DNS fails to resolve w/ 10.6.8

I have a home network consisting of 2 iMacs and 1 Macbook Pro, all running on 5 GHz N-band through an Asus RT-N56U dual-band router. The Macbook Pro and one of the iMacs are fine, however starting several months ago the third iMac began having a problem where it fails to resolve domain names, as many as 3 times a day. All 3 computers have identical network preferences, each with their own static LAN IP.
I looked through the Console logs for the problem iMac and found the same entries repeating, which appear to show mdnsResponder crashing:

I did some Googling on the issue and came up with results similar to my problem, dating back as far as OS X 10.6.5, perhaps even earlier. Several people suggested killing/restarting mdnsResponder as a temporary fix using the following:
sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
This appeared initially to be successful, however it turns out the fix is just that – temporary. DNS still breaks every day, leaving my iMac able to send and receive email, but unable to browse the Internet.

Hi,
Regarding search domains - those are not directly responsible for your internet conectivity.
You can read what they are here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4845
regarding the mdnsResponder
You can try dragging this file to the desktop & rebooting.
Machintosh HD/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
This should clear the issue.
Please let me know how it goes.

SCOM needs the name when it generates the certificate for the SSL connection. You can work around this by adding the hostname of the Linux computer to your hosts file with the IP address on the SCOM server.
    - On the Linux server run the 'hostname' cmd. You will use this in the hosts file on the SCOM server.
    - On the SCOM server edit the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts file and add the following:
    <IP Address of Linux server> <hostname or Linux server>
Run the Discovery Wizard again and it should work. Note that you also need to make sure port 1270 is open on the Linux server.

  • Java application fails to resolve name

    Hi Experts,
I have a problem with a Java based application on Solaris 10. The application works fine and suddenly fails to resolve names (NS lookup order is files then dns) and hence disconnects users. We have to then touch the /etc/hosts so it updates the time stamp and the application starts working OK.
    I don't have a clue of what's going on...Any one ?
Any help will be very much appreciated...

I have you got a recent patch level on your Solaris 10 system. You shouldn't have to update /etc/hosts to get it to reread the file.

  • DNS doesn't resolve anymore under latest update.

I am having this new problem. I have about 10 network interfaces. en0 ..... en10,en11. This is from working different locations with different Thunderbolt, USB 3.0 gigabit adapters. Each time I use a new adapter, a new network interface is created.
Now my DNS no longer resolves. I manually set my IP and DNS to 8.8.8.8. 8.8.4.4 (Google's DNS) which works in the past.
I can't ping anything. I can't get on the public internet.
I've deleted all the network interfaces in the GUI and in the terminal.
    E.G. can't ping yahoo.com, google.com or apple.com
    When I do nslookup like
    bash-3.2# nslookup apple.com 8.8.8.8
    Server:                    8.8.8.8
    Address:          8.8.8.8#53
    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name:          apple.com
    Address: 17.149.160.49
    Name:          apple.com
    Address: 17.178.96.59
    Name:          apple.com
    Address: 17.172.224.47
It resolves. But when I ping it, I get
    bash-3.2# ping apple.com
ping: cannot resolve apple.com: Unknown host
    Here is my /etc/resolv.conf
    # Mac OS X Notice
    # This file is not used by the host name and address resolution
    # or the DNS query routing mechanisms used by most processes on
    # this Mac OS X system.
    # This file is automatically generated.
    nameserver 8.8.8.8
    nameserver 8.8.4.4
I can ping anything by IP address. I just access anything by DNS. I can access by IP.
I zapped my PRAM. I did the old trick of deleting all my network interfaces in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist.
I removed my byhost file. rebooted.
Went into the GUI and deleted/disabled all the network interfaces.

I create another user, logged in as that user and no-go.
I have 14 other machines on the network, I can set IPs manually or DHCP and they all work.
My Macbook Retina no longer works. I don't want to do a reinstall.
    my /etc/hosts file is clean
    127.0.0.1       localhost
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost

I've disabled IPV6 (set it to local link only).

    IP is:
192.168.0.154 (or whatever DHCP or manual IP I set in 192.168.0.X)
    Router: 192.168.0.1
    Netmask: 255.255.255.0
    DNS: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
I can ping the router, access every IP on my network. I can access public FTP servers by their IP. My mail server by IP.
Machines on the network can access my machine by IP.
    The DNS can't resolve internally.
Crash.log shows mDNSResponder crashing every second. Seems it may be corrupt.
I've killed it, dscachecutil --flush(whatever the command was),
I killed it -9, -HUP, etc.
I've copied the plist and launcdaemons from another working macbook.
Interestingly, Chrome works. In the crash logs, when chrome sees the mDNSresponder failing, it uses something else and internally routes the DNS to a different proxy.
I can surf the web with Chrome. Chrome doesn't use mDNSResponder in the event of a failure. That is how I posted my question.
Nothing else works. Firefox, Safari, iTunes, AppStore, FTP clients, Command line terminal.
Is there a way to re-install mDNSResponder.

thanks in advance.looks like listener is not running on the database server you are trying to connect to *(ORA-12541TNS- no listener)*. even though you have configured both tnsnames and lisnterner.ora files, you have to start listener for clients to make connections to db. hope this helps. set your oracle home and then type as below. these commands are very simple and I don't think I need to explain them.
    cmd> lsnrctl status
    cmd> lsnrctl start
    cmd> lsnrctl stop

    Hi,
Have you defined the JCO destinations in Web Dynpro Content Admin.
If you havent, look at these link and configure the JCO Destinations required for ESS.

