Displaying Alternate Text if Column is Empty

Coming back to the brain trust for this one. I have a Date/Time Column in a list. The Column is not required nor for internal business practices can it be made to be required (Don't get me started). In my search result template, I'm using the following code
to display the Date in a friendly format. However, If a date is not entered, the result that is returned is "Invalid Date"

Closing: _#=modifiedDate.toLocaleDateString()=#_
I would like to use JavaScript and query the result and if empty return the Text: "Open till filled"

you can do it with JS in the search result... but the search results will be the only place you can see it... you'd need to re-implement it any other places you want it... whereas an extra column (which, really, who the hell cares about the disk space
it consumes, the extra CPU that it takes to compute/index/etc, etc) will be globally available.

If you are looking for a tool tip on hovering over the image, try adding attribute -> title="Your text" inside your image tag.
For example <img src="" alt="" title="Test"> .

Display Alternate Text

I am looking for a way to display alternate text using a drop

Can "Standard Report Column" be the Default Instead of "Display as Text"

Almost every report region I write has some html in at least one column, whether it's a break or an apex_item or something else. Hence, when the region renders with the default settings, the column shows the html code - I have to change the column display type from "Display as Text" to "Standard Report Column".
Is there some setting to make "Standard Report Column" the default? (Isn't that kind of what the word Standard implies?)

The default was changed in APEX 4.0 to "Display as Text" (which escapes HTML-sensitive characters) as a security measure to limit vulnerability to XSS attack. There's no option to change this, and I doubt that one will be provided in the future. How to Display Formatted Text IN ALV Column?

I am displaying ALV with Multiple Column's , One of the Column is TEXT(Fomatted text).
When ALV is Displayed TEXT Column Comes as Continues TEXT . and is Not Formatted .
Now when i want to edit this text i am Calling another View which contains text edit . This Text edit will display correct Formatted Text . but when i save it and Come back to ALV again i do see continues text .
Is there any way where in i can display the Formatted text in ALV Column ?
Any body have any clue with this ...

I found Your blog and found it really interesting... though I was not able to use it: I (like Jun Li is asking, I guess) need to use a dynamic text, containing formatting informations (according the xhtml syntax).
I tried to pass it to the form by an ABAP-dictionary based interface and by means of the context (in a webdynpro page), but both tries failed.
Some suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

WebDynpro ABAP - Display Short Text instead of values in table column.

    i have Column in a table which displays subject. This column has domain associated ZDE_SUBJECT with fixed values & short text
Fix.Val    Short Text
01             Level 1

when i bind this cloumn to a table UI element. And have records for this table. At runtime inside the table column. i see values returned as 01, 02 , 03 ( basically fix val) my requirement is to display the corresponding short text. Is there any easy approach to do this???

Empty paragrpahs in a textflow cause runtime error when displaying the text

Hello there,
when I create a textflow which has empty ParagraphElements in
it (i.e. a ParagraphElement without any children) I get this
runtime error once I try to display the text in a container:
Error: Error #2175: One or more elements of the content of
the TextBlock has a null ElementFormat.
Is this a bug, or is there a legitimate reason for this
error? If so, I'd like to understand why. In my reasoning an empty
ParagraphElement should just result in the rendering of a newline.
But maybe I'm thinking too much in HTML terms here...

How to wrap the text in column headers?

Hi Friends,
Can anyone please suggest how to wrap the text in column headers of a Java WebDynpro table?
I believe that caption is the only UI element that a column header can have and it does not allow wrapping of the text.
My original requirement is as follows,
In a table I need to dynamically set the width of the columns according to the width configured by the user in some other view. All the columns of the table are dynamically rendered.
Now what happens is when the user sets the width of the column to a rather low value, say 15 pixels, then the column is displayed like
Supplier Catalog Name
Sheila
Catalog
Name
Dropdown
As you can see it looks rather odd.
Supplier Catalog Name is the header of the column and I use IWDCaption for header.
Sheila Catalog Name Dropdown is the value of a particular row at the specified column. I am using a TextView as the TableCellEditor.
I think what is happening here is that the framework wraps the text in the TextView according to the width specified (15px) and then the column width is extended because it can not accommodate the text (Supplier Catalog Name ) of the column header.
We are using SAP NetWeaver Development Studio 7.0.12 as the IDE.
I searched some forums and many people have suggested using scrollable columns but I don't understand how it will help in wrapping the text in a column header.
Any help would be of great advantage.

Thanks a lot for the answer but the option that you have specified does not wrap the text. Instead it truncates the text being displayed and only the substring of the text which could be displayed in the given pixels is displayed.
I need to show the whole text wrapped (Meaning if the width of the column is not sufficient then the text goes into the next line).

Thanks to you too for an helpful answer. It seems that the Netweaver has finally come up with a way to wrap the text in the column headers but as Manoj pointed out, I do not see the property headerTextWrapping for a table column, Can you please specify which version of netweaver supports it?

I have developed an ALV report.It is displaying the output.
There is another requirment for alv output text field as below
From the long text fields show only the first 20 characters and afterwards the long text icon. If the icon is clicked open the long text display screen.

Create a hotspot for the long text column of ALV.
When user clicks on the hotspot, handle the event to display long text screen.
You may refer sample program of hotspot ALV :
Goto SE38
Type BCALV*
Click F4
search for HOTSPOT or EVENTS & you will get a sample program.

How to display a text in a string as a link??

I am displaying a string in one of the column in my datagrid. I have to search for a specific text in the string and if it is there i have to display it as a link/linkbutton/button or anything which user can click.
E.g
String displayed in the datagrid column is "My Name is Pratik" and if text "Pratik" is found, i have to display "Pratik" as a link which user can click.
How can i achieve this??

If you want your text to be read-only, you can use the RichText component instead of TextArea. Search for Text Layout Framework for more info on how to mark up your text.

To display a text on the right hand corner of an ALV list in SAP

Hi All,
I need to display a text on the right most corner of the ALV list output where there are some details present at the top of the list.
I tried using the statement
CONCATENATE space space space space space space space space space space
              space space space space space space space space space space 'required text" INTO ls_line-info.
This ls_line is of type slis_listheader. But this statement did not work.
Can anyone please help me how do i display this "required text" at the right most corner above the ALV list?

How to display different text for labels in Group Above Report Oracle Repor

Is there a way to change the text that is displayed in Labels in a Group Above Report? For example, I have a Group Above report with my columns of data and above the columns I have my column labels, but I would like to be able to display various text, i.e. different labels based on condition. In other words, Column1 label could say Column 1 or This is Column1, based on a condition. This is Oracle Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2.

How do you set up so that you can view the alternate text on an image when you hover over it like you do in IE?

Using Mozilla at present the alternate text for an image does not pop up when you hover your mouse over the image. This is what occurs in Internet Explorer. In Mozilla Firefox you have to right click, choose Properties and then you can view the alternate text. Is there a way to set up the mouse hover? Or is there a keyboard shortcut to at least view the Properties information of an image on a webpage quicker?

The Alt attribute isn't meant to show as a tooltip on hover.

The title attribute is meant to show if you hover an image or link.
