Displaying Streaming Web Cam?

Hello, I'm using VLC to stream FLV video over the web. This
is from a web cam, so I want live streaming, and hopefully real
time. I'm using http for streaming. I can't stream via rtmp.
I want to capture and display that video in a Flex
application. How do I go about doing this?
Would I use the NetConnection and VideoDisplay?
Note, I can stream most other formats as well, so if it is
possible to embed, for example, a Windows Media Player in a flex
app, that would probably be acceptable.
Thanks for any feedback!
...John

Hi,
You can try a package named: JTwain, which is available at http://asprise.com/product/jtwain.
JTwain supports all kinds of digital cameras and scanners. You can use Java to access, contorl digital cameras and scanners, and of course, to acquire images with flexible settings.
The developers' guide is available @ http://asprise.com/product/jtwain/devGuide.php
In the simplest case, one line of Java code can solve your problem.
Good luck!

• Streaming web cam question

Is there any software, etc. to be able to get the streaming webcams on the net? These are horses foaling and the servers, marestare.com and wefoal.com say they are not available for Macs, wefoal told me to get a real computer, needless to say I told him to get with the program. I am bummed not to be able to watch as most farms are switching to these streaming cams.
[email protected]

Marestare is using ActiveX for their streaming. ActiveX is a Windows-only technology, so short of running Virtual PC on your Mac so you can run Windows, there's no way to view those webcams on your system. It appears that Wefoal is doing the same, though I didn't check all their sites.
Tell those sites that not everyone is interested in dealing with viruses, worms and spyware and so don't run Windows, so they need to get rid of their Microsoft-proprietary technology and use industry standards for web streaming instead.

• Safari 6.0 No Longer Displays Linksys Web Cam Video

I have been using a Linksys WVC54GCA for serveral years. I view the camera setup and video on my browser. With the new Safari 6.0 in Mountain Lion, I can no longer display video from my Linksys Cam. It works fine in Firefox and on my iPhone/iPad. Has anyone else seen a problem displaying video on Safari?

I have a similar problem with an EasyN IP camera. Worked perfectly under Lion / Safari 5. With Mountain Lion and Safari 6 I get about 2-3 seconds of video before the video stops. As mentioned in one of the replies above, it seems Safari is doing something weird with it handling of the cgi script for the video feed served up by the IP camera. I haven't found any error messages so tracking down the root cause is proving elusive.

• How to do Audio/Vedio streaming between web cams and back end servers?

I want to implement an internet chat application, I mean, I want a front end, which connects a web cam (mic and speaker). So, I can send videos and audios to a back end server (do flash streaming? but I am not sure what good product out there I can use), and also send both A/V to another computer on the internet. In other words, need a front end that sends local a/v from webcam (&mic) to backend and receives remote a/v from backend to webcam (and speaker) + backend streaming server.
Any suggestions of techniques to be used? What back end flash streaming server should I sue? How to acquire A/V from web cam (& mic) and how to send A/V to web cam (&speaker) to play?
Thanks a lot!

Front end development:- You can use Flash CS4/CS5 or Flex Builder.
Back-end Programming - Server-side programming is basically done using ActionScript. You can use Flash CS4 , but there is no need for special authoring tool, you can do with even text-editor. After you author, you just need to place files at proper location on FMS.
Front-end runtime - You just need Flash Player installed , basically active-x or plug-in in your browser - which you would already have by now
Also if you decide to write AIR application for your front-end, you will need AIR - which is again free
Hope that answers your questions

• Am I the only one that would like to see a web cam on Cinema Displays?

For the price of an Apple HD Cinema display, it seems like a no-brainer that they would have web cams installed on all monitors, especially considering how inexpensive web cams are these days. Even though I use my Cinema display at work, it is not inconceivable to imagine professionals needing to use video conferencing.
The advice I got from an Apple rep was to buy a MICROSOFT Lifecam! The last thing I want after 23 years of Bill Gates is to have to buy a microsoft product.
Am I alone on this?

