Exception occurred processing JSP page

I'm a Java newbie... I'm trying to write a very simple (I think) .jsp file to test the connectivity to our Oracle DB.
here's my entire .jsp file...
<%@ page import="java.io.*"%>
<%@ page import="java.sql.*"%>
<%@ page import="javax.sql.*"%>
<%
String dname;
String query = "select DNAME from DEPT";
Connection conn = null;
ResultSet rs = null;
Statement stmt = null;
try {
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
// Create a connection to the database
conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:1521:SID", "username", "password");
} catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
// Could not find the database driver
} catch (SQLException e) {
// Could not connect to the database
stmt = conn.createStatement();
rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
while ( rs.next() ) {
dname = rs.getString("dname");
System.out.println("dname: " + dname);
%>
I'm getting the following error...
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: An exception occurred processing JSP page test3.jsp at line 23
20: // Could not connect to the database
21: }
22:
23: stmt = conn.createStatement();
24:
25: rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
26: while ( rs.next() ) {
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

You need to move all of this:
stmt = conn.createStatement();
rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
while ( rs.next() ) {
dname = rs.getString("dname");
System.out.println("dname: " + dname);
}inside your try/catch. if any of them throw an exception, your not catching it.
Further you should use a finally block to close your connection.

  • Processing jsp page

    Hi, all
    I need my servlet process jsp page content in a string variable. For example read jsp page content from database or a file server, then use the jsp engine to process the jsp content and get the HTML output , then send the result to client.
    How can do this?
    Thanks.

  • Java.lang.IllegalStateException occurs in jsp page

    Hi,
    I'm having some trouble with my error page, and was wondering if anyone else has run into the problem and has a workaround?
    I have an error page set up to deal with uncaught exceptions,and it seems to work fine for most uncaught JPS exceptions.Except: When the exception is thrown after a lot of HTML
    (dozens of lines of HTML), the servlet engine will not forward to the error page, but complains
    java.lang.IllegalStateException
    here is the error log file:

    Hello,
    The error tells you the line that the error is happening on, line 777 in the java file (not the jsp) you can look at that code and try to find the corresponding jsp lines. If you are using the sendRedirect() method, it may be a direct cause. I think since you are:
    Sending a page info, then that page is sending to another page ...
    You are getting an Illegal state because one method is trying to close out beforethe previous finished executing. Try to just switch thre sendRedirect with the <jsp:forward ... > statement. It may not be exact to what you need right now, but you may at least get the errors to start to go away.

    Hi,
    I don't have CREATION_DATE column in my table.
    But while compiling the EO its showsing error as given below,
    Error(14,8): class uttara.oracle.apps.uttaraimc.schema.server.LpgConnEOImpl should be declared abstract; it does not define method setCreationDate(oracle.jbo.domain.Number) in class oracle.apps.fnd.framework.server.OAEntityImpl
    So I have created the new attribute as CREATION_DATE.

    org.apache.jsp.tablasUF_jsp._jspService(tablasUF_jsp.java:68)Do you understand anyway when a NullPointerException would be thrown? Those kind of RuntimeExceptions are basic Java knowledge.
    If an object is null while you want to access it, then a NPE would be thrown. Check the line of the cause which objects could be null and fix it accordingly.

  • Problem connecting oracle database to jsp pages using Apache Tomcat server 8.0

    Can't fix a problem 'till an actual problem is identified.
    >> ODBC Driver Manager ... Data source name not found
    That appears to be ODBC drivers looking for a DSN (Data Set Name). If it wants a DSN, the DSN has to be specified in the code, and the DSN has to be configured in the windows host ODBC applet. So that is at least two squirrels to get in the right tree before moving forward. A ...host:...[port:]SID|service name are some of the bits needed in a jdbc connect string, and that is in no way related to DSNs. A Whole Different Animal. If it wants a DSN that might be what needs to go in the URL bit.
    And ODBC setups can be confusing, especially if an x64 OS is in the mix- if that is the case there are two different ODBC configuration applets, one for x64 the other for x86, and if one gets as far as talking to an actual database it might toss an architecture error. Only way to fix that "problem" is *delete* the ODBC DSN and then run the correct (maybe the x86) ODBC config utility, and set up the DSN. Again.

  • Euro() character in JSP -page

    I'have a JSP-page where is html-textbox for adding salary wish for the job and the problem is that I can't character from request!
    I have to pages. In first one i have form where the text box is and a second one for saving the info to a bean.
    I have tried to use this tag in JSP pages :
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=windows-1252" %>
    and after this code:
    String salaryWish = request.getParameter("salaryWish");
    System.out.println("Salary wish(): " + salaryWish);
    String euro = "";
    System.out.println("euro: " + euro);
    makes this kind of prints to Tomcat 3.2 window
    Salary wish(): 1233 ?
    euro:
    and if I print the same to textfile those characters are actually characters as they should be. But now the euro mark that I filled to salaryWish textbox and got from request is changed to ?.
    Does anyone know how to make those encodings work also in html-textboxes?

