Exception occurred processing JSP page

Question

I'm a Java newbie... I'm trying to write a very simple (I think) .jsp file to test the connectivity to our Oracle DB.
here's my entire .jsp file...

String query = "select DNAME from DEPT";
Connection conn = null;
ResultSet rs = null;

I'm getting the following error...
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: An exception occurred processing JSP page test3.jsp at line 23

Any help would be appreciated.

You need to move all of this:
stmt = conn.createStatement();
rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
while ( rs.next() ) {
dname = rs.getString("dname");
System.out.println("dname: " + dname);
}inside your try/catch. if any of them throw an exception, your not catching it.
Further you should use a finally block to close your connection.
