Do MacBook Pro Leopard discs work with imac?

Hi, I received my 24" IMAC yesterday and am eager to dual boot with Vista.
However, I have noticed that the leopard discs in the box are grey and have Macbook Pro Mac OS 10.5 install disc on them. Is this correct? or is it a bit of an error on Apple's part. I dont want to go all the way through installing Vista only to find out its not going to work.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for the replies...
Interesting one this. I thought I would phone apple first and ask them. The helpful lady on the other end told me that the discs were indeed the correct ones. Apparently the MACBOOK PRO discs contain drivers for the whole family of recent Apple Systems.
So armed with this new knowledge I bit the bullet and installed Vista. ....
All seems to be fine and dandy. The install went through without a hitch, Apple drivers went on fine. Everything seems to be in working order. Upon closer inspection the wrong ATI card has been listed under display properties but to all intents and purposes the graphics are working. I can update the drivers in windows myself anyhow.
My new question is this... How do I tell whether the version of Leopard I was bundled with would be perfectly fine should the Mac need a reinstall of OSX? I get the impression I got away with it for Bootcamp but I have doubts, due to the wrong graphics driver, that I actually have a useable set of discs should the worst come to the worst.
I am thinking of arranging a trip to a Genius bar to hopefully clarify but Apple tech support said I was good to go, and I hate calling Apple a liar.
If anyone has any knowledge on this it would be greatly appreciated. Are there any files or documents on the disc that would confirm its usage?

  • Syncing macbook pro mail 4.2 with Imac 3.6mail

I have trouble with macbook pro mail in that once I read the mail on it, the mail no longer shows up on my Imac. I am able to read mail on the Imac first, and it shows up on the macbook pro. The mail programs are different versions: macbook pro is 4.2, and Imac is 3.6. All settings are set up the same on both computers.
I'd like to have access to all the mail on both computers -- is this possible?

Who is your email provider? It depends upon how they are setup to deliver email to you. If you are using a provider that supports IMAP, then both Macs can synchronize email easily. What one mail client does when connected to the mail server, the other will see once they connect and pick up changes.
If your provider uses POP3 then it's more difficult. Mail clients using POP3 to get their email don't sync very easily. The reason is that when one mail client downloads email from the mail server using POP3, it then deletes the email that it just downloaded off the server. The other mail client connects later and doesn't see the emails because the first email client deleted them after downloading them.
The main difference between IMAP and POP3 is that mail clients using IMAP leave the mail on the server, even after you've read it. The only time it's deleted is when you choose to delete it.
Now, if you're using an email service using something other than IMAP or POP3 to deliver email, then you should say so in a reply.

  • My Thunderbolt-port equipped 15" Macbook Pro (Early 2011) works with other monitors but not with my Thunderbolt Display.

I just got a thunderbolt monitor and excitedly, I plugged my early 2011 thunderbolt port equipped 15" Macbook Pro (running 10.8.2) into it and... no image on the monitor.
Ok, so I know that the TB display works because I plugged a mid-2012 13" Macbook Pro into it (running 10.7.5) and it works perfectly. In fact, I'm using it to type this message right now.
    Other details:
    - in both the displays preference pane and about this mac/system info, the 15" mbp recognizes the display, yet... no picture either clamshell open or closed. restarted with it plugged in and not plugged in, no difference. also? sound comes through the monitor.
    - ALSO, i plugged in a mini displayport monitor into the 15" port, and it displayed fine, so the port seems to be doing something.
    see my conundrum?

It should just work - if it's not working with your 2011 model (works just fine with my 15" late 2011, right out of the box) I would get in touch with AppleCare as soon as possible and see what the senior techs may have to say...

  • My Macbook Pro no longer working with my Epson GT S50...HELP

I have been using the epson gt s50 scanner for 2 yrs now. I upgraded my MacBook Pro to MT Lion OS X 10.8.2  a few months ago (Big mistake-comuter is now slower than my crappy Dell work computer). Anyways, I used my scanner this morning without any difficulties but now my computer and scanner stop working together. My Macbook recognizes the scanner and it allows me to scan the document but once the scan is complete it is not appearing in the folder that it should be in and the image of the document is also not appearing on the screen as it usually does. I looked for the document elsewhere in my computer just in case I missplaced my folder but that is not the case. I tried to reinstall the scanner disk as directed by the scanners manual with no luck...This is the message I received from my Mac "You can’t open the application “Epson” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
I dont understand how I can use this scanner for 2 yrs, majority of the day yesterday and approx 30 minutes this morning and then all of a sudden they are no longer compatible.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
I AM TOTALLY ILLITERATE WHEN SPEAKING TO ME IN COMPUTER LINGO...SO PLEASE KEEP THE TERMINOLOGY SIMPLE FOR ME. LOL!
    Thanks again!

