Do I need to insert meta tags on domain if it redirects to web.mac page?

Hi,
I've set up a domain (http://www.blossomsolutions.ca) with Internic.ca in Canada and filled out a very easy form to redirect to http://web.mac.com/blossomsolutions. Through this excellent forum I learned how to insert meta tags into all my pages on the web.mac site using text edit successfully.
Now, I'm wondering, will search engines find me if I have "no code" or meta tags at www.blossomsolutions.ca? Internic is only "redirecting" my URL not hosting it. It costs more money if they "host" my domain and I wouldn't have a clue how to set up an index.html page anyway for this domain. Even if I got someone to do this can you redirect an index.html page from blossomsolutions.ca to a web.mac.com page? i.e. does the domain code need to be empty in order for it to redirect?
Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.
Dazed and confused,
Kathleen

Hello Kathleen,
Welcome to the forum. You're site looks very clean and elegant.
The domain name you purchased (http://www.blossomsolutions.ca/) is serving as a redirecting page to your iWeb generated web page. The answer to whether or not search engines will find you is both yes and no. Search engines use programs called "spiders" that find pages through links and trace out web pages.
Given some time, sites like Google and MSN will likely find you website (and if you put meta tags in it will display that info in the search engine). But if you are like most iWeb users (myself included) you are impatient for your site to be picked up in search engines. Which is fine, since several search engines provide the means for you to submit your URL. Read this post for more information. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3905977&#3905977
Looks like you may have already submitted your .mac page.
Another handy tip for looking up what information a search engine posses on your site is to type "site:" followed by the web address you wish to look up into a search engine. If the search engine has any of the pages to your site it will display them with the meta data they posses. Your site info can be found here. http://www.google.com/search?q=site:http://web.mac.com/blossomsolutions
I checked your .ca address and google didn't come up with anything.
Internic.ca should provide you with the means to apply a little bit of a description to your web address. Apart from that, you can't really add any meta data to the domain name.
Unfortunately even when you get both web addresses picked up by search engines it won't associate them together. They may come up near each other in searches. But the search engine will see them as entirely different sites.
You could host your site at the domain name if you chose to. The process of publishing is one click like to .mac. But you "Publish to a Folder" and then upload the complete page to the domain name. Its more difficult and cost more (if you chose to retain your .mac account) but it would give you better search engine rankings for your name.

It isn't really worth it have them host your domain name only to put an index.html that redirects to your .mac. Thats basically what the domain forwarding is doing (minus a little bit of info).
My advice is to keep things how you have them. But, just make sure you get the domain submitted to search engines.
Hope this wasn't to long or confusing.
Kind Regards,

  • Do I need to add meta tag info to all pages if I'm creating a desktop, tablet and phone site?

    Hi all,
    I'm creating a website for a client and have built a desktop, tablet and mobile site.
    What I'm wanting to know is can I add meta tags to only the desktop pages or does it need them on the tablet and mobile sites as well? Does this include images as well since the same images are repeated on all three site?
    Lastly I have to add Google Analytics to the <head> section, is this only done on the home page of the desktop site or does this need to be added to every page (including tablet and mobile)?
    Would be grateful for any info or links.
    Thanks
    Krishna

    Hi guvieira,
    I found the answer to this issue.
    For the meta tags, if you create meta tags for the desktop pages, you can copy and paste that information to the tablet and mobile sites.
    For the Google Analytics you can copy the tracking html text to the 'HTML for <head>' in the Metadata window (Page - Page Properties) on your masters page (this will flow onto the rest of the pages).
    Hope this helps.

  • Added editable regions in order to insert meta tags, but get code error. What did I do wrong?

