Displaying most recent transactional edit vs parent transaction

I have a Crystal XI report developed to display testing data. The data is displayed for example:
ID             Parent ID           Date                           <additional columns for additional data>
10770                              8/5/2010  2:00:00pm
10771       10770               8/5/2010 6:00:00pm
On the database, if the parent id in this case is edited, we make a copy of the parent 10770 and created new ID 10771 with all of the same data except for the information that was changed.
This data lies in the group header #3.
On this report, how can I display only the most recent record which is 10771? I tried timestamp, various group level with no success.
Any recommendation is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Assuming ID is a number field then create a formula field :
stringvar IDtxt;
IDtxt:=totext({table/ID},0,"");
left(idtxt, len(idtxt)-1)
Group on this formula field (within your current groups).
Sort the records within this on ID descending.
Set out the group header with all the fields you want to see from the latest record.
Suppress the detail section.