I have installed the ESS/MSS business package, and configured all JCO connections. testing the JCO connections is successful. I can connect to the SLD from the WebDynpro administrator.

    Hello,
when I installed ESS/MSS there were two JCO Connections:
    SAP_R3_HumanResources_Metadata
    SAP_R3_HumanResources_MetaData
Pay attention to the right spelling! I mean the second one is the right one.

    Hi Experts,
I am using NWDS 7.1 ehp1 version and  i developed a sample application here to retreive the data from r/3.
when i try to execute the application it's giving the following error..
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: Failed to resolve JCO destination name 'WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST' in the SLD. No such JCO destination is defined in the SLD.
can anybody help me to solve this issue..
    thanks,
    viswa

    Hi,
    First test your destination.
    'WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST'
Login as an Administrator, then click on "Check SLD", Check if if in your System Landscape Directory Both the ABAP technical system and a Web AS JAVA. are created or not????
If not create the two systems.
If they are already created then,
click on "Maintain JCo Destinations" and there you can see all the applications and their corrosponding metadatas. If JCo is already created then status comes in green color or else status comes in red color.
Check if these JCos are created or not....
If they are not created then create the JCo destinations.
If they are already created then Ping them....
But as per your error, it seems like you haven't maintained JCo destinations.

Note: the above hints are only a guess. They are automatically derived from the exception that occurred and therefore can't be guaranteed to address the original problem in all cases.
    Please help me resolving it.
    Thanks,

    Hello Hussain,
It looks like your Basis team has added another JCO destination to your Landscape....just check with them and create the jco destination on the portal...to fix it.
Let me know if it helps.

    Any suggestion what is problem?

    Hi Wooi,
Please create JCO destination 'SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics_MetaData' and 'SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics_MetaDataFIN' for Metadata. First check SLD working fine or not. if the SLD is fine then update SLD data supplier in the visual administrator.
As you metioned the JCO are grayed out. then you need to update host and service file in server location. the do SLD and SLD data supplier test.
Once JCO connection test will successful then your issue will resolved.
    Hope it will helps

  • Failed to resolve JCO destination name 'WD_FLIGHTLIST_RFC_METADATA_DEST' i

    Dear all,
When i was running a Wec dynpro Application created with The abap Function Modul BAPI_FLIGHT_GETLIST, a error          "com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: Failed to resolve JCO destination name 'WD_FLIGHTLIST_RFC_METADATA_DEST' in the SLD. No such JCO destination is defined in the SLD. "
happened. Can someone tell me how to sole this error? Thanks .
    Rgds,
    Sweet.

    Hi,
when you are creating Adaptive RFC Model .
in the 2nd step it will ask for 2 things
1.Define the logical system name for model instances
2.Define the logical system name for RFC Metadata.
what ever the names you give here you have to create JCO destinations for that.
    Logon to portal.
    navigate to content Administartion---->webdynpro
there you have a button "Maintain JCO Destinations".
    click on that
In the table you will find WD_FLIGHTLIST_RFC_METADATA_DEST
with status with an icon in red color.
That is indicating that you are JCO destination is not created.
click on create button and follow the below link from page no 25-27

  • Failed to resolve JCO destination name

I am using RFC model to post form data to backend. This is the error I got when I tried to run the application.
<i>Failed to resolve JCO destination name 'MI2_APPLICATIONDATA' in the SLD. No such JCO destination is defined in the SLD</i>
I have JCO destination configured in my SLD. I can see them in green when I go to Deployed Content --> System Defined Content. I was able to successfully test and ping them.
One thing I observed is my application does not show up in the Deployed Content --> Local. Other earlier applications which I deployed before are showing up, but not the current one. I restarted J2EE server, rebuilt, redeployed. No luck !!

Thats exactly the problem. I figured it out myself and thought of editing this thread. But you have replied by then. Thanks for the quick reply and awarded you the points you deserve.

  • Failed to resolve JCO destination name 'WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST' in the SLD

    Hi!!!
I am facing a problem, when I run any application, I get the following error,
*com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: Failed to resolve JCO destination name 'WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST' in the SLD. No such JCO destination is defined in the SLD. *
Can any one please give some suggestion, on how to overcome this problem.
    Cheers!!!
    Umang

    Hi Umang,
It seems like you have not activated or Defined your JCO (Java Connectors) in the System Landscape Directory(SLD). Please Login to your SLD and check if you can find the JCO ('WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST'). If you manage to find the Specified JCO, then you need to activate the
    Java Connector.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any more issues. Dont forget to close the thread if it is answered.
    Best Wishes,
    PG.