    Hi,
    Made a website based on a template, and as so many people, was afterwards struggling with optimizing my titles, descriptions and keywords for SEO. These were/are locked in the head section of the template. I found lots of useful information on the forum to unlock this section, but apparently I am doing something wrong and I can't figure out what. The code error I get is that there is a syntaxis error in the template comment. Also I do see that the color of the code is maybe not the way it should be.
    This is the code I pasted in:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" >
    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name=”basisontwerp” -->
    <title>untitled document</title>
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="head" -->
    <meta name=”keywords” content=”keywords go here” >
    <meta name=”description” content=”description goes here” >
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
    <link rel="icon" type="rel/icon" href="images/neroli_logo_mini.png" />
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="images/neroli_logo_mini.png" />
    <style type="text/css">
    After that there is a whole bunch of stuff regarding two.Col.Elst.Lt.Hdr and style sheets etc. but there is a closing </head> tag just before my header and side bar section.
    Does anybody know what is wrong with my code? I just don't see it ...
    Thanks so much!!!

    margin: 0; /* het is een goede gewoonte om de instellingen voor margin (marge) en padding (opvulling) van het element body op nul in te stellen en daarmee op de standaardinstellingen van de verschillende browsers */
    padding: 0;
    text-align: center; /* hiermee centreert u de container (het hoofdobject) in IE 5*-browsers Vervolgens wordt de tekst ingesteld op de standaardinstelling van links uitlijnen in de kiezer #container */
    color: #000000;
    /* Tips voor Elastic-lay-outs
    1. Aangezien de algehele grootte van de elastic-lay-outs is gebaseerd op de standaard lettertypegrootte van de gebruiker, hebben deze lay-outs een grotere mate van onvoorspelbaarheid. Bij een juist gebruik zijn ze echter wel toegankelijker voor diegenen die een groter lettertype behoeven omdat de lengte van de regel proportioneel blijft.
    2. De grootte van de div-elementen in deze lay-out is gebaseerd op een lettertypegrootte van 100% in het element body. Als u de tekstgrootte algeheel reduceert door middel van font-size: 80% voor het element body of voor #container, dient u niet te vergeten dat de complete lay-out proportioneel kleiner zal worden. Wellicht wilt u de breedtes van de verschillende div-elementen vergroten om dit te compenseren.
    3. Als de lettertypegrootte wordt gewijzigd d.m.v. verschillende waarden voor elk element div in plaats van voor het algehele ontwerp (bijv. #sidebar1 krijgt een lettertypegrootte van 70% en #mainContent krijgt een lettertypegrootte van 85%), leidt dit tot proportionele wijziging van de algehele grootte van elk van de div-elementen. Mogelijk wilt u dit aanpassen op basis van uw uiteindelijke lettertypegrootte.
    .twoColElsLtHdr #container {
    width: 46em;  /* deze breedte maakt een container (hoofdobject) die past een browservenster van 800 pixels, als de tekst wordt gehandhaafd in de standaard lettertypegroottes van de browser */

    padding: 0 10px;  /* deze instelling voor padding (opvulling) komt overeen met de uitlijning links van de elementen binnen de div-elementen, die volgen op deze padding. Als een afbeelding wordt gebruikt in de #header in plaats van tekst, wilt u wellicht de padding (opvulling) verwijderen. */

