its own place. it was separated from lcd. I pushed corners so that it can get fit in the right place. it seemed to be all right but after some hours working, I noticed a brighter spot at bottom of lcd display (bottom at task bar- more near to right side). I am very upset I afraid if the spot becomes more and more bigger ... its annoying . what this kind of problem is ? what is the solution ?
    Thank you

I would say return it to get a full refund or a replacement because it sounds like it got damaged during shippment.

  • Problem syncing and greyed out songs on iTunes

I just recently switched from an iPhone 3gs to an iPhone 5. Before switching phones, I went on iTunes and clicked "back up" in case I wanted to transfer music, photos, etc. After switching, I decided to add new music onto my new iPhone. I don't use iTunes very much, so while trying to figure out how to put music onto my phone, I clicked "restore from backup." I was afraid some of my new apps would disappear, so I clicked cancel. I checked my phone and the only difference I saw was that I got my old bookmarks back from my old iPhone.
I went back to syncing my new music and figured it out, however, I noticed that every time I clicked "sync", it would sync for a little while, stop at "step 2: backing up" and then cancel. I think cancelling the "restore from backup" interrupted the syncing process for my music because now, some of the songs are greyed out on iTunes, but they still show up on my iPhone. I'm happy the music still plays on my iPhone, but it bothers me that I can't get rid of the greyed out songs on iTunes.
Can someone please tell me how to fix the greyed out songs and how to stop my phone from syncing and canceling?
    P.S.
My iPhone would sync and then cancel every time I plug in my iPhone into my computer, but I stopped that by going on iTunes to "Edit", "Preferences", "Devices", and then checkmarking the box that says "Prevent iPods, iPhones, iPads from syncing automatically."
I hope all of this makes sense >.< I feel like I should be jumping up and down in joy for getting an upgrade, but I'm bummed out now that this has to happen :/

I'm sorry I don't have a solution to post, but just want to say that I too (and I'm sure, among millions of others)  have experienced nothing but frustration and anger at all the ridiculous bugs that have happened seemingly without any interference from the user's end.
I can't even begin to list all the problems I've had since being forced to upgrade to iOS 7 on my iPhone(s) and iPad(s) being a family of Apple users. The OS "Music" app is completely useless now (half of my 1,200 songs are "greyed out" and unplayable), iTunes doesn't sync properly (it absonlutely refuses to transfer songs no matter how many options and selections in the various panes are checked off) and everything is INCREDIBLY slow.
I've read SO many possible solutions and fixes and, really, I don't have the TIME to be reading endless posts and screwing around "experimenting" trying to get it fixed. And Apple, as usual, is mum and nowhere to be found.
My advice to tech companies is to LEAVE THINGS BE -- especially if there is no real improvement. Unless the change significantly improves the functionality—changing the interface, buttons, or even the icons JUST BECAUSE is stupid policy and infuriates those of us whose lives don't live and breathe Apple...and just want a functioning phone.

  • Display Problem - some applications are displayed very blurry

Hello, I have a Thinkpad L 540 with Win 8 Pro and some applications are displayed very blurry.
What should I do ?  Win 7 has no problems with it.
    Thanks for your help

Ah, so you have a first-gen model from the looks of it. If I might make a suggestion, please update your tagline as follows to assist others in helping you:
    MBP (Early 2006)
You can expand upon this as you like.
Perhaps I wasn't reading the original post, but what version of Windows were you running at the time?
As I recall, that model line of MacBook Pros needed an EFI firmware update to operate Boot Camp. Before the mid-2006 speed bump, these models also needed an SMC firmware patch. With the EFI update, your "Boot ROM revision" should be MBP11.0055.B08
If you can boot to Safe Mode, try using the Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features applet in your Control Panel to uninstall the ATI driver properly. Should that fail, search out "ATI Catalyst Uninstaller" using your favorite Web crawler. The first thing to come up should be AMD's uninstall tool, which you can then run to get rid of the driver.
Once you've done this, reinstall the ATI software from your Leopard/Boot Camp DVD and re-run the Boot Camp 2.1 patch from the Web; this should properly update the ATI software and get you back on track.
We would also need to rule out whether a recent update caused this issue, in which case rolling back to a prior restore point may help. You may lose documents created between the restore point time and the present, but this is normal.
The only other possibility I can suggest is to rebuild your entire Boot Camp setup and take notes as you get back up to the point where the blackout occurred. This way, you'll have some documentation handy whether you repost here or contact Apple directly.
    Good luck,
    Nate

