Display title in spool generated in background processing of report

Hi All,
I am working on a report which uses splitter container to display report details as title in one part of the container and ALV report (using OOPS ALV) in the other part when executed in foreground.
I have referred the following links and added code accordingly to execute the report in background.
OOps ALV in background
CNTL_ERROR while running a report in background mode
But in the spool that is generated, I am able to see only the ALV output in the form of classical report without the report details as title. To add the tilte I have tried using "top_of_page" event, but it is not working. Please let me know how this can be achieved.
Thanks & Regards,
Ankit

Hi Sandeep,
Check if you can create batch job to run for S_ALR_87013558 using SM36
The Program name is GP8YTY7TBR1TYRPCIPKAC6X9GZG
Please check with ABAP.

  • Spool not generated for background job

    Hi all!
I have a Zprogram that does some validation and submits the data to transaction ME59 using SUBMIT statement. The program is running fine in foreground. When it is scheduled for background, the spool is not getting generated. I know that if a program contains SUBMIT statement, the spool will not be generated when run in background. But is there a way to make it work? The client requires the exact output that we get in foreground.

    Hi,
All spool requests will be stored in TSP01 table
    TSP01 - Spool Requests
field name for Spool request number is RQIDENT
    Hi,
Take a look at OSS Note 422136 which states:
"2. You can only store one spool request even if a step generates several spool requests during processing. The application is responsible for a "spool overview" in this case. If a step generates several spool requests during processing, only one request can be stored. In this case, the application report should issue the number with a message when writing a spool request so that it is then displayed in the job log."
Also take a look at OSS Note 519059 which further supports the case that you must capture the individual spool numbers as they are being created (i.e. within the job step's program). The note contains the following:
8] Question: How are the spool requests assigned?
Answer: The step information is stored in table TBTCP. This has space for exactly one spool request (field LISTIDENT). If a step generates several spool requests during the processing, only one can be stored. In this case the application is responsible for a "spool overview

  • Spool not generated in background mode

    Hi ,
I am fine tuning a report.
I am working on a program which is collecting data and exporting data into memory id. then two other reports, are importing data from memory and displaying in AlV/list.
When i execute this report in background the spool is not getting generated.
is there any way to generate the spool?
How to measure the execution time, as the program is taking much time and some times going to dump in case of time limit.
    Thanks ,
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
For measuring runtime use SE30 transaction. When u run in back ground it wont go to Dump. It may happen only in  fore ground. If at all it happend in back ground, the reason might be different. Analyze that dump n see what is going wrong. Also i dont think there is any time limit in back ground as i executed jobs that ran for 11 days!!!!. U can alos debug the batch job.
put break point in ur program, Select that batch job in SE37, enter jdbg in command promt and press enter. Control will go to debug mode.
Which ALV u r using. I think through OOPS ALV batch job will not create spool i guess. Not sure on this.
    Thanks,
    Vinod.

  • How to select a display varaint using VL06O with background processing

We are on 4.70 I would like to schedule a few delivery reports using VL06O I have created a selection variant which works fine. I am not able to select a display variant for background processing. If I process in the foreground the system uses the my user defined variant but not in background processing.

Background processing in VL06O is actually meant for outputting the delivery documents (picking list, delivery note etc.) and not the delivery list itself. The list of deliveries you see when releasing the spool request is for your reference only, not relevant to any layout maintenance.

  • How to trap warning messages generated from the background processing?

    Hi all,
Following is my requirement, i want to know whether it can be done and how?
The credit management (CM) warning messages generated as a result of the CM background processes, where do the messages go? Can you trap them and include them in an interface control report?
    Thanks

    Hi
If it's created a job for that process, you can try to read the log: here you should find all triggered messages, so the warning ones too.
U can try to use fm like BP_JOBLOG_READ or BP_JOBLOG_SHOW in order to get the log.