    margin: 0; /* door de marge van het laatste element in het element div voor #header op 0 in te stellen voorkomt u het wegvallen van marges – een onverklaarbare ruimte tussen div-elementen. Als om het element div een rand loopt, is dit niet nodig aangezien dit tevens het wegvallen van de marge voorkomt */
    padding: 10px 0; /* door het gebruik van padding (opvulling) in plaats van een marge (via het element margin) kunt u het element van de randen van het element div vandaan houden */
    /* Tips voor sidebar1:
    1. Vergeet niet dat als u een waarde voor lettertypegrootte voor dit element div instelt, de algehele breedte van het element div dienovereenkomstig wordt aangepast.
    2. Aangezien we hier werken met em-waarden, verdient het de voorkeur om voor de zijbalk zelf geen padding (opvulling) te gebruiken. Deze wordt dan voor op standaards gebaseerde browsers toegevoegd aan de breedte, waardoor een nog onbekende daadwerkelijke breedte wordt gemaakt.
    3. De ruimte tussen de zijkant van het element div en de elementen erbinnen kan worden gemaakt door het aanbrengen van een linker- en rechtermarge voor dergelijke elementen, zoals wordt aangetoond door de regel ".thrColHybHdr #sidebar1 p".
    .twoColElsLtHdr #sidebar1 {
    float: left;
    width: 12em; /* de achtergrondkleur wordt weergegeven over de lengte van de inhoud in de kolom, maar niet verder */
    padding: 15px 0; /* binnen dit element div maakt de padding (opvulling) aan de onder- en bovenkant de visuele ruimte */
    background-image: none;
    background-color: #FFF;
    .twoColElsLtHdr #sidebar1 h3, .twoColElsLtHdr #sidebar1 p {
    margin-left: 10px; /* de linker- en rechtermarge moeten aan elk element worden gegeven dat in de kolommen aan de zijkant wordt geplaatst */
    margin-right: 10px;
    /* Tips voor mainContent:
    1. Als u dit element div voor #mainContent een andere waarde voor lettergrootte geeft dan het element div voor #sidebar1, worden de marges van het element div voor #mainContent gebaseerd op de lettergrootte ervan, terwijl de breedte van het element div voor #sidebar1 zal zijn gebaseerd op de lettergrootte daarvan. Mogelijk wilt u de waarden van deze div-elementen aanpassen.
    2. De ruimte tussen mainContent en sidebar1 wordt gemaakt met de linkermarge van het element div voor mainContent. De kolomruimte blijft gehandhaafd, ongeacht de hoeveelheid inhoud die het element div voor sidebar1 bevat. U kunt deze linkermarge verwijderen als u de tekst van het element div voor #mainContent de ruimte van #sidebar1 wilt laten opvullen wanneer de inhoud van #sidebar1 eindigt.
    3. Om het wegvallen van het zwevende element te voorkomen, zult u wellicht via uitproberen een schatting van de maximale grootte van de afbeelding of het element moeten bepalen, aangezien deze lay-out is gebaseerd op de lettertypegrootte van de gebruiker in combinatie met de door u ingestelde waarden. Maar als de gebruiker de lettertypegrootte van diens browser echter op kleiner dan normaal heeft ingesteld, is er in het element div voor #mainContent minder ruimte beschikbaar dan u tijdens het uitproberen ziet.
    4. In de onderstaande voorwaardelijke opmerking van Internet Explorer wordt de eigenschap zoom gebruikt om "hasLayout" mee te geven aan mainContent. Hierdoor wordt voorkomen dat zich diverse IE-specifieke bugs voordoen.
    .twoColElsLtHdr #mainContent {
    margin: 0 1.5em 0 13em; /* de rechtermarge kan worden opgegeven in em- of pixelwaarden. Deze marge maakt de ruimte langs de rechterzijde van de pagina. */
    .twoColElsLtHdr #footer {
    padding: 0 10px;
    background-color: #FFF;
    .twoColElsLtHdr #footer p {
    margin: 0; /* door de marges van het eerste element in de footer (voettekst) in te stellen op 0 vermijdt u het risico dat de marge wegvalt – een ruimte tussen div-elementen */
    padding: 10px 0; /* door het gebruik van padding (opvulling) voor dit element maakt u ruimte (op dezelfde manier als door middel van een marge), zonder het probleem van wegvallende marges */
    /* Miscellaneous classes for reuse */
    .fltrt { /* dit exemplaar van class kan worden gebruikt om een element aan de rechterzijde van uw pagina te laten zweven. Het zwevende element moet voorafgaan aan het element dat, op de pagina, naast het zwevende element moet staan. */
    float: right;
    margin-left: 8px;
    .fltlft { /* dit exemplaar van class kan worden gebruikt om een element aan de linkerzijde van uw pagina te laten zweven. */
    float: left;
    margin-right: 8px;

  • Best Practice for Placing meta tags in HEAD of document

    Good afternoon,
    We are utilizing Oracle UCM's ability to dynamically generate pages based on page templates, region templates, and contributor data files that contributors may edit and publish. We have a specific need to include meta tags in the head section of each page that are custom to the data present in each contributor data file. Including the meta tags in the region template that pertains to a section of our website does not work, as it does not include a <head> section. Alternatively, I can not place the meta tags in the page template, as the data in each meta tag is specific to the metadata surrounding each contributor data file.
    My question is this: Is there a best practice, or Oracle-supported method of accomplishing this task? I have to believe there is some way to accomplish this, as the need for meta tags for social media sites and search engines is very common.
    Thank you very much for your time,
    Josh