  • Export problem - transitions and motion are not clear, lines

I am using FCP with a blend of pictures and video clips. When I do the export, the pictures are showing up pretty clear but the transitions are coming out unclear, like with lines through it. A sample is here:
    http://www.metrosportsimages.com/Reunion/testexport3.mov
I'm guessing this has to do with my export settings. I've tried exporting with numerous different settings and still no success. Once I changed the settings and it makes the pictures unclear so the transitions look "not so liney" looking, but that's just because the quality is lower and the blur is preventing the lines from showing as much.
I'm hoping someone can help. I am supposed to be burning this movie to DVD and producing 100 copies by Friday!
    Jennifer

This happened to me once, using stills in fcp, due to a problem with my hard drive: so I'd be interested to hear a resolution, particularly as I can't get back the project file due to said problem

  • T61 display problems - garbling and worse

For the past week I've been having problems with the display on my T61. At first it would just freeze for a few seconds and then tell me that nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered, then sometimes it would freeze up completely and show me weird snowy patches. Updating my display driver (NVIDIA quadro NVS M140) seems, if anything, to have made things worse, since display became garbled immediately from startup (when it presumably isn't even using the new display driver), though it did sometimes show something resembling what should be on the screen instead of just snowy patches. Once I managed to see through the snow to uninstall my driver, and then I went back to just having these nvlddmkm recoveries and occasional freezes, but when I updated BIOS and my display drivers, it went back to garbling everything, beginning at startup. Any ideas?

Your GPU is about to fail. Hopefully you got warranty.

  • Display problem after RAM Upgrade to MS6712

    Hi there,
after a RAM upgrade (512mb to 3GB) my PC has developed a display problem. The graphics are slow / rippled and video playback is very poor. In device manager no "display adapters" are present and there is also an error mesage referring to the VIA CPU to AGP2/AGP3.0 controller not having enough free resources to run due to a conflisct with VGAsave? I've downloaded the latest VIA chipset drivers to no effect?
System info: MS6712 MB, AMD Athlon 1.25GHZ, XP SP3.0

    OK, here's the info on my PSU;
    It's a Powerman FSP250-60GTU(PF). Input: 230V - 5A, 50Hz. Max Output: 250W
While I had the case open I took out 2 of the RAM modules and without making any other changes everything appeared to work fine with just the 1GB, so I tried putting 1 more back in to take it to 2GB and again all seems fine? Does this indeed point to my PSU then? If so and it works fine with 2GB should I be thankfull for a 512mb to 2GB upgrade and send the 3rd module back to Crucial??
Before I posted this thread I did run a memtest from Memtest86+ with all three modules installed and it came up with NO problems?
Re Henry's post, I searched using the format of the part no on the RAM modules themselves i.e. M368L2923FLN-CB3 and it took me here:
    http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/productListNonflexTable.do?fmly_id=118&sht_id=1
Other info on printed the modules themselves: 1GB DDR PC2700 CL2.5
According to Everest my CPU temp (with 2GB installed) is: 43 degrees (MOBO 30 degrees and HD 42 degrees) - do these seem normal?

I've got a problem with my iPod mini display: In the last few weeks the display got brighter and brighter.. or should I say I lost the contrast? .. so now I can't see anything on the display. The iPod works very well but I have to use it blind And the problem ist not solved by using the contrast settings! • Display problems of UML diagrams

    Hi,
I'm using UML class diagrams for a code generation, rev.eng. project etc.
I experience display problems, the classes sometimes are not displayed correctly, or don't show up at all, after I changed something in the model.
The classes have the package as background.
My guess is a partly incorrect drawing order (from back to top).
When I move the slidebar, or enforce a refresh by clicking the package,
everything is drawn from scratch on, and therefore correct then.
    Project size: 50+ classes
My first guess was to blame the system, but I'm having the same problems
    on a different computer.
Thus, please also state if you have experienced the same problem.
Gets a bit annoying over the time, when doing serious work.
    Greets

This is a known issue with redrawing/repainting when the elements are containing the container, eg, package. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Hot and Cold area viewing confusing me...