  • Macbook Pro won't work with external display?

The very first time I connected my brand new Macbook Pro to my 23" Cinema Display the laptop screen displayed mostly static, though the external monitor continued to work. The computer was sent to Apple for repair. Apple replaced the logic board. Though the nature of the problem changed following the "repair" (the Macbook's screen now goes dark instead of displaying noise) the laptop still will not drive the external monitor successfully without multiple re-starts. I've experimented with turning the sleep mode on and off as well as the screen saver. No effect. Is anyone using this set up successfully or is there some fatal design flaw in the Macbook Pro? System 1.4.8, 2 gigs RAM. Thanks.

Thanks for the input. Yes, I've driven the 23" with another Mac. I took the laptop back to the shop today. Hopefully they can resolve the issue.

  • Macbook Pro won't work with HP print server n2101?

Hi all, happy New Year.  I have a new Macbook Pro and I am trying to hook it up to my HP print server n2101 and my HP psc 2210 all-in-one printer.  The mac recognises the server (and vice versa), the mac prints when connected directly to the printer but the server refuses to connect with the mac (keeps showing 'idle')  Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?  Very disappointed as all things mac usually work with no probs!

Hi, I used the Mac setup instructions, not the PC ones.  The printer was automatically recognised in print and scan when I connected it with a USB cable.  I accessed the server's web-based page and followed all the instructions, but still no joy.  Thanks for the tip about posting.  I have just posted in the section you suggested, so let's see what happens.  From a quick scan around the apple forums, lost of other people seem to having precisely the same problem (and not just with HP printers!), but unfortunately, no-one seems to be offering a solution!  And trying to get through to the apple online support is a complete waste of time.  They've been 'not available' for two days now.  Christmas/New Year shutdown, I suppose.  Thanks for all your help, though!

  • Macbook Pro Retina not working with HDMI

I have a Mac Book Pro Retina that will not work using the HDMI port. I have tried with two Monitors and difference cable and the issue happens on both. I connected one via a Display Port to VGA and it works fine.
I'd like to use the HDMI port. I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.4 (Latest Version).
I have tried deleting the pref panes as outlined in ofther links. Aslo reset pram without sucess.
Is anyone using a Macbook Pro Retina with builtin HDMI port sucessfully with 10.8.4?
If you are using HDMI with Display port let me know if I should get an adpater to test.

    Hi walkerheather,
It sounds like you've already done most of the pertinent steps here:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
I would recommend going through once and trying anything you may have missed in the section "No video or no signal, image distortion, 'snow,' or flickering" and then follow these steps from the very bottom:
If you tried all of these steps for your display and the video issues persist, contact Apple technical support or take your Apple computer to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

  • Macbook Pro Sound not working with HDMi

Hello, I have an early 2013 Macbook Pro on OS X Yosemite (10.10), 3 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. If you need more specifics about my computer, please let me know. I use an external LG monitor and separate external speaker, all connected through HDMI (I connect the speakers to the monitor, and the monitor to the computer using an HDMI cable. I find that sometimes the sound just cuts out sporadically and unpredictably. I'll be playing a game, and all of a sudden there is a pop and no sound thereafter. I have to restart the game in order to get the sound back. Sometimes I'm using Chrome and watching Youtube and the same thing. I'll have to restart the program to get sound back. Other times, I have to restart the entire computer because sound is missing from the entire computer.
I've tried switching the sound outputs back and forth from "internal" to "external monitor", with no avail. I've also tried plugging in my earphones (and the sound works), and unplugging them, and the external speaker sound still won't work. After a program or sometimes computer full restart, then the sound will work fine. What can possibly be the cause of this?
    Thanks!

go to display, preferences, while the tv is hooked up to the computer. two boxes will come up, one for each screen respectively.
on the tv that you want to correct, go to color, then calibrate, and then change the colors through that.
Your tv may also not have the default colors on. you may want to look in your TV's setup menu and make everything go to default so you can start fresh and clean. Some TVs will save setting specific to an input and that would explain the weird colors.