    Thanks for the reply, Jiri.
    I believe that the answer is 'yes' to both of your questions above. I do have a question about the formatting of the meta tag itself, as my main question is how do I extract the needed information from a particular CDF so that it is displayed in the <head> section located in the page template.
    I have a Region Definition for the content section of my page with a 'Title' field, which a contributor can fill in, save, and create a Contributor Data File with their own specified title. Let's also say that my page template, which formats the entire page, looks like this (rough):
    <html>
      <head>
      <title>Web page</title>
      </head>
      <body>
      <!-- placeholder for header section -->
      <!-- placeholder for content section -->
      <!-- placeholder for footer section -->
      </body>
    </html>
    What would my <meta> tag look like for the following:
      <meta property="og:title" content="Title of the content section"/>
    Let's name our templates/definitions:
    Page Template: PT_META
    Region Template: RT_META
    Region Definition: RD_META
    Contributor Data File: CDF_META
    In other words, how do I extract the information included in the Contributor Data File (as well as its metadata) for use in the Page Template? Is there some sort of Idoc Script call that can be used?
    Thank you so much,
    Josh

    Hi,
    there are no meta tags in HTMLB !!   If you really need to include these in your development, you have to do it with the old HTML tags like this:
    <html>
    <head>
    meta name="author" content="Anna Lyse"
    meta http-equiv="expires" content="Sat, 01 Dec 2001 00:00:00 GMT"
    meta name="keywords" lang="en-us" content="vacation, Greece, sunshine"
    </head>
    </html>
    I cannot enter the correct code for META because the @§$%&/ configuration in this forum is triggering an error page !!

    Mobile WDP does not let the application developer added the meta tags. But it makes use of meta tags for Function Keys and Barcode Scanning.
    Hope this is what you were trying to achieve.

  • How to Add  Multiple Meta tags?

    I work for a large state educational orgranization that needs
    to add meta tags to the header as part of the
    Dublin Core Metadata Initiative.
    In this case, not having meta tags is not an option.
    The meta data has to be unique to each page. Using the
    Keywords / Description parameters provided in the menu will not
    work.
    Hacking the "ccKeywordsAndDescription.js"
    "ccKeywordsAndDescription.htm" files is not an option as different
    meta data tags are required on each page and sometimes several of
    the same meta data tags are required on one page
    (ex: <meta name="DC.Subject" scheme="Keyword"
    content="####">
    Because of this, adding a template parameter for each
    editable meta data tag appears not to work as well.
    This issue was brought up once before in this form by some
    one else but not answered. I figured I would check again.

    It does not look like this is doable within Contribute, so we
    are going outside for a solution.
    The users create the page they need in Contribute from a
    template with an editable region in the header. Then the users go
    back in to the page with a Meta tag creation program called Tag Gen
    which has the same editable region defined in its preferences. They
    can add the needed tags save and close the page without ever
    dealing with the page code. Then they go back into Contribute to
    publish the page.
    It is kind of alot of Micky Mouse work but it is the only
    solution we could find.

  • Online .pdf documents, meta tags; title, keywords, descriptions. search engines

    Hi. In DW 8.0.
    I searched the forums for this but was unable to find the answer.
    I would like to have meta tags in my .pdf files that are on the web.
    When someone does a search for one of them in Google or Yahoo!, it reads the title in a bizarre upper & lower case letter pattern under the search results page.
    "ExaMPLe SAMple tiTLE"
    Correct me if I am wrong, but Google creates source code for .pdfs so others can search for them, but I do not understand why the title looks the way it does.
    I was hoping by changing the title meta tag in the actual .pdf using Acrobat would solve this, but I am waiting to see if this will work.
    Does anyone know of a better way of changing/adding the meta tags to an online .pdf document?
    Thanks.

