DMS Console Exception in JSP Page

Hello. I have a simple jsp page that calls a method in a class file. In the class I have a function, where I get an error when the connection is attempted.
I know that the connection is the problem because the jsp page calls it ( <%=opduser.count()%>) fine when the connection line is commented out. The error is posted below, I have ojdbc14_g, and classes12_dms, classes12_g jar files in my classpath, I have tried different combinations of jars as well.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

  • Exception Handling for many bean objects of a container class in a JSP page

    Hello,
    I have on container bean class. In this container class, there are several others class objects and the getter methods to get these objects out to the JSP pages.
    I have one JSP page which will use different objects in the container class object through the getter methods of the container class.
    My question is how to implement the exception handler for all the objects in the container so that the JSP page can handle all exceptions if occurrs in any object in the container?
    Please give me some suggestions. Thanks
    Tu

    Thanks for your reply.
    Since the container is the accessor class, I have no other super class for this container class, I think I will try the try catch block in the getter methods.

  • Exception occurred processing JSP page

    I'm a Java newbie... I'm trying to write a very simple (I think) .jsp file to test the connectivity to our Oracle DB.
    here's my entire .jsp file...
    <%@ page import="java.io.*"%>
    <%@ page import="java.sql.*"%>
    <%@ page import="javax.sql.*"%>
    <%
    String dname;
    String query = "select DNAME from DEPT";
    Connection conn = null;
    ResultSet rs = null;
    Statement stmt = null;
    try {
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    // Create a connection to the database
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:1521:SID", "username", "password");
    } catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
    // Could not find the database driver
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    // Could not connect to the database
    stmt = conn.createStatement();
    rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
    while ( rs.next() ) {
    dname = rs.getString("dname");
    System.out.println("dname: " + dname);
    %>
    I'm getting the following error...
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: An exception occurred processing JSP page test3.jsp at line 23
    20: // Could not connect to the database
    21: }
    22:
    23: stmt = conn.createStatement();
    24:
    25: rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
    26: while ( rs.next() ) {
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    You need to move all of this:
    stmt = conn.createStatement();
    rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
    while ( rs.next() ) {
    dname = rs.getString("dname");
    System.out.println("dname: " + dname);
    }inside your try/catch. if any of them throw an exception, your not catching it.
    Further you should use a finally block to close your connection.

    Well what does the jsp being invoked do?
    at jrun__*****__***__************ejsp1d._jspService(jrun__******__***__**************2ejsp1d.java, Compiled Code)
    I presume you have obfuscated this with the asterisks? That should identify which jsp the error is occurring on.
    Do you have your own "throwable" which does not extend exception?
    Is there a more complete message/stack trace in the logs?

    I installed j2ee App Server on my Windows 2000, wrote a simple .jsp, moved the code to domains\domain1\docroot, ran the .jsp from the browser and saw the following exception. I could not find the directory common/lib for my Tomcat server. Please instruct.

    No Java compiler was found to compile the generated source for the JSP.
    This can usually be solved by copying manually $JAVA_HOME/lib/tools.jar from the JDK
    to the common/lib directory of the Tomcat server, followed by a Tomcat restart.
    If using an alternate Java compiler, please check its installation and access path.