  • Is time capsule the only wireless backup for a macbook pro that will work with Time Machine?

I just got a macbook pro (mid 2012) and I was going to back it up, but the time capsule is very expensive so I was wondering if any other backups worked wirelessly with time me

Any external hard drive can be used for a Time Machine backup, but for network backup I doubt you will find much if anything at a lesser price than a Time Capsule. Plus, the Time Capsule is also a network router.

  • Does the new Macbook Pro 13 2011 work with the Intel SSD?

I've been trying to upgrade my macbook pro to an ssd (using stock original 5400 rpm 320 gb HDD) but so far I've been reading for like 2-3 hrs and came to a conclusion. Intel is the most reliable and most highly recommended. However, Intel SSD doesn't work with the new Macbook Pro 13" & 17" because of some cabling SATA III issues. Does the issue still remain or has it been fixed? If it hasn't been fixed, what is the current most highly recommended and reliable and best in terms of speed, reliability, and just...best SSD available that works best with the 2011 MBP? Can anyone help me out? Ive been reading that OCZ and others are faster than Intel but less reliable (higher failure rates) and MBP can't take advantage of faster 6/Gbps RAID III or something. help me!!! Should I just wait?

If you search the web, you will predominately read about problems, not good experiences.
I don't believe Intel is any less subject to issues, than the Sandforce SSD drives.
Buy from a reliable source with a good return policy and warranty.
    OWC is well regarded.

  • How I got my 2011 MacBook Pro (17") to work with the UML290 without any 'hackery'

Frustrated and fed up with waiting for Verizon to finally fully support an operating system that is almost two and a half years old now, I decided to experiment and play around with things myself.  Here is what I learned:
For some reason, the "dial your number" network hack that people got working didn't work for me.  I set up everything as the tutorials all said (GRPS (GSM/2G), APN to "vzwinternet", dial your phone number, user name is [email protected], password is vzw, CID 3, etc).  It just would not work for me.  Maybe it's becasue I had my UML290 hooked up to a Windows 7 box that updated the firmware, which may have rendered this 'hack' inept.  I don't know; all I know as that, despite trying to get this method to work for several days, I was never able to get it to work.
There was no way, as far as I could see, to force the Verizon Access Manager (VZAM) software to run in 32bit mode as you can with most other programs.  Typically, you can hilight a program, press CMD+I and select a checkbox to run an app in 32bit mode, but no such option existed for VZAM (for whatever reason).
Finally, I found a workaround to get the modem working until Verizon gets their act together and makes VZAM work with 64bit OS X.  Here's how:
    Completely power off your computer.
Depress and hold the "3" key and the "2" key (at the top of your keyboard) at the same time BEFORE pressing the power button.
Press the power button while continuing to hold the "3" key and the "2" key.
Continue to hold the "3" key and the "2" key until the login prompt comes up.
Log in as normal (you may have to remove a bunch of characters from the password field; just CMD+A and delete what's in there and type your password as usual).
After following the steps above, you should have forced your Mac to run in 32bit mode.  Run VZAM as normal and you should have no trouble connecting to the 4G/3G network.
Note: This measure is TEMPORARY, and will force OS X to load the 32bit kernel instead of the default 64bit kernel (if your MacBook is set up to use the 64bit kernel by default).  This change will be undone at your next restart provided you do not hold down the "3" key and the "2" key.
Note: If you used previously posted "dial-up" methods to get your modem working on your Mac, you will need to undo the 'damage' to your settings that that workaround caused.  Please see my post here (post 14) for detailed instructions on how to do so.
Note: This is a temporary solution that carries with it some down sides:
True 64bit support offers higher levels of security than 32bit.
You will likely be unable to use more than 3GB of of memory as a 32bit OS cannot, by nature, address that much RAM.
Please let me know if you have any problems.  I can't promise I can help, but I'll do my best.

Hey, it's a simple fix that should give most people what they want until there is full VZW support: the ability to use their card with the VZAM software.  I didn't see anyone else offering that suggestion...  If you don't want to use it, you don't have to.
At the very least, this does seem to prove the theory that this is an issue with the 32/64bit compatability that some have refuted.