    PDF is a print document.
    HTML is a web document.
    AFAIK, meta tags are found only in web documents.
    Soluiton would be to convert your PDFs to HTML pages and use your own meta tags and titles.

  • Can I turn off Robo9 Meta Tags that are being inserted?

    We are having problems with the Robo9 meta tags and scripts that are being inserted in every file.  The problem is especially painful when converting older projects and then attemtping builds that fail because of the new tags and scripts.  Is there a way to turn these things off in Robo9?  Or, is there a template file somewhre that it uses to create new files that we can modify for our needs?  Thanks in advance.

    You cannot turn them off.
    I suspect your problems are related to your thread at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4089745#4089745

  • Meta Tags inserted using menu

    The <head> of my template has four editable regions.
    One is for the title, one for meta-tags, one for styles, and
    one for scripts.
    If one of my web-editors uses the following menu:
    Insert -> HTML -> Head tags -> Meta
    The tag is placed in the last editable region in the
    <head> area (unless they've gone into the code view, and
    placed the cursor in the 'meta-tags' editable region)
    Can I control where DW places these tags? They should always
    to be placed in the 'meta-tags' editable region.

    DW is not really smart enough to figure that out. But - you
    can control
    where they go by using VIEW | Head Content, which will put a
    toolbar between
    code and design view, which iconizes the various regions in
    the head of the
    page. In addition, it puts a cyan outline around the editable
    regions, and
    you can select the correct one to add the meta content to.

    A title and maybe a meta description belong to every single
    page. But
    much more important is usable and properly structured
    content.

    To add meta tags, you open your published .html pages with TextEdit or any other text editor and modify as required. You have to do redo it each time you republish. I need step by step instructions on how to accomplish this  please .

    Rage Sitemap Automator and iWeb SEO Tool are two different applications.
    Use SEO Tool to add the title tag and meta description. These need to be added to the html file for every page of your website. SEO Tool stores all these so that when you republish you only need to add tags to any new pages and click the re-apply button to refresh the existing ones.
    Once you have added. refreshe the tags with iWeb SEO Tool and uploaded the files with your FTP application, then open the site in Sitemap Automator and create and upload a new sitemap.
    Once you have set up accounts with Google, Yahoo and Bing, verified your site with each and submitted a sitemap, on subsequent publishing Sitemap Automator will resubmit the sitemap with one button click. It will also notify Ask.com whch doesn't require an account since you can add your domain name to this URL to ping them...

  • Custom HTML meta tags in head section

    We want to add custom HTML code to our html-type (HTMLHelp,
    FlashHelp, WebHelp) output.
    We know how to add HTML code to the <body> section, by
    selecting from RoboHelp's main top menu "Insert > HTML".
    We also know how to add HTML code to multiple topics at once,
    by adding the HTML code to the header and/or footer or a template,
    and linking the relevant topics to that template.
    We now want to add HTML code (in particular, custom META
    tags) to the <head> section. However, it appears that the
    content of the template header appears in the <body> section.
    Of course, we could run a search-and-replace-all on our
    existing topics, to replace existing HTML code on the <head>
    section with our custom code. But we would need to remember to do
    this each time we add a new topic. It is not a big deal, but this
    does not seem to be a very efficient way of doing this.
    We figure that there must be some type of collection of
    HTML-templates that RoboHelp uses each time a new topic is created,
    to automatically insert some standard HTML code. But, do we have
    easy access to such HTML-templates? Where are they stored?
    Thanks for you help!

    Have you tried working in the "True Code" editor? This seems
    to be all you need to do.

  • Changing default META TAG

    Hi,
    is there any solution for changing the default meta tag charset? In my case it's <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=utf8"> but I need
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=windows-1250">. I can't simply add this meta tag to HTML header, because APEX automatically insert it's own meta tag for character set.
    thanx for your advices
    Robert

    Another issue, which i've solved on my own.
    It's not the question of character set in html meta tag. The solution for this issue was easy. You have to import data with NLS_LANG system variable set to correct language. In my case it was EE8MSWIN1250. After such import, all data are displayed correctly within IE.