No your not alone, I have 2 23"HD displays on my MacPro, and also have the 20" Imac, I love my webcam on my Imac and miss it on the new MacPro. The Isight camera cost like 275.00 why cant apple provide on int he display? Also what about the remote like you get with the Imac...nice to use with Itunes as well =)..coommon apple...offer free upgrades heheh

• Mozilla won't display web cam feed from web site

Mozilla won't display web cam feed from web site: http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c4/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gDfxMDT8MwRydLA1cj72DTUE8TAwjQL8h2VAQAMtzFUw!!/?ss=110803&navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&cid=fsm9_029107&navid=091000000000000&pnavid=null&position=Not%2520Yet%2520Determined.Html&ttype=detailfull&pname=Chattahoochee-Oconee%2520National%2520Forest-%2520Home
I have the latest Java software and can load the above feed in IE but not Mozilla. I can also load a similar Java feed from
http://www.brmemc.net/brasstown/ in both IE and Mozilla.

(Glad to see you're still lurking around here, Wyrenut. Your posts have helped me tremendously. And this comes form somebody who has run and internal developer's support group for quite a few years.)
I also started having this problem after getting my TX hooked up through my home network. I had to set up a wireless access point with only WPA security to get around having to change the WPA2 security on all my other equipment. I applied the ESU upgrade, but that didn't seem to help with WPA2 Personal. Previously, I could get at least half of the pages to come up through the open hotspot in the lobby of our building at work, but I haven't tried that since I applied the ESU upgrade this morning.
I can get to the internet through the access point using a laptop, and I can see the IP address of the Palm coming through the access point on the router's admin page, and the DNS addresses of the PC and the Palm are the same. So I think I'm through, but every page I try gets the 'Page not available' message, even if I enter the IP address of the page rather than the URL.
Is there any other method of debugging available to see if the page is really coming back and locking up Blazer, or whether it's really not coming back at all? Or any other suggestions?
Personally, I sort of liked the old Internet Explorer that counted off how many K were coming through as the page was being loaded. At least you could tell something was happening.
Thanks,

• How to display video from UDP web camera

hi
Im interfacing to a Sony IPELA video camera that has a built in http web server. i can send individual HTTP commands to authenticate, to retrieve still jpeg images from the camera and to control tilt pan zoom. but when i initiate video, there is nothing, the bits fall onto the floor.
As a result of searching it seems that software related to web cam applications is needed. I thought how about Labview? is there a way to make an object that will consume an RTP video stream? it can be H.264 or mjpeg or mpeg4
thanks so much

hi
Sony has some boilderplate/example code that runs in visual studio, your Sony rep for this camera should be able to send you the latest. i might be able to find the older stuff but its old
you setup the solution file in VS and it lets you get video and set parameters from your program. i suppose that a connection between labview and this could be made such that the .vi controls the Win32 directly, so it doesnt have to know about the Sony camera it just interfaces to the .dll but how to get the stream object and the video in the .vi ? would take time to figure out
also what we did was go with http://www.intuvisiontech.com/products/panoptes.php and now that i think about it, there is a free video software app to get the stream data but they mention it in their website, the icon has a picture of a cone? like construction zone warning cone
anyway these folks are very helpful

• Streaming video using a web camera is choppy

Hello,
I have an swf program built with flex which displays video from a web camera. The problem is that the the video is being displayed a bit choppy. You can see an example at https://www.completelyonlinetestserver.com/Flex/videobox.html. Try holding a piece of paper with writing in front of the camera and you will see that the writing is very choppy.
What can I do to make the video clearer? Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks
Armen

Hmmm...I dont have the drivers installed on my computer for my web cam to work, but when I compile that example do get the trace output, "You need a camera.". So that part works. Below is the code ported into an MXML file.

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute"
applicationComplete="CameraExample();">

private var video:Video;
public function CameraExample()
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
stage.align      = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
var camera:Camera = Camera.getCamera();
if (camera != null)
camera.addEventListener(ActivityEvent.ACTIVITY, activityHandler);
video = new Video(camera.width * 2, camera.height * 2);
video.attachCamera(camera);
addChild(video);
else
trace("You need a camera.");
private function activityHandler(event:ActivityEvent):void {
trace("activityHandler: " + event);

• Video Streaming on Web Browser from Web Camera

How to run Web Camera on to the Web Browser through JAVA and JMF?

