Distributed Database Connectivity

Working with 8.0.5 Enterprises with Developer 6i, Two remote databases can be connected sucessfully with hoststring, data can be viewed from both the databases , but when i want to transfer one table data from local database via cursor as soon as the link is down the cursor closed out and the data is lost, I need help and if possible gudance for the same problem.

  • JDeveloper 10g - ODBC (MS-Access) database connection

    Hi!
    I'm a new JDeveloper user.
    I can connect to an ODBC (Access) database and I can see tables in Oracle JDeveloper 9i. It's work fine.
    I can connect to an ODBC (Access) database but I CAN'T see tables in Oracle JDeveloper 10g(Connections Navigator-tables). It's NOT expanding table items. But when I enter an select sql command in SQL worksheet, it shows me datas in my tables. it's work. How can I resolve this problem?
    I've downloaded only JDeveloper 10g Preview zip file at www.oracle.com. Do I need download any program or application/driver ?
    Thanks...

    Note that JDeveloper 10g is only a preview release-- i.e. a beta. I'm sure that there are bugs in it at the moment which will be addressed in the final release.

  • Changing database connection details aftre WAR file deployment

    Hello,
    I create a WAR deployment file and distribute this to a Tomcat web container. The package unpacks as expected however the production database details are different from my devlopment environment. The database connection name is the same. I thought if I simply change the connection details in the connections.xml file and restart the web app this would do the trick. It does not. What am I missing?

    Maybe your application is using a connection as defined in data-sources.xml. Check there.

  • Distributed Database + DB13 + SAPXPG + Standalone Gateway

    Hi All,
    I knew this question has been asked and answered but i still couldn't find the concrete solution. Any advise is mostly welcome.
    I've installed Distributed Database on Solaris and CI on Solaris as well. Due to security reason and policies, our customer stop us from using RSH.
    I've installed standalone gateway in Distributed Database with System Name EGW, system number 20. My SAP and DB name is AEP.
    gwrd is started using egwadm. TCP_IP connection SAPXPG_DBDEST_DBHOSTNAME works fine, however when i kick off checkDB in DB13, i got the below error:
    "> Function: BtcXpgPanicCan't exec external program (No such file or directory)"
    Have i miss out something? Do i need to add any ENV to egwadm or edit the SAPXPG program?
    fyi, br* and SAPXPG authorization are all set correctly in /sapmnt/AEP/exe. Env for AEPadm in CI is identical to AEPadm in DB server.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Nicholas Chang.

    Hi All,
    Since there's no SAP Note explaining how to setup standalone gateway in UNIX env and incorporate for brtools to work in distribtuted system. I'll summarize the resolution here:
    1) Install GW in database server
    2) update the GW start profile with below value:
    BGW = Gateway's SID.
    SETENV_00 = LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$(DIR_LIBRARY):%(LD_LIBRARY_PATH)
    SETENV_01 = SHLIB_PATH=$(DIR_LIBRARY):%(SHLIB_PATH)
    SETENV_02 = LIBPATH=$(DIR_LIBRARY):%(LIBPATH)
    SETENV_03 = ORACLE_SID=SID
    SETENV_04 = SAPDATA_HOME=/oracle/
    SIDSETENV_05 = PATH=$PATH:/home/BGWadm:/usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run:/usr/bin:.:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/ucb:/oracle/SID/112_64/bin
    3) update BGWadm env profile - sapenv_HOSTNAME.csh
    setenv SAPDATA_HOME /oracle/SID
    setenv ORACLE_SID   SID
    setenv PATH /home/bgw:/usr/sap/BGW/SYS/exe/run:/usr/bin:.:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/ucb:/oracle/SID112_64/bin
    setenv ORACLE_HOME /oracle/SID/112_64
    setenv USER bgwadm
    setenv dbs_ora_schema SAPSR3
    setenv NLS_LANG AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8
    setenv DB_SID SID
    setenv dbs_ora_tnsname SID
    setenv dbms_type ORA
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run:/oracle/SID/112_64/lib
    setenv DIR_LIBRARY /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run
    4) copy br* to gateway's /sapmnt/SID/exe/ and ensure 4775 is granted
    5)Create the special OPS$ setting to allow BGWADM to log into the database.  use the script below .  Log in as oraSID to run this on DB host via SQLPLUS (connect /as sysdba)
    CREATE USER "OPS$BGWADM" DEFAULT TABLESPACE PSAPSR3USR
    TEMPORARY TABLESPACE PSAPTEMP IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY;
    grant unlimited tablespace to "OPS$EGWADM" with admin option;
    grant connect to "OPS$BGWADM" with admin option;
    grant resource to "OPS$BGWADM" with admin option;
    grant connect to "OPS$BGWADM" with admin option;
    grant resource to "OPS$BGWADM" with admin option;
    grant sapdba   to "OPS$BGWADM" with admin option;
    CREATE TABLE "OPS$BGWADM".SAPUSER
    (USERID VARCHAR2(256), PASSWD VARCHAR2(256));
    INSERT INTO "OPS$BGWADM".SAPUSER VALUES ('SAPSR3',
    'your_password');
    6) stop gateway and kill gateway sapstartsrv
    7) start gateway
    8) in CI - SM59 - TCP_IP -> SAPXPG_HOSTNAME_DB -> ensure gateway host is points to DB server and sapgw is the system number for DB Gateway
    9) test checkDB in db13.
    Cheers,
    Thanks,
    nicholas chang.