    Can't get working with that UTF-8 conversion! Causes compiler exception while loading JSP page.
    Instead I tried this and it seems to work
    String salaryWish = request.getParameter("salaryWish");
    try
    salaryWish = new String(salaryWish.getBytes("ISO-8859-1"),"windows-1252");
    catch (Exception e){ }
    Anyway,
    thanks robert!

  • Carrying values across jsp pages

    hi there!
    i got a quick question...
    ive got a login page where users enter their email address and a password and upon pressing the submit button the login page calls the page processlogin.jsp which verifies this email addres and password with those values stored in the database.
    a successful login then displays another page where users submit other details. this form then calls another process jsp page which stores this new information in another table in the database.
    my question is how do i 'pass' through that initial email address the user enters on the login page through to this latter page....and inevitably...on to other pages too.
    the reason i need to do this is cos the table which i am storing these new details has email address as its foreign key and i need to store the same value.
    many thanks! :o)

    the simplest thing to do is create a bean to hold on to values a user enters and simply have access to them using the <%= bean.getEMAIL() %> or something like that. For multiple form pages, I like using <input type=hidden ...> to store values without having to create object to store them.
    But I think in your case, since you have a processing page for the form before it goes on then the bean is the best solution.
    Good luck

    </HTML>
    Please advise. Thanks!!

    Yes, you can instantiate and reference any class visible to the Java runtime from within a JSP just as you can in an "ordinary" Java class. Behind the scenes, a JSP is converted into Java source code for a servlet class, and then compiled into the .class file. When you insert code into JSPs using either taglibs or code delimiters (<% %>, <%= %>), the JSP/servlet "engine" inserts this code into the servlet source code verbatim, and all non-Java text from the JSP is inserted into the source code inside of JspWriter.write(xxx) statements.
    If you'd like to see the source code that your JSP is converted into, run your JSP in Tomcat and look in the "work" folder within the Tomcat folder after you access it the first time. Experiment around with the JSP and see how code within the <% %> and <%= %> blocks is inserted into the .java file.

  • How to process the HTMLs or JSP pages?

    Hi all. my program need to process the HTML or JSP pages. But they are different from the XML. When I use SAXParser or something like that to process the HTML, Exception will always occur. Especially for processing the element "<% .... %>". So can anyone teach me the way to processing the HTML or JSP pages?

    These are from a Page Layout document. If you are using Word Processing, the button is called Sections instead of Pages but has the same icon.

    Backing up a moment, is there a particular reason that you're using the JDBC-ODBC bridge rather than using the Oracle JDBC driver?
    Have you taken a look at the JSP sample code available on OTN? I would start by making sure you can run that.

  • Invoking BPEL Process from a JSP Page 500 Internal Server Error

    Hi,
    I try to invoke a BPEL Process from a JSP Page and receive the following error. I just pasted the example from the Oracle PM Developer's Guide tutorial. Previously I deployed the CreditRatingService BPEL Process.
    Can anyone help me, please?
    D.
    Here is a sequence from my JSP / and the error I get:
    String ssn = request.getParameter("ssn");
    if(ssn == null)
    ssn = "123-12-1234";
    String xml = "<ssn xmlns=\"http://services.otn.com\">"

    Here is the solution:
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.setProperty("orabpel.platform", "oc4j_10g");
    props.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial",
    "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
    props.setProperty("java.naming.provider.url", "ormi://localhost/orabpel");
    props.setProperty("java.naming.security.principal", "oc4jadmin");
    props.setProperty("java.naming.security.credentials", "welcome1");
    and several jars have to be added to the project:
    Orabpel.jar , Orabpel-common.jar, oc4j*.jar,
    %ANT_HOME%\lib\ant.jar;
    %ANT_HOME%\lib\xercesImpl.jar;
    %ANT_HOME%\lib\xml-apis.jar;
    %AXIS_HOME%\lib\axis.jar;
    %AXIS_HOME%\lib\axis-ant.jar;
    %AXIS_HOME%\lib\commons-discovery.jar;
    %AXIS_HOME%\lib\commons-logging.jar;
    %AXIS_HOME%\lib\jaxrpc.jar;
    %AXIS_HOME%\lib\log4j-1.2.8.jar;
    %AXIS_HOME%\lib\saaj.jar;
    %AXIS_HOME%\lib\wsdl4j.jar;