How to run Web Camera on to the Web Browser
through JAVA and JMF? As someone who has written dozens of applets, and
helped debug hundreds of them, I can tell you that
applets are not for beginners.
Whenever I must have an applet that is any more
than completely trivial, I will code it as a combined
application/applet, if only for making testing faster
and easier.
Further, if you have a working application, it can be
'launched from a link', just like an applet, but using
web start.
I suggest you put aside the applet idea for the
moment, and concentrate on doing this in an
application.
When that is working, you can decide whether
to launch it using web start, or embed it as an
applet in a web page.
Here is an example of launching JMF (the
player) using web start.
http://www.javasaver.com/testjs/jmf/#test5
As far as coding for a web cam, a quick Google leads to..
"Here is the source code to JMF Webcam app + saves jpeg"
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=247253
2 notes:
1) I found that URL for the web cam code using
Google. I have never dealt with web cams myself.
2) Normally I ignore threads with no dukes. I am
usually pretty busy, and dukes indicate how
important a thread is - to whoever is asking.
So, if you want to complete this task faster, you might
- search for answers first.
- add dukes to any question, to indicate interest.

• Corrupted image in applet from web cam

Hi there I created a little webcam server application that listens to port 8080 for requests, then displays an image. The image is jpeg encoded frame grabbed from a logitech web cam using the java media framework. I got the code from this forum.
I have tried it across a 56kb modem on four different computers. On three the applet displays the images without problems. On the fourth the image is corrupted like it didn't receive all the data.
Anyone have any idea why this occurs in one and not the others

Hi,
I don't know how to solve this problem,
but I want to ask you how you managed to get
FrameGrabbingControl which is not null.
I use Logitech QickCam and everytime when I try to get a FrameGrabbingControl from the Player it returns me null?
Can you help me?
have you any ideas why I get null?
WebCamLocator - is OK. If I can use it to record a video clip. But I can't take a single frame..
Manager.setHint( Manager.LIGHTWEIGHT_RENDERER, new Boolean(true) );
Player WebCamPlayer = Manager.createRealizedPlayer(WebCamLocator);
WebCamPlayer.start();
FrameGrabbingControl fgc = (FrameGrabbingControl)WebCamPlayer.getControl("javax.media.control.GrabbingControl");
Buffer buf = fgc.grabFrame();

BOUGHT 8 MAY OF THIS YEAR. WEBCAM WORKED PERFECTLY. NOW WEBCAM DOESN'T WORK. I'VE DONE ALL THE STANDARD UNINSTAL/RE-INSTALL OF THE DRIVER OR MORELESS THE "TOSHIBA WEBCAM APPLICATION". I'VE ELECTED UPDATE DRIVER AND ITS GONE TO THE MICROSOFT SITE AND STATED IT WAS THE MOST UPDATED. I'VE COME TO THIS SITE AND DOWNLOADED THE WEBCAM UPDATE POSTED AUGUST OF LAST YEAR, TO NO AVAIL, NOTHING.
I HAVE VERIFIED THROUGH THE DEVICE MANAGER IT'S INSTALLED AND ACCORDING TO IT THE DEVICE IS WORKING PROPERLY. SKYPE NOR FACEBOOK CAN FIND IT. WHEN I OPEN THE TOSHIBA APPLICATION, THE PRETTY BLUE LIGHT ON TOP OF THE SCREEN COMES ON, THE VIEW BOX OPENS AND ITS PITCH BLACK.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED AS THIS IS THE 3RD TOSHIBA IN A ROW I'VE BOUGHT DONE BASIC OPS ON AND THEY STOP OPERATING DEVICES I'M NOT USING. THIS ONE IS IN FACT A FREE REPLACEMENT OF THE LAST ONE THAT BURNT UP AS THE FAN COULDN'T KEEP IT COOL ENOUGH. LIL FRUSTRATED SORRY. Satellite L505D-GS6000
Perhaps you mean you have the Satellite L505D-GS6000? Let's try a reinstall of the main base drivers, then the webcam driver/app, one more time. Download and install these drivers in this order:
AMD/ATI Display Driver for Windows 7 (32/64) v8.634.1
Realtek Audio Driver for Windows 7 (32/64)(v6.0.1.5904)
Toshiba Web Camera Application for Windows XP/7 (32/64)(v1.1.1.6)
Then try the webcam again. Please let us know if it works, or if you get any error messages trying the above reinstalls. Good luck