    Hi Haidar,
    Actually, SQL Server does not recognize "distributed database" as concept.
    Based on your description, you want to access databases located at different locations. To achieve the requirement, you can create
    linked servers
     or configure
    replication in SQL Server.
    Linked servers provide SQL Server the ability to access data from remote data sources. Using these mechanisms, you can issue queries, perform data modifications and execute remote procedures.
    Replication is a set of technologies for copying and distributing data and database objects from one database to another and then synchronizing between databases to maintain consistency. Using replication, you can distribute data to different locations and
    to remote or mobile users over local and wide area networks, dial-up connections, wireless connections, and the Internet.
    There are also detailed blogs and similar thread for your reference.

  • Distributed database environment

    In my one Jheadstart project, it will meet distributed database environment, that is some one project's application data be located in different oracle database .
    How to treat this situation, about in one project to handle distributed database environment ?
    Is the jheadstart support multi database connection ?
    or need through database link capacity to fulfill !

    Ting Rung,
    There is at least one thing that you might run into, and that is the issue of transaction management. An application module represents a 'data model' for a tak that is accomplished within one transaction. You can nest application modules, but even then will the top-level application module provide the transaction context.
    This means that all data that necessarily needs to be persisted in one transaction, needs to be represented by the same (hierarcy of) application module(s) and therefore must come from the same data source (database). Said in other words: when the customers are in one database and the orders in another, you cannot persist them in one and the same transaction.
    There are more issues related to distributed applications. I have no experience with that, so I cannot comment on that. I do know that many distributed enterprise applications make use of EJB technology. BC4J supports entity beans (to be compared with entity and view objects). It also knows EJB application modules that behave like session beans. JHeadstart does not support using EJBs, however.
    For further information about the support for EJB technology, I would like to refer you to the online help of JDeveloper.

  • Problem installing Database connectivity toolkit

    My company manufactures in multiple plants around the world.  I have a problem in China and need to debug, and since the code is distributed in exe form, that is a problem.  My approach was to install a 30 day trial license of LV2010 SP1, planning on removing it when the debug is done.  To this point, all is fine.  The problem is that the app requires the Database Connectivity Toolkit.  I downloaded a copy and tried to install.  It says it can't install because LV2010 is not installed.  Is this because of the eval license?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Very likely, but the far better solution is to not burden yourself with the DCT. It is a major complication to a process that is essentially very simple. As an alternative check this thread.

  • Share Database Connection

    Hi,
    Does anyone know if it is possible to share an Oracle database connection between applications?
    I have this scenario:
    (1) Java application connects to the database
    (2) Java application performs some database queries
    (3) Java application calls a Cobol application on the same machine and waits for it to complete
    (4) Cobol application performs some database queries
    (5) Cobol application sends termination indication to the Java Application, then terminates
    (6) Java application closes the database connection
    Is it possible to transfer the connection handle from the Java application to the Cobol application,
    so that Cobol will use that connection and not have to create it's own connection ?
    Is it possible if both applications run on different machines ?
    Thanks

    What, exactly, does "perform it's function in the context achieved by the calling Java app" mean and what is the problem you are trying to solve?
    If you are merely trying to coordinate a distributed transaction that involves multiple client applications, Timur's suggestion would be appropriate. Laurent's [DBMS_XA solution|http://laurentschneider.com/wordpress/2008/08/read-uncommitted.html] might provide more "context" depending upon exactly what you mean by that term. There may be other solutions as well, like Workspace Manager, depending on what you are trying to achieve.

  • Installation problem with NW'04 SR1: database connection failed

    Hi all,
    while installing NW '04 SR1 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 and MS SQL Server 2000 SP4 I ran into an error related to the database connection. While performing the step "Load Java Database content" SAPinst crashes with the message

    Has anybody an idea what could have happened here? Is this maybe a problem connected to the one I recently had

  • Closing the database connection after report in a server application

    I searched these forums and the internet for a definitive answer on asking the Crystal SDK for java to close the jdbc connection after it has generated a report.  We have been using the Crystal Report SDK to generate reports within our JEE application, built upon the Spring framework, for the past two years.  It works well, especially if you prepare views in the database for your reports.
    From what I can tell once you have used ReportClientDocument to create your report you all the close() method to release resources associated with report generation, but this does not close the jdbc database connection.
    Further research states that if you are using the CrystalReportViewer you can call the dispose method to close the database connection.  We are not using JSP nor this class, so that does us little good.
    Finally I found a post that one could call ((AdvancedReportDocument)reportClientDocument.getReportSource()).dispose().  This doesn't drop the connection either.
    Each report actually opens 3 connections according to SQL Server.  Each report will reuse the connections it has open, so for 50 reports, theoretically, we could have up to 150 connections.  We explained to our client those connections  remain inactive, however this is unacceptable to our client as they would like to minimize the number of connections left open to their database.
    If anyone can post any further information on this issue, it is much appreciated.

    Yes, another team member found the issue.  Quite embarrassing really I didn't see it.  I was looking for the answer within Crystal's libraries.  It had nothing to do with Crystal.
    The developer who wrote the helper code for using Crystal first opened a connection to the datasource for the live production database and read that connection information for the report. Next he set that connection information in the report template's PropertyBag, then ran the report. The developer however forgot to close the connection he used to look up the connection info, leaving a memory leak and using up all the connections.
    I'm glad you inquired.  I forgot to post the resolution here.

    Hussein,
    One thing which I noticed now is in the apps Tier the
    tnsnames.ora under $TNS_ADMIN
    shows entry like this:
    PROD=
            (DESCRIPTION=
                    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<appsServerName>)(PORT=1521))
                    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<dbServer>)(PORT=1521))
                (CONNECT_DATA=
                    (SID=PROD)
            )Actually *(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<appsIPaddress>)(PORT=1521))* this line in the tnsnames.ora is not correct. In fact the appsServerName should be replaced with dbServerName
    I deleted the tnsnames.ora and reran autoconfig but it is again recreating the same entry.
    Any clue how this can be fixed?
    Thanks
