Displaying paramters in excel output

Hi, I am designing a report in excel format, using the 'True Excel' method.
Refering to the section "Declaring and Passing Parameters" in Link, it mentioned i can simply add this in the metadata worksheet.
XDO_PARAM_?1? <?param@begin:Country;US?>
XDO_?Country? <?$Country?>
And add XDO_?Country? as desired in the output worksheet as usual.
But I am not getting this work properly in running my report on R12 instance. The OPP log said Variable not defined.
Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance!

First, your default value needs to be surrounded by single quotes (use notepad to ensure they get ASCII characters)
XDO_PARAM_?1? <?param@begin:Country;'US'?>
Next, make sure you have defined this parameter in your report definition as well (i.e data model)

    I have developed a RTF with graph, when i moved the RTF and run the report through application (the Excel output is not showing the Graph,but in pdf output the graph is coming fine).
    I have gone through this documents
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E10091_01/doc/bip.1013/e05000/toc.htm
    and the forum question already raised for the same.

    Hi,
    Its looks like this might be the customization issue please have a look at the OSS Notes 457497 and refer to the questions 2, 3 &  4 may be you can get the idea (Specially 4).
    Why are some texts not printed at all?
    Answer:
    Which texts are printed depends on the Customizing settings of purchasing.
    Go to Customizing for purchasing.
    Choose "Messages -> Texts for Messages -> Define Texts for <Purchasing Document>". Choose "Print Document <Purchasing Document>". Select "Texts for Document Items" and add a new entry.
    You must specify a value for the print sequence in the detailed screen for your new entry.
    Let me know in case of any.

    You need not add HEADER1 HEADER2 to the internal table. You can just declare one field like below and append all the header columns to the internal table HEADER
    data : begin of IT_HEADING occurs 0,
             TEXT(15),
           end of IT_HEADING.
        IT_HEADING-TEXT = 'Company Code'.

    Hi Tim,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    The so called 'Excel templates' have been demonstrated to clients in this year's Oracle Open House (San Fransisco) i guess, and it is from there, that the need to develop such complex reports have come. It seems there was a demo that was given out to all the participants on this new technology. It would be great if you can share the demo with me or send me same/its link to my mail id ([email protected]). It would be extremely helpful in mapping the requirements with the upcoming tools from Oracle.
    Expecting the demo on this Excel templates from you. Awaiting the release of the new version soon.
    Thanks,

    There is an image in the RTF, the image is not displayed in the Excel output (its showing like 'X').

    You should put this issue on the XML Pub forum.
    I remember some specific setting required for linking images off the instance top. Check the XML Pub dev guide.

  • How to display Excel output in browser instead of client desktop

    Hi,
    Similar to PDF and Text output, Is it possible to display Excel Output In browser itself.
    Whenever we try to view the report where the output type is excel, the output opens in Excel Desktop version.

  • Is it possible to display a date as (DD-MON-YYYY) in excel output using excel template in xml publisher

    Is it possible to display a date as (DD-MON-YYYY) in excel output using excel template in xml publisher where date should be displayed as date only not string.

    I've tried to use hierarchy node variables, but it seems like you can't specify a attribute of the hierarchy such as level.  So with the WBS hierarchy, if you create a hierarchy node variable, you specify the WBS value to select (If I understand this correctly).  I wish I could instead specify "give me all the WBS nodes that happen to have the value of the level attribute greater or equal to 3.  If I understand Juergens post, he is saying make security access so that only certain WBS levels can be returned in the query.  I suppose we can try that, but that would then preclude getting the level 1 and 2 in the future if the authorization is global.

  • Excel Output is being displayed as HTML in the browser

    Hi All,
    I am using PeopleSoft XML Publisher 5.6.2 to generate an Excel report using RTF template. The report runs successfully.
    However, when I click the Output file link in the View Log page of process scheduler, the file is being displayed as a HTML page, though the extension of the file is .xls.
    Also when I try to save the file by using 'Save Taget as' option, the browser prompts me to save the file as 'mhtm' file and not 'xls' file.
    The following is an extract from the output file.
    <html>
    <!-- Generated by Oracle XML Publisher 5.6.2 -->
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/>
    <title>IM Top 10 Surplus &amp; Deficit Locations</title>
    After doing some research on Internet, I found the following blog post(dated back in 2008) to describe my situation and a workaround to the problem.

    http://peoplesofttipster.com/2008/04/18/xls-xmlp-output-opens-in-browser-workaround/
    Workaround described in the above blog post is to update the charset to us-ascii replacing UTF-8. This seems to work. But with limited file processing capabilities of peoplecode, this workaround is not a simple solution.
    I also verified the mime-type mapping in the web.xml file in the webserver. Please find below the .xls mime-type mapping in the web.xml file.
    <mime-mapping> <extension> xls </extension> <mime-type> application/vnd.ms-excel</mime-type></mime-mapping>
    Question:
    1.How do I force the browser to open the excel output file using either Excel plugin or Excel Application instead of displaying it as HTML page?
    2.If not the above, how can I force the system to promt the user to save the file as Excel file instead of mhtml?

    if so, it has to be handled little differently.
    Place this line in the beginning of the rtf
    <?param@begin:_xf;''?>
    add this condition on number column for Excel output
    <?if:$_xf='excel' and NUMBER_TO_CHECK < 0?> <?concat('(',NUMBER_TO_CHECK,')')?><?end if?>

    Say that I have element named 'market'

    Replaced the number field with this condition: <?if:$_xf='excel' and market< 0?> <?concat('(',market,')')?><?end if?>
    This is giving me a blank output in place of the number.

  • XML Publisher report not printing excel output due to special characters

    Hello,
    I am trying to create a xml publisher report which should display the output in excel. But the program completes with a warning status and the output is displayed as XML instead of excel, with some errors "An invalid character was found in text content. If i give rownum < 10 in my query, where there are no such characters it works fine and i am getting an excel output.
    Tried changing the XML encoding and it doesn't help (both mentioned below)
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

    Thanks for your response. But i could not understand how can we write wrapper program could you please give some light on this or provide some link it would be helpful for me:-)
    I have read that blog for excel limitations but i have more question?
    1) What about the negative values?
    if any field is displaying negative amount then excel not displaying right value for that:(
    2)How can we align header or data?
    Do XMLP with EBS provide any solution for formatting in excel?
    3) If for the alignment of numeric value we concatenate them with any special character then how can we perform calculation that field?
    Here are so many formatting issues do we need to write any code in xml for that?
    Please help.

  • Problem with images in XML with excel output

    Hello:
    I made an XML concurrent program, with excel output, but i am having a problem:
    The rtf template has a logo (bmp image), but it is not showing in the excel (if i execute the concurrent in the oracle applications). However, if i create the xml in Oracle Reports in my computer, and then load that xml in the rdf template in word, i can see the logo in the excel preview. I don't know why is it not showing when i execute the program in applications.
    If someone can help me with this, i will be very grateful.

    xml cP, will not give you a image in excel output,..
    In RDF there is a placeholder for image, and the image is located in certain location, at runtime it picks and render the output with logo.
    but xml CP, will get the data in xml type and merge with rtf to get the output you wanted..
    if you have the rtf with logo embedded in it, if output is of pdf or rtf output , then it will display the logo ,.
    in excel currently it is not possible to show the logo,..
    excel you see could be xml-excel or csv-excel not the true binary excel.
    to get the logo embedded ,for that you have to wait on tim for the excel template, which will be release in near future i guess..