• Capture Web Cam image in APEX and Upload into the Database

Overview
By using a flash object, you should be able to interface with a usb web cam connected to the client machine. Their are a couple of open source ones that I know about, but the one I chose to go with is by Taboca Labs and is called CamCanvas. This is released under the MIT license, and it is at version 0.2, so not very mature - but in saying that it seems to do the trick. The next part is to upload a snapshot into the database - in this particular implementation, it is achieved by taking a snapshot, and putting that data into the canvas object. This is a new HTML5 element, so I am not certain what the IE support would be like. Once you have the image into the canvas, you can then use the provided function convertToDataURL() to convert the image into a Base64 encoded string, which you can then use to convert into to a BLOB. There is however one problem with the Base64 string - APEX has a limitation of 32k for and item value, so can't be submitted by normal means, and a workaround (AJAX) has to be implemented.
Part 1. Capturing the Image from the Flash Object into the Canvas element
Set up the Page
Required Files
Download the tarball of the webcam library from: https://github.com/taboca/CamCanvas-API-/tarball/master
Upload the necessary components to your application. (The flash swf file can be got from one of the samples in the Samples folder. In the root of the tarball, there is actually a swf file, but this seems to be a different file than of what is in the samples - so I just stick with the one from the samples)
Page Body
Create a HTML region, and add the following:

Capture

That will create the webcam container, and an empty canvas element for the captured image to go into.
Also, have a hidden unprotected page item to store the Base64 code into - I called mine P2_IMAGE_BASE64
HTML Header and Body Attribute
Add the Page HTML Body Attribute as:
onload="init(320,240)"
JavaScript
Add the following in the Function and Global Variable Declarations for the page (mostly taken out of the samples provided)
//Camera relations functions
var gCtx = null;
var gCanvas = null;
var imageData = null;

}In the footer region of the page (which is just a loading image to show whilst the data is being submitted to the collection [hidden by default]) :If you give it a quick test, you should be able to see the webcam feed and capture it into the canvas element by clicking the capture link, in between the two elements - it might through a JS error since the clob_Submit() function does not exist yet.
*Part 2. Upload the image into the Database*
As mentioned in the overview, the main limitation is that APEX can't submit values larger than 32k, which I hope the APEX development team will be fixing this limitation in a future release, the workaround isn't really good from a maintainability perspective.
In the sample applications, there is one that demonstrates saving values to the database that are over 32k, which uses an AJAX technique: see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/application-express/packaged-apps-090453.html#LARGE.
*Required Files*
From the sample application, there is a script you need to upload, and reference in your page. So you can either install the sample application I linked to, or grab the script from the demonstration I have provided - its called apex_save_large.js.
*Create a New Page*
Create a page to Post the large value to (I created mine as 1000), and create the following process, with the condition that Request = SAVE. (All this is in the sample application for saving large values).declare
l_code clob := empty_clob;
begin
dbms_lob.createtemporary( l_code, false, dbms_lob.SESSION );
for i in 1..wwv_flow.g_f01.count loop
dbms_lob.writeappend(l_code,length(wwv_flow.g_f01(i)),wwv_flow.g_f01(i));
end loop;
apex_collection.create_or_truncate_collection(p_collection_name => wc_pkg_globals.g_base64_collection);
apex_collection.add_member(p_collection_name => wc_pkg_globals.g_base64_collection,p_clob001 => l_code);
htmldb_application.g_unrecoverable_error := TRUE;
end;I also created a package for storing the collection name, which is referred to in the process, for the collection name:create or replace
package
wc_pkg_globals
as
g_base64_collection constant varchar2(40) := 'BASE64_IMAGE';
end wc_pkg_globals;That is all that needs to be done for page 1000. You don't use this for anything else, *so go back to edit the camera page*.
*Modify the Function and Global Variable Declarations* (to be able to submit large values.)
The below again assumes the item that you want to submit has an item name of 'P2_IMAGE_BASE64', the condition of the process on the POST page is request = SAVE, and the post page is page 1000. This has been taken srtaight from the sample application for saving large values.//32K Limit workaround functions
function clob_Submit(){
$x_Show('AjaxLoading')
$a_PostClob('P2_IMAGE_BASE64','SAVE','1000',clob_SubmitReturn);
function clob_SubmitReturn(){
if(p.readyState == 4){
$x_Hide('AjaxLoading');
$x('P2_IMAGE_BASE64').value = '';
}else{return false;}
function doSubmit(r){
$x('P2_IMAGE_BASE64').value = ''
flowSelectAll();
document.wwv_flow.p_request.value = r;
document.wwv_flow.submit();
}Also, reference the script that the above code makes use of, in the page headerAssuming the script is located in workspace images, and not associated to a specific app. Other wise reference #APP_IMAGES#
*Set up the table to store the images*CREATE TABLE "WC_SNAPSHOT"
"WC_SNAPSHOT_ID" NUMBER NOT NULL ENABLE,
"BINARY" BLOB,
CONSTRAINT "WC_SNAPSHOT_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("WC_SNAPSHOT_ID")
create sequence seq_wc_snapshot start with 1 increment by 1;
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER "BI_WC_SNAPSHOT" BEFORE
INSERT ON WC_SNAPSHOT FOR EACH ROW BEGIN
SELECT seq_wc_snapshot.nextval INTO :NEW.wc_snapshot_id FROM dual;
END;
Then finally, create a page process to save the image:declare
v_image_input CLOB;
v_image_output BLOB;
v_buffer NUMBER := 64;
v_start_index NUMBER := 1;
v_raw_temp raw(64);
begin
--discard the bit of the string we dont need
select substr(clob001, instr(clob001, ',')+1, length(clob001)) into v_image_input
from apex_collections
where collection_name = wc_pkg_globals.g_base64_collection;
dbms_lob.createtemporary(v_image_output, true);
for i in 1..ceil(dbms_lob.getlength(v_image_input)/v_buffer) loop
v_raw_temp := utl_encode.base64_decode(utl_raw.cast_to_raw(dbms_lob.substr(v_image_input, v_buffer, v_start_index)));
dbms_lob.writeappend(v_image_output, utl_raw.length(v_raw_temp),v_raw_temp);
v_start_index := v_start_index + v_buffer;
end loop;
insert into WC_SNAPSHOT (binary) values (v_image_output); commit;
end;Create a save button - add some sort of validation to make sure the hidden item has a value (i.e. image has been captured). Make the above conditional for request = button name so it only runs when you click Save (you probably want to disable this button until the data has been completely submitted to the collection - I haven't done this in the demonstration).
Voila, you should have now be able to capture the image from a webcam. Take a look at the samples from the CamCanvas API for extra effects if you wanted to do something special.
And of course, all the above assumed you want a resolution of 320 x 240 for the image.
Disclaimer: At time of writing, this worked with a logitech something or rather webcam, and is completely untested on IE.
Check out a demo: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=trents_demos:webcam_i (my image is a bit blocky, but i think its just my webcam. I've seen others that are much more crisp using this) Also, just be sure to wait for the progress bar to dissappear before clicking Save.
Feedback welcomed. Hmm, maybe for some reason you aren't getting the base64 version of the saved image? Is the collection getting the full base64 string? Seems like its not getting any if its no data found.
The javascript console is your friend.
Also, in the example i used an extra page, from what one of the examples on apex packages apps had. But since then, I found this post by Carl: http://carlback.blogspot.com/2008/04/new-stuff-4-over-head-with-clob.html - I would use this technique for submitting the clob, over what I have done - as its less hacky. Just sayin.