    Hi Everyone,
I've been using Aperture 2 since it came and I'm liking the workflow and integration with the rest of OSX. Today I stumbled upon something confusing. I was playing with the display hot and cold areas option and was finding that when I measured the hot areas with the loupe, that the color values weren't actually blown out...
For example, I had a picture of a rose that when zoomed in, I could see the detail in the petals but was still being flagged as blown out. When I did a loupe rgb read on a 1x1 pixel point, I found that the red value was around 211...I thought that hot areas are 255?
Maybe I'm confusing what "hot" means. I've even seen cases where the master image is flagged as having more hot areas even though it is less saturated and exposure level is lower.
Can something be wrong with the hot/cold area function? Can anyone give it a try and see what kind of values they are seeing with the hot and cold area viewer?
    Thanks.

    Hi stjuste
re Maybe I'm confusing what "hot" means. I've even seen cases where the master image is flagged as having more hot areas even though it is less saturated and exposure level is lower.
Thought I would check. Used a pic of a dancer at night with firebrands. Pic looks good as I shot it.
Measured the "Hot Spot' at 255, and some others at a lower value. The manual says:
Images may occasionally have overly bright areas where color information about the
area is beyond the standard limits of the Aperture working color space. For example,
white areas in an image brightly lit with direct sunlight, or bright flashes off a water
surface, may be so bright that their color is outside the working color space. In addition,
images may occasionally have black areas where color information about the area is
below the standard limits of the working color space. Aperture can display these “hot”
and “cold” areas of an image with tints on the image to help you identify hot and cold
areas. You may be able to adjust these areas and recover highlight and shadow detail
identified by the hot and cold area overlays by changing the exposure, the recovery, the
black point, or the gamma setting of the image.
This maybe of help.. maybe not. Probably like you I set up the pics how I want them not what any program tells me.
Interesting though. I will do a bit more checking.
    Cheers
    Tomix.

  • All menus have display problem (flash) when using FF on extended desktop monitor

I use two monitors at work. Each time I display FF on the "secondary" monitor (extended Desktop), all menus (normal menu, bookmarks, right click), flashes going from visible to hidden and so on).

I have the same problem. Windows 7 (64 Bit), extended desktop, 2 monitor system. I have AMD HD 4800 graphics card with all AMD updates current as of 12/8/2012.
The drop down menus display briefly (flicker) and then are not visible. If I am careful and know the dropdown line I want, I can blindly select it. This happens only on the second monitor on the extended desktop. If I move Mozilla to the primary monitor the same page works correctly.
Disabling the hardware acceleration and restarting Mozilla resolves the issue. While I can use Mozilla, it is still not ready for prime time using hardware acceleration.
Given that it is the only Browser or applicaiton that has this problem with displaying drop down menus on the second monitor, I would suggest that it is either a Mozilla hardware acceleration problem or Mozilla needs to work with the graphics card manufacturers to resolve a problem that only Mozilla seems to have with their drivers.

  • Report Title and Text Area issue when exported to pdf using Viewer

    Hi there,
We are using OracleBI Discoverer Version 10.1.2.55.26
We have reports that displays Report title containing the following
    - Report Title
    - Runt Date and Time
    - Page No
And text area which displays 'Last Page'
Following properties are set at the worksheet level using page setup
Report Title --> 'Print on every Page'
Text Area --> 'Print on last page'
The report when exported to PDF using Discoverer plus works fine and displays report title and text area as defeined.
But when we try to export the same report to pdf from Discoverer viewer, it displays
    - Report title on first page only.
    - text area on all pages
All our users accesses report using discoverer viewer so we cannot open discoverer plus to them.
Is there a solution which will enable us to export the report in pdf using discoverer viewer and displays the same output as discoverer plus.
Please let me know... If you have any questions then please feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance for your help...
    Manish

but when opened on other os x machines some text is colored differently than it should be
Well, if typographic objects are colour managed, the colour appearance is dependent on the source ICC profile that describes the colourants in the typographic objects and the destination ICC profile that describes the colours the display is able to form and the RBC colourant combinations that will form those colours.
In general, typographic objects should have special treatment, since the expectation is not that typographic objects should be colour managed, but that typographic objects should simple be set to the maximum density of dark. On a display, that is R=0 G=0 B=0 and on a seperations device (a lithographic press) that is C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100.
If for some reason typographic objects are colour managed, and if the ICC profiles for the displays are off by half a mile or more in relation to the actual state of the display system, then the colours will not be the same. On the other hand, if those displays are calibrated and characterized, then the colourants will be converted to form the same colours on the displays.
