Do I need to change OCI layer to utilize Oracle RAC failover Feature?

Dear Oracle Experts,
From the Oracle documents, the RAC is a great feature providing the scalability and high availablility. I thought the failover features should be transparent to users.
However, from this book:

I am confused if RAC failover feature have to depend on OCI user application coding?
I have an application developed over Oracle 8.1.6, if I buy Oracle9i to use RAC failover feature, should I modify my application at OCI layer to make it work? Can I switch the oracle instance when the original one fails only by RAC setup instead of changing OCI code?

As answered by Sumit u need not alter ur application for shifting it to RAC.But there are few things which will determine the perfoemance of your application on RAC and depend on the type of application u use .Application partioning,data partitioning,index partitioning ... look for these topics . This may help.
The other thing u mentioned abt. Oracle Libraries,DB name,SID .. . Now when u'll have RAC there will be more than 1 Node I believe. So each Node will have its SID,Oracle Binaries but DB name will be same.

Handling Oracle RAC Failover at the application layer

Hi All,
I am currently researching best practices for handling oracle RAC failover at the application layer since transactional statements (INSERT,UPDATE and DELETE) are not handled transparently. So I have few questions for the community:
1. In case of a node failure would I need to roll back all of transactional statements that are part of the transaction or would I have to re-execute the one that failed only?
2. Does things change with XA 2 phase commit transactions?
Any input and/or architecture suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi,
the Oracle RAC stack works very vell on its own, without the need of a third party clusterware. It will be aware of failures on the nodes.
Database will be using ASM or RAW or NFS devices for Shared storage.
Oracle Clusterware can also be configured to monitor your applications and to a failover to other nodes.
However if you need a shared filesystem for your own applications, then you will have to use QFS or similar (which again than requires Sun Cluster).

Need clarification for firmware & MPIO version for Oracle RAC

Dear All,
We have two-node Oracle RAC configuration 10gR2, Windos 2033 R2, 64-Bit OS using ASM and Oracle 11gR1 clusterware on HP Blades. The SAN storage is from IBM. We want to upgrade the firmware and MPIO version as per vendor recommendation.
Is there any requirement for Oracle RAC to have specific version of firmware and MPIO? Is there any matrix available for this? Or is it like both nodes should be able to see same SAN storage (LUN) irrespective of version used?

Please note that Oracle RAC doesnt have requirement any sepcific firm ware. If you upgrade the firmware, it should not break any existing config, so pls check with IBM.
Also if you are doing any specific firmware upgrade then IBM should provide the supported version list.

Is it possible to change the location of the Oracle logo

I need to change the location of the Oracle logo in home page from left to right side. We tried to edit in common .css and failed. Please help.

The logo is in it's own table cell - so css will not work (can't change the order of table columns using css). You could possibly replace the logo image on the server with a single white pixel (create a custom skin if you want), then add a new background image to the table (class is HeaderTopBar) aligned right and no repeat using CSS. You would need to pad out that right side somehow to make it align (the last cell has class HeaderPageStatus and contains the status image).

I need to change some code within the GET_QUERY_RESULT Method, which is found:
BSP->Z_CRM_IC
View->AuiSearch
Controller class ZL_CRM_IC_AuiSearch_impl
Method do_handle_event
Method eh_onsearch
Method get_query_result
At present the method get_query_result belongs to class CL_CRM_AUI_QUERY_SERVICE.
I can create a subclass from this and call it ZL_CRM_AUI_QUERY_SERVIC, then redefine the method get_query_class, and then make the appropriate changes. But that may be all uneccessary. What I don't know is how to ensure this modified code can be called.
I have already made changes for method DO_INIT_CONTEXT, hence the reason the controller class ZL_CRM_IC_AUISEARCH_IMPL is identified. But this was simple because the view linked directly to this whereas you can see the code I need to change is further down in process chain.
I know that method get_query_result calls a number of BADI's, but these BADI's are too low for the information that I need and therfore really need to make my code changes in the get_query_result method.
I have been reading as much as I can on this subject, but without much success and therefore really count on experienced developers like yourselves to steer me in the right direction, or give advice.