• Capture an image using the web camera from a web application

Hi All,
Could anyone please share the steps what have to be followed for capture an image using the web camera from a web application.
I have a similar requirement like this,
1) Detect the Webcam on the users machine from the web application.(To be more clear when the user clicks on 'Add Photo' tool from the web application)
2) When the user confirms to save, save the Image in users machine at some temporary location with some unique file name.
3) Upload the Image to the server from the temporary location.
Please share the details like, what can be used and how it can be used etc...
Thanks,
Suman

1) Detect the Webcam on the users machine from the web application.(To be more clear when the user clicks on 'Add Photo' tool from the web application)There's not really any good way to do this with JMF. You'd have to somehow create a JMF web-start application that will install the native JMF binaries, and then kick off the capture device scanning code from the application, and then scan through the list of devices found to get the MediaLocator of the web cam.
2) When the user confirms to save, save the Image in users machine at some temporary location with some unique file name.You'd probably be displaying a "preview" window and then you'd just want to capture the image. There are a handful of ways you could capture the image, but it really depends on your situation.
3) Upload the Image to the server from the temporary location.You can find out how to do this on google.
All things told, this application is probably more suited to be a FMJ (Freedom for Media in Java) application than a JMF application. JMF relies on native code to capture from the web cams, whereas FMJ does not.
Alternately, you might want to look into Adobe Flex for this particular application.

For weeks I have been viewing a doggy day care center via their web cam. This weekend I upgraded to Lion and have been unable to view the center. I get an error message for Java plug-in 1.6.0_29 ....webcam class not found. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Sorry, don't know what else to suggest unless there's a URL to the problem stream that someone here can try. Otherwise we can't test it to try and determine what might be wrong.
BTW, make sure they're testing it with a Mac, not with a Windows system. If they test only with Windows, what they say is or is not working doesn't mean much.
Regards.