    ****************************************************************************************************************

    This is a known issue.
    The error message about the missing Java compiler is very misleading, and
    is being caused by a bug in the way compilation error messages are
    being propagated.
    Following is a detailed explanation of the behaviour you are seeing:
    The misleading error message is printed only in the case where a javac
    compilation error line number cannot be mapped back to a line number
    in the JSP source code.
    The internal representation of a JSP element ("JSP node") in the JSP compiler
    contains the following info:
    - The begin line number of the JSP element in the JSP page
    - The begin and end line numbers ("range") of the Java code that was
    generated for the JSP element
    When attempting to map a javac error line number back to the JSP
    source line, we determine the range into which the javac error line
    number falls, and retrieve the JSP source number of the JSP element
    associated with that range.
    However, in some cases, it is impossible to trace a javac error line
    number back to the JSP element that caused the error. For example,
    consider the following scriptlet:
    <%
    String query = request.getParameter("query");
    if(query != null) {
    out.println(query);
    } else {
    out.println("(null)");
    // } // <-- !Missing brace syntax error
    %>
    Since the JSP compiler wraps the generated code into a
    try-catch-finally block, the above syntax error in the scriptlet
    causes havoc with that try-catch-finally block, and results in 3 javac
    errors:
    <file>jsp.java:<line1>: 'catch' without 'try'
    } catch (Throwable t) {
    ^
    <file>jsp.java:<line2>: 'try' without 'catch' or 'finally'
    try {
    ^
    <file>jsp.java:<line3>: '}' expected
    Notice that all of the above javac error numbers are outside the range
    of the java line numbers corresponding to the scriptlet that caused the
    error, and therefore cannot be mapped back to any line numbers in the
    JSP page source.
    AS 8.0 PE does not handle this case correctly, and prints out the
    misleading error message (though the real error message can be found
    in the server log).
    Notice that this problem is going to be fixed in AS 8.1, so that if a
    javac error line number cannot be mapped back to a JSP page line
    number, the javac error is still returned to the client.
    As far as your particular JSP page is concerned, I don't see anything
    wrong with it, and it compiles just fine for me.
    Do you still have any problems with it?

    I have put his lines in the faces-config.xml and now it works:

    I don't understand, that I define the next JSP page in the bean java file, which must be shown, but I must define this in the faces-config.xml as well.
    for example:
         public String editMyData() {
              myDataItem = (MyData)getMyDataTable().getRowData();
              return "editmydata";
    is it right or Do I make a mistake somewhere?

  • Error while connecting to the database from a JSP Page

    Hi,
    I am using a simple JSP page which is based on the sample JSP pages from OTN.
    When I try to connect to my database using the following code:
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    OracleDataSource ds = (OracleDataSource)ic.lookup("jdbc/OTN9iDS");
    m_connection = ds.getConnection();
    I get the following error:
    Naming exception Error while connecting to the database : javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: jdbc/OTN9iDS not found in JDBCTest-JDBCTestProject-webapp
    Does anybody know wht this is happening?
    Any help would be appreciated
    FRank

    Hi Frank,
    Are you using standalone OC4J or 9iAS ? If you are using standalone OC4J then you need to add a proper data source entry in %OC4J_HOME%j2ee\home\config\data-sources.xml file.
    If you are using 9iAS the you can log in to the Enterprise Manager console and add the data source entry by using wizard provided by 9iAS.
    Ensure the case of the JNDI lookup string, since, it is case sensitive.
    Hope this helps.

  • OC4J 9.0.3 does not find JSP pages

    I had a working BC4J JSP application supporting my team's project management documents in JDev RC2 which I had successfully deployed into a standalone OC4J 9.0.3 on my Win2K workstation. Because the application failed with a jbo arrayoutofbounds exception when trying to bring up a 4K varchar2 field, I installed the newer OC4J 9.0.3 release, but tried to get JDev RC2 to deploy. Deployment seemed successful, but the JSP's were not recognized. (PS: The application still works with JDev's embedded OC4J engines).
    The JSP's are included in the deployed War file, but I do not see any classes compiled from the JSPs in the OC4J 9.0.3 directories. OC4J does bring up the static HTML pages.
    Seeing that JDev embeds OC4J 9.0.2, I downloaded the OC4J 9.0.2.1 production standalone version and again deployed -- the results were disappointingly the same, though, during the course of trying alternatives I received bc4j.xcfg not on path error.
    Grabbing at straws, I moved the application to the JDev 9.0.2 production version and tried to deploy to both the OC4J versions -- with the same results.
    I then created another workspace, with a single table BC4J component project, a BC4J JSP project, letting JDev generate the BrowseEdit.jsp components, added the default static html page object. Ran under embedded OC4J, but JSP page access failed, while access to the static HTML page worked.
    Because JDev deployments had never failed me before, I am at a complete loss. Too much of a black box!
    My desperation reminds me of a section from a Shakespeare sonnet -- appropriate here:
    "My thoughts and my discourse as madmen's are,
    at random from the true,
    vainly expressed,
    for I have sworn thee fair,
    and thought thee bright,
    who art as black as hell,
    and as dark as night."
    Can anyone help bring the old girl back?

    I meant to say application.xml file. Compare your settings to:
    <?xml version="1.0" standalone='yes'?>