I will not suggest to put your Enhancements into CL_CRM_AUI_QUERY_SERVICE.
Rather in Component BT -> Class CL_CRM_BTIL . AUi Query Service will Internally call the BOL Component ( get query result )
In your Framework Profile Config , you specify the Component Set . Ex: ALL
Component set have a List of Component Ex BP , BT .
SPRO-> CRM -> CRM Cross Application Components -> Generic Interaction layer -> Basic Settings
Now you can have your Custom , Component Set ( Ex : ZALL ) and Component ( ( Ex ; ZBT , Totally advisable for CIC Development Framework )
Have BT Copied into ZBT and Specify ZL_CRM_BTIL ( Inherited from CL_CRM_BTIL )
And in your Custom Component Set , Specify ZBT instead of BT .
Now Specify your Custom Component Set in your Framework Profile .
Now you got the Enhancement Spot in ZL_CRM_BTIL->GET_QUERY_RESULT

Need to change color of template

I directed a client to a template site and they picked a template that was a PSD (attached) and I turned it into a working website. Now they tell me they want it to be blue instead of the green that it is. I am not sure where to start. I guess I need go to each layer and change the color to a variation of blue. Is there a quick way to do this? I am not even sure how to change colors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You do not need to do this for each layer. Just the ones with the color elements of the webpage,and only those that are visible. (eyeball on in layers panel)
When you select the layer,then you go to the Image menu,Adjustments,and select Variations. You can interactively experiment until you find what's best.
My layer thumbnails are large so I can see at a glance what element I'm looking at. Use the Layers Panel menu to get to Panel Options and select Large Thumbnails.
Of course back up that template before loading into PS in case you need to do it over.
That should get you started.

Here are the requirements for US passport. Scroll down for the passport tool to make the picture utilizing one on your disk.

If you decide to make it in Elements and print it, you should have a resolution of 240-300 px/in for a good output. I suggest that you print the 2 photos on good quality paper, probably both on 4x6 stock, and trim with scissors to specification.
Open your picture and go to Image>resize>picture size, and check the resolution. If it is less than 240 px/in, enter 240 in the field and see if the dimensions remain adequate. If not, you may have to resize.
Use one of the selection tool, e.g. lasso tool, or selection brush tool, to select head and shoulders
Go to Edit>copy to put the selection on the clipboard
Open a new, blank file (File>new>blank file) 2.25 x2.25", resolution the same value as your picture, background white
Go to Edit>paste. The picture will be on its own layer
Access the move tool to position it, and to resize with the corner handles of the bounding box, if necessary

A layer disappears whenever I change another layer

Hello wise Photoshop helpers!
One of my layers continues to disappear whenever I change another layer in my file, no matter what I do to the other layers.
If I try to erase something on another layer the one disappears.
I also cannot locate where this illusive layer is because it never goes away when I hit the Eye to make my layers disappear or appear. It only disappears when I change something on the doc
(i.e. type, paint, order of layers, etc.)
When I save and restart, the layer is back but if I try to continue editing, it goes away again.
I need to get this done but it's very difficult without all of may layers being visible so I feel as if I'm working in the dark. :/ Please help!

I have three adjustment layers that have a little chain next to them on the layers panel that i assume would mean they are linked. To what though, i am not quite sure.
When I say "disapear" I mean it disapears from view on the actual image. I cannot find where this layer is located on the layers panel. When I make all my layers not visible with the visibility being turned off, It still remains, and there are no layers visible on the layers panel but I can see it on the image itself.
Then if I edit the doc in anyway other than visibility, then the layer disapears from view on the actual image.
Also, once I save and restart Photoshop, it always comes back. I could continue working without the layer but then I will have to continue to restart photoshop to see how it looks all together with the disapearing layer. lol

The address is being used as a spoofed address by spammers and I am getting non-delivery notices from the intended receipients' mail servers. Not the end of the world, but it's a PITA.
Normally, I'd just dump the address and create a new one, but this is the main address attached to my account, which I cannot just change.
Advice and/or help (FROM A MOD ONLY) would be appreciated. I've already tried the Contact Us from BT and the Online Chat thing, but both times got idiots from India who had no idea what I was talking about.

On apple website, seraching on support, the article HT1918 explains.
Log into your apple ID and edit your personal information, where email can be changed as well. All applications as itunes stores, apple store and icloud use this same apple ID, so be aware of this.

Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.
When you sync to another it will delete the current content.
Make sure you have copied everything from your old computer to your new one first.