  • AIR vs. Flex: image generator as a background process on the server

I am running into problems with an image generator running on
    a headless server.
When I start up the server, it launches my java app. It reads
a list of report definitions from the data base. For each report,
it spawns a thread. Each thread launches my Flex application in a
    browser window.
Flex draws the data in charts. Each time data is pushed to
the flex application from the java server side, Flex calls a remote
java method to save it's image to a file. This file sits in a
directory where it can be viewed in a regular old html page.
The problem is really the automated aspect. I want to have
this chart generated every few minutes as a .png file. It works
perfectly fine on my localhost machine, but the server deployment
is so far not working, I think because it is headless. We have
firefox installed on the server. Is there no way to launch it as a
background process to draw these images? Should I turn this into an
AIR app (I've never done anything with AIR up to this point) to
make it run more easily in the background?
Java programmers all seem to think that running an image
generating process in a web browser window on the server is "bad
practice". So I think I am thinking maybe I should turn it into an
AIR app. I'm not sure though how to deploy AIR apps though. Can
they go in a .war file?
If someone has any ideas about this or if going AIR is the
wrong approach here please let me know. Thanks!

Not explicitly, as far as I know.
But you could always run it and then hide its window using Cmd+H, or the menu command "iCal" -> "Hide iCal". Click its dock icon to make it visible again.

Background job is generating multiple request.
i am not able to find the table which stores all the spool request for a particular background job.

  • ABAP Custom Report (ALV Format) in Background Processing

    Hi
I am not the hardcore ABAP Person. But want to know about the detail fact of the ABAP Custome Reports. The question is can we do the background processing for the ABAP Custome Report in ALV Format.
If Yes ..do we require to have any additional Function/code to get the spool in ALV Format. I saw the comments that the output will look like the mess.
Please share your comment or any useful documenation on this. We are in ECC 6.0
Thanks in advance..and yes it will be rewared by points.
    Navin

You can use alv's in background using docking containers, but the display wont be interactive. If you search the forum you will see tons of threads which talk about running ALV's in background.
For the output to be interactive, you can run the report in foreground and do the data processing in background.

  • Background processing

    hi all!!!!!!!
i have made one ALV report , with one pushbutton on application toolbar , whenever tht is clicked , PAI event is triggered and another LIST is displayed .
This is performing as required .
Now user wants , whenevr report is being executed in background , with the main ALV display they want to generate spool for the LIST which will be triggered after clicking pushbutton on toolbar .
IS THIS POSSIBLE in BACKGROUND , when no PAI is possible
this is being made using CLASSES
    Thanks in advance .

    Hi,
Whnever a report having list is run in background, spool will generate automatically. You can check in SP02 transaction for your user logon.
Or in SM37, give the program name and your user logon. You can see the spool list there.
If found useful, award points pls..

  • Background processing of interactive alv lists

    Hi,
I have an interactive alv list which works fine with online processing. When run in background it only create spool for the first list. What can be a solution other than merging all the secondary alv list to the primary list level. Can we create alv list (for background proesiing mode) for more than one internal table. (I think normally we can have only one internal table displayed in a list using reuse_alv). Please inform me if further details has to be published.
    Thanks and regards,
    Rajeeve Patric

online after first display user can interact with the report and so the secondary report can be displayed....now in background mode if u run it spools out first report...Now, someone has to interact with this report so that second report can be shown...But user can't interact with the first report in background process.....so, it might be that if report is running in background then the 2 reports needs to be merged and shown in one report...

  • Request could not be submitted for background processing

    Using Crystal Reports XI R2
    <br />Using Visual Studio .NET 2005
    <br />
<br />Here's the scenario.  The client goes to run a report and specifies the filters they want for the report.  We load a pre-built rpt with no saved data and pass the filters in to the report via the parameters.  We then generate and export the report to another rpt file with saved data using the PULL method from the report itself.  When the viewer wants to view the report the file (with saved data) is copied locally to the web server and the CrystalReportViewer control is pointed at the rpt with the saved data in it.  In almost every case the reports come up fine and display in the viewer no problem.  The error above (Request could not be submitted for background processing) tends to show itself in the CrystalReportViewer control whenever the report has large amounts of data (like 8 megs worth).  I've tried everything I can find on this issue including the steps listed in the white paper for this issue.
    <br />
<br />So just to be clear on the steps taken:
<br />1)If I take the saved rpt and open it in Crystal Reports itself then it works fine.
<br />2)If I point to the rpt with the CrystalReportViewer control in my development environment it works fine.
<br />3)I've run Process Monitor and there were a couple of access denied messages to one of the HKLM registry keys but I modified the permissions so those went away but the problem still remained
<br />4)As far as I can tell the report has no design issues.  Nothing runs over any edges, no overlapping of any kind, the Font itself exists on the machine in question.
<br />5)Its not a dataset problem since the report is using the PULL method to generate itself plus the rpt with saved data is correctly generated its just showing the above error when trying to view it in the control.
<br />6)The client is using a WIndows 2003 server, with 4 Quad Core processors and 8 gigs of RAM and 100 gigs of hard drive space remaining (so hardware is not an issue)
<br />7)In code the ReportDocument object is inside a using statement (C# .NET) and only exist for the brief period needed to create the rpt with saved data.  So they are getting closed and disposed of correctly.  Also as pointed out above the rpt with saved data is already being generated correctly its just not displaying in the control.
    <br />
<br />So to recap on a web server used by multiple people whenever a user tries to view a saved rpt file that has a large amount of data using the CrystalReportViewer control the error above tends to get generated even though the vast majority of the reports do display.  I'm at a loss for what else to try to make the report display correctly in the control.  Any thoughts would be helpful.

Make sure you are using SP6:

    Runtime

Other than that, I'd consider installing the CR designer - as a test, on the user machine and see if the designer can open the report.

  • SAP BI 7 - Background process performance Issue

This question is about efficiency of dialog process compared to inefficiency of the background process and I want suggestions from SAP Basis/BI experts on this.
We have observed that our background processes on BI server are not running as efficiently as we would like them to run.
    For example
    DSO activation:
When I use Dialog mode for DSO Activation with 3 parallel processes, I can activate a certain DSO with in 15 seconds. But the same DSO and the same data package when activated using background mode with 3 parallel process takes about 15 minutes.(there are plenty of background processes available on the system when this activation is running). So dialog process runs 60 times faster than background process.
In BI 7 most of the operations can be executed only in the background parallel mode. And from the activation example we know that our background processes are not as efficient as dialog processes. It
is understood that in general the background processes will not be as efficient as dialog processes, but in our case the difference is a factor of 60. We want help to identify, why the background processes are not as efficient as dialog processes. What SAP Basis settings need to be changed to make them as efficient as we can. Any suggestion or help will be highly appreciated.

    Hello Eswaran
Generally a dialog process is not faster by any means than a background workprocess. Nevertheless i trust you on your observations, so there must be some difference. I just did a small test, i ran SE16 chose a big table and selected 10000 rows, i did 3 tries in dialog and 3 in background. The results:
    dialog: 10.2s, 9.4s, 9.6s
    background: 26s, 24s, 24s
So even in my simple example the background execution took more time. The issue here is, that the resulting output (which is pretty large) had to be saved additionally in a spool (a total of 167 pages) when executed in background. The selection of the data certainly did not take more time in either case.
The most important difference between dialog and batch processes is the memory management. Dialog processes work with a shared memory segment (extended memory). Background processes have their private heap memory.
Nevertheless, background processes are not "slower" in general, not at all. You will need to observe closer, what your processes are doing. Maybe watching SM50 while running the DSO activation is enough to see it, maybe you need to trace a process. If you see large spools generated, or huge amounts of memory consumed, we might already have an answer.

  • How can we use cl_gui_html_viewer      in a background process.

    Hello,
Refering to this thread: Pie chart using Class cl_igs_chart ??
How can we use cl_gui_html_viewer     in a background process.
I want to execute a html code in bakground process in abap program.
    but using cl_gui_html_viewer   I have an error with CNTL_ERROR in the method CONSTRUCTOR;
    Thanks

    Marie,
I don't know about HTML viewer specifically, but whenever a GUI object is needed to be used in background, there is a standard method to avoid CNTL_ERROR.
When a program runs in background, there is no "screen" and hence no GUI, and hence a custom control can not be displayed. That is why the program generates an error.
The trick is to avoid creating the custom control in background.
      if sy-batch = 'X'. "background mode
    *   We don't want to create the custom control
      else. "dialog mode
        create object l_container exporting ...
      endif.
    * We really don't need a container for using CL_GUI_ objects
    * Proceed with the normal coding
      create object l_html_viewer
      exporting
        parent = l_container
